The asset sale 49% ownership loophole looks like a serious breach of principle and agreement.

John Key has said “trust us”. I trusted him last term, he kept his word on asset sales. But if National include an allowance in the MOM bill for greater than 49% stakeholding through non-voting shares I can’t see it being anything other than a breach of agreement.

John Key’s word, National’s written agreement, and United Future’s pledges, need to be reflected in the legislation. Or I have a major problem with it.

The cabinet “loophole” leaves asset sales 49% ownership at risk.

When you have gambling, prostitute and corrupt politicians are never far behind.

– and the third, illumination – comes from intuition.

The hyper-connectedness allowed – actually, demanded – by the Internet –

– which has made the first two types of knowledge very easy to come by – has also taken us further away from that illumination, or wisdom, or intuition –

– or whatever you want to call it that is so essential to living a fulfilling and meaningful life…”

Agreed with all you wrote about wage gaps between women and men.
Why yes, women do love kids!
You are exactly right — a higher wage isn’t as important to some women — because it comes at a “household” cost.
If I could add this non-scientific but beyond anecdotal research:
I’ve called hundreds of women for executive roles in carrying out searches for our clients. They simply say “No thanks.” Perhaps they are a single parent and the current role is 20 minutes from home, and the one I’m calling about is 50 minutes to an hour away. And these are executive roles.
They say “no thanks” because they are unable to travel or commit the hours for the job that would move their careers further upward. To take that “exceptional” role.
I call it: “Why very good is better than exceptional.” They have roles that are “very good” that also allow them to be closer to picking up kids, etc. One possibility is that many women will just always have more responsibilities at home even in two earner households. Someone told me Sheryl Sandberg of Facebook wrote about this as well.
That’s not changing soon. I don’t fault them for this choice.
I do resent the media making companies out as if they are not doing enough to hire senior women. Our clients would love to hire them….if only they’d say “yes.” Clients say, “You must have these candidates in your back pocket.” The response is, “Why yes, we do. And they will talk to me. But very good is good enough, thank you.”
Women and men are different…..and it should stay that way!

Not so fish_boy; the PM is trying (perhaps misguidedly) to increase jobs for New Zealanders, with a small trade-off in terms of an increase in Sky City’s pokie numbers. As Other_Andy says, you may not like it, but calling it “corruption” is just hyperbole. “Corruption” is personally benefitting from something illegal, like Phillip Field did.

Gambling creates a money go-round , taking from the poorest who then need government money to live, which when received gets gambled instead of buying food for their hungry children.

You really don’t get it do you. The government changes the law to help commerce on a regular basis. Sometimes it’s generic. Sometimes it’s specific. This announcement was wholly transparent. A law change would produce a convention centre that would not otherwise occur and create 1000 jobs in construction. Well done Key.

There is a smell about the unions, and, from my office not far down the road where the EPMU has there office, I can sense a degree of puckering going on. Couldnt happen to a nicer bunch of people. I certainly hope that if there has been corruption, its discovered and bought into the open. The hypocrisy will make non-payment of taxes very small beer indeed – and go straight to the heart of the labour party.

Marcus Lush this morning stated that Anders Breveiks testimony was not broadcast so as not to provide fuel for neo-conservatives.

This reveals huge bias as Lush should know what a neo-conservative is as a journalist. The constant reference to Breivek as a right winger is persistent and rather distastful. It is not the key issue of the tragedy and shows a lack of understanding of what constitutes right wing as freedom of immigration is more in line with free market principles.

High Court Justice Gilbert has overturned the verdict in the case of the comedian who indecently
assulted his 4 year old daughter.

Totally iincompetant Judge Phillipa Cunningham origionally discharged him without conviction
because he “was funny and made people laugh.”

This funny man has been sent back to the District Court for re sentencing.

Hopefully, by a competant Judge.

Does anyone feel Judge Phillipa Cunningham should resign ?

Honestly the level of useful idiocy throughout the entire western world on this subject is just mind-boggling. It’s a shame those people who constitute the vast majority of citizens in said western world, don’t realise that on this subject, they’re the ones who currently are being “fooled, some of the time.” Given the level of information out there which points to the real and actual truth of the matter, it’s just mind-boggling how many people simply don’t even bother to analyse it. And it has nothing to do with intelligence or lack of. This guy talks about how it took 2 years for even his own lawyers to turn their thinking around on this issue. But seriously, those with this attitude are the ones responsible for the death and destruction of innocent lives. If it weren’t for you, politicians would not be able to destroy Libya, Syria, Iran, Israel, etc. For the people who do this are few, and we are many, and all it takes is an awakening for the whole thing to be stopped in its tracks.

To me it’s so, so obvious what’s going on and always has been. It’s a long shot, but how about this question which may get through to a few people and start them on a journey.

