I personally can’t stand the Politics of Katie ‘I’m an Activist’ Bradford or that wimp Corin Dann but I’m not shrieking for them to be sacked every time they say something I disagree with..

      The said he was pro David Lange in the day and said so openly.

  that the National Party were opening their election campaign on today Saturday.
  Wonder watching and listening to her most nights,she is so biased against the National Government,she even outshines Sue Bradfords daughter ,known as Katie Bradford.

  I like Mike Hosking on ZB breakfast but as with most TV I avoid the evening programme. On the few occasions I have seen the TV programme I thought that both he and the woman he sits beside (the one which looks like a pound of butter) simply show-off and compete with each other on the glibness stakes. When Mike fires-up at 6am it is a world apart from the clown Smalley who blathers at 5am. I envy Mike in his ability to “offend” “antagonise” and generally piss-off the mindless left.

    Mike really doesn’t need Toni Street imo. I think the programme would be much better if Street was dropped. She’s a ‘giggling gertie’ and adds no benefit that I can see to the show. Seven Sharp has really become a talkfest of utter nonsense these days and I think the show could be much improved by dumping her and going back to much more hard-hitting topics. Street will never be a credible ‘journalist’ or whatever she wants to call herself imo. And certainly not up to the mark like Hosking. Oh and my god, the dress Street was wearing on Thursday night was a shocker! Did she not look in the mirror before the start of the show? Seemed to add kilos to her frame.

      I like Toni Street as a personality. She’s a nice person, and in this case I’m not damning with faint praise. Her wardrobe is chosen by the company that is noted as sponsor at the end of the programme, and which pays money for her to wear their product. Some of the garments are definitely unattractive, I agree, and are not flattering. As for being chubby – I believe there is a health condition which influences her weight.
      However, I think that Hosking is now more at ease with the two brunettes who seem to fill in when Street is off duty. I think he felt somewhat threatened when she started mentioning being on a morning radio programme – a music station, scarcely a threat to his programme – and that is when he started closing 7Sharp with his plug for the breakfast programme. He was quite terse with her.
      So although I quite like Hosking’s breakfast programme, I don’t particularly like the man. Y’know what I mean?

      I agree wholeheartedly. Street’s performances are abysmal – giggling inanely, interrupting with barely relevant asides – she adds absolutely nothing to the programme. The quiet refined demeanour of Caroline Robinson is most welcome as her replacement.
      
      The last time I watched the whole 30 minutes with Street on board is so far back I’ve forgotten it completely. Washing the dinner dishes is a far less aggravating activity.

Dani’s linkedin profile said she started in April. And her facebook page says she lives in Darwin and was a reporter in Darwin Local Paper. Is she now living in NZ. If she arrived here in April as an entertainment reporter should she really be the lead story and calling to fire our media. Her first facebook page like is gareth hughes green mp. Is she going to be staying in NZ or does she just come over for the elections. 2. ARTICLE 2. National Parties failed report card is completely unintelligible. But if you make it past paragraph 10 you’ll find find this “To its credit, voters enter the polling booths in 28 days knowing there’s a strong economy, low interest rates, low unemployment and solid economic growth. National have been solid manager ” Well yeah Duncan. That’s pretty much it isn’t it. Perhaps that could have been the title with a pic of Bill English. National, solid Managers of our economy an economy that is the envy of the world. Sigh. No pro- national headlines at all to balance it up.

  Everyone knows that Hosking tends to have right of centre views and he will take any opportunity to express his opinion or cosy up to politicians of a like mind on his programmes.
  That’s OK. You don’t have to listen to him.
  The problem was that the other day Michael made a mistake. He said “you can’t vote for the Maori Party because you’re not enrolled on the Maori electorate”.
  The best construct that can be put on that from his point of view is that he was unaware we have two votes, which is totally unrealistic.
  No wonder the Maori Party were pissed off, and probably their partners the National Party.

  Yep. I have commented before about my puzzlement that the Government did not change the Board of RNZ.
  
  TVNZ is a commercial low brow TV broadcaster that should be sold.
  
  Radio NZ could perform a useful function as a national commercial free provider of news and information. A national radio network also remains useful in civil emergency.
  
  But you need to burn down the Board and start again.

  I would love to give my PV to ACT but feel it would be wasted in present circumstances. This is a problem which ACT faces, unless ACT can start polling at around 3% or better many voters would not want to risk their PV’s being wasted.

Seems the overblown and premature adulation of Angry Andy Little’s replacement,by the trade union infested NZ Mainstream Media. Such as the NZ taxfunded Red Radio,Lie-bour/Green Party chanel TVNZ,the Australian owned Fairfax stuff and NZHerald and their Newstalk ZB outlet . For the last four weeks ,their fake news exulting Angry Andy Little’s replacement,is starting to show some cracks.
Now the potential voters have had a chance to find out what sort of policies Angry Andy’s replacement,has been divulging ,seems none,all that type of confidential information is being with held until after the election.
Reasons seem to be ,special appointed committees will decide,just how much tax and other punitive measures will be enacted,as they see fit.
The real truth is Angry Andy’s replacement,dosn’t seem to know much about running a country. In fact maybe the “empress is wearing no clothes”.

