Selu Bond Moala was sentenced to 150 hours’ community work when he appeared in the Manukau District Court yesterday after being convicted of wilfully ill-treating an animal. His lawyer, Mary-Anne Lowe, said Moala did not know how injured the kitten was after hitting it with the bottle.

Another dreadful statistic:

One child in four in single-parent home

New Zealand has the third-highest rate of children living in single-parent homes, an OECD study says. This means nearly one in four Kiwi children are growing up in single-parent homes as more marriages break up and single women choose to enter motherhood on their own.

Of 27 industrialised countries, New Zealand ranked third in the Doing Better for Families study, with 23.7 per cent of children living in a one-parent household, compared with the 14.9 per cent average across all countries. The United States ranked first with 25.9 per cent and Ireland was second with 24.3 per cent.

Children’s Commissioner John Angus said Kiwi children were four times more likely to be living under the poverty line if they were being raised by a single parent. New Zealand’s child poverty rate, at 12.2 per cent, is nearly on a par with the OECD average. Child poverty includes going hungry and living in poor housing that can lead to poor health.

At the end of March, 113,000 people were receiving a domestic purposes benefit, of whom 88 per cent were women.

But setting out to bring a life into the world without two straight parents from the get go is just an appalling indicator of the incredibly selfish nature of some people. Children of either sex need both a man and a woman who love them, to have a well adjusted upbringing despite the perverts who try to twist the science to suit their own political agendas. Choosing by yourself to have a baby and to raise it yourself, makes you a disgusting creature of the highest order of self-ish-ness. Those who do so, should be ashamed of themselves.

Yes wat.. I believe the cost would indeed be high in China, as they wouldn’t recoup the cost from fares, they are so cheap to travel.
We traveled around China couple of years ago and used the trains a lot. Fantastic network, jus amazing.
Even rode the Maglev train from Shanghai city to the airport, 430Kph, bloody stunning, all for 80 yuan return. It would never pay for itself in a million years, but what an adventure.

So Hone has announced he has resigned his seat in Parliament and of course this will trigger a by-election.

What a complete waste of time and money – this close to a scheduled General Election.

Maybe the PM should call for an early election so we can rid ourselves of the placard wavers and dissidents (plus MMP) all in one hit.

They’re going to find out not all Maori are dumb like them. I mean what’s the point of criticising a legally binding deal that if recanted would cost legal fees + the $36m anyway? What’s the point? Cause the only ones who would believe he has a point are the dumb ones. That’s who he’s appealing to.

BTW, that financial transactions tax if its the Social Credit one is not a tobin tax as someone said last night. A tobin tax applies to international financial trading and he’s not talking about that, he’s talking about doing it on domestic banking transactions, the silly mental. A tobin tax is designed to take the profit margin out of the millions of micro-trades that are done every second which when directed at it, play the Kiwi like a baby seal. But Hone’s not talking about that. That would be good, but what he’s talking about won’t raise fuck all and will just piss everyone off, which is an indicator for the performance of the rest of his policies as well, I suspect.

Isn’t it great that Hone’s so very insane he thinks people are going to respond positively to people like candidate Sykes? This is just great.

Power to resolve in certain cases that by-election not be held
Notwithstanding anything in section 129, no writ shall be issued for a by-election to supply a vacancy in the House of Representatives if—
(a) the vacancy arises in the period of 6 months ending with the date of the expiration of the Parliament and a resolution that a writ not be issued to supply the vacancy is passed by a majority of 75% of all the members of the House of Representatives; or
(b) following the tabling in the House of Representatives by the Prime Minister of a document informing the House that a general election is to be held within 6 months of the occurrence of the vacancy, a resolution is passed by a majority of 75% of all the members of the House of Representatives to the effect that a writ is not to be issued to supply the vacancy.

Meanwhile you’re right, only the dumb ones (i.e. Mana’s base) won’t realise it’s Hone’s fault things are a bit more expensive, it won’t even occur to them. They’re too busy listening to how Hone’s explaining how it’s not their fault they’re poor cause whitey stole it and we have to take it back, eh.

Trouble is if you loudly enough and often enough without the normal tempering with reality that actually, this is what the treaty process is about etc, which won’t happen, sooner or later Mana’s base is going to produce very angry people. And when dumb people are angry, bad things happen. And this is where it’s heading. You can’t deny it.

It says a lot about the centre of politicial gravity in this country though doesn’t it, when the Greens aren’t commie enough and the nationalist-commie branch split off into an exciting new workers party and there are enough people who vote for them to make it a political force. Any other place they’d be simply laughed at.

I say let him resign and start an email campaign to our elected representatives that a by-election will not make them popular and their vote if they support it will be heavily publicsed.

