Michael Laws [stuff / opinion] on the Taurani attack –

… His mother, by the way, this past week told media he is “just a suspect”, despite his indication of a guilty plea. Yep, that’s why he’s been remanded in custody since apprehension.
But at least he has district court judge Jocelyn Munro on side. According to press reports, she complimented him on his appearance in court. And she let his mother read a self-absorbed prayer that the boy had written asking God to make him “a man without hate, anger and stress”.
Nothing about his alleged victim and asking the Almighty to make her whole again. Or even, better.
Quite why Judge Munro felt compelled to offer a licence that no Pakeha defendant would likely receive, was not explained.

Like giving the Kahuis a week to ‘mourn’ before questioning anyone?
The Taupo judge must have been aware of the media interest, so why the questionable aside?
As “… his youth advocate and lawyer Katherine Ewen indicated to Judge Munro the boy would not defend charges of rape, burglary and grievous bodily harm via sexual violation …” why did she not just remand him without expressing her own opinions?

Viking2 – Whoever is the lawyer for that family should be fired. The first advice they should’ve given is to shut up until the case is concluded at the District Court. If the court rules it was the property owners duty to obtain the permits (which it normally is, they may subcontract this to the architect/builder) then they will leave themselves open to a defamation claim.

I have no interest in this other than I happened to read the complete thread a few weeks back.
I would also add that defamation usually requires something said to be untrue. Not so in this case.

There are calls for that in New Zealand as well from the left corner.

Rhema Vaithianathan has written a journal on “The Economics of Female Genital Cutting” which you can download here (http://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=1019122).
In the article she argues that female genital cutting is a pre-marital investment associated with better marital outcomes. Which has got to be good for social and economic policy.

Rhema Vaithianathan is a Labour Party member who stood for, butlost, the Labour nomination for Mt Albert to David Shearer after Helen Clark left. She was on the Economic Policy Committee of the New Zealand Labour Party, (2009-2010).
She conducts ‘research’ for the Labour Party and has been a speaker at various Green Party and Labour meetings.

I do of one woman who got involved with that landmark Education thing..I am no longer in touch with her..I heard about it ages ago and more recently. Both times that it is a cult and is to be avoided.
There is a NZ cult watch site but it does not cover everything..many NZers are gullible and naive and easily get involved in all these things..One thing most definitly to be avoided is the Soka Gakkai or Nichiren Shoshu Buddhism..Japanese..This is really well established in AK and Rotorua..etc..founded in NZ by the now deceased Yuki Johnston.

Hey, you missed out the ‘h’ in Whanganui – a lot of money, effort and time, not to mention the input of iwi and city councilors, a mayor, public, academics and Government departments, Race Relations people and others went into that.

Further on the impending Iran war, this is an interesting article for two reasons.

The first few paras are a good reflection of Arab street thinking as IMO, they really think. Understanding this accurately is critical, whether or not you agree with it and whether or not you like it. Lord Denning the Master of Rolls (Head of UK Court of Appeal for 25 or so years) and a legal legend, when he was a defence Barrister, used to prepare first the prosecution’s case, then his own. Tsn Tzu: “Know your enemy. Hold your friends close and your enemies closer.”

From comments some make here sometimes on Iran or Palestine or whatever, it’s almost as if those people think that by understanding how they think one is thereby aiding the enemy, which is clearly a very unhelpful attitude even if its only held subconsciously, since if you have it even a little bit, how the hell are you ever going to sense the truth accurately and, unless one works in World Intelligence with Cosmic Clearances, who on Kiwiblog does anything other than sense anything, on this issue, as we dissect it.

The last paras are a reinforcement and expansion of my previous comments on Iran’s conventional missile forces and what they mean to the strategic equation and in the last para or two the author makes an interesting point: that given the conventional missile forces cannot be taken out by any first-strike scenario and such will therefore fall all over Israel, the first-strike has to be a de-capitation strike.

Now if you were a even a junior military planner of course this would have occurred to you but the question is, has it occurred to Iran, because the decapitation scenario is possible, and it would be interesting to look at any Russian and Chinese anti-missile batteries that have been installed in and around Tehran in the last few years.

Stuxnet didn’t appear until 2010, so your implication is clearly falsified. It also seems to have been pretty ineffective.

Iran thus far is exercising a right clearly granted it under the NPT (a treaty that Israel refuses to sign up to) – that of mastering the nuclear cycle. There is not one shred of evidence that Iran intends to build a nuclear weapon anytime soon, but, given the hysterical bullying from the genocidal rulers of US and Israel, it seems entirely sensible to me to develop all the infrastructure needed to quickly, say within 6-12 months, go the whole way if it deems it necessary for self-defense.

I’m reminded of the comment by Ehud Barak that if he was born Palestinian, he would have turned to terrorism to counter Israel’s state terrorism. If the question now is if he were Iranian, what would he do, I suspect an honest reply would be to do precisely as I outlined above, or even more.

I wouldn’t want to hint at any legitimacy for the ‘interesting’ article you link to, however it is impossible to make it past the first couple of paragraphs without questioning his oversight on ‘state sponsored terrorism.’ Would you deny that Iran has sponsored terrorist groups against Isreal? (It appears that he does – or has a memory lapse.)

