Business leaders are warning that tardy payments by government agencies are putting added strain on the private sector, despite a promise from the prime minister that the state would pay its bills on time.

According to payment monitoring firm Dun & Bradstreet, public agencies – which include all ministries as well as organisations such as ACC – took an average of 48.4 days to settle bills in the final quarter of 2010.

Smart Green economics says workers and unions are central to economic success and we should increase the minimum wage to at least $15 an hour.

The Council of Trade Unions says New Zealand’s productivity record could be improved by a bigger boost to the minimum wage than is being considered by the Government.

No indication how increasing the minimum wage will increase productivity though. Any research or common sense to back this up?

A philosphy of equal wages has failed miserably in the past.

I love freedom of speech. I also enjoy freedom of choice in what I read and listen to. In this case I am truly appreciative of Philu’s distinctive style of posting. It means I don’t even have to read it to ignore it.

I tried, really I did, but his refusal to engage in any form of serious debate, coupled with his somewhat tenuous grip on reality, has led me to consider him nothing more than background noise. Internet Static, if you will. A visual and intellectual toxic pollutant.

I bring to your attention Nick Smith’s infamous words from a speech given last week. The Green fifth-columnist said:

“The concepts of green growth, green jobs and cleantech are attracting international attention with the work of the OECD and the United Nations. This is about New Zealand applying some of our best private sector minds to how we ensure we take up these green growth opportunities to support the Government’s broader economic growth strategy.”

This is technically correct, although what they fail to mention is that it would also result in permanently high unemployment. Gerrymandering is what it really amounts to and it hinges on the fact that productivity is necessarily measured using the number of people doing the work, rather than the size of the potential workforce.
It’s the reason European countries claim higher productivity than the US: those whose productivity falls below Europe’s high state-enforced minimum wage level are unable to get a job and therefore simply excluded from the productivity figures.
The result of this “enlightened” policy is millions of disaffected young people – often from ethnic minority ghettos – living permanently on state hand-outs with no prospect of ever having a job (and never having the opportunity of meeting and working with people from other backgrounds and beliefs.)

Link whoring’s not what it used to be. In the old days, google would increase a page’s ranking if it was mentioned on legitmate forums, on the assumption that if real humans were talking about it, it must have some value. At first they only looked at the sheer number of times a URL gets mentioned on a forum, so some unscrupulous operators realised that it doesn’t matter if the comments are negative or positive, and would whore their site on forums where they wouldn’t be welcome, just because the large number of negative comments and arguing would push them up in the google search ranking. Google has now changed their system so negative mentions of a site count *against* it in the rankings. Obviously they won’t reveal the algorithm they use to estimate whether a mention of a site is negative or positive, but we can probably assume that if a site is frequently mentioned in close proximity to words like, say – retarded idiotic delusional whore lazy bludging dishonest welfare fraud drug-abusing criminal rip-off content stealing compulsive liar unreadable nonsensical mindless spamming unpopular unoriginal wasteland… that site is on its way down the ranking. Am I alone in thinking something isn’t right when the taxpayers of NZ have to shell out to entertain sports officials as though they are visiting royalty. According to the Sunday papers they have to be given by the host nation five star accommodation, swanky meals and their own drivers. When did sport start to treat their officials as though they are potentates? Did it start with the Olympics? The rugby people say it’s OK because it’s in the budget.
I think it’s morally wrong.
And disgusting. Imagine their poor wives when these a-holes come home after weeks of living high on the hog and no doubt plenty of all kinds of entertainment.
One day we might have a government that believes every dollar from the wage and salary earner has to be treated with respect.

If Bradford and Co. start a new party I can’t see them getting 5%. I expect they would take votes off the Greens dragging them down. It might mean the demise of both parties. The votes they take off Labour would be minimal. I doubt Phil Goff has to worry.

I doubt he has to worry about a losing a previously shunned coalition partner seeing as he isn’t likely to be putting together a coalition.

This could help Labour for 2014 if the Greens are out of the frame and Labour have recovered enough, but that won’t worry Goff either. His post election speech this year may well start something like “My name’s Goff…”

Why would New Zealand continue with any Muslim immigration ?
Think about it.
We might be a secular society, but Muslims are not secular.

Where in the world have Muslim immigrants integrated sucessfuly, or even partially sucessfully ?
The basic tennants of their religion preach hatred against the infidels, thats us,
thats anybody not a Muslim.
What other type of immigrant has a similar philosophy ?

Why cant we learn something from the European experience ?
Is there any country which has allowed Muslim immigration that is not now experiencing
problems ?
Muslims integrated so well in India for example, a new country had to be established
to try and get rid of them.

