David Garrett made “NO OPOLOGY” to the family after been caught stealing.

A brother of the dead child said that Mr Garrett was the “lowest of the low”
The brother of the dead boy told the Herald: “How much lower can you go? I know damn well if my father was alive, being a Scotsman, he would have gone after him, I would think.”
He said he would probably “lose his cool” if he came face to face with Mr Garrett.
His 94-year-old mother was “disgusted over the whole thing”, he said.
He was not aware of any apology that had come from Mr Garrett, but thought his mother would be expecting one.
“Surely the guy has got the balls to stand up and say, ‘I did something wrong’. And he didn’t do that.”
The man said he was about 16 when his 2-year-old brother was admitted to hospital after contracting a virus infection. Death came suddenly.
He described his young brother as “a real bubbly little kid”, and his death as a “hell of a shock” to the family.
Another brother said that as far as he knew, no one in his family had received an apology, let alone an explanation, from Mr Garrett.
“It’s quite alarming. I didn’t think that sort of thing was happening here. It’s very hard to believe that a person could consider taking the identity of a baby,” he said.
In the court documents, the deceased child’s mother said the identity theft caused her considerable stress and anxiety, and what Mr Garrett did was “akin to stealing from a grave”.
The dead boy’s sister was also quoted.
“The deeply cruel, shameful and malicious manner in acquiring such details has caused deep distress for the entire family, especially for my elderly mother, to be subjected to further trauma and pain in the memory of her beloved infant son and our darling little brother’s name.
Court documents reveal Mr Garrett visited a cemetery in New Plymouth in 1984 and found the gravestone of the boy, whose birthdate was close to his own.
He copied the details, obtained the child’s birth certificate, filled out a passport application form and photographed himself in a disguise which included dyed hair and glasses.
Garrett gave a fake postal address in Christchurch on his application form and supplied a fake reference of another offender: It was, as with many crimes, a series of deliberate steps.”
The family of the dead child whose identity was stolen “have effectively been gagged for years by a suppression order while they have to listen to Mr Garrett pontificating about being opposed to suppression orders, being in favour of openness, being in favour of the rights of victims”.
Garrett said and he never used the passport. “AFTER” it expired, he destroyed it.
Garrett having first denied the allegation of stealing to police.
Garrett said being locked up by police was “very difficult to cope with”. “PUSSY”
Garrett’s lawyer, Gary Gotlieb, told the judge that Garrett had an anxiety disorder and may have lost his legal practising certificate if he was convicted.
He had an anxiety depressive condition and was taking medication at the time of appearing in court.
Garrett asked to keep his identity secret to “maintain his reputation”.

There’s risks for National – the Mighty River float needs to be successfull, and for that to happen the market needs to be in reasonable shape. Success is dependent on implementation, and international influences.

Labour/Greens are taking a huge risk betting so much on a petition/referendum that everyone knows can be ignored anyway. And seems to be far too late.

princetipytoe – to perhaps reduce the inches you waste on this blog, you could just outline your relationship to David Garrett and your personal objection to him. Other contributors here are apparently guilty of past criminal acts like armed robbery and it is not established they have apologised either.
Do you have any more specific points so we can help you with your problem?

For obvious reasons I did not plan to comment on the latest attack from “Princetipytoe” who I suspect is the “Dennis” who has obsessions with both Garth McVicar and me, and is the person DPF banned some months ago. I feel obliged to correct an untrue claim in the latest attack.

I wish to inform my fellow commenters that the claim that I “never apologised” is quite untrue. The mother and sister of the dead boy made submissions to the court. I wrote letters of apology to both of them, and gave the letters to my then lawyer to forward to the Police prosecutor. I was not allowed to write to them directly. I have no way of knowing if those letters reached their destination. If they did not, then I deeply regret that, but it was out of my hands by that point.

I do not propose to make any further comment on this issue.

