Is this really the best way to decant wine?

I just read a quick article on how a “pro” decants wine. Apparently he uses a blender.

Wine lovers have known for centuries that decanting wine before serving it often improves its flavor. Whatever the dominant process, the traditional decanter is a rather pathetic tool to accomplish it. A few years ago, I found I could get much better results by using an ordinary kitchen blender. I just pour the wine in, frappé away at the highest power setting for 30 to 60 seconds, and then allow the froth to subside (which happens quickly) before serving. I call it “hyperdecanting.”

Although torturing an expensive wine in this way may cause sensitive oenophiles to avert their eyes, it almost invariably improves red wines—particularly younger ones, but even a 1982 Château Margaux. Don’t just take my word for it, try it yourself.

Just a thought, but we have all noticed that the Labour hoardings are bereft of any image or mention of Phil Goff. It would obviously make no sense to put thousands of dollars into a leader based campaign if there is the possibility of that leadership changing prior to polling day, so I wonder if that is the reason, and that there is a major push for such a change to occur.

Labour supporters always vandalise National and Act billboards. Happens every election. I hate seeing Mallard and Hipkin’s faces in front of me when I drive up to every roundabout in the Hutt, but I would never vandalise their election advertising. Mallard is doing just fine on that score himself.

I would suggest that an unusually high number of anomalous weather events could be symptomatic of changing climate patterns.

Heatwaves are also handy to retaliate with when the skeptics use freak snow storms as specious evidence of cooler climate.

The famous American neo-Con David Horowitz actually started out as a radical Marxist. As Irving Kristol famously said, “A neo-conservative is just a liberal who has been mugged by reality”.

Way back in 1975, Horowitz was shocked to discover that what he believed about people of colour in the USA being “persecuted” by the police, was the opposite of the truth, and in fact political correctness was stifling the investigation of serious crime due to a slavish desire by “the establishment”, right up to “city hall”, to be seen as “not racist”. He came up against this in the context of the brutal murder of a young woman friend of his, by the Black Panthers gang. It was particularly distressing to Horowitz because he had been part of the Marxist networks that were friendly with the Black Panthers, and had personally recommended the young woman, a fellow Marxist activist, to do voluntary office work for the Black Panthers.

I see that the marine terrorist Paul Watson of Sea Shepherd, has surfaced again to declare there will be a ‘kamikaze’ style “Operation Divine Wind” attack on Japanese whaling fleet in the Southern Ocean this year.

Whilst I don’t like the idea of whaling, the issue here has to be one of Law and Order and the adherence of Maritime Law. The Japanese whaling fleet is going to be going about its lawful business in the Southern Ocean and if Sea Shepherd decides to take matters into its own hands, there will be inevitable trouble – with the distinct possibility that a vessel could be sunk. Indeed, if the whaling fleet is to be operating under the protective umbrella of the Japanese Navy, then the vessel sunk would most likely be the Sea Shepherd.

The place to challenge the whaling operation, is via the International Court rather than by rule of force. But if force is the tactic used again by Sea Shepherd, then I trust that Greenpeace / Sea Shepherd / Gween Party et al, will refrain from bleating when their ‘kamikaze’ style attack vessel is at the bottom of the ocean courtesy of the Japanese Navy.

And if this happens, Sea Shepherd will simply be victims of their own stupidity and the result can be paralleled to the ‘summary justice’ nowadays delivered to Somali pirates.

AND, even if it was true, observations from nature don’t mean we should copy.

Many female spiders kill their husbands after mating, and male lions kill offspring of their mates sired by another male. The analogy from nature is stupid but constantly used to ‘prove’ homosexuality.

Sure humans have condoms and antibiotics to fight such problems. These are modern innovations.

The tacked on bit (devoid of connecting logic) probably say it all. You hate Christians making you feel uncomfortable and you class them as ‘judgmental’.

This may be so but it doesn’t alter that buggery (a common activity associated with homosexuality) is not natural.

I’m not certain how many species have been observed in homosexual behaviour, but the known cases do range from birds to fish, invertebrates and other primates. So it is extensive. I found 89 scientific papers published since 1990 on the Web of Science database with restrictions to zoological-themed journals.

Again, prove it. I’d wager that most don’t. Or maybe try it once and never again. I’d never subject my wife to such a painful and selfish form of sex. To assert that it’s commonplace across the board again is another misleading tactic by the gay lobby to make it sound normal. It’s geometrically abnormal and generally display dominance of the man over a woman. I suspect most heterosexual couples that do it, do it because the man wants to, not because the woman does.

