‘We are over drunk patients’: Top emergency department doctors

The emergency doctors said more needed to be done at a legislative level. They wanted the closing time of bars changed from 3 and 4am to midnight which had resulted in a 20 per cent reduction in presentations to local emergency departments in New South Wales.

Australian National University Medical School professor Drew Richards said the latest figures were further proof New Zealand needed to look at its drinking culture.

Surfing the websites of the NZ MSM this morning that is not NZ Herald or Stuff, I came across this article:

Writing in the Sunday Times, Tory Minister Sajid Javid said people could not play a “positive role” in public life unless they accepted basic values.

These included democracy, equality and freedom of speech, he said.

Mr Javid’s intervention comes after a report by Dame Louise Casey warned of increasing ethnic segregation.

Mr Javid’s proposals would mean every new recruit in the public sector, including councillors, school governors and civil servants would be expected to commit to the oath, which might have to be read out loud before starting the role.

Dame Louise said some sections of society did not accept British values such as tolerance.

Got it Mr Javid – service in the British Public sector does not actually require one to be British, merely that they can read something out loud (presumably in English although in NZ citizenship tests and hospital forms can be done in one of 14 languages I believe).

Does anyone actually know why the political elite continue to lecture us on “democracy”? They do whatever they want when in power regardless of the voters preferences and we’ve seen just recently in Britain the contempt much of the political has for real democracy when it came to “Brexit” as they try and water down, delay and obfuscate.

Then, why do they preach so much about equality when affirmative action in every single white countries means that the long standing citizens are anything but equal?

As for “tolerating” being a core British values – “Tolerance” just means putting up with something unpleasant. Were the government ever to deliver actual improvements to our lives – like they promise, and like they are supposed to – there wouldn’t be any question of us having to “tolerate” things.

The key question of course being – why do they really have to give us quite so much “diversity” to tolerate? They might as well say that British values are being a bunch of pliable suckers who’ll put up with whatever indignities their lords and masters choose to inflict on them.

And finally, as for freedom of speech – these b*st*rd will “tolerate” anything – except for anyone who is foolish enough to step outside the Ingsoc/Newspeak narrative, in which case Room 101 awaits for you – in Germany the police will conduct dawn raids if you criticise on Social Media the deliberate destruction of your country:

    I know you agree a lot with what I say but disagree on what we believe the root cause is and how our current state of madness can best be resolved but for the moment, let’s leave that discussion aside
    
    I understand where you’re coming from, but your “values based” position ignores some basic home truths. Human beings are highly tribal people. We have evolved over tens of thousands of years in highly homogeneous societies and no amount of anti-hate speech law, soaring rhetoric will change that fact.
    
    It would be wonderful if we could do a “values” test on everyone that came here but it not only is it not practical and nearly impossible to assess, but values are fleeting and change with the time. I mean who gets to decide, enforce & test “values” newcomers must have?
    
    There is nothing wrong with immigration per se, but the speed and scale at which it is being “enforced” on European countries and the quality of immigrants means what could be a good thing, is turning into an unmitigated disaster all but the most blind can see.
    
    People are tribal, and the thing the multikulti fanatics won’t accept is that there is nothing wrong with that.
    
    Just as there is often a black sheep in every family, there are plenty of *ssh*l*s descended from European stock, but at least they’re our *ssh*l*s.

      Appreciate your intelligent and considered discussion of these questions, EAD.
      
      I believe that the old tribal human condition can be systematically eradicated within about 3 generations given good clear enlightenment, so you get someone like Sir Apirana Ngata as good a culture warrior as anyone. But (European) intellectual Quislings can tip any identity group back into tribalism again within about 3 generations, hence the current Maori “leadership”, which would have Sir Apirana spinning in his grave.
      
      On the issue of “vetting immigrants”, I say “no need”, other than educational / economic grounds. The important thing is the conditions locally – strong cultural self-belief and no options to “assimilating”, for immigrants. Law-breaking = swift deportation.
      
      We only have a problem with ratbags wanting to come in their droves in the first place, because they will be “tolerated” and more, by domestic intellectual Quislings and the institutions they have hijacked, and in fact ratbag, militant immigrants are positively enabled as WMD’s against their host culture. This is where the problem is, not in the skin colour of immigrants per se.
      
