Pike River Mine Disaster.
I still cannot find where my donation to the Fund ($7.5m in this public donation) went – how much was the overall total – a suggestion that something like $20 was finally available – seems high perhaps but –
tell me – why doesn’t the MSM want to cover this – trying again to embarrass the Government – like the judgement given the other day.
Now the the Police have decided that no individual was responsible, as they could not get to the site, to determine the ignition cause of the explosion. Fair decision.

I question that the Royal Commission maintained in its report that many safety rules appear to he been regularly broken – matches and cigarettes were taken in by miners, mobile phones, and that the methane censors were often smothered by oxygen to reduce the methane level reading equipment. – By the Miners themselves ?

This could appear to have been a dereliction of responsibility by the well paid Manager – Health and Safety, – namely Neville Rockhouse, who sadly having lost one son and the close shave of the other. If it was unsafe as he continually says why did he allow both his sons to continue to go down the mine.

Could it be allowed, with the possible knowledge of both his miner sons, that these rules were not adhered to ? He has complained again on RNZ this morning that it is a Management matter.

I suggest when the media induced scapegoat Peter Whittall comes to trial we will hear more of the failure at ground level to perform the job of Health and Safety comes up.

Could there be some contributory negligence here ?’

If there was I’d like to know what and why. Maybe colville or rf have the answer because they seem to agree with the proposition.

The kiddy fiddlers amongst them find the offspring of fellow churchgoers easy prey Kea. The kids are well brought up certainly but kept naive & respectful of authority. While their parents take their eyes off the boil poking their sharp priggish noses into the lives of the secular the freaks make their moves.

Somehow the parents seem to be crap at multitasking. 🙂

Perhaps you could answer Paul then the simple question I’ve asked others who don’t answer, how come billions of people still speak and know His name when everyone else born that long ago have long since vanished from human cognisance?

Reid, Billions more have spoken the names of other gods. You know what it is to be an atheist, as you are an atheist about most of the gods ever invented. I simply believe in one less god than you.

As peoples lives improve they less likely to turn to the dubious solace offered by the church to the emotionally and intellectually crippled who turn to religion. Religion is on the decline and places like NZ, I am proud to say, are leading the way.

Tauhei Notts , To tell the truth and in spite of all my venom for Obama, it is really the media and his supporters I am annoyed about. They hold Obama to very different standards than the previous president.

nasska, I went to Church up in Auckland recently with a lady friend who bothered god rather a lot. They were trying to get more volunteers for the creche, which I bet never happens in a Catholic Church ! They probably have to have a lottery to pick the winners 🙂

Leasehold Land.A very misunderstood concept.

Ask the people now complaining what they have been paying for the last 21 years?
The leasehold period is usually 21 years so after paying say $1000 for that time things are reassessed for the next period.Shock,horror there has been inflation and in Auckland huge increases in house values so the new lease is huuuuge!.
That’s the way it works.
Was involved with a case once where a guy was complaining and I asked what he had been paying for something like 18 years and he said $40 .
You have to prepare for the change or better still avoid leasehold property.

Kea, actually I’ve never seen a creche in a Catholic church. Families just keep their children with them, or the older kids go out to CCD during the first half.

Kea, a writer and philosopher called Will Durant once wrote –

There is no significant example in history, before our time, of a society successfully maintaining moral life without the aid of religion.

He was right, of course.

Fletch, are you trying to make the point that we need god ?

It is a common argument, advanced by theists, that we need religion to give us morality. That argument is totally discredited and it would be a sick society indeed that took its morality from the dark blood soaked pages of the bible ! Thankfully Christians ignore most of the biblical moral directives.

But that is not the point I wish to address. Whether or not society would be better off with religion provides no evidence of the existence of God. Even if you convinced me that religion is needed for morality I would remain an atheist as it does not provide any evidence of God. In fact it could be used as evidence that the concept is invented by man to give order and morality to society. This could then be explained as a simple evolutionary adaptation.