Evolution is uncaring of whatever fate the individual has, just so long as the genes they have get a better chance to be perpetuated. Childbirth historically has been one of the leading killers of women. If selection was about individual health, then the drive to reproduce would have ended long ago.

I used to think being gay was an abnormal thing people made a conscious choice to be. Having lived in the Philippines now for three years I am now inclined to believe people are born gay (called bakla here). I have met guys who are only 14 who are openly gay and are not ashamed of it, and they are definitely naturally “female” in their attributes and characteristics. It’s really amazing how tolerant the Philippine people are considering 83% of the country are Catholic.

So do you sometimes when its something that your clear on and thats important to you. There are other areas that I’m quite variable and fuzzy about. Are you sure we are that different?

The analogy to other species is misleading. Even if 89 species (a MASSIVE downgrade from jonnobank’s 1500) exhibit some ‘homosexual’ behaviour, we’re making then assumption that these behaviours are analogous to human behaviour. Two ‘male’ fish (even to say a male human is the same ‘maleness’ as human is a huge assumption) hanging out and touching genitals or whatever they do, doesn’t necessarily have a human analogy. I didn’t say 89 species. I said 89 papers citing different instances. And that’s just from a 2 minute sampling of one database.

Umm, also, there’s nothing about homosexual behaviour that says it’s defined in terms of the pleasure it generates. It is a mating preference shown by organisms of the same gender.

Now, if you’re going to argue that it’s unnatural, then there has to be some metric of what is natural. Especially if you want to claim that humans are somehow distinct to other animals.

The idea that we have sex for recreational reasons isn’t particularly distinctive. Bonobos do so too.

Of course, bonobos have never dragged their tortured neighbours on to a bonfire to incinerate them for the madeup crime of witchcraft. That’s a peculiarity of religious humans. Just another way I suppose, we are better and distinct to other primates.

Need to subscribe read full artilce.

It’s not scientific journal, it is a medical journal. Slightly different. The abstract has all the right sounding buzz words like ‘polysexual’, but does actually have any hard data – like most abstracts in science normally would.

Further to that the author, Bruce Bagemihl, is gay.

Now, that doesn’t prove the substance is of the article is wrong. But i’m sceptical.

With regard to burning witches, I guess my response is that all societies have done that for millennia for all sorts of reason. The most recent iteration by the Nazies was hardly religious – and the Catholic Church was the most vociferous opponent of it – nothing that even the ‘sophisticated’ minds of early 20th century europe and USA though eugenics was the night big thing. As I’ve noted on other threads – the Catholic Church has always opposed such behaviour and it’s largely civil bodies (and though not to create friction – protestant sects have done this on occasion but not nearly as often as civil bodies). Please spare us the clichés that have no resemblance to reality.

Bit of buggery is harmless amongst those that enjoy it safely. I’m curious about hetro buggery, but never met a woman who professed to like it so I’ve never broached the subject.

If it acually came down to doing it, I suspect I’d be put off by the pooey smell.

In regards to the election signs two things I have noted:

1: The Labour supporters seem to be up much earlier in the morning to repair thier signs, perhaps this is why you only see damaged National ones?

2: Several bunches of young nats have been spotted damaging National party signs, presumably to make Labour look bad?

Yes, it can. For a start homosexual behaviour is a behaviour, not an orientation. Once the behaviour is stopped thats it. Of course that does not mean the feelings go away, though I have met people in which they have. But the behaviour can be controlled. Calling it an “orientation” is mere propaganda. While there are certainly factors that arise from early childhood, the “Gay people are born that way” claim is pseudo-scientific nonsense.

I still can’t imagine having to force myself to like women like you do. It comes naturally to me, their beautiful bodies, breasts, smooth skin – I doubt (no matter how you tried) that you could turn me gay. Gay men are naturally attracted to men, so I don’t see how they could be converted. (Well, I guess you could trick them into thinking they were going to a magical sulphurous place called Hell, but they’d still like guys).

Anyway, I was walking through One Tree Hill to see the lambs (closest a city boy gets to see them), and there were male lambs mounting each other! Anyway, only a nutjob Christian would waste so much time worrying about what other people do in their bedrooms, or lounges, or the fluid left in anuses.

BTW having sex predisposes women to UTIs and yeast infections. Better stop that “unnatural” act too.

But I’d rather whinge to myself about criminals:
This piece of shit, Jeffrey Frost, was locked up for at least 17 years.
He plead not guilty because he was aiming for a psychiatric plea, and then when convicted argued his lawyer “never told him he could get a lesser sentence if he pleaded guilty.”!!
