I have been talking to my Chinese friend.

He says the reasons China does not want a united Korea are manifold.

They don’t want to have the American military on their border.

They don’t want an influx of refugees, especially massively brainwashed ones who have had the last fifty years of progress pass them by.

They don’t want their hard-won middle class disrupted.

But as NK’s only ally, China also doesn’t want the world to see the extent of the misery they have stood by and allowed to happen.

The pictures will be much worse than the stories. High def and all that.

      Russian and Chinese opinions on the matter are merely lip service given they are the ones contributing to the most to the regimes nuclear ambitions. The rest of the world knows this and can only sit and watch as Putin and Xi utter empty words to shield themselves from condemnation. What is surprising is that Iran is barely mentioned when there are obvious signs it is partly their clandestine development project. I suppose Iran thinks it’s off the hook since Obumma decided to bring them in from the cold based on more lies an empty promises of no further missile and nuke development.

      What they both want is to negotiate but Kim Jung UN does not talk.
      
      They also suggest that the USA and SK stop their annual excercies in return for NK stopping missiles and nuclear testing.

  Put no money aside for the unexpected
  No new spending other than that they have already announced.
  Nothing for public service wages increases (living wage which they said they would bring in)

      Most of the repairs are paid by insurance, just like Christchurch.
      The EQC cover only goes to $100k, which may have seemed a lot back in the mid 80s, but might pay for a room or two now. And of course the commercila side is all insurance.

The fable of Bottomwinewinnie.

Once not so long ago, in the land of the Kiwi, there lived a drunken dwarf by the name of Bottomwinewinnie. He had all the charm of a snake oil seller. All gloss and no substance. His Brylcreem and Grecian2000 bill was just about as high as his whisky bill. Over the years the drunken dwarf had made so many demands, calling them his bottom lines.

It came to pass, that Kiwiland was in the amidst of an election. The political climate was to say the least, a little bit confused. The Greens had been decimated by the fraudulent liar that was their co-leader. Meanwhile, Bottomwinewinie was hoping for a shotgun marriage between the Liabores and Bottomwinewinnie Firsts.

On the campaign trail one day Bottomwinewinnie decided to go out to the local Marae to gather support from the local Maori. They were all assembled in the whare nui to hear the speech. Bottomwinewinnie had worked up to his finale, and the crowd was getting more and more excited. “I promise better education opportunities for all Maori!” The crowd went wild, shouting “Tiko! Tiko!” Bottomwinewinnie was a bit puzzled by this, but was encouraged by their enthusiasm. “I promise better roads in Northland” “Tiko! Tiko!” cried the crowd, stomping their feet. “I promise more social reforms and job opportunities for Maori!” The crowd reached a frenzied pitch shouting “Tiko! Tiko! Tiko!” After the speech, Bottomwinewinnie was out touring the farm, and saw a large herd of cattle. Since he was raised on a farm, and knew a bit about cattle, he asked the Kaumatua if he could get closer to take a look at the cattle. “Sure,” the Kaumatua said, “but be careful not to step in the Tiko.”
Now it just so happens that the Liarbores had just elected a new leader, Taxcinderrella. Her mantra was tax everything. This publicity for Taxcindarella upset Bottomwinewinnie. He hated being out of the limelight. Look at me, he seemed to suggest at very opportunity. To counter Taxcinderellars publicity, Bottomwinewinnie phoned up his friendly news reporter and told him all about his dodgy superannuation entitlements. Leak this to your colleagues and blame the National Party. This way we will kill two Keas with one stone. As it turned out the good folk of Kiwiland saw all through this sham and at the next poll Bottomwinewinnie and his band of motley followers had dropped in the polls. Bugger, said Bottomwinewinnie. No matter what I do, no matter what I say, nobody is listening anymore.

To help get over this latest calamity, Bottomwinewinnie stumbles into the Green Parrot and orders a shot of whisky then looks into his pocket. He does this over and over again. Finally, the bartender asks why he orders a shot of whisky and immediately looks into his pocket. Bottomwinewinnie. responds, “I have a picture of the missus in there and when she starts to look good, I’ll go home.”

I am assuming that the figures Labour are trying to say that they are right and two Ministers of Finance, along with some economist more clever than the University ones Labour relies on, assuming that their University Tax expert candidate Debs Russell are wrong or misguided as to the answer you are required to find.
In the old days my clients, when I was programming for them, would give me an indication of what they expected to see as a conclusion, and it was my job to design the details so that they can arrive at the probable conclusion.