Why doesn anyone care about Garrett’s misdeeds 30 years ago? He’s not even a political figure any more as far as I know. Besides this is justa Blog, complaining here acheives nothing. If you feel so cut up about what Garrett did, go take a shit on his porch or something, that would acheive more then bleating on a Blog.

David Cunliffe gave a speech in the weekend that I thought was being promoted as something big, it had been signposted for weeks. Grant Robertson attended to dispel any leadership accusations.

I thought it was a good speech, raising some very pertinent points looking ahead. But the speech has been ignored by media – and virtually ignored by Labour online.

What happened to David Cunliffe’s speech?

immigant: The short answer to your question is that the gummint – including this National government – has passed legislation giving “iwi” – which seems to be a nice flexible word – control of the Waikato River, and an effective right of veto as to who can take water from it.

I recall sitting in the House when the Waikato River Authority Bill was passed…hearing Finlayson trying to say “this is a one off…not a precedent…In front of me, Tariana Turia was saying “oh yes it is, the Wanganui [her dialect doesn’t aspirate the ‘wh’] will be next”. Only ACT voted against that Bill.

For once the Greens’ “thin end of the wedge” argument is right; once you allow “iwi” – or even worse the all encompassing “maori” – expectations over the control of water usage from rivers, then this sort of claim will follow, as sure as night follows day.

Apparently yes – Wanganui iwi have in the past claimed it is their rain that passes from their province to fall in the mountains of Tuwharetoa and thus it is partly their water in the Waikato.
Good. Let them quantify that and sort it out.

Sofia: Except that “they” dont spend the resources “quantifying and sorting out” these bullshit claims. The Tribunal already operates on an “accept all claims at face value in the first instance basis.” The “sorting out’ involves researchers employed by or contracted to the Tribunal…all of which costs money…YOUR money.

Take WAI 262 – the claim to Maori ownership or guardianship or whatever it is to all the flora and fauna in the country. When that was filed it was largely seen as a joke. It is no joke. A claim regarding the rain than the river water that results may well be treated just as seriously.

Contrary to what the PC brigade would have us believe – they might even actually believe their own bullshit – there is considerable enmity between various iwi…and Maori, like the other polynesians, can nurture grievances for generations, apparently living perfectly peaceably with people from different tribes…until an opportunity arises to avenge some long past wrong done to an ancestor. And that is not of course unique to polynesia.

Is it “racist” to observe that this is exactly what occurred in the Balkans in the 90’s? And what has been occurring in the Balkans for hundreds of years prior to that? Any bets that there won’t be a further round of bloodletting there within our (my) lifetime to avenge those killed in the 90’s?

Anywhere tribalism is not only allowed to flourish but encouraged, bitter division seems to inevitably follow.

Crap reporting. The cost of making the machines safe is a cost of being in business so they should only attribute the fine to cost.

Unusually though it doesnt seem any of the fine has gone to the employee which frequently happens (so much for “no fault” ACC).

I’m with DG on the potential for violence.
My particular interest is Ireland.
In the mid to late 1800’s the place was beginning to settle down and prosper (like the rest of Great Britain).This didn’t suit the extreme nationalists who launched a Gaelic Revival,language ,games,separate identity ie we are Irish not British etc. Harking back to times of warrior kings and queens and an idealised past.
While many of these folk espoused constitutionalism there was always a violent strand……and we still see the legacy of that created separateness and hatred today.

Does any of this sound familiar?

There are an awful lot of New Zealanders, of all colours and creed, who are horrified by New Zealand’s descent into ‘apartheid-like’ separatism.
I for one genuinely fear for the future of this country and it’s inhabitants if we continue to pander to seperatists and extremists (any study of History tells us that this will end very badly)

Water rights are not part of the equation in the governments proposed asset sales. Maori interests in the catchments , riverbeds and lakebeds are all protected under Treaty legislation, if not they would be flogged off at the first opportunity by the government of the day.

When George Orwell created his fictional ‘thought police’ and ‘Ministry of Truth’, he was attacking Stalinism and its attempt to re-configure human psychology itself.

