Coincidentally last night on 60 Minutes they ran a story on Bunny Walters nephew Kingi, former felon who now rides Harley Davidsons for an income lol.

Plus WP wants binding referendum on finally ditching the Maori seats and reducing MPs to 100. Plus he wants to repeal the anti smacking law, opposed by the vast majority of NZers

Don’t know how he’ll go about any of the above but boy oh boy, could be a storm coming National. I hope Bulwark Bill does it for you! Sweet economy, shame about the social wreckage.

    National has failed to act on a number of issues where the public has expressed a strong reference, just because they felt confident Labour wouldn’t either. If they make it past this election they are going to have to review that strategy.
    
    Tougher sentences, making prisons less comfortable, reducing the size of Parliament, changing the anti-smacking law, and getting rid of the Maori seats should all be on the table. They don’t cost anything and will be a vulnerability for National until addressed.

His response to every single proposal on KB to stop or limit Islamic immigration is to claim it can’t and shouldn’t be done, and that the poor Muslims are the victims of irrational hatred like the Irish once were.       In previous NZ First coalitions mass immigration was not a major issue for much of the public. It is this election, as it is throughout the Western world. When even the msm is saying we need a debate and that having a debate is not racist, and when even Labour and the Green parties are proposing cuts to immigration, it is obvious that there is a groundswell of support for change. This gives Winston a mandate that he simply did not have before, certainly not to the same degree. And Winston is getting to that time in his life when leaving a legacy will be on his mind. Given that opposition to mass immigration, multiculturalism, and Maori separatism have all been his central message from the start, and given the public support for change to our current immigration levels, there is every reason to believe that he will push for change, and push hard, in any coalition discussions.
      
      Make no mistake, Kimbo’s dismissal of WP and his supporters on KB has nothing to do with WP’s supposed record, and everything to do with his desperate clinging to the crumbling liberal globalist order.

        I did forget these. ‘Cos I’m sure they will just partner with National to remove Maori ‘privileges’. With all the H&S bull, that little slip that could have been cleared in a few hours has become a saga that will last for months.
No wonder none of our slips around the country get cleared.

  There would be more to it than that. At the site of another slip the gas people had dug holes and ‘squeezed’ a 250mm yellow gas main either side of the slip. I thought that was overkill until I realised that a gas meter would have been buried under the rubble and the gas main to a house ruptured and spewing out gas necessitating a Fire Service presence. Now the slip is cleared no doubt the gas people will today isolate the branch to the house and remove the big clamps.
  Far rather to take a bit longer and ensure no one is killed. The Kaikoura Coast road and railway could probably be re-opened sooner if a bit less care was taken. While fatalities on works projects were the norm in the 1800’s and early 1900’s, they are unacceptable today.
  There were some deaths when the Manapouri tailrace tunnel to Doubtful Sound was dug in the 1960’s. When a parallel tunnel was dug several years ago there were no fatalities – this despite there being a more ‘commercial’ attitude to works nowadays.

      I was not thinking straight – it was around 100mm diameter – certainly greater than 25mm. However hydraulically operated PE pipe shutoff presses are available for pipes of up to 600mm. The pipe is usable once the press is removed but I understand that the pipe must not be squeezed at the same spot in the future.

    It is the Consolidated Fund that suffers, not the Police budget. While the Treasury may budget for an anticipated flow of cash from traffic infringements and court fines, it cannot directly influence this flow by say getting the Courts Minister to pressure judges to increase average fines. Not can it realistically pressure the Police to install more speed cameras to boost revenue – this would lead to even more claims that speed cameras are there for revenue purposes.

New Zealand First leader Winston Peters has warned the country is on the verge of an economic and social nightmare because of government neglect.

Mr Peters used his election convention speech in Auckland this afternoon to attack the government’s record on housing, immigration and foreign ownership.

Mr Peters told more than 500 party members and supporters that if elected, New Zealand First would “drastically reduce” immigration from 70,000 a year to 10,000 – a level that he said was sensible and sustainable.

Mr Peters also said that if New Zealand First was part of the next government, he would let the public to decide whether to abolish Māori seats and cut the number of MPs in Parliament to 100.

He said Māori seats send a terrible message and vowed to hold a mid-term binding referendum on the two matters.

“The fact is that Māori don’t need to be told that they’re not good enough to be equal, or that somehow they should be handicapped or somehow they should be pigeon-holed,” Mr Peters said.