Does this bear any relationship to when Michael Cullen told Treasury in a PREFU to ignore $2 billion dollars of unfunded ACC accounts.
Called Creative Accounting – if you do not like it leave it out.
I would rather trust real Ministers of Finance than Grant Robertson and Ganesh Nana – he was given the figures so how can he disagree and he is being paid for his advice and presumably being told what answers to expect.

  Interesting that the faintly lefty Patrick Smellie a Newstalk ZB news correspondent ,interviewed last night on Larry Williams show. Patrick said he had spent the whole day checking Robertsons denials,on Lie-bour financial budget. He also did the same with Stephen Joyce’s of Lie-bour not knowning how to manage a financial budget.

There are also obviously other measurements in there too: number of research papers published etc, but a lot of those are more a result of the size of the university and the population that support it rather than a true apples-to-apples comparison of the university courses themselves.

A thought on NZs waterways and cleaning them up.
Yes Jacinda, you visited Meola creek earlier this year, acknowledged that things need to happen to clean up this creek. (It is the most disgusting creek you can imagine right in the heart of her electorate).
So a start might be to tax Aucklanders to clean up their waterways, those places full of Macdonald’s packets plastic bottles, dirty nappies any other imaginable thing.
Start in your own backyard before moving elsewhere. Clean up your own place, the place that was the Minister Helen Clarks and was filthy then.
While we are about it what about the creek/stream that runs through the Auckland Zoo, the one that hippos and other animals are allowed to play in.

This is the clearest signal yet that NZ workers and home-owners/land-owners/business-owners/farmers/dead people/Grannys will be facing new and increased taxation under a Labour government.

Labour have nothing left in the kitty for any additional spending in the 2018/19/20 budget periods. They have essentially spent it all in one foul swoop on their 2017 bribes.

So if the country was to face economic uncertainty, another major disaster, significant increased demand for public spending or other unexpected expediture there would be nothing left to pay for it.

The obvious result – increased taxes, or borrow.

The transparency is now clear – vote Labour, get new/increased taxes.

It’s not hard to understand. They committed all their forward operating allowance into the current budget. Outside education and health there is nothing left for defence, justice, DOC, environment, police, departments, kiwi rail, emergencies etc. Either they are going to be running austerity ‘zero’ budgets (impossible), or they have to borrow and tax to fund government. I think in 08 they increased operating allowance by $7billion in a single year.

Joyce is right. The fuckwits have to borrow or tax another 11billion. The economists are just watching out for their jobs. Grant either has to ‘find efficiencies’ or grow the economy over 5% when he’s guaranteed to stall it with his Venezuelan workplace relations policy.

A house is one thing, land is another. So, is the land tax on the land the family home sits on? I’m buggered if I can tell. We really need to know who the working group of “experts” will be, because it seems it is they who are who we’re electing this September.   However there will be a tax on the capital increase in the value of the land that the house sits on.
  They can do that because rates evaluations are seperated by land and house.
  So it is disengeneous to say no CGT on the family home as you can’t have a home floating in thin air (yes, even apartment dwellers will be hit).

A recent paternity case in Auckland , “the court heard” how a travelling salesman tried to arrange an abortion for his girlfriend by supplying drugs through Pfizer who was his employer. This was 47 years ago when Abortion was definitely illegal ( current law passed in 1977)

Was there a connection between the travelling salesman 47 years ago and a later well known anti -abortion politician. ?

On Monday Joyce called a press conference to fact shame Labour over it’s shoddy accounting. But now the experts verdicts are in, claiming it is Joyce that has got egg on his face.
Those experts include Vernon Small , Patrick Smellie, ANZ chief economist Cameron Bagrie , economist Shamubeel Eaqub, NZ Initiatives Sam Warburton , Newsroom’s Bernard Hickey, NZ Herald columnist Brian Fallow and Berl’s Ganesh Nana , to name a few.
No doubt there will be some Kiwibloggers who will try to denigrate some or all of those named above on the basis that they know more than the experts do.

  The question I would pose for them to consider is have they all factored in all costs for the duration of the electoral cycle, i.e. the following three years.
  Are Labour’s policies affordable, and are they sustainable over that term.

Apparently Ms Ardern has announced this morning, in Hamilton, that she will ban ‘letting fees’ on rental houses and flats. My initial thoughts:

1. How many other regular, legitimate businesses stand to be attacked / abolished in this manner? What about Trade Me charges, commissions on auction sales (properties, farmstock, car auctions, etc) and Lotto agency sales?

2. Rentals for properties must rise to meet this interference in a normal market. Owners, of course, will seek to recover what they are charged by agents. In my case, I would seek to recover that charge, in the weekly rental, over the first quarter (12-13 weeks of rental payments). How many landlords might then be expected to reduce the weekly rental? Not many, I’ll bet.

