The following were published by Mick Cleary in The Telegraph on October 3, before the most recent ABs v ‘Boks match. The try scoring average will not have changed, and the points only fractionally so. The Argentine v Aust. Match will not have varied their relative positions in terms of tries, and only fractionally for points scored.

A large area of Auckland is still without power today. Many businesses have lost as least one days trading and many will lose another today. However, I have a solution to the problem of lost income for these businesses.

In the spirit of cooperation and as a way of the rural sector showing faith in their city cousins I suggest that any Auckland business that can show a real loss of income send an account for full reimbursement to Federated Farmers. Once Federated Farmers receive all applications they can then divide the cost equally amongst those farmers who have received “weather aide” from the tax payer in the last ten years.

After all, if it is good enough for Farmers to demand that the tax payer bail them out of tough times then it is good enough for those same tax payers to receive a little in return from the Farming community.

The PM will be announcing his cabinet at 11 am. He said one person from the 2011 intake will be a Minister. That will be Paul Goldsmith who is chair of the Finance and Expenditure Committee. He is very very bright and should get a portfolio that is intellectually hard and complex. I also predict promotion for Nicky Wagner who won Christchurch Central against the odds. That sort of political success makes her due for promotion.

I find it strange Little can claim he has many supporters approaching him to run as leader of the failed socialist party Labour. This is strange when one assesses the votes he received in New Plymouth; if he has not the ability to take a seat, how can he lead a party that is supposedly democratic? It appears the power crazy unionist is no better than any other trough snouting aspirant, devoid of personal humility, and ability in leadership. It is a big difference operating a Parliamentary party, to throwing one’s weight around brainwashed, misled unionists. Little, you are not wanted, neither by New Plymouth, nor New Zealand taxpayers.

This executive not only gets names suppression as far as can be told he has unsupervised accessed to his own children.

Would this happen if he was unemployed or a low wage earner – I doubt it.

Why is this hardly reported in the MSM? I first heard of it on NewstalkZB but have seen nothing on TV, or in the Herald or and Fairfax paper.

This yet another reason why judges should be held to account. The are not gods only political appointed lawyers.

As long as the national electricity distribution network is regarded as a profit generating enterprise rather than a strategic asset that exists to benefit everyone these events will continue to disrupt service.
Rent taking for the profiteers will always takes precedence over ensuring a rigorous maintenance regime exists as long as we persist with the current economic model.

Each family that can afford it, has a fluoresent battery powered lantern in the house, the less affluent citizens use candles in case of a power outage.
Repairs to the electrical power grid have been made, but the energy problems are of such a magnitude that it will take billions of dollars to make all repairs and replacements.

John Key cannot offer Judith Collins a job until the Chisholm report is completed. By then all vacancies will be filled. A vacancy may open up in the future but much will depend on how Judith does her job as an MP. She could chair a select committee of course and time will tell whether she is prepared to accept that in the meantime. Not Justice but Commerce or electoral law.

I’m surprised at some of the nasty comments coming from a few christchurch people about the auckland blackout. Sympathy appears to go only one way for some .

Transpower have been pillaging the countries resources for some time now, under the promise of a reliable network. I look forward to seeing the cause of this – if it is due to inadequate safety or fire prevention and control systems then they’d have to look and see if salary increases ate the budget for such things!

My point has always been this. Every business in NZ must stand on it’s own two feet. That is the way it should be, you either make it or not.

So, why is it any different for farmers?, why should we bail out piss poor business people time and time again?

There will always be others who want to get into the farming game, if certain farmers fail then tough luck, they have no right to be guaranteed survival just because the spend all day looking at a cows arse.

Capitalism is great, what a pity that our Farming community are immune from it.

Wreck, as I understand it, the fire and problems are past the transpower switch point, and the infrastructure is local. It has been pointed out in the past that the Penrose substation is a critical distribution point and that the network was vulnerable to disruption should that substation have problems, but insufficient action has been taken to mitigate this.

And for Yoza’s attention, the problem lies with Vector’s infrastructure. Vector is >75% owned by AECT, the Consumer Trust. So it is majority owned and completely controlled by a domestic consumer trust. Not one of your money grubbing companies after all. So it is user and consumer owned trusts that cause trouble with infrastructure, not companies ! Inconvenient facts !

You are referring to the disgraceful regressive stealth-tax policy introduced by Labour, which ran an abusive monopoly by jacking-up power prices.

@ed….. it will be interesting to see the report on the cause.

I know that back in the 90’s they were talking about the costs of having another substation in the east but the cost was enormous of course.

When you have a single point of failure you do everything to safeguard that point.

The incident analysis report will determine if transpower were taking adequate precautions (hopefully the report is prepared by independent investigators). I’m not judging one way or another at this early stage.

I think you missed the part about this being overwhelming owned by a trust. There is effectively no dividend or profit for that proportion (what is called a “dividend” cheque is actually just a refund for bill payers.)

I agree with the shooter who shot the big black cat. I spent a year in central NSW in Oz back in 1959. A mate and I used to set rabbit traps around various rocky outcrops by rabbit holes and dung heaps. One day I saw this bloody huge cat caught by its front paw in the trap and couldn’t get away – it was starting to gnaw its foot off. I didn’t want to go near it because it was so big and was spitting and trying to attack me, so I got a 4 x 4 fence post a beat the sucker dead – it took me about 12 or so full bodies swings to kill it. It has a stub tail, so for a while I thought it was a lynx cat – it was partly tabby, partly black. I freed it from the trap, and holding it by the stubby tailI had to lift it as high as I could to free the trap. It would have been about 3′ long, and weighted, I reckon about 35 kg.

