Not credible

Stuff reports:

An atheist teacher who says he was fired for refusing to pray at school events – and also accused a man who is now a MP of assaulting him – will not have his case investigated. …

Roy also added a new allegation to his employment claim, telling ERA member Tania Tetitaha that in 2009 he was assaulted by as he was leaving a First XV after-match function at Kings College.

At the time Ngaro was a school board of trustees member. He entered Parliament in 2011 as an -based list MP.

I said at the time this was reported, I found the allegation preposterous. The ERA did not find Mr Roy very credible. They noted:

In a judgment released today, Tetitaha did not make a finding about the alleged assault but found there were several issues with Roy's statements including:

– Despite initially identifying Pamaka, Roy changed his evidence at the hearing, saying he didn't see her strike him at all.

– He changed the location of his injuries

– There was no corroborating evidence

– The alleged motivation for the assault – Ngaro's displeasure at Roy's refusal to bow his head during grace – did not ring true.

– When Roy took the matter to police, they declined to investigate

– Roy said he wanted to work out the matter by taking a “submissive” role however the court found that didn't fit with his previous behaviour.

The ERA also found a lack of evidence of behaviour.

I think the credibility, or lack of, is pretty clear.