In the first minute or so of this video, it mentions that Rumsfeld announced there was $1.3 trillion dollars missing from the US Defence budget on Sep 10, 2001. The plane that hit the Pentagon the next day did an extremely complex terminal maneuver as seen on the radar track, and hit the very office investigating that missing trillion. The maneuver was beyond the ability of the person claimed to be flying it. Of course the missing trillion was never mentioned again. This is one of literally hundreds of amazing “coincidences” on that day. Believing the official story on 911 is like believing Alice in Wonderland really happened.

Of course it hurts the heart to imagine the US govt hasn’t told the whole truth. Of course it does. Notice I said the heart not the head. This is about emotion. Refusing to believe the US govt could have possibly lied to us over 911 is an emotional position, not a logical one. You think it’s logical, but it’s not. If it was logical, then go through that entire 5 min video and logically account for every single issue that it raises and there are about 40 issues in that 5 mins it touches on. Do that calmly and logically. You can’t. I’ll tell you now. There is no logic on Earth that accounts for all the issues raised in that 5 min segment being all just accidental coincidences. There is emotion on Earth that accounts for them: “Oh say can you see, by the dawn’s early light…”

All of you people who currently believe the same things this guys lawyers used to believe, are doing so entirely based on emotion. You are. Sorry about that, but you are. So wake up. It’s important that you do, because significant things are happening this year and next that will change your world, seriously.

Top 10 reasons Obama will lose the election –

The working assumption, in the modern media, is that Obama simply cannot lose his reelection bid. Obviously, they want “The One” to be around for two. While their ever-present and sometimes intense rooting for him will certainly help Obama, there are a host of reasons why Obama will lose. Here’s a list:

1. Obama’s Shrinking Coalition. Obama was only elected with 52.9% of the vote. That is a slim majority. Since taking office he has shrunk that coalition by fighting with Americans. Here are some of the ways he did that:

a. He alienated most of what little Republican support he had with the Stimulus Bill;
b. He alienated support in energy related states by shutting down the Gulf after the BP spill, rejecting the Keystone pipeline, and imposing part of Cap & Trade through the EPA after it failed in Congress, including his draconian new rules for the coal industry;
c. He alienated law and order folks by wanting to try foreign combatants in American Courts;
d. He alienated many religious minded voters, including Catholic Bishops (no easy task) with his mandated contraception insurance coverage rules; and
e. He alienated voters who care about the Constitution, or at least our governmental balance with ObamaCare, his imposition of Czars and other rather undemocratic ways of he is pushing his policies on the American voter.
Also, Obama’s current strategy of pitting Americans against one another is a complete reversal of his 2008 strategy of wanting to unite people and is an admission that his prior coalitions have fallen apart.

2. The Enthusiasm Gap. Rabid support on the Left has dropped for Obama. To them, Obama is not as “pure” as they would like. That drop off is not an unusual effect for a sitting President. Beyond that, in 2008, enthusiasm was greatly in favor of the Democrats, yet Obama only got to 52.9% of the vote. In the 2010 midterm elections, the enthusiasm advantage was held by Republicans to great effect. The same dynamic will hold true this year even if not to the same degree.

3. ObamaCare’s Impending Supreme Defeat. ObamaCare has never been popular with voters. Since it was imposed on voters, a majority of Americans have been against it and by a 3 to 1 margin they have been against the individual mandate. If and when the Supreme Court overturns it, voters will be happy it is gone and Obama will be tagged with a major and embarrassing election year defeat.

4. Obama has raised Taxes and is Campaigning to Do it Again. In over 20 ways, including Obamacare, Obama has raised taxes against far more than those making over $250,000. He will let the Bush tax cuts expire and he is actively campaigning for tax increases. The last 8 Presidential winners have campaigned for tax cuts – as Obama did 4 years ago. No winners in the last 8 have campaigned for tax increases.

5. The Deficit is Too High for Reelection. The deficit is over a trillion dollars per year and is expected to be so for some time. National debt has risen to the top of polling concerns of Americans. Bush 41, despite an improving economy that was growing over 4% per year on Election Day, lost his reelection because Ross Perot made the deficit such a huge issue. Although the deficit alone does not hold center stage in this election, it certainly is dragging down Obama’s approval numbers.

6. Unemployment too High for a Reelection. We haven’t reelected a President, since the Great Depression, with unemployment above 7.2%. It is above 8% now and recent figures give every indication it may go higher. Further, the number of Americans that have dropped out of the workforce/looking for a job is at an all-time high. Reagan was reelected despite what was then a high rate because unemployment had dropped from 10.8% 23 months earlier to 7.2% by Election Day. Obama can show no such progression. Indeed, some economists expect it to rise in the short run.

