The halos of the dictators of Singapore must be drooping a little. This exemplar of a conservative paradise seems to have a casual approach to the welfare of those who oppose their political masters.

Now I’m more than happy to accept that there may be bias & the accounts of the prisoners have not been witnessed or verified by a panel of High Court judges. I do however, reject the coming assertion that they are a work of fiction written by Marxist, homosexual progs who hate Baby Jesus & want to undermine Western civilisation.

VIENNA June 6, 2013 — Following Singapore’s announcement that it will implement a new policy requiring individual licences for news websites with at least 50,000 unique views a month, IPI urged authorities in the Southeast Asian city-state to re-consider the licensing system and ensure that any laws affecting the media are in full respect of international standards in this area.

On May 28, Singapore’s media regulatory body, The Media Development Authority (MDA), announced that from June 1, “online news sites will require an individual licence from the Media Development Authority (MDA) if they (i) report an average of at least one article per week on Singapore’s news and current affairs over a period of two months, and (ii) are visited by at least 50,000 unique IP addresses from Singapore each month over a period of two months.”

These licenses will also carry a 50,000-Singapore dollar (US $39,500) “performance bond” and an obligation to remove content that the MDA considers to be in violation of their standards within 24 hours. The MDA Internet Code of Practice considers “prohibited content” any “content that undermines racial or religious harmony.”

sadly yours are distinctly lacking.
I have read the autobiography of the dear leader of Singapore
I found his ideas distinctly un democratic.
I can see the use when there was a threat in the early years sadly the control is not necessary except to continue the power of a very few very wealthy individuals.
I also think the fact that over 25% of the population is denied basic human rights distasteful.

I think I’ve made quite an effort to debate the issues Nookin, and raised matters others have not.

However, don’t expect me to be Mother Theresa.

If I’m confronted with what I consider to be WILFUL STUPIDITY – I’ll call it.

I understand some of you more pompous old boyz seem to have a bit of a problem with ‘Women’s Lip’ – but that’s your problem – not mine.

Seems that some of you can dish it – but you can’t take it?

I think Sharon Murdoch’s cartoon is very appropriate.

My understanding of the point she is making is that if NZ joins Australia in some form of ANZUS alliance together with the US, with ‘boots on the ground’ – then the chances are that NZ troops will be shot.

I see the cartoonist depicting both Australian and NZ Prime Ministers as representing their respective countries.

If I did the tweeting thing – I too would retweet this cartoon.

There you go Nookin – happy with that?

She doesn’t really think that, mikenmild. She dislikes him so intensely that she made up the suggestion so that she could argue that he is a traitor. A bit like her argument that Key was looking after Israel’s interests and not ours over the Goff issue. Another fabrication? Seems to be more room to argue that this was a slight on Key’s heritage than anything anyone here has said is sexist.
