Valerie Adams deserved to come second, good on her for that.

1. Homosexual “marriage”? Personally I am ambivalent. But if this is now a “major” issue then I am fast moving toward opposition to any law change. By the way, can we please drop “gay” and “rainbow”, and tell it like it is?

2. Can someone direct me to reliable research (not PC BS or pleadings) that confirms that human homosexuality is a normal state? I am willing to be persuaded. Live and let live, but like many I am fed up with the continuing campaign to try and ram this down my throat.

3. It is time Whale and DPF to let it go.

4. And did you notice the increase in National Party “poll” support following Key telling the troughers that the an ELECTED government cannot and will not be bound by some group that has suddenly taken judicial standing for itself ?????? Time to scrub the “tribunal”.

Was watching the shotput yesterday on television.
Entering the Belarussian and Italian competitors.
It was like watching the cast of “Dumb and Dumber” walk on stage.
They throw like men, walk like men, talk like men and look like men.
(Do they pee standing up?)
Is it a wonder some women can’t be bothered competing anymore.

My son pointed at the TV and said:
“It’s not fair, why does Valerie have to compete with men?”
…..Out of the mouths of babes.

I have allready bought the book “Larry and Harry love each other and are getting married” to add to his education.
When I get to it I will explain the whole diversity-inclusive-non discrimatory LBGT(CGSTFRD) situation.
This morning he asked me why he can’t wear a dress to school.
I told him he could if he feels inclined to.
Who knows, he might become a great shot putter….

There really is no demand to allow homosexuals to marry – it is all Fabian b/s designed to undermine the family and remove another layer between state and individual. Like his positioning on “global warming” now changed to the catch all “climate change”, DPF gives us a level of argument I would expect from a 6th former who thinks they can see both sides of the argument but is so intent on conforming to a received view that he fails to see it for what it really is. If there is a demand for homosexual marriage, either have the Nats put it in there manifesto and campaign on it or otherwise put it to a referendum and see how popular it really is.

The Oruanui eruption of New Zealand’s Taupo Volcano was the world’s largest known eruption in the past 70,000 years, with a Volcanic Explosivity Index of 8. It occurred around 26,500 years ago in the Late Pleistocene and generated approximately 430 km3 (100 cu mi) of pyroclastic fall deposits, 320 km3 (77 cu mi) of pyroclastic density current (PDC) deposits (mostly ignimbrite) and 420 km3 (100 cu mi) of primary intracaldera material, equivalent to 530 km3 (130 cu mi) of magma. The eruption is divided into 10 phases on the basis of nine mappable fall units and a tenth, poorly preserved but volumetrically dominant fall unit.
Modern Lake Taupo partly fills the caldera generated during this eruption; a 140 km2 (54 sq mi) structural collapse area is concealed beneath the lake, while the lake outline reflects coeval peripheral and volcano-tectonic collapse. Early eruption phases saw shifting vent positions; development of the caldera to its maximum extent (indicated by lithic lag breccias) occurred during phase 10.

Vals’ silver. sad for the individual athlete. can we have a story like the one slagging off the Aussie silver swimmer,Val had a blub too. Goose/gander.

“Women” athletes. In these days of high technology they should be scanned to see if there are any nuts hiding up there. The games could then be heralded as even more inclusive than they already are, what with a shitload of ‘trans” or whatever they call the latest group of excluded ,discriminated against minority.

Anyone else notice how many of the flower girls at the medal ceremonies are lads? More inclusiveness and equality?

Val Adams gets beaten into silver and Radio Sport and talkback is rife with conspiracy theories and allegations of drug cheating already (similar to whenever the All Blacks get beaten) -God New Zealanders are just the worst sports sometimes.
Considering how embarrassingly both Campbell and Sainsbury were beating their chests and absolutely crowing over the Aussies last night…Yes we punch above our weight sporting wise, it’s just a bloody shame our media have to be so undignified about it.
We really have a lot of growing up to do when it comes to sports…

Judith Collins has replied to a request for her position on the minimum price of alcohol:

The Government is currently investigating a minimum pricing scheme for alcohol.

The Government wants to make sure that any pricing strategy will reduce harm caused by alcohol without unduly impacting responsible drinkers.

I am waiting until the investigation is complete before making any decisions about implementing a minimum pricing scheme.

It’s also a shame there have been some mindblowing performances in London (Ilya Ilyin,Jessica Ennis etc etc) that havn’t even been mentioned or shown by a NZ media too obsessed with beating their own chests and Aussie bashing.
Really, really disappointed with NZ media’s one-eyed coverage of the games. I for one would much rather have seen the women’s 100m final or Murray vs Federer on the news than yet another crowing ‘We’ve got more gold medals than Aussie’ report…

Talking about games coverage, I enjoyed watching the rowing successes and near successes, but I’ve been disappointed with the quality of coverage.