The IRD has the power to disclose Peters’ superannuation info, but will they use that power?
In 2011 the IRD rewrote it’s secrecy rules to give itself the power to publicly respond to attacks by taxpayers that threatened “the integrity of the system”.
If the allegations by Peters that IRD are responsible either for the mistake in his superannuation payment or the leaking of that overpayment are false , then they appear to fall squarely within IRD’s policy. And then it would be empowered to publicly release whatever info it believes necessary to clear its name, even at the cost of Peters’ privacy.

It’s so funny. They can’t spend an extra cent in 2019-2020-2021. Not a cent. But the media is “there is no hole”.

Economists are too scared to contradict Grant because they fear for their jobs if Labour win. Its very simple. Labour has poured all its forward operating allowance into this budget. It cannot fund government outside health and edu unless for the next 3 years it runs austerity zero budgets, which is an impossibility. There is NO MONEY left for defence, police, kiwi rail, transport generally, DOC, NIWA, research generally, the environment, justice etc. Grant has said he’ll ‘find efficiencies’ which is a dire joke, or grow the economy 5% which is a dire joke. The economists are bailing him out harder then taxpayers bailed out Wall Street I saw someone else put it.

Everyone knows Grant isn’t going to run zero budgets. Everyone knows he isn’t going to grow the economy 8% to make up for his shortfall. He will tank growth with his Union takeover of the economy.

  It is not fiscally unsustainable as we have universal health cover, ACC, subsidised doctor visits, WFF tax credits, tax paid over 65 super, AS, parental leave, child tax credits for those with children under 3 and a budget surplus.
  
  And given the best way to reduce child poverty is to improver rental standards and to create jobs for sole parents with children, there is no budget cost to it.

Taxcinda is not ruling out taxing residential sections!!! This sucks! So if you are on a multimillion dollar mansion on a pocket section in Parnell you should be sweet. But a cottage on a farm in pukekohe or an old westie house on a section in the Waitakere Ranges Heritage Area (which cannot legally be subdivided) , or Rodney, or the older outer suburbs like Glen Eden where there are bigger sections, or a big unuseable bush section in Titirangi you could be pinged big time. Is there any other taxes we could be hit up for Jacinda. FF Sake. She should tell us what the taxes are before the election. This is so unacceptable.

Rescue of woman wedged retrieving thrown poo breaks window

One of those bizarre stories that makes you click on it just to see what’s up.

This story does not answer the question of why? Why would a person panic and throw their poo out the window? I don’t get it. What’s wrong with flushing? Or did it not flush? Was it one of those really large ones that just wasn’t going to go down no matter what? The mind boggles.

PETER FA’AFIU: Just trying to figure out how many of those I’ve, uh, ha ha ha ha!
MORA: Okay, you can tie a tie.
PETER FA’AFIU: Pancakes, yeah. Tie….
MORA: Pancakes? You know how to make money?
PETER FA’AFIU: Yeah.
MORA: Do you know how to write a cover letter?
PETER FA’AFIU: Yes.
MORA: Ahh, do you know how to lose fat around your tummy?
PETER FA’AFIU: No.
MORA: Okay. I won’t ask you the REST!