Muslims believe in Sharia law and will work towards its implementation anywhere they go.
Their true goal is Islamic Theocrasy for the world.
The conflict in Britain between Cahtolics and Protestants, Edward the Eighth on will be a joke
compared to what is comming world wide with Islam v the rest.

Liberals, well meaning no doubt, council appeasement, as in Neville Chamberlain re Nazi Germany.
Chamberlain could have read Mein Kamph , Hitler spelled it out.
By the same token, Mohammed spelt it all out in the Koran.

Before we continue with more Muslim immigration here maybe we should read the Koran.

How can we be so stupid? Maybe we think if we can show a good example then Muslims will see
the light, join in to our culture and become good Kiwis. In reality they recognise that sentiment
as a weakness to be exploited.

The first signs of refusual to integrate are evident, Muslim women refusing to remove burkas in our
courts, demanding seperate prayer areas at universities, giving us our first airline highjacking,
creating a Muslim criminal gang in Mt Albert, Auckland.
Who believes for example that in time Somalian refugees/migrants will assimilate.

Why would we want to bring more of them in ?

If we had anything about us we would recognise our mistake and be thinking
about how we can assist the ones already here to go home.

Again, ask yourself. Where in the world have Muslim immigrants integrated sucessfully ?

In Boston where the locals are enduring record snowfalls. The time with more snow in New England was in the 1880’s. Also, according to a managment consultant I met with in London last week, last Christmas Heathrow Airport had very little snow-managment equipment.. having disposed on quite a bit of kit over the past few years on the advice that global warming would render it all redundant.

Partial attempts, yes; full integration, no. Their allegiance to Islam takes precedence.

No one fully integrates, including atheists. Every immigrant brings with them traditions, language and/or accent, sometimes faiths. They gradually adapt and adopt, but never fully leave their past behind.

Neither should they. It’s unfair to expect anyone to integrate completely.

A bit old… but nevertheless INTERNATIONAL TERRORIST THREAT LEVEL RESPONSES

The English are feeling the pinch in relation to recent terrorist threats, and have therefore raised their security level from ‘Miffed’ to ‘Peeved’. Soon though, security levels may be raised yet again to ‘Irritated’ or even ‘A Bit Cross’. The English have not been ‘A Bit Cross” since the blitz in 1940, when tea supplies nearly ran out. Terrorists have been re-categorized from ‘Tiresome’ to ‘A Bloody Nuisance’. The last time the British issued a ‘Bloody Nuisance’ warning level was in 1588, when threatened by the Spanish Armada.

The Scots have raised their threat level from ‘Pissed Off’ to ‘Let’s get the Bastards’. They don’t have any other levels. This is the reason they have been used on the front line of the British army for the last 300 years.

The French government announced yesterday that it has raised its terror alert level from ‘Run’ to ‘Hide’. The only two higher levels in France are ‘Collaborate’ and ‘Surrender’. The rise was precipitated by a recent fire that destroyed France’s white flag factory, effectively paralyzing the country’s military capability.

Italy has increased the alert level from ‘Shout Loudly and Excitedly’ to ‘Elaborate Military Posturing’. Two more levels remain: ‘Ineffective Combat Operations’ and ‘Change Sides’.

Belgians, on the other hand, are all on holiday as usual. The only threat they are worried about is NATO pulling out of Brussels.

The Spanish are all excited to see their new submarines ready to deploy. These beautifully designed subs have glass bottoms so the new Spanish navy can get a really good look at the old Spanish navy.

Americans meanwhile, and as usual, are carrying out preemptive strikes on all of their allies ‘just in case’.

Canada doesn’t have any alert levels.

New Zealand has raised its security levels – from ‘baaa’ to ‘BAAAA’. Due to continuing defense cutbacks, New Zealand has only one more level of escalation, which is ‘I hope Australia will come and rescue us’.

Australia, meanwhile, has raised its security level from ‘No worries’ to ‘She’ll be alright, mate’. Three more escalation levels remain ‘Crikey!’, ‘I think we’ll need to cancel the barbie this weekend’ and ‘The barbie is canceled’. So far no situation has ever warranted use of the final escalation level.

There’s a train in Oz, it runs between Adelaide and darwin (although the original line was just Adelaide-Alice Springs).

It’s called “The Ghan”, short for “The Afghan Express”, so named becuase the line’s opening replaced the Afghani and Pakistani camel drivers, who, prior to the rail, provided the only means of freight to Alice Springs.

They brought their camels, their prayer mats and their korans, and they have settled, bred and their descendants integrated in to Australian society.

New Zealand has had muslims since 1870, now has around 40,000 and the vast majority seem to be integrated. In fact, I bet you pass some in the street every day and do not even notice they’re muslim.