The Labour supporters this election are some of the most uneducated lemmings I’ve ever seen in twenty years of voting

There is a groundswell for change but they can’t articulate why that is needed or why change for change sake is a good thing

They repeat the party one liners of all farmers are polluters, homelessness and suicide is all Nationals fault

Then there is the agreement that Jacinda has no experience but we should just give her a go and let her use the next three years to get up to speed

Basically, TVNZ and RNZ (and Maori TV) are almost entirely reliant on the tax payer.

RNZ had their funding frozen for 8 – 9 years under National.

Same with Maori TV.

TVNZ got told to produce a dividend under National. (Under Clark’s regime they were told not to worry too much about it.)

It is very much in all these organs’ interest to slant everything towards the liberal left. No question. Jobs are at stake… high paying jobs BTW.

Together, these three capture many hearts and minds and they have all been working diligently to attack the National administration for years.

National has allowed their enemies a platform and even got their traditional support base to pay for it. Madness.

Ardern has been leading Labour since the 1st of August. She argues that she needs more time to have a “fresh look” at thorny tax issues.

But the Labour Party – of which she has been a leading light – has been in Opposition for nearly nine years.

That’s plenty of time to get the detail together. That fact that it hasn’t done so suggests incompetence, or a lack of courage when it comes to selling fundamental tax reform.

      I could be persuaded otherwise that it was ‘policy’ if sections included specifics, such as the following:
      – approximate start / implementation dates, costs and transition arrangements;
      – specific tax rates;
      – additional costs to be met by targets (e.g. farmers, food processors, alternative modes of transport);
      – costs / losses for people with assets gathered for their retirement.
      
      Labour policy is being thought up on the run. It is thin on planning and short on detail. And it displays very little concern for mainstream, hard-working New Zealanders

    I had an elderly Aussie Aunt who used to come here occasionally – she had it worked out – at Sydney get a wheelchair and attendant – out of here similarly with great support from Air NZ to get through waiting.
    She actually walked quite well, but had a walking stick for effect.
    Never had a problem being wheeled about.

      Some years ago mrspdm and I were 3 or 4 from the front of a queue which had grown longer behind us at San Fran immigration when a ground crew person bowled up to the front with an Indian (Hindi) lady in a wheelchair. The short, very officious, uniformed, black lady marshaling the queues, immediately made them about turn and return to the back of the increasingly longer queue to the amusement of the rest of us.

I watched Ardern in Dunedin promising to build a new hospital starting in February. Now, the dumb voters who adore her could well be thinking that the first sod of earth will be turned come February. Not so. I believe Ardern should have said ”we will be starting the process to build a new Hospital for Dunedin which, of course, begins with engaging with Architects to build a plan, which then need to go before Council for RMA approval. Then once that’s done, then the tender processes begin, not to mention consultation with IWI etc.etc.” ‘In reality”- or ‘realidy’ as Ardern likes to bastardise the English language and use incorrect pronunciation – ” it could very well be 3 years or more before the actual project gets the green light to begin the building process. Oh and we don’t know where we will build it yet or how many beds. I’ll get the Working Group Committee to work out the details because I don’t have any at the moment. My mate, Robbo hasn’t addressed the nitty gritty with me. He just says it would a good idea to gazump National’s promise to build a new hospital and just tell the fans that the build will start in February – but don’t tell them which year”. In ‘realidy’ we wouldn’t be able to do it any sooner than National is promising, but don’t tell our fans that.” I know that, but how many dumb Labour voters afflicted with the Jacindavirus understand that?

      The US coal industry is going through a big decline because the generation is being replaced by gas turbines running on fracced gas. The gas price is so low, and the resource so plentiful, that it has revolutionized their energy industry. They are even exporting the gas as LNG.
      The LNG market is big and getting bigger. That is why Russia is building a fleet of icebreaker tankers (they are AR7 rated which is about 8 foot thick ice so serious power) to take gas from Siberia to western Europe across the top) . The Artic conveys of WW2 are back, but going the other way now.

So why didn’t Christchurch rebuild as a 21 C city (complete with inner-city light rail loops and docking stations for flying cars)?

There was a heap of consultation serving up all these ideas, but Christchurch is being rebuilt in the old fashion.

Pretty obvious to anyone with a shred of sense:
Rebuilding in a city where 50% of the buildings are still standing is not the same as going a green-fields building of a new city. Those remaining buildings limit what you can do in your rebuilding. You can’t put in the rail if there is nowhere for it to go.

Those consultation phases generated a lot of stupid ideas, but they also delayed the start of the rebuild by 2 years.

      Learning the political realities of this housing performance problem goes back a long time for me … back to the early 1990;s when I was South Island President for the Property Council.
      
      I got land opened up around Christchurch at the time … and learned some very important lessons … the main one being … it aint at its core ideological.
      
      In a nutshell … the housing problem comes about due to ‘institutional failure’ at the local level where the LGs lose control of their costs … and from that the capacity to meet their infrastructure responsibilities and the ability to cope with normal growth.