Incredible as it may seem, that’s what we have in New Zealand with ‘political correctness’, which should more properly be called cultural Stalinism — a regime of oppression and intimidation in which even innocent children are being branded as bigots.
A kinder, gentler world? No, this is where freedom dies with a boot stamping on its face.

Racism is being redefined to include not only hateful references to someone’s colour, but any reference to it at all.

Culture should be seperated from the state.

Sure, under the Treaty government has to ‘promote’ Maori culture, but there is a very fine line between ‘promotion’ and ‘imposing’.Maori culture should only be promoted via the state onto Maori.

Maori don’t like other cultures being ‘imposed’ apon them -as we have all dearly learnt- so why would the government not learn from that mistake and stop promoting Maori, Poly and other cultures onto others ?

If people want to speak, print, write, copy anything other than english then that is their business – but it doesn’t need to be everyone elses business via the state.

<Maori and others have to stop behaving like crusaders and colonisers.

Basically, Hans Grueber wants to able to use the new toll road from Orewa to Puhoi without paying the toll. He also claims that there isn’t a high level of support for tolls.

Well here’s a news flash for Mr Grueber. Nobody is forcing him to use the toll road. The old road is still there, just where it always was, and is perfectly useable. If there was no support for the toll road, then nobody would be using the damn thing, would they? They would use the old toll-free road, which is sign-posted. But the fact is, people use the toll road.

He just wants something for nothing, and wants other people to pay for it.

I think that the transport authorities should sign post, on Highway One just north of Wairakei, the Atiamuri Dam. It is one of the world’s weirdest hydro electric schemes.
The water, as it enters the turbines belongs to the Tuwharetoa people. As it exits the turbines it becomes the property of the Waikato people. This change in property rights occurs every second of the day. It is fascinating.
This has got to be a world first.

Before the US’ actions following 911, I used to place Carter’s comments on human rights alongside those of the Communist League. Since 911 however its all too obvious that he has a point. This time. It’s a shame certain others are blinded by something, who knows what, that they can’t and possibly never will see, the blindingly obvious.

Attacks on human rights after 9/11 had been “sanctioned and escalated by bipartisan executive and legislative actions, without dissent from the general public”, he said. “As a result, our country can no longer speak with moral authority on these critical issues.”

Carter added: “While the country has made mistakes in the past, the widespread abuse of human rights over the last decade has been a dramatic change from the past.”

A young man moved from his parents home into a new apartment of his own and went to the lobby to put his name on his mailbox.
While there, an attractive young lady came out of the apartment next to the mailboxes, wearing a robe.

“What would you say is my best feature?” Flustered and embarrassed, he finally squeaked, “It’s got to be your ears.”

Astounded, and a little hurt she asked, “My ears? Look at these breasts; they are full and 100% natural. I work out every day and my butt is firm and solid. Look at my skin – no blemishes anywhere, so how can you think that the best part of my body is my ears?!”

The whole Syria campaign is one big massive bollocks propaganda operation from start to finish O_A. Even screaming lefties like Mary Wilson are completely taken in. Listen to the segment on Syria on Checkpoint tonight where she talks to some Aussie uni guy whose pushing the meme.

It’s incredible, to me. I’ve been watching it for 18 months now, it’s like so elegant but so appalling at the same time. Given I know it’s all been planned, that every single murder and rape, even of kids, has been committed by these rebels which have been armed and trained by western agencies and every single lying bollocks report out of every single journo’s mouth has been carefully designed to inculcate in the minds of the sheeple one thing: that of course, its the Syrian govt, no question. And its all complete and utter bullshit.

