I’ve become a grandfather for the first time. She’s the most beautiful creature to be born as she takes after her grandmother. I’m bursting with pride. Her mum and dad are pretty stoked too.

  E.g. our daughter was with us at her grandparents and she was colouring in a book… and going off the edge of the book and onto the carpet. I exclaimed.. ‘no’ but my Mother replied “don’t worry about it”. What????

  Yes, it is a joy – I have 7 grandchildren – only 1 boy though 14, all the rest girls. The oldest, 19, is in her second year at Vic. Uni. – the others range from 17 down to 12,all at secondary school – the next to go to Uni is a 17 y/o.
  The beauty with grandkids is – you can hand them back to their parents if they become a pain. 😉
  
  I reckon I’m only 4 or 5 years away from being a GREAT grandfather. 🙂

  It is good, and may it continue. My Grandkids are now 18, 17 and 15. They live with me (long story)
  Now back in September we went to Alaska. See I have this sort of stepdaughter from Thailand who married an Alaskan man. Son is 6 months old now and yeah it is like having a step Grandson.

  What it amounts to, is to look proactive in the first 100 days forced through legislation they hadn’t thought through, refused to take amendments & refused to allow to go to a select committee. Now they have heard they screwed up over the matter, they are tried to find a way to back pedal without losing face. Will be good to watch this unfold in the media.
  
  PS. Please keep Iain Lees Galloway exactly where he is, he is such a shinning example of the CoL’s incompetence every time he is faced with fronting to the media.

    Thats because the paid parental leave was previously a private members bill which was successful through all its stages including committee until vetoed by bill english as ‘too expensive’
    Come the election and national did an ‘about face’ and had their own proposal for the election .

      What the current govt does (or doesn’t do) is irrespective of what the National government did prior to 23rd September.
      As you stated correctly, the original bill was a private member’s & it passed through the select committee, but that didn’t mean it had to be passed under urgency in week 1 of the new parliament. Instead they pushed it through, & it is there with all its inadequacies for all to see.
      
      So, if you want someone to blame for the government finding itself in a hole over this issue, go and chat to Sue Mulroney. It was her bill after all, that Bill English stopped.

A friend of mine showed me their sons fortnightly school newsletter sent out on Friday.

Perhaps it’s the Labour administration emboldening the civil service but their Christmas message was as follows:

Happy holidays to all……Christmas is a time where all the diverse cultures of Aoteoroa New Zealand celebrate what it means to be a Kiwi…… Christmas is all about spending time with those you love as you unwrap the presents under the tree

After reading that load of sanctimonious PC dribble and despite not being religious, we both agreed that everyone this year is going to be getting a Christmas card with baby Jesus and the 3 wise men.

For all all the multikult “all cultures are equal” lefties (there aren’t many to be fair), willll be getting the card with a message to to take the time to remember the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ

Watching them grit their teeth as they read it will bring mote of a a smile than giving any kind of present ever will❗

    It’s insidious, but actually quite funny to watch them explain that Christmas has no real meaning beyond shopping, consuming & “celebrating all Cultures” yet they go blue in the face explaining to us that ancient NZ festival of Diwali (or the festival of colour as we’re supposed to remember it)

    All religions (or almost all) appear to celebrate specific calendar points, so it’s not a case of stealing but absorption. No doubt the original Germans derived their beliefs from some other people and so on back to the distant past…

Bill English’s interview on Red Radio this morning was cut short because of “reception issues”. It was not Bill’s cellphone however it was because Guyon was being destroyed in his attempt to put National in a bad light. He cut Bill off before he could mentioned the thousands of questions Mallard submitted. They don’t like the fact the the government is flip flopping on their announcement that they will be a “Open and transparent government”.
Cooking the popcorn and looking forward to 2pm.

  Actually I disagree – I’m sure there must be someone in the Labour Party who will willingly draft a formal complaint about the injustice of it all to the League Referees’ Association. If nothing else, it will make someone look as though they are doing some meaningful work. Someone needs to lead a march and champion placard holders outside Parliament.

