Torture mum wanted compo

The mother jailed last week for the “torture” of her daughter had written to Prime Minister John Key asking if the girl was entitled to compensation for allegedly being sexually abused while with whanau caregivers approved by Child, Youth and Family.

IRAQ: so, just hours after ‘evil America’ departs Iraq after 9 years reconstruction, 10 bombs go off, the worst unrest since 2006 occurs, and the President and minister-of-increasingly-everything (aka “emerging despot”) issues a warrant of arrest for his deputy. But that’s ok, because anti-American Liberals across the world will, as we speak, be pouring into Iraq to stand up for peace, to ‘occupy,’ and get everyone to hold hands in brotherhood…

I am so relieved.

By “reasonable precautions” Scott, I take it that you mean not venturing out at night because you ought to know you’ll get bashed, or ever turning your back on your kids because you ought to assume they’ll don’t get bashed/raped, or driving because you ought to know that you’ll get cleaned up by a drunk.

Yes, best to stay locked up inside with a keyboard. Like yourself for example.

The fact that you admitted that you do it puts me on notice that there is danger out there and even if I drive sober and careful, that surely doesn’t absolve me of my own culpability in the event that you turn me into a damp patch on the road. Even if you are the primary culprit. Or would I be the primary culprit?

Or would I be safe provided I did nothing that offended you such that there was no need for you to indulge in your disciplinary driving tactics?

Yes it will. Your brain will be working better, so you’ll cope better. But you wouldn’t be tailgated by me anyway, because you’re not tailgater..

The only thing you can do to minimize your risk of dying or being injured on the road is to take reasonable precautions. Y’know, the ones Nanny bangs on about all the time. That will improve your odds of not dying on the road from say, one in a thousand to maybe one in two thousand.

And yes, I keep these figures up my ass.

No jonnobanks, it wouldn’t have made a difference.
You can’t bring peace to a place where people do not want to have our kind of ‘peace’.
In countries such as Iraq and Afghanistan, and all those countries that have been culturally colonised by the Saudi’s, the word ‘peace’ has a different meaning.
Islam divides the world in Dar al Islam and Dar al harb (the house of peace and house of war).
Peace will come when only Islam exists and all other faiths and cultures/systems are conquered and destroyed by Islam. While all Muslims agree in principle, not all factions, especially Sunnis and Shiites, agree on the form Dar al Islam should take.
So the eternal bloodshed is influenced and sustained by religion.
Add to that the baked in tribal attitudes and the sense of fatalism (Insh’allah) and you have an, dare I say, insurmountable problem.
Leon Uris explained it perfectly in ‘The Haj’.
Before I was nine I had learned the basic canon of Arab life. It was me against my brother; me and my brother against our father; my family against my cousins and the clan; the clan against the tribe; and the tribe against the world and all of us against the infidel.

‘Westerners’ such as George Bush, you and Pete George look at the situation with ‘Western eyes’.

The Herald have run an article on how the little girl abused so badly by her piece of shit mother was let down by many people. I appreciate that hindsight shows us a way to a perfect world which is never so obvious when one is fending off the alligators in the swamp but if we don’t learn by the mistakes made there is no hope.

Two points stand out:

1) The policy of keeping kids available to be recalled by their disfunctional family needs stood on it’s end. Similarly the cultural crap…..good foster parents, be they ‘Pasifikan’ or Pakeha are of more benefit to the kid than being beaten comatose by their natural ‘whanau’ or family. It’s too late to drown this political correctness claptrap at its nascency but now would be a good time to relegate it to academic discussions.

2) Not any one of those 25 contacts by agencies could have prevented the abuse but a pattern of say half a dozen should have been sufficient. The time for a central registry available to Police & Social Workers is well overdue. Something modeled along the police computer system should suffice.

I read most of the posts on here scottchris and I generally only comment if someone/thing gets up my ass. Like you for instance scottchris. Everything you write is crap. All your comments are crap. The thing that stands out for me and proves your fuckwittery the most is your recent diatribe on the poor little mite that was raped and beaten in her parents caravan up there in Turangi. Among other things you blame the parents for leaving her alone.

