Could there have been a worse moment in Trevor Mallard’s parliamentary career than having the piss remorselessly taken out of him by no higher journalistic authority than Rachel Glucina of the Herald? Sheesh; it’s almost enough to make you feel sorry for the bloke; almost, but not quite.

The problem isn’t that Islamic Schools are enforcing an Islamic dress code, the problem is that multiculturalism has been forced upon a population that largely doesn’t want it. But if you oppose it, you’re just an evil bigot.

Yet the position on a board of directors starts at the bottom end for crown directors (paid by taxes) at $18,000 and go up to over $50,000 for around 50 days work per year at the directors choice.

I didn’t say that they were. I was making the point that the doctrine of multiculturalism has been foisted upon many a western nation without the assent of the general population. And when a growing portion of the population refuses to adopt the cultural norms of the host country, you’re going to get friction. That friction is steadily growing in Europe and will ignite at some point. All that’s needed is a spark.

Make no mistake, the actions of the Aussie Government on this issue are being watched by other nations, with almost all looking for a political justification to follow suit

Ashley Schaeffer & hj, yes I do tend to agree with you. The question for me is how to bring this about without persecution of the innocent. I have no problems with Muslims in the West, provided they defer to Western norms should a “cultural conflict” arrise. In reality most examples of Islam being “offended” are manufactured by exremists with other agendas. I have ZERO tolerance for that.

Reinhardt has already emasculated the present (or was it the previous) chairman, by insisting that the Corporate Board prevail over the so called independent Editorial Board. She has looked at ever decreasing Fairfax advertising revenue (also afflicting Fairfax NZ) and rightly concluded that readers and advertisers do not like what they are being fed. Reinhart will win. Fairfax will change, or Fairfax will disappear by being sold off piece by piece. I suspect she does not care for left wing bias.

Kea– I know it’s all about you. Can I just chastise you for a moment? You really come across as exhibiting all the behaviours of a troll. You spent all day banging on about Christianity when the subject of the posts is Islam. Multiple posts, very long posts that people have to scroll through full of Bible verses. Even the devil can quote Scripture.

Can you get a job or something? Because right now it’s just bad manners to bang on and on about how much you hate Christianity – whatever the subject of the post might be. Surely even an atheist can have a sense of good manners?

The NIPCC releases its own report on climate change. Not looking good for the climate scare-mongers.
Unlike the IPCC, the NIPCC is not politically motivated or sponsored by governments.

On Tuesday, a group of 50 international scientists released a comprehensive new report on the science of climate change that concluded that evidence now leans against global warming resulting from human-related greenhouse gas emissions.

The report, which cites thousands of peer-reviewed articles the United Nations-sponsored panel on climate change ignored, also found that “no empirical evidence exists to substantiate the claim that 2°C of warming presents a threat to planetary ecologies or environments” and no convincing case can be made that “a warming will be more economically costly than an equivalent cooling.” The U.N.’s panel is scheduled to release its next report next month.

The Nongovernmental International Panel on Climate Change, or NIPCC, which produced the report, is described as “an international panel of scientists and scholars who came together to understand the causes and consequences of climate change.” Unlike the “United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which is government-sponsored, politically motivated, and predisposed to believing that climate change is a problem in need of a U.N. solution,” NIPCC “has no formal attachment to or sponsorship from any government or governmental agency” and is “wholly independent of political pressures and influences and therefore is not predisposed to produce politically motivated conclusions or policy recommendations.”

In Climate Change Reconsidered II: Physical Science, which The Heartland Institute published and released on Tuesday, lead authors Craig D. Idso, Robert M. Carter, and S. Fred Singer worked with a team of scientists to produce a 1,200-page report that is “comprehensive, objective, and faithful to the scientific method.” They found that even “if the concentration of atmospheric carbon dioxide were to double,” whatever “warming may occur would likely be modest and cause no net harm to the global environment or to human well-being.”

Breitbart News obtained a detailed summary of the report’s key findings. The report rebuts the alarmist reports put out by the United Nations’ IPCC, which the authors claim are in “contradiction of the scientific method” because the IPCC assumes that its implicit hypothesis that “dangerous global warming is resulting, or will result, from human-related greenhouse gas emissions” is correct and “that its only duty is to collect evidence and make plausible arguments in the hypothesis’s favor.