What is going on with NZ Politics. It is starting to look and sound that Mugabe type of politics are being mirrored in NZ.
The Peters formed “Coalition of Fear” with “Commie Chic” Comrade Ardern has now mushroomed in a Mafia type of “Coalition of Confusion and Corruption”.
The Mafia or better known as the “Mob” made out secret and clandestine deals and agreements,which were never allowed to see the light of day.
Now it has been revealed that “Luigi” Peters and “Commie Chic” Comrade Ardern have done a 38 Page secret agreement,which they are refusing to release. Rumour has it they have virtually sold out NZs, as well as their many loyal voters.
Stories are now doing the rounds ,that if the secret 38 page agreement or document is made public,that the so called “selected” Peters Government ,could legally be classed as a bastard Government,or for the PC term . Illegitimate in total.

Their obfuscation is making it a bigger issue the longer they delay it’s release. Even made more so since it may be now version A and version B. They are battling hard to hide this while again exposing claims of openness and transparency as the original lie.   Look at the way the Greens’ human rights lawyer, Golriz Ghahraman, is trying to distance herself from the content (and therefore the accuracy) of her highly-misleading profile.
  
  There’s no problem with a defence lawyer doing his or her job to ensure that an accused client is given a fair trial. The problem for Ghahraman, however, is that part of her work has been portrayed as prosecution of genocide perpetrators, rather than their legal defence.
  
  Ghahraman may or may not have written the wording in question; who knows? But, if she did not draft the wording personally, it is inconceivable to me that her personal profile was not submitted to her for her clearance in advance of publication.
  
  Curiously, her profile in the Greens’ website still includes the following:
  
  “Golriz has lived and worked in Africa, The Hague and Cambodia putting on trial world leaders for abusing their power, and restoring communities after war and human rights atrocities, particularly empowering women engaged in peace and justice initiatives.”
  
  Part of that statement is still factually incorrect and materially misleading. The Greens organisation is incompetent in its failure to correct the misrepresentation.

Well, that pedestal now has a few cracks. It’s time for Greens’ leader James Shaw to show some leadership and deal firmly with with the latest female problem in his Party. So Peters is incorrect we now know in that he did not say that the details of the coalition agreement would be released.
Has he been summoned to Heather’s office to be told to STFU – all decisions (and lies) come from here.
I assume by now he has been told that he is only here to make up the numbers in exchange for the baubles.
I wonder whether Cindy wakes up every morning and decides what to flip flop on today with a lie that we are supposed to accept.
Having thought that Helen Clark was the worse Prime Minister in living memory I can see that within a month her team is back in charge in telling Cindy what to do and how to lie.
For Clark it is unfinished business – she has never forgiven New Zealand for giving her the boot.
Now through her parasites she is continuing to exact her form of UTU.
It is believed Cindy’s temper is getting rapidly worse – am not surprised at he incompetence showing so soon. She is so far up herself it is becoming farcical.

She’s worked on both sides of the fence—while in the Khmer Rouge Tribunal she was working as a prosecutor, but in Rwanda and Yugoslavia Ghahraman worked on the defence teams of people accused of appalling human rights abuses.
    
    Despite coming from a strong advocacy background, she says she didn’t find it difficult defending perpetrators.
    
    “No, I believe so strongly in the process,” Ghahraman says. “If you’re going to convict someone, you have to know what those individuals were actually responsible for. We have to have a fair process, because how we treat the worst people in our society actually does define us.     Worse, in her maiden speech, she misled Parliament — and she misled with many of the things she said. Watch the way her mouth and eyes give her away when she lies — assuredly not a poker player. The bullshit about the Iran/Iraq war was the worst packet of claptrap — she was 1200 kms away from this war, and only 0 to 6 years old.
    
    Ironically though, I can’t see her losing her seat from any of this.
    
    She’s cagy. She’s sharp. She’s dangerous. And from all this, (yes, I know you will not like me saying it, so downtick away) I predict she is the most likely to become the Vagina CoLeader.
    
    Watch this space.
    