Unless a boat in the near lane was near the front it was not visible from much of the race coverage. And apart from the short 500, 1000, 1500 and finish shots it was very difficult to keep track of who was where and what movements were occurring.

Surely they could have a camaera reacking the boats all the way from side on. Far too much fancy coverage and not enough of the basics.

Same applies with kayak/canoe coverage.

Meanwhile, without a whole lot of media attention, the Women’s Black Sticks manage to make it to the semi-finals for the first time ever, by winning three matches, drawing one, and losing just one. This, in what has been considered a pretty brutal pool.

Coach Mark Hager pulled a swifty. They only needed a draw against Germany last night, but he decided to let his team think they had to win to advance to the semifinal, thinking an attacking approach was most likely to upset Germany.

Mean, but looks like it worked!

Longknives thinks Val Adams is a mighty athlete but agrees with Dime re the overuse of “Greatest Ever”..

Apparently our two rowing medals last week were our “Greatest Ever” sports moment yet people were saying that last year about that decidedly shaky Rugby World Cup final win. The phrase “Greatest Ever” seems to get bandied around in this country like a cheap whore.

Ritchie McCaw was called our “Greatest Ever” All Black on TV recently. Hang on- Wasn’t that Colin Meads? Or George Nepia? Not to mention Sonny Bill Williams is apparently the “Greatest Ever” at absolutely every bloody thing he does (rugby, league, boxing mowing the lawns etc etc)….

While I completely agree with overuse of “greatest ever” I found Valerie Adams’ performance in the olympic 2008 “rock throwing” final one of the more impressive and even moving sports things I’ve watched. She was just so much better than the rest of the world, and by her demeanour it was obvious she was there to do a job not to make an arse of herself. She made her competitors look like a joke. I was proud.

Until you agree on the criteria there will never be a “greatest ever” unless you are a dimwitted journalist with a propensity towards verbal diarrhoea (actually I could without losing when you consider any meaning).

Bond and Murray must be up there when you consider that they have not been beaten for three years – particularly given the emphatic way that they have been winning. On the other hand, they are fully funded. Peter Snell, as I recall, was also undefeated for some considerable time, was not fully funded and won three gold medals. How many other people have won the 800/1500 double?

The two dudes who won that rowing thing have never been beaten. they were totally dominant. bet we hear bugga all about them over the next few years. they wont be the face the media use to promote the olympics.

President Obama said in 2010 that “the true engine of economic growth will always be companies like Solyndra“.

Solyndra was a solar panel company which was declared bankrupt in August 2011, having first squandered $600m from the US taxpayer. It is part of a growing list in the Green Graveyard of Taxpayer Funded Failures.

Today Obama tried to claim the hindsight is always 20/20, when it now appears he was advised that the company wasn’t a good bet at all… prior to more taxpayer money being handed over. Typical.

How fortunate we were in the 80s that two of our greatest cricketers (Hadlee and Crowe) were playing test cricket at the same time , compare that to the embarrassingly disinterested bunch of turkeys (self-professed “T20 specialists”) that call themselves the “Black Caps” these days…

My 7 year old summed it up this morning: “why is the shot put final mixed men and woman dad?” Ostapchuk looked like Benny Hill doing a really bad impression. But then Eastern European women – 5% are gorgeous, the 95% balance are a product of their cabbage and spud eating ancestors…

And one of the greatest for me was the mens hockey gold at Montreal. Fabulous win, and Plungers broken knee in the last 20 minutes summed it up. Amazing effort.

Oops, irony/hypocrisy alert leaping out of that statement.

Besides, Parliament hasn’t been hijacked by this issue at all. Its simply a private member’s bill that by its very nature attracts public interest and debate. Parliament has continued to do what it does (like the fuckwit Mallard v Banks yesterday) without missing a beat.

On the other hand, this blog has been hijacked by it for the simple reason that it provides yet another convenient opportunity for the usual suspects to hijack this blog with G** which they seize upon whenever they perceive a public or social issue with the faintest hint of a potential G** spin.

For years I’ve watched you lot being variously taunted and teased. Some of it I thought was a bit uncalled for. But then I’ve seen your indignation at muslims’ lack of tolerance on religious issues, and your out of hand dismissal of others’ ethnic sensitivities as lacking humour or being simply ridiculous because it didn’t conform to your value sets, and I’ve compared that with the outpouring of bile and bigotry around all sorts of issues, including this most recent one that. We can joke about muslims but we can’t joke about Catholic priests. I’ve seen the exposure of your hypocrisy in this regard eventually manifest itself in a circling of the wagons and deployment of the usual variations on the good old “your bad means my bad was OK” defence. This defence has, remarkably, been passed down through the ages despite its lack of success and compelling lack of logic (perhaps explaining its popularity with the G**-bothering community).