      I don’t want cringing white lefties from the US or UK coming here in their droves because they are upset about Trump or Farage; they would be part of the problem regardless of their “right” skin colour. I want that kind of people to NOT want to come here; if NZ was as culturally confident as I wished, both those people and the ratbag militant immigrants of colour, would not bother. But people of colour wanting out of a culture they identify as retrograde, and wanting in on ours, are welcome.

      My first NZ passport, issued in 1972, identified me as a British Subject, whatever that means.
      I’m a New Zealander and although my mother is English I’m not entitled to one of their passports, unless the rules have changed.
      British is not a race or ethnicity whereas Chinese is. So you’re talking about two different things.
      (I don’t know what ethnicities I am, as it happens, but there’s thousands I think I can rule out.)

        MCos, you should be able to get a UK passport through your mother. I’m pretty much in the same boat as you; when I applied in 1974 my British mother didn’t count. I think the rules were changed in the early 1980s in line with other legislation relating to equality of the sexes, but while I could have applied for a UK passport I simply haven’t bothered. My NZ one has served me well over the years and I see no need to change.

      You are a national if you speak the national language, support and participate in the national culture and customs, hold a national passport, and would have no problems with your children marrying another citizen of that nation.

        The very idea of the nation-state, tends to be contrary to tribalisms. There are very few one-tribe nations. Nation-states by definition, have required the suspension of tribalism on the part of their inhabitants.
        
        Even tribalisms can cut across racial grounds. You can have a one-race “land” inhabited by dozens of warring tribes and it will not be a nation-state. Race has always been irrelevant to the possibility of nation-state status. It is the “national idea” that defines a nation, not “the race that started it”. Even in old history, there are empires that were racially inclusive in that the vast majority of subjects below the royalty or whatever, had no differences in their rights, regardless of their race. The Roman Empire was like this, and the Turkish Empire was too at times.
        
        Of course no-one had the rights of people in a modern liberal democracy; but that itself is a nation-state idee fix also not associated with race.

    I subscribe to the NBR but Stuff is my primary NZ MSM fake news source these days although Radio NZ has its merits.
    
    The reason I don’t spend touch time at the Herald is because when you copy their links, their is no description of the article in the header. If my primary reason for subjecting myself to MSM bile is to critique it, then if the subject is quickly identifiable in the header, more people are likely to read it.

I read that one from a research drinkers point of view. The country desperately needs specific detox units. A lot of those poor suckers will have no idea that they are distressed. They are probably in alcohol withdrawal which is a specialized medical field and can be life threatening. That old guy is probably suffering the DT’s.

    Willow-Jean Prime was simply a cypher who put in no effort.
    
    Labour supporters were actively encouraged to vote for Winston First, and the Party’s share of the vote collapsed from 25.9% to 4.7%.
    
    If it had been a sporting contest, it would have been annulled for match-fixing.
    
    At least National are honest about not contesting.

        I’m inclined to agree and it centres around one issue – everything else is a manifestation or symptom of the incompatibility. It is not so much the separation of church/synangogue and state, but more that neither Christianity nor Judaism require/demand subjugation of the state to a theocracy or overtly religious system of government. In a sense Zionism (a secular late 19th philosophy) and even something as long-lasting as Christendom were aberrations, or at least options. But the early church wanted nothing from Caesar than religious tolerance, and even then was not a threat to his regime when persecuted. Similarly. as per the Hebrew canon in response to the destruction of the first Jerusalem temple and resulting exile (the books of Jeremiah, Ezekiel and Daniel in particular), Judaism, despite the requirements of the Torah, can function without a temple and Israeli state, and also in Diaspora – and wait for the coming age for a perfect government.
        
        However, Islam demands the unity of mosque and state in this age.

We have been through this before stephieboy – 16,794 comments and still a fierce determination not to learn anything!?
For a start the President-elect is going to bomb the hell out of Isis and defeat them. Once Isis are defeated and normal government is restored and the situation in Syria and Iraq is stabilised then there can be a determination by Western governments about what to do with the refugees in their country?
One thing they could do when the situation is stabilised is send them all back. They are refugees from war after all. Once the war is over then send them back to their own country.
That’s where they belong. Muslim refugees just do not seem to be happy in western countries so they are better back in their own country.
Probably that’s what we could do with those ones in Dunedin as well once the situation in Syria and Iraq is stabilised.