    To me, she is very good at what she does. I suspect she will go a long way. It’s no exaggeration, I think she is huge leadership potential.

  When I first heard that I thought if she’s 27 (?) years old now, how on earth could someone who was in their early to mid 20’s (a few years ago) achieve such high status?
  
  Turns out she was an “intern” (as she tried to spin it yesterday to minimise her association) and then a junior member of another team etc. Which means again (like Ron Mark and his “SAS” backstory) she was content to sit back and let the MSM repeat time after time that she had more experience than she actually had. The secret section of the coalition agreement

So because it is an agreement between Labour and NZ First, it is not an official Government document so Ardern won’t release it. But it is binding on Labour and NZ First Ministers so the secret codicil to the coalition agreement is very important and significant.

If it is not an official Government document, placing it outside Parliament’s purview, but is binding on Labour and NZ First Ministers, does it not then become an unlawful influence on Parliament’s function, but outside or beyond Parliament, which I thought was some infringement of democracy and New Zealand law, although I don’t know quite the right term for it.

So last year National said that to encourage the growth of Electric cars it would allow them to use Bus Lanes at Motorway on ramps.
When Auckland Transport was asked why it hasn’t been implemented they stated their strategy revolved around Public Transport.
Reading the below article it looks like AT’s wants to deliberately make the roads more congested and force people out of cars using a strategy called the ‘Road Diet’
‘In July of 2017, Los Angeles imposed a “road diet” in the quiet beach community of Playa del Rey, replacing car lanes with bike lanes and parking spaces. The roads were suddenly jammed with traffic. The community was livid.’

    Yes Griff, we know that but the Council won’t do their part in allowing it to happen. AC manages the roads leading to the motorways.They will only test them using T2 and T3 lanes which isn’t as effective.
    Do try to keep up.

      Griff, I’m an entrepreneur and I can assure you I spend a good deal of time looking and moving forward, while learning by looking backward. The ICE’s days are numbered, but battery energy density is a limiting factor for EVs, as is the lack of distribution. If 2% of Auckland’s cars were EVs today and those required charging every few days there would be part of Auckland blacked out.

        If you are charging over night 10amp 240v is more than sufficient to power a 100km commute .

    It was fascinating to watch the American media reaction to this. Given that the Yanks are absolutely besotted with the ‘concept’ of the British Monarchy, the whole US female ‘reporter/ presenter’ TV clique was absolutely besides themselves with glee, a sentiment summarised by one well-known presenter (who will remain nameless) saying in awestruck delight ‘She’s OUR princess’, with emphasis on the ‘our’.
    
    I suspect that the Prince is seen as a ‘trophy’ by the fiance, with the ‘ultimate’ goal being the crown; something that ‘establishment’ Britain won’t tolerate; a ‘low-level’ divorcee is simply not acceptable, as Wallis and Edward discovered. Saw a very odd scene on TV One news last night. I wasn’t paying much attention but Winston Peters was in the foreground, peering around at the camera. Ardern standing behind him. He was grinning like a loon, she looked very angry. Anyone know what was going on there ?
I wasn’t listening because I’d caught up on the politics of the day with Barry Soper on Larry Williams earlier;
– Labour refusing to answer National’s written questions – nothing to see there apparently. All OK, Nats being childish. Different when Labour did it.
– Secret agreement between Soper’s Winston and Labour – nothing to see there apparently. All OK. Doesn’t need to be published. Winston must have been misreported when he said he would publish it. Different when English held things back.
– Green MP misrepresenting her past. Nothing to see there. All OK. Everyone does it. Despicable when National does it.

If the waka-jumping bill is to preserve integrity for voters, the coalition needs to display a little integrity itself.

In the “democracy” section of Labour’s coalition agreement with NZ First is a promise to introduce and pass a ‘waka jumping’ bill as “a matter of honouring the electorate who voted for us”.
Winston Peters sees this measure as maintaining the integrity of Parliament to truely reflect the result as New Zealanders voted.