MEGAN WHELAN: So Simon Rogers, Google’s data editor, one of the things he mentioned is that these “How To” searches have increased a hundred and forty per cent—so more than doubled—since two thousand and FOUR, and MUCH of that interest is directed at how to sort of FIX things, so oftentimes it’s how to fix a lightbulb or replace your window or fix your washing-machine or even the toilet. So I had a look at Google Trends, ahhh, which is how you can search some of this stuff yourself, for New Zealand for the past twelve months—
MORA: Aah!
MEGAN WHELAN: So related searches, our ones, so this is not the exact data that THAT list is, the global list is, ‘cos it’s not broken down in the same way, but searching “How To” and getting related searches for that for New Zealand, we searched “How to draw”, “How to screenshot”—
MORA: Oh yeah.
MEGAN WHELAN: And someone has texted in to say that when THEY searched it, they got the auto complete, so often when you google something “how to” it will fill in the sentence for you? They got “How to make SLIME”, which is number THREE in New Zealand. We also searched “How to make slime without borax”, which seems a VERY specific thing—-
PETER FA’AFIU: A ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!
MORA: Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!
MEGAN WHELAN: “How to proNOUNCE” is number four—-
MORA: “How to pronounce”?
MEGAN WHELAN: “How to pronounce”. So, presumably, there is another word following that one. “How to lose weight”, “How to make money”, “How to tie a tie”, then that’s the slime without borax. How to-o-o-o-o-o, oh, er, break a —I can’t read my own HANDWRITING!—I think it was something like “break an iPhone”? Ummmmmm—-
VICTORIA STEWART: Easily—-
MEGAN WHELAN: Ha ha ha ha!
VICTORIA STEWART:—is the way I think of that. Drop it!
MEGAN WHELAN: Ha ha. And then, LASTLY, in our New Zealand related searches taught you “How to delete Instagram accounts”. I’m a little bit worried what New Zealanders have been doing on their Instagram accounts that they feel the need to delete them!
PETER FA’AFIU: Hyunhh, hyunnhh.
MORA: Yeah, exactly.
MEGAN WHELAN: Yeahhhh!
MORA: The slime thing will be children, ‘cos our twins make slime.
MEGAN WHELAN: Yes!
PETER FA’AFIU: Same. For me.
MEGAN WHELAN: Has that been quite a thing in the last twelve months?
MORA: Yeah it has recently. Yeah.
MEGAN WHELAN: Right.
MORA: So THAT’ll be a current thing, the slime thing. I didn’t know, they don’t know about the borax.
MEGAN WHELAN: Yeahhh.
MORA: So, we search for the most trivial things as well, don’t we.
VICTORIA STEWART: Yes. I think a lot of this is about the sentence construction? So you might find that people searching for recipes aren’t searching—so for me, I wouldn’t google “How to cook pancakes”, I would google “Pancake recipe”—
PETER FA’AFIU: Mmmm.
VICTORIA STEWART: “EASY pancake recipes”. Ha ha!
MEGAN WHELAN: Yeah. Or something like that. Or a specific pancake recipe, which is my favorite pancake recipe, but, errr, so, but I might search “How to tie a tie”, ‘cos that sentence makes more sense than “pancake recipe.” Yeah.
MORA: Okay, but, there’s um, very little of, uh, “How can I be nicer?” or “What is the meaning of life?” or those [with mock sententiousness] profound questions….
MEGAN WHELAN: “How can I be nicer?” Okaaayyy….

At that point, I reached the point of maximum disgust, and could take no more of this drivel. The inanity, the determined triviality of this chatter, the complete and utter contempt for the listeners are bad enough, but what really angered me was that last statement by Jim Mora. His suggestion that he cares about “profound questions” is disproven by the subject matter and the tenor of the discussions on his show. And as for “How can I be nicer?”—well, let’s have a look at a few instances of how “nice” Jim Mora is….

        How much snow falls and how much snow melts.
        It is not the mass balance of the Greenland ice sheet .
        
        For an ice sheet that neither grows or shrinks, there is at all points averaged over the year a balance between
        
        the amount of snow that falls and is compressed to ice
        the amount of snow and ice that melts or evaporates (sublimates) and
        the amount of ice that flows away due to the ice motion
        
        The two first contributions make up the surface mass balance. For the ice sheet as a whole, there is a balance between the surface mass balance and the amount of ice that calves into the ocean as icebergs.
        
        If climate changes, the surface mass balance may change such that it no longer matches the calving and the ice sheet can start to gain or lose mass. This is important to keep track of, since such a mass loss will lead to global sea level rise. As mentioned, satellites measuring the ice sheet mass have observed a loss of around 200 Gt/year over the last decade.

The European Union’s highest court has rejected appeals by Slovakia and Hungary against having to take in refugees.

Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic will now be in a steeper stand-off with the EU over Merkel the Mad’s policy on Middle East and African refugees.

This could finish the EU. In the meantime, I bet it will try to pressure NZ to take more refugees as part of any free-market deal.

  We know that in the background would be Helen Clark dreaming of becoming the first president of Aotearoa.
  
  There is little doubt that at the same time the country would either be renamed Republic of Aotearoa or Republic of Aotearoa New Zealand, or the Republic would have two titles: Republic of New Zealand and Republic of Aotearoa. Yeah, like Mount Taranaki aka, or supposed to be aka, Mount Egmont.

    I have no difficulty with independence.
    
    I would however prefer continuance of the Crown terminology, and have the person in the role of Crown Governor.
    
    This would illustrate they are to be seen as simply a successor to the current Governor General, and thus not to be seen as having full status of a head of state. The point being to see the people as having sovereignty and thus this person as just another public servant.

    I have seen nothing to indicate that she would seek such a position.
    If we were to vote on such a proposition, how many people would vote for her anyway, versus Prince Big Ears?