      America’s infrastructure bonds, through tax exemptions, are often a way for the central government to subsidise local infrastructure.
      
      They typically offer tax exemptions as subsidies. This appeals to investors who already pay tax, but not, for example, to foreigners who do not already have US tax on which to use the exemptions, or to some American tax-exempt investors (an NZ equivalent might be Ngai Tahu group).
      
      States and local authorities also issue tax-exempt bonds. American cities and states have debt of $US3.5 trillion outstanding.
      
      Before we get excited about infrastructure bonds for NZ, we need to consider that they are debt, and likely debt that will be underpinned by State guarantees, and if not, then by final recourse to put a special rate on ratepayers in any default. We need to consider that to get the money in to lend there will very likely also be tax incentives.
      
      If NZ local bodies can’t raise money by present ways of issuing local body bonds, what does this tell you about why State backing, subsidies, or guarantees will be needed for infrastructure bonds?
      
      Just because America does it, doesn’t mean that this isn’t socialism in another of its many guises.

    Been in the industry 30+ years , fortunate to only experienced 2 down turns late 80’s (far more impact than that caused by the GFC) and GFC, could count late 90’s as well.
    Builders are making similar $ profits on a Spec as was the case in 2002-4. But back then a building package was $350-$400k for a $50-$75k GP, now the costs are $1m+ for $50-$100k. So the consequence of holding onto a house has greater implications, and with the tight margins any price reductions very quickly can turn a nice profit to a loss, perhaps fine on one case but many small independent builders will have 2-3 on the go. It can turn very unpleasant quickly.

  Remember Helen Clark? Whose protegé Ardern is making all these uncosted spending promises?
  
  It was Clark’s administration that implemented the present primary healthcare cost structure under which some General Practices receive much higher subsidies for patient consultations, based on their local area’s perceived lower economic status – as ‘determined’ from census data. I know one couple where the husband pays $18 for a visit to his GP, while his wife has to pay $36 to visit her long-time GP working in a nearby suburban practice on the fringes of a modern housing area of greater affluence.
  
  Clark knows precisely how her primary healthcare system works at GP level in crudely classifying urban areas as ‘filthy rich’ or ‘desperately poor’. She will also know fairly accurately how much it would cost to subsidise GP consultation fees by an extra $10 per visit. Will Labour tell us what this ‘policy is likely to cost per annum? Of course not, because it would then have to explain where the money is coming from – in advance on another ‘panel of experts’ being convened after the Election to advise on the detail.
  
  I’ve said before that Helen Clark has her fingers everywhere in this Election campaign. Ardern’s announcement on one of Clark’s former pet interest areas (GP charges to patients), convinces me further that Clark is running the Labour ship from behind the scenes.

    I also read somewhere this morning that Middlemore A & E is so overwhelming that there is an eight hour wait. We can’t really expect the left sheeple to do the math. National have pulled the cost of Doctor visits back to $18 that is a modest amount when fags are way over that price. Also an Steven Joyce pointed out already covered from the minimum $26 those same community card holders will get from April 2018. Every week that is or $1352 per annum. That would be enough to go twice week to the Doctor for free!
Taxinda has countered by nocking another $10 off the cost which they have no idea how much it will cost. Sure to be covered by one or other of their new taxes.
It really dose illustrate how short sighted it was for Labour to reject the Budget 2017 provisions to give 1.3million people a better share. Lest we forget all those people who will get a great boost in income next April. Do your bit also to reduce child poverty by 30% as a result of these tax adjustments and extra benefits kick in. Tick Two 4 Blue.
NB. The child poverty number is theoretically based on the GROSS median income so this is a massive reduction.

  It’s interesting that if you look at the announcement the Labour Party has referenced the National party policy to show what the saving is eg from $18 to $8, not from the current amount to $8
  
  It clearly shows just like Dunedin Hospital that Labour has no policies outside of CGT, water tax and Fair Pay and so for the rest is just trying to copy National and make it more

Jacinda. She appears on a roll. However I liken it to all the excitement prior to a wedding, prior to the birth of a baby. The bridesmaid’s parties, the baby showers, all those presents, the new dress, the hair, the makeup, the photos, oh those photos, the day itself.
THEN unfortunately there is the day after and the bills that you forgot, did the dress really cost that much, my aunty would have made it cheaper, what are we going to do with that wedding recording? Shivers, we had “sex” before we married and produced the child, did we really need the white wedding. We are in our 30’s after all, not young and virginal. Oh the nightmare. Now I have to actually get up and cook breakfast, the ironing, and go to work, how am I going to manage. My husband was much more fun when he was a partner. He is useless. On and on.
Oh I know a good idea, we can get divorced, and wipe the wedding recording.
If only life was that simple the “bride” asks.

  Here’s a link to an Australian report which gives confidence viruses released to control rabbits have been safe for people – two brave Aussie scientists even injected myxoma virus into themselves to prove it doesn’t kill humans.
  
  However, the virus’s deadly effect on rabbits seems to last only about 20 years so there will be continuing hunts for viruses to kill the pests.
  
  Let’s hope the agriculture scientists don’t ever stuff it up and let loose something viral that may spread to humans.