When my mate, an Aussie saw it ( he was from South Austrlia and had seen these before) and he showed me that the tail had been cut off – probably by a farmer with a shovel trying to kill it or something similar. He said it would probably be a feral cat – several generations from being a domestic cat. They grow bloody huge in the wild.

My “attribution “was a reasonable one given the fact you’ve previously made ( I f my remember correctly ) rather negative comments about the establishment of the Irish Republic 1919-1922 etc.

BTW in what ways was it an” Unconstitutional and sordid” affair and in say in comparison to say the American War of Independence or even the French Revolution.?

The facts are Wars of Independence etc are often not entirely free from loss of life and blood.

I think it might be best to wait for the films release and judge on its actual production values before jumping to conclusions.?

Have to agree with Stephieboy. Global Research CA is part of the Kremlin propaganda network. It’s obvious from the point of view they give, but if you need more convincing, read this: Pro-Russian network behind the anti-Ukrainian defamation campaign. Links the site to the Kremlin and to various far right groups in Europe.

The author of the article you give lives in Moscow and is a political correspondent for Voice of Russia.

Russia, as you may or may not know (or may not care about) is silencing all voices that oppose the current Putin policy of invasion, such as

Exactly why EAD would expect anyone (other than Reid and UT) to take the global research site seriously is bizarre. I mean, how gullible can you be? EAD is always going on about how brainwashed we all are, and here he is gullibly swallowing and parroting Kremlin propaganda.

EAD claims the real battle is between freedom and authority. Yet to parrot the propaganda of a large State engaged in suppressing real freedom suggests that his claim is just a cover for his anti-US and anti-Western ideology, and that his claim to be pro-freedom is just total crap.

I was shocked to learn from a friend on the weekend that a new Food Bill is being brought in here in New Zealand. The new bill will make it a privilege and not a right to grow food.

I find two aspects of this bill alarming. The first is the scope and impact the new bill has, and secondly that it has all happened so quietly. There has been VERY little media coverage, on a bill which promises to jeopardise the future food security of the country.

I read that the bill is being brought in because of the WTO, which of course has the US FDA behind it, and of course that is influenced by big business (Monsanto and other players). It looks like this NZ food bill will pave the way to reduce the plant diversity and small owner operations in New Zealand, for example by way of controlling the legality of seed saving and trading/barter/giving away; all will be potentially illegal. The best website to read about the problems with the new bill is http://nzfoodsecurity.org (I have no connection with this website)

Here are some snippets:

– It turns a human right (to grow food and share it) into a government-authorised privilege that can be summarily revoked.

– It makes it illegal to distribute “food” without authorisation, and it defines “food” in such a way that it includes nutrients, seeds, natural medicines, essential minerals and drinks (including water).

– By controlling seeds, the bill takes the power to grow food away from the public and puts it in the hands of seed companies. That power may be abused.

– Growing food for distribution must be authorised, even for “cottage industries”, and such authorisation can be denied.

– Under the Food Bill, Police acting as Food Safety Officers can raid premises without a warrant, using all equipment they deem necessary – including guns (Clause 265 – 1).

– Members of the private sector can also be Food Safety Officers, as at Clause 243. So Monsanto employees can raid premises – including marae – backed up by armed police.

– The Bill gives Food Safety Officers immunity from criminal and civil prosecution.

– The Government has created this bill to keep in line with its World Trade Organisation obligations under an international scheme called Codex Alimentarius (“Food Book”). So it has to pass this bill in one form or another.

– The bill would undermine the efforts of many people to become more self-sufficient within their local communities.

– Seed banks and seed-sharing networks could be shut down if they could not obtain authorisation. Loss of seed variety would make it more difficult to grow one’s own food.

– Home-grown food and some or all seed could not be bartered on a scale or frequency necessary to feed people in communities where commercially available food has become unaffordable or unavailable (for example due to economic collapse).

– Restrictions on the trade of food and seed would quickly lead to the permanent loss of heirloom strains, as well as a general lowering of plant diversity in agriculture.

– Organic producers of heirloom foods could lose market share to big-money agribusiness outfits, leading to an increase in the consumption of nutrient-poor and GE foods.

However if you look at the Food Act 2014 on MPI’s web page you’ll discover:

“If I want to grow seeds commercially, will I be covered by the Act?

The Act only includes seeds that are eaten, not seeds sold for growing. Seeds sold for propagation are outside the scope of the Act. People can continue to trade and sell seeds for propagation freely.”

I still think that it is in the public interest to know who Rawshark is/was, Hager should be forced to reveal his ‘source’. The ‘public’ as opposed to self interest being so close to Hager’s heart!!!

I hope we all tell the govt to go fn jump over the food growing restrictions! It is all to do with the free trade agreement with the States. The States are having enquiries into food safety and suitability of altered seeds producing plants that their citizens are having trouble digesting.

I value good, safe food and this should not be a prerequisite for the TPP!

Bet a few Kiwis will have something to say – can’t tell Kiwis not to grow or distribute safe food to other Kiwis