“When did you ever hear Buck Shelford say don’t tackle me too hard I’m a Māori, or all those women playing in our netball team or any other team, when have you ever heard them say don’t hit me too hard I’m a Māori?

“Māori don’t need the Māori seats – they don’t need any more tokenism.”

Think what you want of Mr Peters, but he’s the only one with the guts to say what needs to be said.

  He most likely want to do lots of things that you do not like. Seems the ‘support’ for Winston is because it is perceived that a Labour/ Green/ Winston government will not happen and Winston will get concessions from National that some people want, but not be able to rule the roost completely. Whether there is a formal coalition with National or Winston providing support case by case, it is likely to fall apart before the 2020 election. It will be like a game of ‘chicken’ – the parties will be on continual collision course but there will only be a collision if one party perceives the voters will blame the other party for it.
  Interesting that Whaleoil seems to have pretty well thrown its support behind Winston and emphasizing its hatred of Bill English (which it has had since 2002 or so), this being on the premise that a Labour/ Green/ Winston coalition will not happen.

  Why bother with a referendum?
  There has already been a Commission or something with a report recommending the abolution of the Maori seats – there is no need for them in an MMP system.
  So just write the policy and do away with them.
  Referendum is just a waste of time/money – and is ego driven.
  If Winston wants to lead then lead……thats what we elect them for.

I would like to know how Winston can get his bottom line on the Maori Seats without National backing it as Labour will commit Political Suicide to even think about it. Winston the way he is talking believes he will be the largest Party in Parliament after the Election so whatever he is taking or drinking he should keep doing it as that is the only result he will have after awaking from his self inflicted dream.

  Interesting ahead of the election as both Nat and Lab will be asked publiclly to rule out doing away with the racist seats and this will make Winnie double down on his promise to get rid of them.
  We are then left with Winnie saying its a bottom line and both big players will have said emphatically NO to it (as they both want the Maori vote)

  Winston may have a point that the Maori eletorate seats aren’t needed and Don Brash may have a point too (I heard Don Brash and Marama Fox being interviewed about this on Morning Report), in fact Marama Fox also has a point that they are needed!

  Yes, when Labour Maori MP’s hold the seats I do agree with Peters and Brash what good comes of that and the answer seems to be not much, why because Labour Maori MP’s toe the Labour Party line and are pretty much silent (so much so I would suggest most NZers don’t know who the current Labour Maori seat MP’s are – I certainly don’t)! So that’s Labour for you – control and suppress!
  
  But yes, whether we like the Maori Party or not, the fact is they provide visible gains for Maori (whether one likes that or not is a moot point – my point being they make gains). More so that Labour. Now also think about it like this, the National Party is “evidence based”, so if National are giving money to the Maori Party for their policies then National must be convinced they are actually doing some good for the Maori community and improving outcomes etc.
  
  As for Winston, although he talks some sense it isn’t as simplistic as he makes out (and lets not forget NZF have held the Maori seats before – so there is again with Winnie double standards at play). Perhaps what Winston should be advocating for is that the Labour Party shouldn’t be contesting the Maori seats (it should be left to MMP minor parties like Maori Party and even NZ First etc) because the Labour Party are not genuine about helping Maori – if he said that, I would fully agree with him! 🙂

  Nostradamus: You should read Paddy Gowers Column on the Three website “Winston Plan to become PM” The people on here should read it as he is quite happy to have a Labour Green Coalition without Andrew Little as long as he is the Prime Minister. Winston has gone after Little to colapse the Labour vote and stop Little getting a List place which will give him the opportunity to be PM and lead the NZ First, Labour and Green Coalition.

After listening and reading Paddy Gowers take on who release it I believe he new who it was and has tried to blame others to cover up for who they are promoting.If Andrew Little is lying why would he accuse Winston Peters when he has the most to lose if he and Peters fallout and why is Peters not happy to say who is doing NZ Firsts internal Polling. Winston Peters has the most from gaining from this release and will do everything in his power legal of not to gain a advantage in this Election.

  HOWEVER: The trend is not good for both Liebour or Natalie.
  Before the last election the same pundants said Winston would be King maker, he still a cocktail maker. September is a long way off in political terms and I’m sure more Shock revolations will emerge to tittle our fancy. Democracy a game run by the few to fool the many.