I’ve watched you try to convince the heathens of the existence of your G** by quoting passages from the umpteenth translation of bits of paper that were produced over the period of hundreds of years and then squirreled away about the desert, stashed upon rocky outcrops, or dictated first hand by G** himself, before undergoing a process of consolidation under close security to be eventually revealed in a two-part volume that could not be legally accessed unless one happened to be in top management with an equity stake in the franchise.

I’ve often thought that trying to convince someone of something by quoting from something that the target audience simply does not believe in because it could not be scientifically or rationally proven was an overly optimistic endeavour, but at the same time marvelled at the sheer tenacity and dogged stupidity of those who contiue to hurl themselves at the battlements of sense and reason. My only residual concern though, is that you are allowed to vote and that perhaps we ought to consider amendments to the Mental Health Act.

My personally preference is that if people want to debate G** then go to a Church. If I buy a new car or a new house or a big screen TV, I promise I won’t come here every day and tell you how wonderful it is and how happy I am that I bought it and then go on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on about it as if I’ve actually invented it myself or only just found about about it.

So what’s it all about then? I think the biggest thing to come out of this [whisper font] you know what [normal font] marriage business is that I no longer have any sympathy for the G**-botherers who are doing my head in. And when I’m up there explaining my cunning death bed confession strategy to No. 1 and making my case, I’ll be pointing out my proven track record in trying to show the usual suspects that their little glee club here is entirely counter-productive to the Big Guy’s marketing strategy.

I’ll be telling him that I didn’t bludge from, steal from, rape, assault, or murder my neighbours, nor rort WFF with rental losses, vote for Liebour or Peters, that when I didn’t have a job I didn’t go on the bludge because I didn’t need to, that people who earned more than me doing jobs they didn’t actually like under enormous pressure deserve what they earn, that I had the same opportunities as everyone else and it was my choices that made my life what it is. I think my case will be a bit more compelling than the usual suspects. In fact, although they might not necessarily be denied entry, I expect that the likes of Lee01, Andrei, kowtow might find that they wind up spending the first few thousand years parking cars during the day and then doing a double night shift in the laundary getting the stains out of the priests’ cassocks. That will give them time to reflect upon the meaning of His love and His compassion.

The fascinating story of NIWA cooking NZs temperature record, claiming they didn’t, then when sprung claiming the records weren’t ‘official’, then getting peer review from their Aussie counterparts and refusing to release that. Extract:

The Australians must have said something awful.

In the never ending quest to hide information that the taxpayer paid for, the New Zealand trial of skeptics vs alarmists is rising to new heights.

This is a legal case asking for discovery of documents, which is much harder to dodge than a simple FOI. Yet NIWA are putting in an Olympic effort to hide what the Australian BOM (their allies?) have said about their work.

The bottom line is that the NIWA team peer reviewed Australia’s new ACORN temperature set and endorsed it as being “worlds best practice” which (judging by what we’ve seen) it clearly is. What a damning review. The NIWA practice is so bad, that even the Australian BOM can’t return the favor and pretend to say something good about it.

NIWA (New Zealand’s National Institute of Water & Atmospheric Research) is the official New Zealand organization responsible for climate pronouncements. They pronounced that the country had warmed almost 1°C during the twentieth century, but, oh dear, when skeptics looked, the raw data showed a rise of only 0.23°C in the same time period. And in the full record, the trend was only a 0.06°C per century since 1850. (During the 19th Century that’s only a 400% exaggeration of the observed trend. It’s more if we look at the whole record.)

blogs are reflection of the views of the bloger not scientific fact
If we believed the life span of solar panels from your post yesterday we would think that they only last a maximum of twenty years not have more than 80% out put after twenty years and last for more than forty and still work

You really should see someone about your dewy-eyed admiration for these prestigious TLD’s, because, surprise, surprise, their content reflects editorial bias no more, and no less than blogs.

NIWA are in trouble for cooking NZ’s temperature record, as established by several reviews and quite possibly soon to be so established by the NZ courts. That you’d link to temperature record from NIWA’s site in their defence is really quite stupid, but not unexpected.

Now that totalitarian communism has been (in its’ most blatant manifestations)defeated the greatest danger to the west and our freedoms is probably a renewed militant Islam. This is aided by demographics as well as the current vogue for multiculturalism,diversity,equality,human rights etc.
This is more than religious it is about the very existence of the west as we have known it.

The trouble is comments quickly become extreme.
There are a lot (as in majority I might venture) who occupy various regions of the middle ground.

I personally am just as derisive of someone stating science has demonstrated it all therefore there is no higher being, as I am of closed minded believers who follow word for word what their English translated bible says, even if it obviously out of context and originally presented to a different culture in a different time in a different language. E.g. the Hebrew actually states the earth was not made in six days. But trying to tell a fundy that is pointless.
Conversely the journey into the sub atomic is an uncharted world where the comfort of Occam’s razor is of little use.

* 21 were convicted of homicide-related offences including manslaughter and attempted murder
* 7146 were convicted of acts intended to cause injury
