The rapacious WCC wants to take even more:

Shops, bars and restaurants have joined in criticising Wellington City Council plans to charge for two hours of extra parking in the evenings and to increase fees to $5 an hour. The increase would make Wellington’s parking the most expensive in New Zealand and dearer than Adelaide, Perth and Brisbane.

Under planned changes, Wellington’s evening parking times would be extended to 8pm, Monday to Thursday, and 10pm on Friday. Unrestricted parking would be free after those times until restrictions kick in again at 8am.

Hourly fees would increase by $1 to $5 an hour. The measures would generate an extra $2.3 million a year.

Hey – maybe that’s why Key has been able to get away with stripping us of our civil liberties and human rights. People just haven’t been critical enough of him. He’s just a damn fine “player”, and while i wouldn’t usually “playa hate” – this dude’s fucking me and my fellow countrymen in every orifice. So – thanks for your kind words of advice, but i can’t say i agree with you.

I read yesterday about Jean Ruakere – whom the Taranaki Daily News described as an ‘aunty’ of Sharon Armstrong, the New Zealander held in Buenos Aires because she had 11 pounds of cocaine in a suitcase – wanting to go to Argentina with Ms Armstrong’s daughter to give aid and comfort and support to Ms Armstrong.

Mrs Ruakere wanted the Government to pay for the trip.

What struck me was that in the aftermath of Ms Armstrong’s detention, various friends and colleagues and whanau types were quoted in the media as saying they were going to assemble money for a defence fund and to pay for such a trip.

So: did they?

Or was it all just talk, and they’ve left Ms Armstrong to her own devices?

I thought The New Zealand Herald did well to send a reporter to Buenos Aires to follow up the story.

The Financial Transaction Tax touted by the Mana Party was originally adapted by Kelvyn Alp for the party DDP in 2004 for the 2005 General Elections. (And he has proof of this) He has carried that policy into the OURNZ Party (going through formal registration).

Kelvyn approached Hone Harawira via Hone’s relations seeking to unite minor parties with similar aims. Hone asked for 1) the OURNZ Party policies (available at http://www.ournz.net/) to see if there were areas of agreement and 2) Mike Tamaki to call him. This was done and contact ceased.

His application of the Transaction Tax is inappropriate and will raise prices.

The original policy: Taxation rates are too high, meaning that companies are at a disadvantage when competing for foreign investment, business on the world stage and for real growth.

The solution is a 1% Transaction Tax on all outgoing financial transactions. The tax will replace ALL other taxes including many “hidden” taxes. Software programmed into RBNZ’s electronic clearing system will state daily transactions of the banking system, meaning implementation will be simple. Calculated on total transacted amount per annum, a tax of 1% will provide the Government with sufficient operating revenue.

Some think it would negatively affect the economy. This is a false notion and it will have a beneficial effect on the economy through being able to tax money that is now untaxed. This solution will bring prosperity, increases in employment and less dependence on the State.

Money was intended to distribute goods and services at an agreed value. Money was never meant to be a commodity. The solution is not to tax the real wealth of this country (labour, resources, business etc), but rather to tax how wealth is distributed. With no income tax, nor GST to pay, everybody will effectively have a pay rise.

I am waiting for someone from the media to ask Hone the following: Mana (the word not the party) should be about respect, self-esteem etc. But Mana the party seems to be about bludging ever more from the taxpayer, not having to work to get ahead, blaming others, etc. Isn’t Mana the part the exact opposite of Mana the word?

For New Zealand, the long-term risks of pursuing a low-carbon economy are outweighed by the risks of continuing down the high-carbon track. Our approach to managing our greenhouse gas emissions will be closely watched by our trading partners. We need to remember that we are a long way from our export markets, many of which are in Europe – the home of emissions trading.

Kyoto may be coming to an end but individual emissions trading schemes will survive, and will play the same role in reducing carbon emissions that similar schemes have played in reducing sulphur dioxide emissions. Economic incentives are the best way to encourage behavioural change. The ETS gives us an opportunity to create a system that fosters low-carbon development while protecting trade-exposed industries.

Rather than focusing solely on the short-term costs of change, we need to consider the long-term benefits as well as the likely costs of inaction. And we should act while we still have the opportunity to make changes in our own way, at our own pace.

Walking around Bangkok today I couldnt help but notice the drive and determination the Thai people have..especially in getting things done. Buildings pop up like mushrooms , there are no fewer than a dozen cranes in the area that I am staying all going flat out. People working in the heat of the day ( 36 deg ) all seem happy with their lot. Even the beggars have a toothless smile on offer. Brand new Mercs , Lexus etc plying the highways. Its all so different to NZ. No wonder I am drawn back here year after year. Bangkok sweats positivity. Its all around you. Indians , Thais , Muslims , Burmese , Chinese all just getting on with it and living together.
Then I read on Kiwiblog the shit and crap oozing out of scum like harawira and I just shake my head. What a mongrel bastard racist divisive angry rotten to the core evil m/f he is. You can only pity the fool. He needs a dose of what bin Laden received asap. Righto..off to the aussie bar.

Hotchin sues Herald, leading analyst for alleged defamation

Former Hanover Finance director Mark Hotchin is suing the Herald and leading business commentator Brian Gaynor for defamation over criticisms about the company’s collapse.

In a statement of claim lodged with the High Court at Auckland, Hotchin referred to a number of columns and a profile feature published in the Weekend Herald between 2008 and 2011.

It says the articles had damaged his personal and commercial reputation and caused him to lose commercial opportunities in Australia and New Zealand.

I saw some Liarbore supporters on the grass median strip waving their stop sign ads at morning traffic on Seaview Road, Petone, on Monday or Tuesday this week. Unfortunately I was on a bus otherwise I would have stopped and taken some evidential photos, maybe made a citizen’s arrest or four.

Times like these you wish tasers were publicly on sale.

It was all a matter of protecting the public from having an accident, your Honour, I would have said.

Seriously, this is Mallard’s electorate. This was after everything blew up in Liarbore’s face, the week before. And yet, still the silly mentals insist on breaking the law, again.

I wish legalising taser sales was what Heather Roy’s bill was about, who cares about ending compulsory unionism when you have mad lefties making a nuisance of themselves on public roads.

Evans ( Coroner),recommended that the New Zealand Transport Agency look into whether the Land Transport (Road User) Rule should contain requirements in relation to safe walking by pedestrians on state highways.

It should also address when and in what circumstances drivers must drive with a vehicle’s headlamps on full beam, he said.

A 16-year-old youth hit and killed by a police patrol car as he walked along a Far North road after dark could still be alive if the officer had turned his car lights on to high beam, a coroner says.

Rawiri Wilson died after a patrol car driven by Constable Jamie Anderson struck him from behind on State Highway 1, near Ohaeawai, 11km northeast of Kaikohe, on July 25, 2009.

Wilson was walking on the road with friend Gideon Porter, 16, who was injured in the crash, about 11.45pm.

The night was described by witnesses as “pitch black”. There were no street lights and both men were wearing dark clothing.

The pair had been drinking and had smoked cannabis some five hours earlier.

This puts paid to the idea of Obama as the man of action. Apparently the US knew where bin Laden was hiding for at least 9 months, and Obama just couldn’t make up his mind what to do about it – from White House Insider.

The safe house was discovered last August and it was a case of Hillary and others wanting to go in, and Valerie Jarret trying to convince Obama not to. It looks like it wasn’t even Obama that gave the order to go get him. Mr Decisive just didn’t know what to do.
