    There will be a lot of boats out there today, more than yesterday. I counted more than 45 boats east of The Noises. Ramp parking is a problem. Westhaven was so full many had to park illegally, Auckland Transport could have had a field day, but seemed to not be there. The germs will be there today.

Congratulations Roger Federer – a real champion..

Was there anyone else watching who thought the TV commentators were biased towards Nadal or was it just my instincts given I was hoping for a Federer win?

    I think the crowds have been hopelessly in love with Roger Federer for some years. It always annoys me that my favourite guy Novak Djokovic gets no love from the crowds whether he is playing Andy Murray or Roger Federer.
    And while I am here on the women’s side what’s with the William sisters final? None of the 20 to 25-year-old women could beat them? That’s just sad.
    My favourite women’s players are Victoria Azarenka and Maria Sharapova. But one has just had a baby and one is still banned. Very sad }:

  It was a magnificent win by Federer, especially after going a service break down in the fifth and deciding set. Fair dues to Nadal as well who was both magnificent and magnanimous in defeat.
  
  Federer is undoubtably the best tennis player of my lifetime, and probably the best ever. We are unlikely to ever see another Federer vs Nadal Grand Slam final, so it was a wonderful match for that reason alone.

    The rival for Federer in terms of winning Slams was probably Rod Laver.
    
    His 11 is understated as he turned pro 1963 (he had won 6 by then, including the 4 in one year 1962), and the Open era including professionals did not begin till 1968 (he won 5 more slams, including all 4 again in 1969). He won 8 professional slam events 1963-1967 (only 3 each year).
    
    But this win 5 years after his last, means his longevity as a Slam winner is more unique.

  I was pleased to see Federer win. Not bad for an old bugger. Shows just how good Serena is too, at about the same age. Then again she doesn’t always display the good grace that Roger does, or her sister Venus.
  I thought the commentators were very good, unlike the fawning biased sycophants who cover the cricket over there (or some of the Sky rugby guys here)

The Grammy winner, from Auckland’s North Shore, took to Twitter to warn the “old men in power” that there’s a storm coming, “the likes of which they cannot comprehend”.

The future of the Wellington Sevens could be known within the next month, after a weekend of disappointment at Westpac Stadium.

The host team, and defending champions, were beaten into sixth place on Sunday, as only about 10,000 people each day turned up for what used to be Wellington’s biggest party.

A well behaved Sevens crowd has pleased police, with just two arrests made from a crowd of about 18,000.

  My advice is for the next two years of the Wellington 7’s (awarded fro three years last year)
  
  2018 Hamilton on Auckland Anniversary weekend.
  2019 Christchurch or venue nearby (unfortunately too early for the scarfies in Dunedin).
  
  If both venues work better than Wellington include them in the next three year rotation – allow other venues to contest for Wellington’s spot Nelson (anniversary weekend also), Napier etc.

I took the opportunity to read the Waiting Tribunal claim filed by the Prez of the Hastings chapter of the Mongrel Mob, which asserts that racism prevents proper funding of his gang’s efforts to get kids off P.

To establish that there is prejudice against his gang he includes about five pages of quotes from this blog and that of the esteemed Mr Oil. The quotes were all about the fact that his gang is an organised criminal enterprise. He didn’t produce any evidence to show that the beliefs held about his gang’s criminality were not true, just that they existed.

I don’t believe that to be a particularly good evidential basis for alleging institutional racial discrimination against Maori on health issues, but there you have it, folks.

You people are used as proof that because the Mongrel Mob are a bunch of criminals who bear a fair share of the responsibility for the P “epidemic”, and you believe that to be true, New Zealand discriminates against Maori on health issues.

Small wonder that these problems which undoubtedly plague Maori more than the rest (needless to say, nothing about P use among Chinese, for example, within the statistics, just “us and them”) are not given the public credence they deserve.

They hand you, I swear, a new mobile phone SIM card when you arrive at Ben Gurion airport, and there will be a taxi waiting to take you to your new home. There is a public holiday in celebration of immigrants.
  
  All it takes is some form-filling, a £50 fee, passport photos, a birth certificate and evidence that I’m Jewish. Membership of a synagogue will do, but I don’t have that. There was some rabbinical detective work: the names on my birth certificate were cross-matched to the names on my parents’ ketubah, their marriage contract. The rabbi writes a short letter and you have the proof. At the first meeting my immigration officer, Moran, asked if I’m Messianic. I am not. It would be an immovable obstacle if I were, it turns out. The whole business can be done in six weeks, if you’re more prepared and organised than I am.

OK, Calling Trump Supporters, again.

The US National Security Council is the principal forum used by the President of the United States for consideration of national security and foreign policy matters with senior national security advisors and Cabinet officials and is part of the Executive Office of the President of the United States.