Australia is making the Army the key player in terrorist attacks.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports:

State police will remain the first responders to a domestic terror incident, but will no longer retain sole command of an attack or hostage situation. The military will also be allowed on the streets to support the wider police response, including blocking potential suspects from leaving the scene. Elite special forces would have full legal authority to shoot and kill terrorists.

I wonder if NZ will review its stance on terrorist attacks.

Winston Peters is denying any knowledge of his party’s campaign T-shirts being made in China.

The revelations came during the party’s conference at the weekend.

“No surprises here – but the New Zealand First party’s T-shirt on sale at its conference for $20 is… Made in China,” tweeted Newsroom journalist Tim Murphy.

NZ First, as its name suggests, gives “high priority to maintaining and building the manufacturing sector” and wants “a government procurement policy that gives preference for New Zealand firms”.

Mr Peters himself isn’t so hot on the Middle Kingdom, in 2014 telling supporters “two Wongs don’t make a right”.

It might fly in the face of importing Chinese-made T-shirts, but Mr Peters says he’s just the pilot – and knows nothing about it.

“I haven’t got a NZ First T-shirt. You say that – I don’t know anything about that,” he told The AM Show on Monday.

“I’m at the front of the aeroplane trying to drive it – I’m not at the back sorting out what goes on the toilets and cleaning up the kitchens, right? If somebody’s selling a product, I’ve got no idea what the product is.”

    Sure, but if they want to feature the adventures of a female time lord then why not reintroduce Romana? Or even have her in a spinoff series? Or write a new one? It’s just a way of feminizing a character, and they can get away with being lazy because the character has such a big back history so they don’t risk it being unpopular (to a degree, anyway).
    
    And what if River Song (the Doctor’s wife) returns? Will they now make it a lesbian relationship? A gay marriage? I wouldn’t be surprised. It’s just a way of inserting new liberal values using a classic character. The doctor has been male for over 50 years and 12 incarnations. The character is male.
    
    The idea permeating society these days is that male and female are interchangeable. It’s like they’re trying to make society genderless. Well male and female are very different and they have different strengths. Feminism isn’t feminine. Ironically, it’s almost a rush to make women more like men in order to compete with men while ignoring the strengths that are uniquely female.

I think that over the years National has betrayed our country by morphing into a pseudo-socialist pack of racial separatist sympathisers….. but honestly, they are better by far than Labour, the Greens, TOP or even ACT.

The problem is that if Ngati National continue the way they are going, our country will become ever more fucked until there’s nothing left.

As I see it, the ONLY thing which would stop National from finally destroying this country would be a hugely strong showing for NZF in the polls this year. NZF articulates some of the best ‘blue’ philosphy that National was built on, and with Peters in government with them, they would be forced to pull up their socks and start working for the good of the country.

Party vote NZF this year. Not to ‘send National a message’, but to actually have a real chance to fix things in the real world.

  As someone who can see through Trump’s populist nonsense, you surprise me, Dave Mann. Maori seats have been around since 1867 so so much for Ngati National. And National’s “philosophy”? They’ve never had one! Instead they have always been the party of moderate pragmatic government, with incremental change when needed, and does not divide – and forcing the abolition of Maori seats by the crude device of 51% of the electorate and shit fight and perpetual grievance that will ensue ain’t the National way.
  
  As always, “it’s the economy, stupid” is the reason why National deserves re-election (it’s going well at the moment, btw) and a return to the worst examples of how the country was run before 1984 – which is where Peters wants to go – is not the way to make it better.
  
  All the rest is window dressing and populist nonsense. So much for “the real world”. But your vote, so you are entitled to your judgement. Good luck to you on that score.

    Hey Kimbo thanks for the well presented argument.
    
    I don’t like Trump, not because he’s populist, but because he’s a lying, deceitful, untrustworthy and possibly mad idiot who thinks that his country can be run like a TV reality show… but that’s by the by.
    
    I think Peters would do very well to put the Maori seats to a referendum, rather than simply try to pass legislation to abolish them; that way the electorate at least has a say. He could even make it binding only with a ‘super majority’ of 66.66%, which would be fairer as this would be a very important referendum.
    
    I actually don’t think Peters wants to go back to pre-1984. I think there were SOME aspects of NZ which were better then than now and I think he is focusing on those, rather than total time travel.
    