He raises the capabilities of the Shahab-3 missile, but then misses what would seem to be a very logical concern to consider given its capabilities. A pre-emptive first strike might not be a viable option for Israel, but if Iran is able to develop nuclear weapons, it very well may be for them.

And a nice serve from Hugo Chavez, talking to Obama by looking into the camera and directly addressing the POTUS, told him to go and talk to his own people and he would find out he has been “a great disappointment“.

Chavez was quite offended by some prissy criticism from Obama just as we was rolling out free deliveries of $US200 million worth of Venezuelan heating oil to 500,000 poor US households and stocking up the 245 shelters for the homeless, also funded by the Chavez government.

The main point is that these are all people who cheered his election and are his natural allies. But now there is deep and abiding view that he sold his soul to the white establishment purely for self-aggrandizement.

My view on Obama – Uncle Tom, potato.

US voters may as well vote in Romney and get a rich white man being a rich white man, instead of a black man with a skin-colour inferiority complex!

Israel sits as a democratic modern country of 8 million people determined to carve a nation out of the shithole that is the Middle East. Surrounding it are 360 million Muslims determined to drag the world back to the 15th century. These same primitives voice hatred for Israel at every opportunity & have already made numerous attempts to destroy that tiny nation.

If instead of living in Wellington you were resident in say Tel Aviv how would you react to the 24/7/365 threats against your right to even exist? Would you still dismiss so lightly the hyperbolic ravings of ‘dinner jacket’ & the mad mullahs & just ignore the hatred or would you take steps to defend yourself & your family?

Straw man. Surely it’s fair to look at the historical record, as reid suggests. Israel and the US are serial warmongers. Iran is not, according to the record.

No of course not bhudson why would I. The point is, so what. From the perspective of the Arab Street, the contractors still in Iran are the other side’s Hezbollah. I realise it’s not the done thing for a geniune country to sponsor a terrorist organisation, but in the context of what else happens in the world re: what other countries do to (a) each other and (b) their own citizens, all the time, it’s not the crime of the century either. But the western MSM have been painting this myth for more than ten years that the only repeat only evil threat today in the world is terrorism and drugs and let’s not even speak about the other evils like whoops, no WMD and a million Iraqi casualities but that’s not evil, that’s fighting terrorism, right. This is the global reality and if you care to dispute the million figure go ahead I don’t care. How and why you have concluded Iran would automatically use a nuke if it had one? It’s just I see no evidence this would happen, since MAD applies and also, as the article peripherally addresses, it’s in Iran’s interests to preserve the oil trade therefore war is a bad thing, for Iran. It’s against Iran’s best interests to attack anyone, whether it’s Israel, the US or anyone else. As the article notes, historically, Iran has never attacked anyone. Which other nations with Iran’s longevity can boast that?

This is what mitigates against Iran automatically using a nuke.

Of course, avid Fox viewers simply lap up this B-movie in their millions, salivating in their lust to deal it to the evil ragheads once and for all, that’ll learn em.

If people like that spent half as much time researching the capabilities of Iran and what she really is like in reality as they do on how dangerous Iran is, western opinion would change overnight, because it only takes about 5 mins of open-minded good-honest-hearted research to locate and read that.

But that’s not going to happen of course not with the global MSM busily drumming a nightly tattoo because anything that suggests otherwise is mere propaganda.

No they’re modern, educated humans just like us, not savages. You look at photos of the Arab Street these days. They have cafes and the internet and wifi and even Madonna. Do not mistake the actions of the Arab nations for the sentiment of the Arab Street. They quite often differ. One thing critical to ME dynamics is the degree to which foreign nations manipulate the client puppets and if you don’t understand who is who re: puppet in master in MS politics, you will not be accurate. That’s the art and the science. And it’s very Machiavellian, even more so than European politics and that’s saying something.

The clue to perceiving Iran’s passivity is in understanding how it has indeed reacted to the various provocations over the years and contrasting that with how Israel would have reacted were Israel in the same situation as Iran is.

Research the western MSM and look over the years at the slow slow aggression from Israel/US, trace it back to the very first killings and “mysterious” explosions which somehow accidentally killed one scientist after another and look at all of them and look at how very very long it took Iran to react at all. These were happening well before Stuxnet and yet, nothing. Is this the expected reaction of a regime which you depict above?

Research further into the damage Stuxnet did. Still nothing. Is this the expected reaction of a regime which you depict above?

The feelings on the street are not of great importance in a country where the Revolutionary Guard loyal to the Mullahs can & does oppress the people of the street. Much is made of Muslim countries embracing democracy but as long as there is an armed theocracy functioning as an upper house the concept of the people holding power is a joke.

The only reason why so many of those on the left are cheering is that the new thugs on the block are even more hostile to the US, Israel and the ‘West’ in general than the previous thugs.

Iran has established new Iranian missions in Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Nicaragua, and Uruguay, enlarging existing Iranian embassies in Argentina, Brazil, Cuba, and Mexico and has been sending officers from its paramilitary Quds Force to some of those countries.
The Iranians have a history of carrying out deadly terrorist massacres in Latin America — most notably, the 1992 and 1994 Buenos Aires bombings — and former Peruvian military chief of staff Gen. Francisco Contreras has said that Iranian organizations are now aiding other terror groups in South America. Last year the US and Saudi Arabia foiled an Iranian plot to assassinate the Saudi Arabian ambassador to the United States.
