The Australian apology

I was a fan of John Howard but I could never work out why he didn’t arrange for a formal apology to Aboriginals for the past treatment they suffered.

In New Zealand, the Crown has already done 20 formal apologies (and settlements) for past behaviour.  It is am important part of the process of moving forward.

So it is good to see Australia catching up to NZ, in terms of formally recognising the wrongs of the past, with the apology by Prime Minister Kevin Rudd.

The full text is here.  It is very eloquent.
