Daylight Saving Starts on Sunday

Believe it or not but daylight saving starts on Sunday. Don’t forget to put the clock forward an hour.

Wish some one would run some polls on the earlier start to D S. Looking out my window at 0700 this morning with the certain knowledge that next week will be even bleaker, reinforces the view that if some people need an altered clock time to better manage their use of daylight then please could we wait for the spring weather to bed in, say November. gravedodger – Personally I don’t care about getting up when it is dark. It is the extra daylight in the evenings that I love.

Sigh, mutter, mumble, curse.

It’s summer solstice – we get about 12 hours of daylight at the moment so it will now be dark until nearly 7am just so it can be light until around 7pm when most people are dining. It may be warm up north but it’s only 5 degrees in North Otago at the moment & won’t be any better this evening.

If the start of daylight saving was delayed by a month or so by which time we’d have more than 14 hours of daylight we’d get more light at both ends of the day and it would be warm enough to enjoy the extra light in the evening.

Australia doesn’t move their clocks forward for at least a month and they’re both further north (so don’t have as much light at either end of the day as we do in summer) and warmer than us.

Brian Smaller it just depends a weeny bit on what you have to do when you get up in the dark. If it is to turn the heater on and continue your day indoors or get in the car as I do now then fine but if I have to go out and milk cows or truck stock to works or sale or cut trees for pick up then that hour is somewhat inhibiting and appears to those, so inconvenienced, annoying to have to fit in with those who cant get up early and arrange their time to suit their needs.
I am only asking for reconsideration of the commencement and finish dates that do not suit some of our productive workerbees. Jees even bees know that early isn’t always best.

You could stay in bed an extra hour and work later in the well lit evening.

BS who ever suggested I work. Because the gummint says every one has to get up earlier, then have an accident or realise they are sick then I have to go out and save them. My point of argument is the TIMING not the principle.

And if we’re an hour late getting the sheep in, the truck has to be an hour late picking them up and the freezing workers have to be an hour late . . .

Besides, for the next few weeks the extra light is mostly early evening over dinner. If the start is delayed three or four weeks, it’s not so dark in the morning, it’s warmer in the evenings and the extra light can be enjoyed after dinner.

Brian what daylight? There isn’t any yet; or at least there’s none that can be made productive use of.
I didn’t want it extended 3 weeks, and I certainly didn’t like it when they actually added 4 weeks; I know they did because I haven’t patched my computer and I can see when the new times kick in.

I bet if all those that had a hand in setting daylight saving time had to get up at 4.30 every morning they would see things in a different light “pun intended”. At the start of the season I spend about two hours in darkness shifting stock, getting cows and calves in, milking cows, feeding calves etc etc etc. It’s just coming right now, earlier daylight, and some bastard wants you to get up earlier. I don’t mind daylight saving but it’s way to early.