It’s a fucking shame the sheeple AND the journos are ALL so profoundly stupid it never occurs to any of the idiots, not one, to ever ask themselves one simple question. Why has Assad started doing this all of a sudden when there has been decades and decades of relative peace under his rule? How come just when it was convenient for the west to get rid of Syria so that it could take out the last ally between it and Iran, how come just then, once it has done Egypt and Libya and now its Syria’s turn, how come that timing, is never looked at, as a suspicious element in this equation? Not one single journalist in the entire 18 or so months this has been bubbling away has never really looked at that, apart from the pro-Arab ones, who know what it’s all about but whom are all dismissed by the westerners, because they’re pro Arab and therefore, they MUST be wrong, they CAN’T be right.

Killer drifting driver to be beheaded

A Saudi court sentenced a middle-aged joy-rider to death by beheading for accidentally killing two people while performing a car stunt near the capital Riyadh, the Saudi newspaper Al Watan has reported.

A pastime known as “drifting,” in which drivers make their cars spin and skid at high speed, is popular among Saudi men with few options for entertainment in a conservative kingdom where cinemas do not exist and mixing between unrelated men and women is forbidden.

Al Watan reported that the defendant, which it said identified himself as “Mutannish” – “he who ignores” in Arabic, struck and killed two men while performing the thrill-seeking stunt and fled the scene before being arrested.

“The court of Onaiza handed down a sentence to kill the drifter ‘mutannish’ by beheading as punishment for his heinous deed and to deter others who tamper with the nation’s security,” the report stated.

Al Watan did not say when the sentence would be carried out. A Justice Ministry spokesman could not be reached for comment.

Saudi authorities have treated deaths resulting from acts of “drifting” as criminally negligent homicides.

In 2005, a Saudi naval officer found guilty of killing three minors in a stunt-driving accident was handed a death sentence that was subsequently reduced to 3000 lashes and 20 years in prison, according to local media.

Saudi Arabia, which follows a strict version of Sunni Islam, does not have a written penal code and judges issue verdicts according to their own interpretation of the Koran.

Amnesty International has said that at least 82 people were executed in Saudi Arabia last year, many of them by public beheading.

Circumcising young boys on religious grounds amounts to grievous bodily harm, a German court ruled Tuesday in a landmark decision that the Jewish community said trampled on parents’ religious rights.
The regional court in Cologne, western Germany, ruled that the “fundamental right of the child to bodily integrity outweighed the fundamental rights of the parents”, a judgement that is expected to set a legal precedent.
“The religious freedom of the parents and their right to educate their child would not be unacceptably compromised, if they were obliged to wait until the child could himself decide to be circumcised,” the court added … The decision caused outrage in Germany’s Jewish community … The court specified that circumcision was not illegal if carried out for medical reasons.

May have some implications for the psychological damage of children adopted to married same sex parents – or not

Taking it too far as usual. Everything is smoke and mirrors in the Middle East. Propaganda, Takkya or kitman are a way of life, part of the culture in Dar Al Islam. Both sides are as bad as each other. It is a change of the guard in Egypt, Libya, Algeria etc. In a few years time there will be another ‘revolution’ with more bloodshed.

The news that you can achieve an orgasm while working out in the gym may be just the incentive to get women back on those medicine balls and doing floor crunches, as the results of a new study suggest.

Scientists at the Centre for Sexual Health Promotion at Indiana University in the US have released data on the links between orgasms and physical exercise, which have been termed “coregasms”, LiveScience reports.

New contract to ‘rebalance’ ACC targets

ACC Minister Judith Collins will set out tough new expectations in a new contract with the troubled corporation – to be tabled in Parliament today.

The document is a rolling three-year service and purchase agreement between the Government and the state insurer.

It is understood to be a long way from an agreement signed in June 2010 by former minister Nick Smith, which focused on financial performance, and will “rebalance” its objectives.

Dr Smith and board chairman John Judge – who was let go this month – agreed ACC would get rid of 1150 long-term clients a year.

Ms Collins, who is in China, has said she wants to drive a “culture change” to restore public confidence in the corporation.

Would be:
Nice if the customers were asked what they wanted to buy.

But no, compulsion by socialists still.
