The election is nearing

You really know the election is close when Labour sends Goff in to start talking about banning gangs.

If they were serious about this they would have asked for reports and studies from Departments about how to do it, what are the issues involved. But instead we are told:

Mr Goff told the Herald he was personally evaluating the ban, and if it worked, “then I’m 100 per cent in favour of it”.

Okay so the Corrections (not Justice) Minister is personally evaluating the South Australia ban. That tells you everything we need to know about how totally unserious they are about it. Just a soundbite.

The Herald points out:

Changing their tune:

“To say that if we outlaw [gangs] by law, that will happen, is, I think, dreaming.”
– Police Minister Annette King, March 16, 2006

“If it works, then I’m 100 per cent in favour of it.”
– Corrections Minister Phil Goff, yesterday

Let us see if it will be in Labour’s law and order policy.