    One thing that bothers me (well, two actually) is that NZF doesn’t seem to have a lot of high profile talent in their MP ranks and Shane Jones gives me the shits, frankly. Winston might be advised to push his MPs a bit more to the forefront to dispel the image of being a one man band…. but its too early to go back on elevating Jones, sadly.

    National are abandoning the centre right.
    
    Their insane pay equity settlement shows how utterly unconcerned about “the economy stupid” economic principle they are.
    
    National’s chief strategy in the upcoming election is to rely on voter apathy to allow them to keep on drifting along. This is a clueless government that chose to use up most of it’s political capital on – of all things – a flag-change vanity project.
    
    Voting for them tells them they’re on the right course – if you believe strongly that they’re not, then one cannot be apathetic and vote for a status quo that one is against.
    
    National will only course-correct if they get a strong enough electoral stimulus. The least damaging outcome of all the sharp-shock options appears to be National swallowing a lot of Winston’s dead rats.
    
    The choices appear to be:
    – provide a mandate for National’s socialism by stealth
    or
    – not provide a mandate.
    
    The latter option seems to be appearing more and more palatable if Winston’s ratings are to be believed.

  You seem incapable of following the way that a Grand Slam Tennis Tournament works- Nadal, Djokovic and Murray all played at Wimbledon and all fell by the wayside. In a tennis tournament the eventual winner doesn’t actually play all other players, MCos, or is this simple fact a revelation to you? It is the luck of the draw and of current rankings. He or she is the last person standing when all others have fallen.

NZ1st policy of abolishing the Maori seats, well well…what will be the pitfalls (not possible pitfalls, but probable) if referendum goes ahead:
1: we will see the same kind of rhetoric/bullying from the left that Trump supporters recieved in USA, ‘your racist’ when not 100% in agreement for the seats to remain
2: we again will see hikoi marches
3: this will divide NZ, as not all left voters will vote to keep them (i personally know a good few staunch Labour voters that would happily vote to remove the maori seats….but only at the ballot box, in public would be saying ‘keep them’
4: the most definite one of all….supreme court, UN, human rights tribunals etc etc, if the vote comes in to abolish it will spend years in each court like a pinball until one soft court (im guessing UN affiliated one) grants it illegal and breaches Maori human rights.

Its a sorry tale above, but we all know it WILL happen, can Winnie hold his nerve when the time comes? I don’t think so, but hope to be proved wrong!

Gallipoli was the Navy’s fault and poor command by the on site generals-the main errors were not pressing for the higher ground on all landing fronts, and not clearing mines or providing for mine sweepers on the Dardanelles. Logistics rather than a strict plan direct from WC.

Never mind building houses for immigrants. How about we fix the fuck up that currently prevails. A disaster created by the Govt. the Greenies, and various others.

There is a silent epidemic spreading through our city. Its victims are ordinary people.

In our body corporate work my colleagues and I have first-hand experience of the suffering, hardship and extreme stress experienced by many owners of units in multi-title properties that are leaking and rotting and need recladding to meet stringent new local body requirements and the updated building code.

Many apartment owners are finding it impossible to fund the repairs of these compulsory building reclads, particularly if they are single or pensioners and not earning an income.

I’m talking about people in agony. These are very good people who are being forced to the wall and no one gives a stuff. I’ve talked to many of these owners. I’ve seen the absolute hopelessness in their eyes. They’re so bewildered. After nights of no sleep they eventually give up. No one is helping these people.

I meet these people every day. I see them weep at meetings and I feel angry at their plight and very powerless. They can’t sleep at night. They don’t know who to turn to. Nobody is listening. Nobody cares. Nobody is fighting for these people. Everyone is pretending the problem doesn’t exist.

  What can be done Viking? I have an elderly mate who has been through the wringer at a time when he and his wife should have been comfortably retired. I’ve seen the toll that it has taken on his health and I thank our lucky stars every day that just by chance we built in brick and cedar with big eaves. I drive daily past apartment blocks displaying all the telltale signs of leaking and others covered in gladwrap where the owners have already bitten the bullet. What’s to be done? Auckland ratepayers are already paying hundreds of millions because the council officials did not do their job and as taxpayers we are paying out another slice. Why aren’t council officials being held to account & why aren’t the developers in court?
  
  Maybe WFP can make it another bottomline condition in coalition talks.

  No chance of that Viking, Winston is too ‘old school’ to play personal games of spite against a former PM. And from a pragmatic point of view John Key can open a lot of doors for Winston (or keep them closed) given his powerful international connections.