Playground ride to stay – council

Auckland Council says it won’t remove a piece of playground equipment a mother has called dangerous, after her child fractured her leg while using it.

The council says it has inspected the equipment, known as a dippy disc, and found it to be safe.

It says the child in question was using the equipment improperly by lying underneath it and spinning it with her legs.

However, the woman who made the complaint, says children will always use equipment improperly and it is up to the council to either make it safe or remove it.

I’m sure there will be kids injured by using Christmas presents improperly too, like incorrectly balancing on bikes and skateboards – there should be a clampdown there too.

And what about all the dangerous overeating of sweet and fatty foods!

In this cotton ball society of ours anything even ‘remotely’ dangerous is banned. Our children are smothered in cotton wool all in the name of “safety & precaution.”

It’s part and parcel of this “progressive” community that we have supposedly inherited.

It seems that ‘personal responsibility’ (and common sense) is a foreign concept these days.
In our current politically correct ‘progressive’ community (Thanks Tautaioleua) accidents do not exist anymore.
It is ALWAYS somebody else’s fault.

It may seem trivial but not to the parents of kids who injure or kill themselves.

For instance, swimming pools have pumps to filter the water. In the past, the inlet for the filter pumps was often located in the deep part of the pool, and occasionally the cover would be removed for one reason or another.

And a kid would sit on the inlet as some kids do, and their bowels would get sucked out of them.

Pays to make domestic equipment safe, and this can only be achieved through learning from experience and regulation.

Any accident involving any child is tragic to the parents & it would be a cruel person who deliberately exposed kids to undue risk. The problem is striking a balance between reducing risk & still allowing a child an interesting, physically challenging upbringing versus eliminating all risk & producing generations of fat, unhealthy nerds.

During my childhood & probably yours men pushed their kids to “give it a go” while women clucked around the scene twittering “be careful, wear a hat, be careful, where’s your shoes, be careful, watch for the traffic etc & ad infinitum. Thus there was equilibrium & basically we got on with doing what was needed to grow up.

A few decades later & for various reasons women have the upper hand in child raising. Single parent families are more likely to be headed by women, the teaching profession is dominated by women & the people charged with regulations concerning child welfare are women. Women are naturally risk averse hence the current crop of fat kids wrapped in cotton wool.

Certainly kids need protection from predators & adult stupidity but they need room to move & learn by mishap & experience. Coddling & neglect are both unhealthy….we need a balance but the pendulum is completely out of whack.

I remember running around as a lad , falling out of trees , swinging off ropes , riding flat out down the road with no skid lid , making rafts out of nothing and paddling across lakes. They were the good ole’ days. You hurt yourself once , you didnt do it again. You thought for yourself. The cottonwooled namby pampy panty wearers a la scottchris have spoilt it. Rules and regs. Cant fart without filling out a form…

Those were the days before accident and health stats were published, so a farmer could buzz around on his open tractor with no hat on and a fag hanging out his mouth as he sprayed his crops with benlate. Some still do, and that’s fine imo, because the risks are well known.

But with kids, it’s totally different. Where is the line between over-protection and negligence? As you say, it’s a question of striking the right balance.

And it’s only a temporary state of affairs. In less than a 50 years, I expect most kids will have a drone nanny who will accompany them to keep them safe, possibly in the form of an implant…….as will criminals, to prevent them from doing harm.

As far as farm safety goes I reckon that if you are up to speed with the dangers & have been doing the same thing for forty years without mishap then Health & Safety can stay south of the mailbox. In practise this is what happens until you take on an employee & all of a sudden you have to do their thinking for them as well. Hence no employees.

As far as the kids are concerned I agree that it is hard to know where to draw the line. My gut feeling is that the line has wandered far too far into territory labeled “caution at all cost”. Read “labour is a joke’s” 5.42pm…that was my childhood too & although a few of my mates suffered the odd cuts & fractures I can’t think of any who didn’t make it to school leaving age in one piece.

After that the story changed…..young buggers, half pissed & cocksure at the wheel of crap cars provide good business for undertakers.

Re the drone nanny….thank the stars I won’t live long enough to see it happen!