A very important forum where as much information should be imparted as possible, one would think.

The Director of National Intelligence and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs have been statutory members. A wise inclusion given the gravitas of the subject matter.

Trump has removed both these roles from the NSC, as they are now only required to attend when relevant to their jobs.

Personally, I couldn’t think of 2 more relevant roles that should be attending all NSC meetings. In matters of National Security, how much of an idiot would you have to be to not have the head of your military forces and head of your intelligence services at each meeting?

These meeting may bring up information that becomes instantly relevant. These 2 individuals may have information that becomes relevant to an item being discussed where the connection is not apparent.

And if this was not bad enough, he has made a new permanent appointment to the NSC.

Steve Bannon.

Steve Fucking Bannon.

What the actual fuck is going on here?

Now Steve Bannon was in the military. For 7 years. He was a junior naval officer. This in no way qualifies him for the role. I should know as I was also a junior officer for a short time, and to replace the Chair of the joint chiefs with a far right thinking person with only 7 years experience would be like replacing a experienced cardio vascular specialist surgeon with 30 years experience with a 4th year resident doctor.

Who now advises Trump of the potential impact of NSC decisions with regard to the Intelligence and defence communities?

This is a fantastically short sighted decision by a man who on a day to day basis, keeps illustrating how ill suited he is for the role he finds himself in. Can those of you who support Trump enlighten me as to the logic of your position? Bush would not have done this, Reagan would not have done this.

  There was supreme irony in Kelly-Anne Conway’s defence of the choice of countries to be put on the blacklist; she said that we had to trust Trump as he had access to intelligence we don’t.   I, like many people I know, am ambivalent abut Trump in that I share many of his views about the need to shake up the PC quagmire that is killing the US, but I also recognise that he is a repulsive and probably mad human being, so there’s a bit of a conundrum there (to put it mildly).

  At some point in the next few years there will be a terrorist attack in the US. Sadly it’s almost inevitable.
  
  Questions will be asked. Mr Trump, how many security briefings have you taken in the last 12 months? Mr Trump, were you able to receive advice from the DNI and JCOS on threats to America? Mr Trump, you are failing in your duties to keep America safe.
  
  People think the obvious path to impeachment is Trump’s business conflicts of interest. But given they are clearly egregious but the Republicans haven’t called foul on them already it’s not a high-likelihood channel to swing enough Republicans over to support impeachment.
  
  But Republicans will be very worried about being tarred by the brush of not taking the country’s security seriously. If Trump drops the ball on national security that is where the Republicans will see the opportunity to roll him.

      Why then should he need to be doing their job or making the decisions they should make for those CEO’s.
      
      We have sorted most of this for our Govt. departments so why wouldn’t he.

Silly bugger must have slept in as rather than an in depth 5 mt interview that would have allowed him to expand on the MOU with the greens he stuttered and stammered his way through a brief 1 mt prepared speech that revealed nothing new.

New Zealand’s exports to the world have fallen for the second year in a row, led by a drop in the two largest commodities.

Figures from Statistics New Zealand showed the value of all export goods was $48.4 billion in 2016, down $544 million on 2015 and $1.6b lower than in 2014.

The fall was led by substantial falls in beef (down $481m) and lamb (down $415m), with the overall meat and edible offal group recording a 13 per cent drop in exports.

“The large fall in meat exports for 2016 reflects a decline from the record meat season in 2015 for both value and quantity,” international statistics senior manager Nicola Growden said.

Green Party list MP Denise Roche is facing a challenge for the Auckland Central selection from political newcomer Chloe Swarbrick.

The party’s nominations for the Auckland Central seat closed yesterday and Swarbrick and Roche are the only candidates to put their names forward. The Greens will select a candidate on February 13.

Swarbrick, who runs a digital marketing business, joined the Greens after placing third in the Auckland Mayoral contest. She came from nowhere to claim nearly 30,000 votes after running a campaign based on a strong social media presence.

  AND, do Eden Park’s short boundaries guarantee big scores?
  If you can hit lots of sixes, probably. But 60 metre boundaries compared with 50 means that the fielders each have to cover 44% more area, so it all balances out.

News coverage of the Trump issue on radio today has been appalling but tonight, coverage of the water contamination court proceedings today explained the contamination may have come from sheep shit.
The news item concluded with what appeared to be a snide attack.

– The deadly shooting unfolded following a weekend which has seen President Donald Trump’s divisive and controversial ‘Muslim immigration ban’ spark widespread protests across America.

– It sparked Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to remark that his country remains open to all immigration.

– He tweeted: ‘To those fleeing persecution, terror & war, Canadians will welcome you, regardless of your faith. Diversity is our strength.’ (on what basis Justin? Saying something doesn’t make it so. Why do you feel the need to say this ridiculous mantra after yet another event that reinforces that diversity is actually a weakness )