    – that’s the “secret” part. He’s not going to announce next Tuesday we will bomb the hell out of Isis. It’s called the Art of surprise. You don’t tell the enemy what you going to do.
    – I don’t suppose he will overthrow the current Iraqi government. He will probably do a deal with them to overthrow Isis probably in exchange for oil.
    – No he won’t demand European countries deport their refugees. The European countries themselves will be able to do so because that will be safe for the refugees back in their own country.
    – I’m not sure about Dunedin. From a geopolitical point of view I suspect the next president of the United States will have a lot more to focus on than the good folk of Dunedin. Of course if there is a terrorist attack in Dunedin then all bets are off.

    Happy to comment disaster area.
    – Unfortunately normal government in the Middle East right now, with the exception of Israel, is a dictator/strongman who will run the country. If they ever got rid of Islam and became Christian then things might change. But under Islam and their conception of God a dictator/strongman is the best one can expect right now.
    – A timescale is difficult to predict precisely but I would suggest that Isis will be defeated in 2017. It’s what, 30,000 guys? I would imagine the West could take them with 2 well-equipped army divisions and air support.
    But don’t forget the situation in Iraq was stable following the surge and when Obama came into office. It was him that destabilised the region by prematurely withdrawing the residual American troops and therefore fatally weakening the Iraqi situation and allowing a vacuum to develop into which stepped Isis.
    So the situation was stable when Obama came into office and so could be stable again. We just need a different president than the feckless incumbent who has been wrong about every following policy issue he has touched.
    
    I feel good about Trump’s foreign policy. Scott predicts Isis will be just a memory by this time next year.

      Iran wants a corridor to the Mediterranean – through Iraq, Syria, Jordan.
      From which it will attack Israel via Lebanon as currenntly.
      The fractured Muslims will then go further in conjunction with Turkey and takeover the North African coast which is really Muslim anyway.

      I would also think that sending two entire Divisions into that area would be a) prohibitively expensive and b) political suicide.
      
      There is no mainstream appetite amongst the population in the US for sending troops back over to Iraq/Syria and to do so would mean admitting that they were wrong to leave in the first place.
      
      Let’s face it, the whole of the UK/UK approach to Iraq, Libya and Syria has been a complete shambles from Day 1.

Mikey – for a 26,000 comments man you are surprisingly ill informed. Trump stated repeatedly in his campaign rallies that he would “bomb the hell out of Isis”.
For what it’s worth I think that a Secretary of defence with the title “mad dog Mattis” could probably be relied upon the bomb the hell out of the enemy.
Regarding Trump keeping things a secret that was a reference to not telegraphing the specific battle plan to the media and therefore to the enemy before war commences. I think it was Winston Churchill who remarked about the need for secrecy and stealth regarding your battle plan. It was him that said “the truth is so precious that it needs to be wrapped in layers of deception and lies”.
But anyway as one of Kiwi blogs more reliable pundits I can assure you that if Trump says he will bomb the hell out of Isis then Isis will be bombed.

    What I would say is that the left have been wrong about Trump for the best part of 2 years. “Trump’s not gonna win the primary”, he wins the primary but then “Trump’s not gonna win the general”, he wins the general election.
    
    Now it’s “Trump’s not going to follow through on his campaign promises”. If Trump says he is going to bomb the hell out of Isis then Isis will be bombed. Particularly when you have a secretary of defence called “mad dog”.
    
    I feel pretty confident that Isis will be destroyed in 2017.
    
    Also don’t worry yourself about Hillary Clinton. There will be a new attorney general in 2017 and that person will make the determination about prosecuting Hillary or not. Personally I think she should face criminal charges for her handling of classified information on her private email server.
    
    Also there probably still is an ongoing investigation into the Clinton foundation and its ties with foreign governments and the suggestion of “pay for play”. The new attorney general is probably not going to be as lenient as the current attorney general in not pursuing criminal charges against Hillary Clinton.

