Malala Yousafzai was awarded the Nobel Peace prize for fighting for a girls right to an education, a thoroughly admirable stand and worthy of the award. However in Afghanistan and her home counrty of Pakistan those rights continue to be denied by the Taliban and Malala’s life still remains under threat from those she inadvertently seeks to protect. Islamic fundamentalists such as the Taliban are opposed to modernity, to the education of girls.
Those same fundamentalists are engaged in an ideaological war in Syria where any opponents to their doctrines are ruthlessly executed, some publicly, and that in turn has lead to the greatest refugee crisis of a generation. There is little hope that education for girls can deliver the unfortunate souls of the refugee’s from the horror that ISIL perpetuates.
Putin is following the only pragmatic course he knows and that is to fight fire with fire. There is a possibility that the stand off between Russia and Turkey could escalate and if so there is little the west could do to prevent it from happening. Under President Obama the US has lost it’s mantle of the World’s policeman and protector and only a change of President to someone who is more determined could avert what could be a dangerous situation exploding in Syria.

Jim Mora was talking in this case about crime on the trains in Auckland, but perhaps some of the following incidences of “unwillingness to intervene when unruliness breaks out” passed across his mind for a moment….

JOCK ANDERSON casually insulting Australian soldiers, JOHN BISHOP cracking anti-Arab hate “jokes”, MICHAEL BASSETT snarling that Nicky Hager is a Holocaust-denier, MICHELLE BOAG denouncing for several minutes the untermenschen who dare to question the wisdom of politicians, CHRIS TROTTER laughing at the fate of political dissidents, DENISE L’ESTRANGE-CORBET shouting insanely about the poor (“I don’t believe there IS a shortage of jobs in New Zealand!”), CHRIS TROTTER (again) sternly lecturing those foolish enough to doubt the integrity of the Deep South jury that found the killer of Trayvon Martin “not guilty”, ROSEMARY McLEOD contemptuously dismissing Egyptian civilians (“Those people don’t WANT democracy!”) and—nobody who heard this one will ever forget it—Cameron Slater’s personal servant JORDAN WILLIAMS frothing and bawling like a banshee at Josie McNaught [1].

The list goes on, and on, and on, ad absurdum, ad nauseam.

Every one of those outbreaks of unruliness came on The Panel, the RNZ National program hosted by…. Jim Mora. In each of those outbreaks of unruliness, Mora either kept silent, or—perhaps even worse—joined in with the derisive laughing at the victims. He was unwilling—or afraid—to intervene.

Right at the end of the program, the host brought up the German government’s decree that social media platforms must delete hate speech within 24 hours….

JIM MORA: Do you think we can ever get rid of hate?
NICKY PELLEGRINO: [speaking very slowly to convey great seriousness] You can’t get rid of it, but you can refuse to give it a platform.

Indeed.

I did once ask if she was turned down by Salinger at university due to her unhinged attacks on him and made a comment about her being menopausal again due to the irrational crap she posts .
Apparently she is past that stage of life well into old crone status and she did swear that Salinger never did ask her out .
Still leavers her as being mental as any antivax or flat earther loon.
Not really personal or filthy just a little hard for her pride to come to terms with.

To suggest that I was any way involved with a married man (Salinger was an adult Ph.D candidate) when I was at Vic. is a filthy lie.
Numerous people in the Scientific community & wellington know who I am. They know I was at Varsity at the same time as Salinger..
I have children, other family members and they don’t need to see shit like this.
But here it is out on a public blog again.

To be fair, Morrissey, he did say that this had only happened under Obama. Obviously, under earlier presidents, the US had followed a much more moral foreign policy entirely geared to the benefit of the world’s poor and under-trodden.

Leading Climate Scientists Welcome Judge’s Decision on Temperatures

A group of leading New Zealand climate scientists (listed below) welcomed Justice Geoffrey Venning’s ruling to throw out the claim by the New Zealand Climate Science Education Trust (CSET, a small group of climate change “sceptics”) that NIWA had acted fraudulently in putting together its ‘7-station’ temperature series.

Spokesperson for the group, Associate Professor James Renwick of Victoria University said he was pleased that the court had respected and reaffirmed the credibility of the scientific process. It was a strong message to those wanting to challenge widely-agreed scientific findings to do so honestly and openly in scientific forums.

Dr Renwick went on to say “Scientific analysis and discussion is carried out through the peer-reviewed literature. The basic science of climate change (global warming) has been established for well over a century, and almost all scientists active in climate research agree that human activity is causing the climate to change. For a small group of scientists to appeal to a court of law to find otherwise is bizarre.”

New Zealand temperatures have warmed by about 1°C in the last 100 years, associated with loss of glacier ice in the Southern Alps, reduced frost occurrence, and other changes. Globally, evidence of climate change includes sea-level rise, melting glaciers, and rapidly diminishing arctic sea ice.

The court case has helped raise the profile of the claimants. Much more importantly, the case represents a massive waste of New Zealand tax payer’s funds. In defending the claim, NIWA has spent a huge amount (estimated at well over $100,000) and has diverted a number of its scientists away from their research. The country can ill afford to waste such an amount. “This misguided action of a small group adds confusion to a simple issue – the world is warming and future generations of New Zealanders will have to deal with the consequences” Dr Renwick said.