I’m pretty sure that if the NZ govt had the diplomatic clout with the US that the Aussies have, we could have said to the US a long time ago, look, we’re pretty fucking sick of your bankers playing havoc with the Kiwi so could you please ask them to desist forthwith, and the govt would have a word with them. But we can’t do that cause in 1984 we gave them the fingers.

Not sure they can Pongo, I couldn’t find anything other than Section 31 as above and it’s eight months till November but depends when Key dissolves Parliament. That’s the key date. I think we’ll be forced into this farce, which Hone will be heavily criticised for, for wasting precious money in these highly straitened times. A good opening gambit for Mana on the national stage. A portent of the future, a sign of things to come.

I predict this is only the first of various expensive disasters till the Mana Party finally expires in several or so years, having achieved nothing, cost a lot, and made a lot of people very sad indeed.

Er, joana it may be his Auckland accommodation isn’t salubrious, but why does that mean he’s “almost destitute?”

As we know he owns a Kiwifruit orchard and I’m sure if you looked you’d find other assets. I mean the man isn’t a fool and doesn’t lack self-discipline and used to work in an industry compatible with building wealth so if he really is broke as opposed to merely being frugal as he is known to be, I’d be bloody surprised.

Has anybody bothered to check if this new party has been registered? or is everybody just getting their tits all in a tangle because some left wing ding bats are getting some column inches.

Harawira has a constituency in the far north in regards Maori politics, thats all. Maori in the rest of NZ have zero time for him.

Bradford does not have a constituency anywhere, she just tagged along on the greens back, she an attention whore, thats all.

Minto has no profile, he is mentioned with scorn by the vast majority of NZers, he is poison in politics. He means nothing to the young activist of today. He has never been relevant anyway. He has no answers which is why he never debates , he is only ever used as a sound bite or he yells juvenile slogans down a loud speaker.

In fact Harawira is making a huge mistake even getting involved with these clowns.

This party could actually act like a grease trap it could collect all the real fuckwits , the Greens have a couple more they could send over, ACT have some and Peter Dunne could also fit, probably not as a full patch but as a hangaround

Reid, so you think that Banks etc SHOULD absorb any taxes imposed on them ? Because ultimately the only people who pay atxes are us, the taxpayer. Companies don’t really pay anything and shouldn’t either. Companies are only taxed to give the *impression* that they are taxed.

That’s the same stupidity that Hone hopes to exploit with his “transaction” tax, it’s just another way to milk the taxpayer without appearing to do so, Hone’s type love those sort of “indirect” taxes.

And speculators can’t easily jerk the NZ $ around in a useful way, it’s a floating currency, so any speculation is against other speculators. Where I work we export and hence trade in foreign currency all the time, we hedge and adjust our holdings in the various currencies we trade in every day as a matter of course. We want to lock-in the current rates which relate to our costs in a meaningful way. Why would you want to tax that ? It’s not speculation, there may be speculators out there, but trading in the NZ $ is a zero sum game. It’s not like the famous George Soros coup where he could profit because the UK government tried to keep the pound at a level higher than the market thought it was worth, so there was a “one-way” bet. So any “Tobin” tax will simply increase costs for NZ businesses and most heavily the export businesses, and gather bugger all tax anyway. Everything it does get will come from those people actually trading as the margins will increase.

Reid, so you think that Banks etc SHOULD absorb any taxes imposed on them ? Because ultimately the only people who pay atxes are us, the taxpayer. Companies don’t really pay anything and shouldn’t either. Companies are only taxed to give the *impression* that they are taxed.

No Ed, I think the banks should dissolve themselves, pay everyone who works there a fan-fucking-tastic redundancy settlement, forgive everyone worldwide all their debts and loans be it personal and commercial, and let’s start again, with a fresh sheet.

Of course a very small percent of people don’t think this would be a very good idea at all so they pay lots through various networks to ensure the idea is never even promulgated, anywhere.

Yes a general election please John. It gives us a chance to have some fun before the RWC bores the pants off us. Afterall we have had the royal nuptials now and need another boost. Let Bill deliver the budget, pass the required legislation, dissolve parliament and then bring it on I don’t see the need fo a 500k cost just because Hone wants to test his mandate. I think his lineup will end up going off the tracks because they are all one issue individuals (just have different issues). If we let Hone resign, then have an early election then Hone doesn’t use perks to campaign, thus saving us more money.

A tobin tax Ed is a micro-tax, of a fraction of a percent, and as I said, it’s aimed at the high-volume low-margin computer-trade transactions that make up the bulk of market activity. Small volume traders like yourselves don’t even notice it.

You can’t implement it BTW unless its international and of course the lobby groups kibosh that anywhere it raises its ugly yet beautiful head.

ACT is merely enunciating policies that have been drop-dead obvious from the get-go.

If you think they are harsh on poor people then sorry, you simply don’t understand economic mechanics. ACT’s policies implemented with temperance and genuine wisdom offerings from all other parties would in fact solve a whole heck of a lot of current issues in the economy and widespread application thereof would produce boom-times. They will also produce bust times. That’s part of the price.