This is after Winston has negotiated up to seventy changes or deletions in policies New Zealanders have voted for, and his coalition continues to modify what remains.

Regarding those deletions or changes to policies people voted for –
Labour and NZ First have released a brief coalition document, but in October Peters spoke of the existence of a 38-page document underlying the list of policy wins, and setting out how the Government would work.

If Winston wants a law to prevent change in one aspect of what we voted for, he should at least facilitate information on changes he has already negotiated to the policies we did vote for.

It will be a measure of Winston’s integrity as to whether the 38-page document is released or not – honest transparency of changes he has negotiated, or remain a secret direction of Cabinet Members.
It will reflect on whether the waka-jumping bill is worthy legislation or just a maintenance of Winston’s coalition advantage.

  I had to laugh at an interview about this that I saw a few days ago on the US TV network, PBS. They constantly imply what a serious and sober outfit they are as they hit all the right messages and stories – and bury the others they don’t want to talk about.
  
  So it was with this interview, for the whom the talking head presented was not some one from the NFL but….
  ESPN.
  
  And of course he dismissed in a couple of sentences any suggestion that all these collapsing ratings and empty stadiums might be connected with the “protests”. No, no. It’s concerns about concussion and blah, blah, blah. The yakker also made the point about how the Superbowl still far outranks other such events in the US, such as the NBA finals and the World Series – and I thought to myself that January’s coming fast and we will see. My bet is that Superbowl 2018 is going to be the lowest rating in thirty years.
  
  No mention of ESPN’s falling ratings and subscribers either, or the reasons for that. No Sirree Bob; an issue so non-existent it doesn’t even need a question.

These Constitutional Documents must now be ordered to research them if future researchers know they exist.
      
      This corrupt act is to allow the National Government to write a new Constitution based on the Treaty of Waitangi that played absolutely no part in shaping New Zealand or New Zealand becoming a British Colony with a political, legal or justice systems under one flag and one law, irrespective of race, colour or creed.

That suggests that the truth is either unpalatable or embarrassing to her, which is an insult to members of her profession who are not ashamed to have defended people. However, Phil Quin has said that she published an article which made her a genocide denier, and that is bullshit. From the abstract that I read, it is a treatise on whether there was sufficient evidence to put the Rwandan president on trial for war crimes following the shooting down of a plane in 1994, and had nothing to do with genocide denial.   It’s one thing if Radio NZ wants to provide taxpayer funded broadcasts in Maori, augmenting the Maori service of the 21 taxpayer supported tribal radio stations.
  
  However, it’s another if it intersperses bursts of Maori, substitutes Maori for English versions of place names, and mixes Maori and English constantly. That is is turning its English into NZ Pidgin.
  
  An example is the introducing of its announcers using Maori descriptions for their roles (ahau or similar which sounds like “ho’s” in Pidgin).
  
  I hope Brash also points out that the change in language on Radio NZ came about after an agreement between it and Labour apparatchik Willie Jackson as chairman of Te Whakaruruhau, the federation of 21 (taxpayer supported) tribal radio stations.
  
  Garner will give Brash a stiff time. Garner is biased when it comes to promoting Maori language. He had two children with his former wife, the part-Maori Mihingarangi Forbes (born Joanne Forbes). Wikipedia reports that, in an interview, Forbes has said that she supports bilingualism, and is raising her children to speak both English and Maori.

    The likelihood is that the Radio NZ – Jackson deal may have been political play by Radio NZ.
    
    It may have been seeking Maori Party support in the then National Coalition as the State radio provider began planning to transform itself into a State internet provider as well.
    
    Since then its learned that State radio also has hopes of running its own TV channel. Maori political support would help it achieve this goal.
    
    From the Jackson side, it seems to be, with Maori radio, and national state radio: what’s mine is mine, and what’s yours if half-mine.
    
    I hope Garner bears in mind that a goal of Radio NZ, now implicitly supported by Maori, is to run yet another State TV channel, which would compete with TV3.