7. Obama’s Leadership Deficit: He Has No Plans for our Major Problems & Blames Others. Devoid of a good economic record and despite enacting or imposing all of his policies, Obama continues to blame others for America’s problems. That is decidedly un-presidential after 4 years. Worse, he has no clear plans to deal with the future. No plan to deal with unemployment, no clear plans to deal with the deficit (other than raising tax rates – bad idea), no clear plans to deal with high gas prices, no clear plans to deal with rising health care premiums, etc. Leadership is about vision, plans, the ability to execute on those two and the ability to get voters to support them and help you. Without clear plans, voters won’t back Obama after 4 years of economic trouble. Fool me once . . .

8. Consumer Confidence is too low for a Reelection. We haven’t reelected a president or his party in the television age with Consumer Confidence Index, as measured by The Conference Board, below 100. Right now it is at 70. Although it was improving earlier this year from around 60 a year ago, higher gas prices have begun to choke off the economy and the unemployment picture is and will be impacted by our slowing economy. Gas prices will rise again this summer further impacting Consumer Confidence. As a result, it will be nearly impossible for Consumer Confidence to get anywhere near 100. It may not get to 80. So for Obama to win, the last two reason (unemployment and consumer confidence) would have to be ignored in historic fashion.

9. Republicans will Rise from Here. The end of a tough primary fight is usually the low point for the out party. Republican on Republican or Democrat on Democrat can be quite negative because the policy differences between the two are usually small and therefore to make a difference, candidates get personal. Once it becomes Republican on Democrat, policy differences can take center stage. In this case, it will move from Republican infighting to Obama’s record. That’s a stage on which Republicans can win.

10. A Simple, Practical Presidential Election. It is true; this is the most important election in a generation. From ObamaCare, to the economy, the next Supreme Court appointment, to Iran, there is a lot on the line. Even so, it will not be a complicated election. Romney can campaign rather easily with practical solutions:

a. Obama won’t let Keystone be built, I will;
b. Obama won’t repeal ObamaCare, I will;
c. Obama’s budget leads to more deficits; I will cut the deficit;
d. Obama will continue to raise your taxes; I will clean up the tax code.

In the final analysis, people will do two things this fall: (1) ask if they are better off than 4 years ago and (2) cast a vote for their future. Statistically, voters are not better off – whether that is based on employment figures or loss in wealth including dramatic drops in home owner equity. Psychologically, they are not better off either. Over 2/3rds say we are headed in the wrong direction (reason #11).

After 4 years of that, voters want direction not excuses – a plan not vague promises. Obama has never given an agenda to the American people – he just enforces his agenda many times over their objections. Romney, by contrast, will provide a clear and practical path forward. In times of trouble, people want someone with a plan – all of which means that Romney can win this election – even decisively.

Nothing like a bit of exaggeration to try and make a bad story look better – Sky City themselves are only saying 800 jobs once the centre is up and running, and do not say what the mix is between full and part time jobs. 900 construction jobs has also been mentioned, but these will have stopped by the time the 800 previously mentioned get started.

John Key is also trying to turn a conscience vote on gambling into an economic debate – such is the thinking of a party that is only focussed on money and not real outcomes for real people.

Act MP John Banks is being accused of not following the rules in his 2010 bid to win the Auckland Super City mayoralty.
Labour MP Grant Robertson used the protection of Parliamentary privilege to accuse Mr Banks of not declaring a $15,000 donation he received from SkyCity Casino towards his mayoral campaign.
He said SkyCity has said it gave $15,000 to both main candidates in the 2010 election and has a policy of asking candidates to declare such donations.

Sorry, didn’t see your question earlier.
You asked which countries had benefitted hugely from Muslim immigration. I must admit this was somewhat of a flippant statement, as there is no evidence that they haven’t. Immigration is a problematic issue in many countries, including NZ but I haven’t seen anything to justify the scare stories along the lines of ‘we’re heading for the same disasters as Europe’, for the simple reason that I see no disasters in Europe from immigration and the embracing of multiculturalism.

A REPORT commissioned by the government and released yesterday has given the green light to the extraction of shale gas. The report concludes that hydraulic fracturing (fracking), a technology that pumps water and chemicals underground to fracture shale formations in order to release trapped gas, is safe but requires tight regulation and seismic monitoring.

The impact of the government’s endorsement could be dramatic for Britain’s energy policy. According to estimates of the International Energy Agency, globally there is enough natural gas for the next 120 years at current rates of consumption. Supplies of unconventional gas could provide us with this cheap and relatively clean energy for another 250 years or more. Energy crisis? What energy crisis?

120 years ago we had no cars, radio, flight, computers, TV, heart surgery, refigeration, internet, computers. Given our spectacular track record of innovation, does anyone really believe that 120 years from now that gas will run out and the lights go off?

Well, the Greens do. But that’s because they believe seeding apocalyptic fear is a mechanism to gain control of you today.