According to the study’s authors, “the hypothesis of human-caused global warming comes up short not merely of ‘full scientific certainty’ but of reasonable certainty or even plausibility. The weight of evidence now leans heavily against the theory.”

Her dissent appears reasonable. The 2004 amendment pertained to industrial emissions of GHG, and the purpose of the amendment was to have such regulations coordinated at the national level. It did not limit consideration of restricting and coordinating land use while considering the potential effects on climate change. Indeed it appears it was explicitly stressed in Parliamentary materials that non-discharge planning (e.g. land use) will continue to include consideration of the effects of climate change.

The majority opinion appears to stretch the interpretation of the 2004 amendment because in their opinion it is not sensible to limit consideration of climate change for a consent involving emissions, but allow consideration of climate change for indirect emissions. This is a fair and reasonable argument and one with which I agree, but appears inconsistent with what the law is and the associated materials as to what was intended by the law.

The majority opinion appears to take quite a bit of liberty with their interpretation.

[84] The limited and partial restriction brought in by the amendments in 2004 was to remove consideration of the effects of greenhouse gases on climate change when controlling or consenting to discharge applications for greenhouse gases alone.88 The removal was because the standards for such discharges were to be set nationally in order to facilitate a coordinated policy response to the government’s commitments to reduce national emissions under the Kyoto Protocol. Retention of ad hoc regional control over those discharging greenhouse gases risked both double regulation and distorting the effect of national regulation.89 In those circumstances, regional authorities were relieved of the obligations to plan for climate change effects from discharges of greenhouse gases into air in New Zealand except in relation to the use of renewable energy, and consent authorities considering consent applications for the discharge of greenhouse gases by emitters were relieved of having to consider the effects of the discharge proposed on climate change except in relation to renewable energy. The amendments had, however, no other impact. They did not relieve decision-makers from the obligation, in assessing resource consents on sustainable management principles and consistently with Part 2 of the Act, to take account of the effects on climate change where necessary to counter the advantages put forward for a proposal requiring a resource consent.

[85] The Parliamentary materials relating to the 2004 Amendment Act stress that land use and non-discharge planning and consent processes will continue, under the provisions of the Act, to allow climate change effects to be considered. Thus, it was explicitly acknowledged in relation to matters such as traffic emissions (non-point discharges which do not require a discharge consent) that local authorities in exercising planning and consent functions could continue to take into account any effects on the environment, including in respect of climate change.90 The fact that climate change consideration was removed only in relation to consents for permits to discharge greenhouse gases into air (as the terms of the amendments made clear) left regional councils and consent authorities able to take into account climate change effects in all other resource management planning and consent processes.

[86] Section 3 of the 2004 Amendment Act, the purpose provision of that Act, was not carried through into the principal Act. It was argued however that it is properly to be treated as part of the Resource Management Act. Reliance was placed on s 23 of the Interpretation Act 1999 which provides that “[a]n amending enactment is part of the enactment that it amends”. Although “enactment” is now interpreted to mean both an entire Act and a provision of it,91 I doubt whether s 3 is properly to be treated as part of the Resource Management Act because it does not itself amend the Act. The provisions that amend are carried into the principal Act. And s 3 is relevant to their interpretation. To the extent that the amending provisions affect the scheme of the Act, s 3 is relevant also in understanding that change in scheme. But it is otherwise spent. Nor does s 3, properly construed in the light of the substantive amendments made by the 2004 Amendment Act, affect the meaning of s 104(1)(a) or the scheme of the Resource Management Act beyond those substantive changes.

Obama and Holder have actually taken a very significant step by choosing not to interfere and override state laws liberalising drug laws, despite the fact that the federal law is quite clear and does in fact override these state laws.

He could do more though I’m not convinced his publically stated sentiments opposing liberalization reflect his true beliefs. Maybe they do, but perhaps it’s also a wiser strategy to let these states have their drug laws play out without the president interfering and making it a national issue that may prevent these laws from succeeding.

Well dime I have to take issue with you here. They are in a situation often not of their own making.
Consider what the State in its wisdom has done to young people. Locked them out of working at a wage rate consistent with their ability and earning potential for an employer.
Kept them at school well beyond the age that they should have been integrated into the workforce.
Sent them to courses that are next to useless and in many cases caused them to rack up loans that they can’t pay back.
And so on.

If you want to stop the behavoir then you need to chnage the Law that has removed young people rights to manage their own lives in a constructive way.

Get rid of the nannies in Govt.
Useless pricks.