      EAD has misled before on Kiwiblog about Solsenytsin on Russia’s Jews. The book EAD refers to has not been fully translated into English as far as I am aware, but Solsenytsin in it does criticise the role of Jews in the Bolshevik Revolution.
      
      However, in it also, reports Wikipedia:
      
      Solzhenitsyn criticizes the “scandalous” weakness and “unpardonable inaction” that prevented the Russian imperial state from adequately protecting the lives and property of its Jewish subjects. But he claims that the pogroms were in almost every case organized from “below” and not by the Russian state authorities. He criticizes the “vexing,” “scandalous”, and “distressing” restrictions on the civil liberties of Jewish subjects during the final decades of the Russian old regime. On that score, in chapter ten of the work he expresses his admiration for the efforts of Pyotr Stolypin (Prime Minister of Russia from 1906 until 1911) to eliminate all legal disabilities against Jews in Russia.

  Treading the mill – Maori “business” pretty much consists off buying up monopoly businesses using taxpayers handouts (treaty settlements).
  
  Not to mention getting first right of refusal on underpriced assets sold by the State.
  
  Add in State created inflation, and it’s easy to be fooled into thinking that “Maori are driving NZ’s success” but all they’re doing is either collecting monopoly rents on things such as Seafood/Forestry, or using their handouts to buy already successful businesses or developing prime land that they bought for peppercorn prices.

They do dispense regular cheques to the (very quickly growing membership, you only have to be a 640th Ngai Tahu Maori apparently) Ngai Tahu tribal members. ‘…Auckland’s median house price was $427,500 when Mr Key’s Government came to office late 2008 (refer 2009 5th Annual Demographia International Housing Affordability Survey ).

If prices had even been held at this level … with a sound mix of land releases and progressive bond financing of infrastructure … and with Auckland’s current median household income of $83,000, Auckland’s median multiple today would be 5.1 not the current 10.

Median house prices are currently way out of control at around $830,000.

Better still … if prices had been allowed to gently ease since late 2008 (as polling has illustrated most New Zealanders prefer … and currently getting underway in Greater Christchurch, led by easing rentals), then Auckland today would be well on the road to restoring housing affordability.

Auckland’s house prices would now be around 4 times household incomes, not the egregious 10 times incomes they are.

The median house price would be about $330,000 … not the current stratospheric and grossly irresponsible $830,000 !

This morning’s NZ Herald reports on Wilson Parking New Zealand’s 2017 annual report.
So I searched the annual report. The Herald’s reporting seemed to me to be more of what one would expect from Wilson’s public relations agency.
No mention was made that the company has eight directors, only one of whom is a New Zealander. No mention of the fact that their ultimate holding company is based in that well known tax haven, the British Virgin Islands.
I think the above paragraph might give Kiwiblog readers a better understanding of that company’s corporate mentality. The main stream media won’t.

Anyone who likes a bet take a look at todays Addington Dogs Race 5 and check out No 8 “Jacinda”.
Word is the dog is bit sneaky and has been known to trip and hustle opponents to get out in front but is well liked by the media hence it’s the favourite for the race.
Biggest downside however is it’s been known to backtrack and prevaricate quite badly leading it to sometimes not fully commit itself to the task at hand resulting in some flaky performances.

I was not that concerned about a tax cut when people with cancer and some other very serious diseases had to go on Give a Little to pay for their own life saving drug.

I now see Labour is going to fund a drug to healthy people to prevent them from getting HIV while the NZ AIDS Foundation will not suggest that homosexuals could lower their risk if they did not sodomize or allow themselves to be sodomized by multiple partners.

Interesting information in a ruling by the Immigration and Protection Tribunal….

A report from the Immigration and Protection Tribunal about an abused Sikh woman in NZ as an “IELTS” bride.

IELTS stands for International English Language Testing System, which is jointly managed by the British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia (an international education company), and Cambridge English Language Assessment (part of Cambridge University).

Radio NZ reports the NZ tribunal ruled the woman would not be safe if she returned either to her home region or as a single Sikh divorcee elsewhere in India.