Calculations show exactly why the U.S has the electoral college. Yes, Hillary won the so-called ‘popular vote’, but it turns out that the only reason she did is because of California.

Democrats who are having trouble getting out of the first stage of grief — denial — aren’t being helped by the fact that, now that all the votes are counted, Hillary Clinton’s lead in the popular vote has topped 2.8 million, giving her a 48% share of the vote compared with Trumps 46%.

To those unschooled in how the United States selects presidents, this seems totally unfair. But look more closely at the numbers and you see that Clinton’s advantage all but disappears.

As we noted in this space earlier, while Clinton’s overall margin looks large and impressive, it is due to Clinton’s huge margin of victory in one state — California — where she got a whopping 4.3 million more votes than Trump.

California is the only state, in fact, where Clinton’s margin of victory was bigger than President Obama’s in 2012 — 61.5% vs. Obama’s 60%.

But California is the exception that proves the true genius of the Electoral College — which was designed to prevent regional candidates from dominating national elections.

If you take California out of the popular vote equation, then Trump wins the rest of the country by 1.4 million votes. And if California voted like every other Democratic state — where Clinton averaged 53.5% wins — Clinton and Trump end up in a virtual popular vote tie.

Look you guys are been wrong about Trump for 2 years.
But here is my prediction – Trump will build a wall, in his own words it’s called “construction” and he’s very good at that.
Lots of illegal alien criminals will be incarcerated and/or deported.
Once the border is secured then a determination will be made as to what to do with the rest of the illegal aliens residing in the United States.
He is already draining the swamp. He has brought in some top guys from the military and from business in key cabinet roles.
I am of the opinion that Hillary will face criminal charges in 2017. There are many in Congress who feel deeply about what Hillary has done and as I say a new attorney general will not be as lenient as the current attorney general.

So let’s wait and see. But don’t embarrass yourself by making further negative comments about Trump when you have been wrong for 2 years. Otherwise you might get a guest spot on CNN where they appear to have learned nothing.

Judith Collins is an experienced politician, I think it goes without saying, so what should we read into the fact that she chose to wear a yellow jacket for that photo? Am I, as an ACT voter, getting all excited for no reason?

        From the Immigration New Zealand website:
        
        New Zealand accepts and provides full support for around 750 refugees each year. When refugees and asylum seekers arrive in New Zealand, we support them to settle in. We provide health care, education, language classes and support to find paying work.
        
        Manolo asked Stephieboy if he thinks we should “take more Muslim refugees”. Stephieboy said yes – “500 from Aleppo”. I interpreted Stephieboy’s comment as meaning that he thinks we should accept an overall greater number of refugees each year and, in doing so, we should specifically accept refugees from Aleppo.         The government approved a very modest increase to the refugee quota this year.

        According the the UNHCR global trends report for 2015, in refugees settled per head of population in the receiving country, New Zealand ranked 8th. It was 4th in refugees received per the receiving nation’s GDP per capita.

  Most likely a revenge attack by the cats – they’ll gang up on dangerous dogs that have threatened them or their kittens. There’s a story to that effect in the comments and I’d read another one like it where a cat, who had almost been killed by a dog attacked the dog from jumping on it’s back from a roof while the owner was walking it.
  
  Here’s the story from the comments:
  
  A similar thing happened when i was a kid, about 4 stray dogs entered our backyard (no fence), i knew there were kittens playing around so i rushed out with a stick and some stones to shoo them off but obviously i was not successful, they were not leaving and charging towards the kittens who let out a weird scream, nek minnit, 5 of my elder cats came out of nowhere and literally attacked the dogs, one climbed on one of the dogs and bit him on the next, the rest targeted the eyes, the dogs screamed like little girls and ran off..cats are territorial but they will defend their young.
  
  I note the dog was a husky – they tend to kill and even cats. It probably deserved it.

      If you look closely you may find a deserted “Homestead Chicken” building on what was once prime Eketahuna real estate:
      
      Homestead Chicken was a New Zealand-owned fast food chain which operated in the 1970s and 1980s. It was a local rival to the American franchise Kentucky Fried Chicken. The business environment was very competitive and local chains like Homestead found the going tough – it went into receivership in 1989 and all the outlets closed.
      
