The Dylan quote is spot on. How many times over the past 4 decades have I seen people with no ethics no morals no principles and these arseholes are passing laws and raiding my hip pocket to line theirs.

All would be politicians should have to submit to any of the recognised tests to determine their character.

Dont pass. Dont take a seat in the House and the voters dodge a bullet.

And before anyone starts blabbering on about the House should represent the population I say BULLSHIT.

They should represent good governance and the ethics morals and principles of the MAJORITY.

And IMHO the majority have good ethics morals and principles not with standing the crapola that passes the laws.

        Well that’s a ridiculous / daft claim.
        Maybe the best thing to come out of all the fall-out from Metiria’s “confession” is we get a clearer idea of what the Greens actually stand for.
        I’m all for animal rights, saving the environment but there’s no way I want to see Maori radicals holding power.

Most people see this very unhelpful to the coalition in my experience.
The question to answer is does this circus interlude make me more likely to vote green, and I can’t see even beneficiaries being hooked. Surely they realise you cant do amnesty, the moral hazard is roughly infinite.
As a long time believer the greens need a say in government, and lets face it, the dairy intensification has destroyed canterbury plains in a nanosecond of geological time as one example, I think this might have once more destroyed their governing opportunity. Yes, she must resign, it is a debacle to be playing out through the election.

Last week Metiria Turei made a shocking announcement, admitting she was a hardened criminal, on the run from the law.

It was a truly bizarre way to launch her forthcoming campaign. Not only because evading the law isn’t strictly ‘policy’, but also because few criminals have so boldly tested the theory of “hiding in plain sight”. Metiria’s crime was of course, stealing from the government.

Years ago, as a struggling single mother, Metiria broke into the Prime Minister’s bedroom and ransacked his night stand (Treasury) and stole cash. I’m talking 10, 20, 30 (more than that?) dollars. She is basically a one-woman Ocean’s 11, or rather, the one women in Ocean’s 11. And she would have got away with it to, if it weren’t for her insistence that she announce it publicly. It’s fair to say, that in a perfect crime, that was her only real misstep.

It’s bad business to focus on benefit fraud, especially when this country is stacked with people regularly undertaking tax avoidance and evasion. It’s like a shop owner worrying about the till missing $5, while someone robs the place around them. Cutting back on loop holes for tax avoidance and convicting people for tax evasion is where our effort should be spent. In fact, you could start with the dozens of rich kids I knew receiving falsely receiving student allowances. That’s fraud! Mind you this government doesn’t care, because those fraudsters get out to vote.

  It’s amazing what some people are willing to overlook when the person doing wrong is flying their flag. If she’d done this as a private citizen no-one would care, but she’s not, she wants to be in charge of the country. I wonder what Alice Snedden wrote about Tod Barclay? Terribly predictable dribble it turns out…. I look forward to Snedden’s further minimisation of crimes by those in power, after all, who cares, they’re flying a flag she likes!

Thinking on it for a week, I think she should resign.
She knowingly Committed Fraud on several occaisions.
Then she knowingly ignored it through her Lawyers exams and qualification (which included a character statement?), then sitting and entering parliament as an MP in the highest court in the land.
Also she used her offending to gain goodwill which is the currency of politics, then said she’d pay it back IF she was asked. That’s not repentance nor a good example for the hoi polloi,
I’ve come to the conclusion that I don’t think she should be a registered lawyer, let alone an MP and definitely not the leader of a political party nor Minister of the Crown.

No she should resign or the Greens should sack her, as should her branch of the law society.
If I knew how I could initiate that I would complain to the speaker for her to be investigated for fraud and bring the house into disrepute.
As he hasn’t declared it to us, that must mean he is bringing the house into disrepute by not acting and should be sacked himself.

it just gets worse doesn’t it.?

  Just the fun of watching his reply to the “pardon” question, and should be made many times before the election.
  
  If he does “believe it or not” become a “co shared”/owned PM, then some of those ambiguous answers could be repeated a number of times, as he flusters and blusters his way, leading to a successful ‘no confidience’ vote, as doubts will possibly allow for some MP’s to cross the floor.

Love the moral contortions that excuse her fraud and the old excuse ‘ everyone does it’ . Well, no they do not.
She’s a smirking insult to all of us who play fair and by the rules. And don’t expect our neighbours fund our law degree, political tomfoolery and designer jackets.
She is an embarrassment.
James and Andrew – time to get rid of her. On second thoughts, keep her hanging round till the elections. Nothing like the stench of fraud and hypocrisy to colour the debate.

    labrator: Quite so…these silly quota schemes also disadvantage perfectly able Maori students who get in on their own merits (when places are tight you need much more than a C+ at stage one to advance to stage two)
    
    I recall when a quota scheme was being discussed for Canterbury 25 years ago…this haughty Maori lawyer called Pauline Kingi – a graduate of Harvard Law – was strongly opposed..She said “why would I want to use a ladder to climb in the back window when I can walk into the front door with everyone else?”