The American’s I have had conversations with describe Obama as being weak, a traitor even. Indeed strongly worded criticism of the most powerful politician in the world.
The US doesn’t always get it right, toppling dictators and thereby creating a power vacuum does set off a destructive chain of events where the poor suffer disproportionally, unable to flee they suffer the consequences of the subsequent civil war as is the case in Syria.

New Zealand will be in for a rude awakening unless Australian-based criminals deported back to this country start receiving meaningful support, a deportee says.

Andre Bishop, a convicted armed robber, has spoken out this month about feeling like a foreigner in his hometown of Invercargill after arriving in the city from Australia’s Christmas Island Detention Centre on November 4.

Speaking on Friday, Bishop said he wanted to get the message out that Kiwi citizens with criminal backgrounds who were deported from Australia to New Zealand were not receiving sufficient support.

My “views” as you put it are supported by every major scientific body on the planet and the leaders of the worlds governments.
I dont need to justify my standpoint as it is as near as fact as you could get with the question of climate change being the most thoroughly examined scientific question by humanity yet undertaken .

Maggys views are that of a few cranks and documented industry funded shrills.

This has been pointed out to her many times over the years yet still she continues to post known lies and bullshit from the same sources.

The crap she insist on posting is a direct attack on the Objectivity Competence and Honesty of worlds scientific community.

He participated in the NASA graduate traineeship from 1962 to 1966 and, at the same time, between 1965 and 1966, he was a visiting student at the Institute of Astrophysics at the University of Kyoto and in the Department of Astronomy at the University of Tokyo. Hansen then began work at the Goddard Institute for Space Studies in 1967.

So that would be just saying … no…. to any meaningful participation in the Apollo Project.

In my business, tourism, I am daily in contact with clients from around the globe and am intrigued and often amazed with the conversations I have with them. My clients all have opinions that span the range of the political spectrum, both left and right and at times the conversations are illuminating.
For instance on the day of the Paris attacks I was hosting a group of europeans from France, Germany, Holland and Switzerland. It was a brilliantly fine day in Auckland and the day was progressing well, my clients were all enjoying the sights and sounds of Auckland.
By 11.00 am I was aware of the Paris attacks and was unsure as to whether to break the news to the group in case it had an adverse effect and ruined their day. I waited till after lunch and on returning to the coach made an announcement informing my clients of the attacks. The reaction was instant pandemonium. The French clients were immediately distressed and wanted to leave the group and return to their hotel to contact family and friends in Paris. I had to quickly find a wi fi zone so that they could check the news and contact family and friends on Skype. The other europeans were all equally concerned and worried that there countries may also be experiencing an attack.
Needless to say the reaction was one of anger from my clients and prompted many of them to express personal views regarding the political situation in their home countries. None of it was positive.
By 2.00 pm the day was effectively over, my clients had all requested to be returned to their hotels to follow the news and to contact home. A dinner planned for the evening was abandoned and my French clients flew out of Auckland the following morning.
In my home suburb of West Auckland we have a diverse community of ethnic groups, people from India and China are my neighbours and my local dairy owner is from Gaza, a quiet and dignified man who often reads his Koran inbetween serving customers. I have yet to engage him in a conversation outside of the banal weather of the day but look forward to hearing his views when the time is right for him.
From experience of being in contact with people from around the world, there is definitely a great deal of concern about the direction humanity is heading, from politics to the enviroment, people are talking and have strong opinions.

The Facts
As we have explained before, the only thing close to a 200,000 figure is an announcement in September by Secretary of State John Kerry that the United States was prepared to boost the number of total refugees accepted from around the world in fiscal 2016, from 70,000 to 85,000. Then, in 2017, Kerry said that 100,000 would be accepted.

That adds up to 185,000 over two years. But this would be the total number of refugees, not the number of refugees from Syria.
By law, the president every fiscal year sets the maximum number of refugees the United States can accept in a year. (Note to Carson: This is not done by executive order; it is a legal requirement.) Over the past decade, the annual limit has been between 70,000 and 80,000, according to the Congressional Research Service. (In fiscal 2013, about 30 percent came from the Middle East, mostly from Iraq.) So, 100,000 from around the world in 2017 would be a big jump, assuming Obama goes through with the pledge to authorize that level. But nothing is set in stone.

As for Syria, Obama has only directed the United States to accept at least 10,000 Syrian refugees in the next year. That’s certainly an increase — fewer than 2,200 Syrians have been admitted to the United States since the uprising began in March 2011, according to State Department officials — but it’s hardly the flood that Trump worries about. (Indeed, it’s only a drop in the bucket of some 4 million Syrian refugees.) In theory, if Obama lifted the ceiling to 100,000 in 2017 and then filled the gap entirely with Syrians, that would be 25,000 more–but that’s still far less then 100,000.

Note: Some readers have pointed to this tweet by Obama as evidence for the “100,000” figure. Note the phrase “and other refugees.” We certainly hope the candidates are not basing their assertions on a tweet…..”

Just saying his bio mentions nothing about being involved with the Apollo programme or any sort of spaceflight, other than working on data sent back from planetary probes.
