The Government smashes through Parliament legislation that effectively guts local democracy and renders existing councils beholden to a group of white male Eastern Suburb dwelling businessmen and then the Government does not appoint them?

WTF?

Why was urgency required?

Why were the people of Auckland not able to present submissions on how their city will be run for the next 18 months?

Will the city grind to a halt over the next week because no single body has the power to make a binding decision?

The Libertarians- In three elections their support has dropped from 8000 to 1000 votes. Its time for the doctrinal Randists, that group think bunch of sycophants and religionists at Not PC and SOLO, to depart the scene.

The Libertarian party needs to change from being a vehicle for narcissists, and a trojan horse for homosexual activists and pot smokers, and a drum for self absorbed poseurs to beat, to being a party that focuses solely on small weak government.

It needs to expand its appeal and enlarge its voter base. To attract more mainstream support.

Any other political leadership group with any self respect and who had presided over such a series of failures would have resigned long ago.

Is anyone else finding that kiwiblog has slowed down dramatically?
It now seems to take forever to fully load yet I have no problems with any other sites.
When it comes up….. “waiting for scoop” I can go make a coffee, come back and it’s “transferring from adsfac”
Most frustrating.

There seems to be a number of short memories regarding the super city AND deaf ears.

– The previous government implemented a Royal commission that recommended the merge into one city. And I might point out that as an opposition all they do is “smear” the concept rather than put up their alternative.

– The current government is implementing the merger with some alterations, that will be up for discussion. Instead of whinging because it is not “your” government putting forward the proposal – pull your finger out and put forward a valid submission when the time comes. Ya limp noodle.

– For all those bleating about the super city – where were they when the royal commission was in progress?

Well 4 out of 5 fit that description.

DPF, you did not comment on the use of urgency?

[DPF: Urgency was needed so that the Council could be in place for the 2010 elections. The Govt split the law changes up so only the bare minimum was done in urgency, allowing the public the ability to be consulted on the all important details. The move to an Auckland Council was recommended by the RC after 18 months of consultation, and backed by almost every party and Council in Auckland. It is the details that people disagree on – and that is still to be legislated]

Speaking of slow…. Can I please put in a request for a mobile version of Kiwiblog? As it stands, each 1-4k story is wrapped inside 200-250k of wrapper. Not only does it slow things down, in a country where we still suffer excruciating data charges, blowing a megabyte on 4 or 5 Kiwiblog page views is a luxury I choose not to afford. Surely there is a Worspress add-on that presents the site for mobile use? It’s no longer the domain of ubergeeks – even mum now has a phone that stalks the interweb!

Is their no limit to the shame of the socialist Hillary family?

First they wanted the state to purchase their fathers home at an inflated price so it could be preserved as a museum, now they are fighting over the right to make money from their fathers papers and memoirs which have been left to an Auckland Museum.

This is so typical of the left, they are all for income redistribution just as long as it is other peoples money that is be redistributed.

The Christchurch Press hectors 90 per cent of its readers again today with a half-page outburst from Canterbury University’s own advocate of racial separation, Rawiri Taonui.

Rawiri, after demanding Maori-race seats in an Auckland Supercity government, says: “Our future may also include Pasifika and Asian seats.”

Rawiri may well be a pleasant guy to have a beer with. But his literary style is so robust it can’t be classed just as forceful. Adjectives that spring to mind include roaring, raving, rabid. As for the Christchurch Press, the headline tells all: “Maori need seats for voice to be heard.” Not when they’ve got the Lefty Christchurch Press open to them.

Extracts from Roaring Rawiri:

“We also know that it (democracy) favours the rich, the powerful, the privileged, and the educated.”

“New Zealand Pakeha voters have demonstrated a 150-year record of not electing Maori in central and local elections.” (Winston Peters is one he overlooks, MMP list seats make it hard to distinguish others.)

“Those that attest that Maori seats are racist ignore historical Pakeha prejudice.”

“The worst rednecks resent Maori voting for Maori because they fear equality means losing monocultural monopoly control …”

“The Nisga’a and Nunavut tribes are self-governing provincial governments in Canada.”

“Mexico and Nicaragua allow autonomous self-governing regions…”

This from Canterbury University while it has trimmed some traditional departments of Western learning.

Rawiri either rejects or fails to grasp the Western academic tradition of argument. There have been great Maori orators who have in addition grasped and mastered the Western intellectual tradition. They proved masters at presenting their points of view and winning others over in NZ and abroad. Rawiri is the shouting, taunting warrior outside the besieged pa calling for the occupants’ surrender.

On the good side, Rawiri offers an alternative to the disenchanted, the angry, the square pegs. Previously Cuba and Libya were just about the whole choice.

Rawiri’s official title is head of the “School of Maori and Indigenous Studies” at the university.

Perhaps the Americans will find thinking bipeds on Mars or some other planet. Unless they have flying saucers they will be as indigeneous as you can get. Then Rawiri can really broaden his realm. Auckland Supercity won’t warrant a roar.

The “Faces of Meth” website is very alarming as it shows how methamphetamine users can dramatically age and lose their looks.

But I did not know that merely manufacturing the drug could age a person 10 years in just 26 months…

I see Melissa Lee’s MIA again, this time from the Mt Albert candidates’ Auckland governance debate.

I guess that after the debacle over the SH16 motorway stopping South Auckland’s criminals from burgling in Mount Albert, Melissa’s minders must be worried that “in the heat of the moment” she might reveal Christine Rankin as her preferred nominee to chair the Auckland Transition Authority.

Taonui isn’t just racist but he’s ignorant and dishonest too judging from previous articles of his that the press has published. He doesn’t understand the origin of the wh pronounciation debate, although he isn’t alone in this, but thinks that it was because pakeha couldn’t spell and weren’t as literate as maori back then. For someone so concerned about the history of ‘his’ race you would think he could wander over to the linguistics dept and learn the truth. On another occasion he asserted that the warrior gene claims had been debunked – they hadn’t – and that the reserachers involved were racists who had basically cooked it up to further their rcaist agenda. Facts and objective scholarship appear to be strangers to Taonui. Why he is considered fit to teach students is beyond me.

I was surprised that today’s alarming leader in the New Zealand Herald has aroused no comment.
It was a dreadfully written piece about Christine Rankin.
It was so bad that I saw a winner for their leader writer at tomorrow’s Pukekohe races. If anybody knows the leader writer tell him to go race two, number four. It will defaecate upon the opposition.