      Nasska can probably fill us in on what the deserted building is used for now. I seem to recall they were thinking about turning it into a haunted house tourism attraction at one stage, but that was seen as a bit too “up-market” for the Eketahuna area. Hopefully the building’s toilets haven’t become a monthly gathering point for antisocial activities, or we’ll need to send a suitably qualified team of Kiwiblog experts to investigate!

Labour’s sport and recreation spokesman is boycotting all Lion Breweries products for a year over its decision to hire drugs cheat Lance Armstrong.

The cyclist is thought to have flown out of Auckland last night, after coming to New Zealand to take part in a commercial for the company.

The decision to hire Armstrong has so incensed Mallard that the MP has taken an early New Year’s resolution – starting immediately – to not buy any Lion Breweries products for a year.

Whoops, the cat just tried to sneak up on a bird and the blackbird alarm started up again! It’s been swooping her for the last few days because it’s chick is out foraging, causing her to run and hide in the bushes rather than lounge around in the garden as if she owns it.

At least she’s not getting dived and pooped on by seagulls, though!

Recovering from days without enough sleep courtesy of teenagers who don’t want to go to bed early and pile diggers who have been showing up early in the morning creating mini-earthquakes, that surprisingly I was able to nap through yesterday afternoon while trying to recover from a migraine, probably caused by them in the first place. Complete assholes who told my neighbour to wake up early and get a life when she complained to them.

Not really ready for Christmas this year.

      More like a five star hotel Nostra. The attraction for the boys was that they could use their moto-cross bikes whereas the girls were happy with a couple of old horses their mothers had owned. We also had a reasonable sized pool which was seldom unused in summer.
      
      The problem was getting them to go home! 🙂

        They knew where the bandaids were kept & there were a few common sense rules which ignoring could result in no bikes or horses for a few days. Mum would start wittering like a stoned starling about risks from time to time but mercifully all eight grandkids have survived their experiences. 🙂

Awww C-mon, I was ready for Christmas last year, totally ready. We went to Midnight Mass, got to sleep at 3am, was wanting to wake up about 12 noon to prepare for the day – and wham, on Christmas Day, I was kiboshed.

The neighbour got up really early and swept his paths and rattled his rubbish bins. Four hours of sleep was wiped out just like that. Then my monthly women’s business arrived with gusto and lots of pain after 12, had me out of action till three while the meds kicked in …

I kinda recovered to do my Christmas dinner thing as planned with inlaws who turned up with too many leftovers from my sister in law’s lunch. I think I killed the fish by microwaving it to heat it up much to the chagrin of my MIL, while trying to get everything else ready that I was really late for. It turned out, but it was not what I’d been planning for.

The officer was clearly terrified. The rancher threw down his tools, ran to the fence and yelled at the top of his lungs….. “Your badge, show him your BADGE!!”

Christina Grimmie’s Family Files Wrongful Death Lawsuit Against Concert Promoter, Venue

Christina Grimmie’s family has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the concert promoter and venue where the former “The Voice” contestant was murdered in June. The lawsuit … claims “wrongful death and negligent infliction of emotional distress [which] arises from the shooting and tragic death of Christina Grimmie.”

The suit claims that the defendants “failed to take adequate security measures to ensure the safety of the performers and the attendees at the concert venue” the night of the attack. “By only doing superficial bag checks with no body pat downs or the use of metal detectors to safeguard against concertgoers bringing weapons into the theater, Christina’s assailant was permitted to enter The Plaza Live Theater facility with two 9mm Glock handguns, two full magazines and a large hunting knife,” the complaint reads.

I understand that Christina Grimmie’s family will be grieving, but this isn’t the answer. Their lawsuit implies that we should have extensive bag checks, full body pat downs, and metal detectors for public events. I can’t see how that’s feasible for public events that are attended by thousands.

    This year I will have caught, killed, gutted, singed, and cooked the Christmas pig .
    Xmas dinner by Griff .
    Every detail down to cutting the fire wood and hand turning the spit will be my responsibility.
    The upside is we have vegetarian guests.