Over to us, really, isn’t it. Do we want a slow gradual decline over the years and decades and generations such as we’ve been experiencing since the 1950’s, or do we want something different. Let’s face it, we’ve tried the welfare state, didn’t work. We’re currently half-heartedly applying Hayeck’s theories. Started off with a hiss and a roar but soon has a cup of tea and never really recovered. Meanwhile the rest of the world is now far ahead of us in said Hayeckian economics. Never mind, eh.

I understand why lefties hate ACT so much but I think it’s really mental and counter-productive. I mean, ACT is more concerned with economic than social reform and lefties are vice versa. And when you think about it, the left are composed of people who should know more about that than conservatives do, and vice versa.

Yet each side both liberal and conservative pretend expertise they don’t have in all fields simply cause that’s what the game requires.

It would be interesting wouldn’t it if the conservatives were given free reign over the conservative talents and vice versa and that’s where the political arguments happened.

Firstly you pretend Maori are oppressed when they’re not.

Secondly you pretend they occupy the low decile tables because they are oppressed.

Thirdly you pretend their mythical “oppression” will end when their mana is restored.

Mana is an inside concept that happens in ones tummy.

Mana is gained from achievement.

Achievement occurs when one sets one’s mind on a goal and takes action.

Achievement (a.k.a. Mana) never occurs unless one does that.

Oppression occurs when people are physically or psychologically dominated into believing or knowing they can’t take action to prevent what is happening to them.

Do you seriously Luc think any person is in that position in NZ as a result of political policies?

Do you seriously think large swathes of the population are held back from the gates of opportunity by nasty conservative policies? What a fucking mental if so, but if so, pray tell.

Thing lefties don’t get, is people won’t do a damn thing if everything is left to the state, and we saw this play out before our very eyes with the USSR in its dying days with chronic workforce alcoholism, dysfunctional supply chains in every single product you can name, no-one gave a fuck. It was a dig at methods rather than policies reid. Brash will have to learn a bit of patience, and he should also understand that he has to earn influence from now on, and that will more likely succeed if he sells the policies to the public and brings them on board rather than strongarming which will put more people off than it attracts.

Was at the Mana Party launch today (not a member – not a member of any political party) and there was a lot of interest in the postcard that I have had produced, addressed to Prime Minister John Key – where those who sign pledge:

‘to consider not paying this proposed Auckland Council 4.9% rate increase’.

How many Kiwibloggers who live in the Auckland ($upercity) Council area are even aware that a 4.9% rates increase was proposed in the Auckland Council Draft Annual Plan – for which submissions closed on 1 April 2011?

Aren’t you lucky that you now have a chance to express your displeasure?

I am hoping to set up in Remuera on Monday 2 May over lunchtime, with postcards, and these new signs that state:

“$UPERCITY = SUPER RIPOFF!”

“NO RATE$ INCREASE!”

“CUT OUT THE CONTRACTOR$!”

The wording of this postcard – (so you will just want to grab one and sign it – because you already know what it says) – is:

“This new Auckland (Supercity) Council is now proposing a 4.9% rates increase!

(While reducing most former Council’s prompt rates payment discounts.)

Where are the ‘economies of scale’ resulting from forcibly abolishing our eight former councils and replacing them with this ‘corporate controlled organisation’?

It is interesting that being called a “white motherfucker”, a ‘cracker’, a “honkey” or a “pakeha” is not seen as a good enough reason for the person on the receiving end to be offended.

However, call somebody a “black bastard”, a “nigger” or a “Hori” and it seems that any abuse ( be it physical or verbal) that comes the way of the person using those word is justified.

When did the white man give up his right to be offended at being racially abused?…and when will we hear morons like Toad and Luc start looking at race relations with both eyes open?

errrr…. National Party ex-MP Pansy Wong caused a by-election in Botany after being effectively forced to resign over her arguably corrupt practices.

National’s Jami-Lee Ross effectively caused the current Auckland Council Howick by-election when he chose to stand, then won the Botany by-election.

How much did THAT cost taxpayers / ratepayers and who’s pointing the finger at National – if we’re looking at the costs of by-elections being a waste of public monies?

At least the by-election that Hone will be causing wasn’t as a result of arguably ‘misusing public office for public gain’ – as was that of National Party ex-MP Pansy Wong?

(Don’t forget – we’re still waiting for the Office of the Auditor-General to complete their investigation, which should, as I understand it, include the changing of the company address of ‘Shipley & Wong Ltd’ to that of Pansy Wong’s electorate office on 11 June 2010?

How much of the public spotlight has been shone on THAT issue by corporate media? )

I suggest bb that the white race gets together in an online campaign to end this hate crime immediately.