In its report, the tribunal says the woman passed her English test, but was rejected for student visas in Australia, Canada, Britain, and the United States.

However, she was granted a visa for New Zealand.

Radio NZ reports:

Eventually the first part of his plan worked – the woman was granted a student visa in New Zealand – but his application for a dependent’s visa was twice rejected.

The tribunal was told he controlled her from India, including where she could live and work, and she was forced to send him money.

He told her to put her phone on video mode so he could watch her with colleagues at work and threatened to rape her sister, kill her brother and get her deported when she said she wanted a divorce.

The tribunal ruled she would not be safe if she returned either to her home region or as a single Sikh divorcee elsewhere in India.

The woman couldn’t get a student visa for four other Western Anglo countries, but got one for NZ. Now she can stay.

I actually find it funny when Bill English was answering questions from Winston First over the Todd Barclay affair there were people on here calling him a liar and playing games by not answering the question to their or Peters likening. So now Winston is playing the same games and people like wise owl, MCos, doggone7 and a few others don’t say a dicky bird when the NZ First and Labour Leaders turn Parliament into a laughing stock by trying to be Comedians in answering their questions today. Obviously their views are helped by a Speaker that think he is God and he is the star of question time with his childish rebukes.

On the 17 April 2017 the Constitution Room at Archives New Zealand was dismantled and our historic documents separated with the Declaration of Independence, the Tiriti o Waitangi and the Women’s Suffrage Petition being moved under darkness to the new taxpayer funded $7.2 million He Tohu exhibit at the National Library, Wellington, while all our true Constitutional documents being filed away with over 6 million documents in Archive’s repository where the government hopes they will soon be forgotten and lost for ever.

The three documents moved to the He Tohu exhibit had nothing to do with, “Our constitutional documents that shape New Zealand”. Absolutely nothing!

The Declaration of Independence was a failed attempt by James Busby to have tangata maori sovereignty recognised over New Zealand and the Tiriti o Waitangi to cede to Britain the remaining territories “still occupied” by tangata maori. Documents held in the NSW Supreme Court show tangata maori had sold 2/3 of New Zealand before the Treaty was signed.

The Women’s Suffrage Petition was a milestone in women gaining the right to vote and deserves recognition, but it still had nothing to do with our Constitution or New Zealand becoming a British Colony under one flag and one law, irrespective of race, colour or creed. This was achieved by the Charters of 1839 and 1840

The One New Zealand Foundation Inc. has spent over 30 years researching New Zealand’s history and we have found many parts have either been overlooked by previous researchers or today’s researchers are just too lazy to do their own research and follow the “sheeple before them like lambs to the slaughter”!

The One New Zealand Foundation Inc. researched the final draft of the Treaty in 1990 which was named the Littlewood Treaty and found it was Lt. Governor Hobson’s final draft written by James Busby that was translated into the Tiriti of Waitangi by the Rev Henry Williams and his son Edward. But Dr Claudia Orange stated, “It was just another translation of the Maori version by an unknown author”, and most believed her. It took others 14 years to realise it was the final draft that went missing soon after it was read to the gathering at Waitangi on the 5th February 1840. By then too late as the government had organised its $6.5 million Treaty 2U Exhibition to destroy the Final Draft in the public’s eye, the only true record of what the Treaty really said.

We have recently stated the Treaty was signed by tangata Maori and not tangata whenua, something many researchers are still trying to prove when in fact over 500 tangata Maori chiefs agreed they were tangata Maori when the signed the Treaty so why waste time on something over 500 tangata Maori chiefs freely admitted.

Our latest research shows Queen Victoria’s Royal Charter/Letters Patent dated the 16 November 1840 was our true Founding Document and first Constitution that the government and Te Papa completely ignores, but many of our researchers still insist the Treaty is our Founding Document including our Governor General. How can it be when all it did was place New Zealand under the control of New South Wales until Britain made New Zealand into a British Colony in its own right with a political, legal and justice system under one flag and one law, irrespective of race colour or creed.

Wake up you modern day researchers and authors, New Zealand research has advanced since the likes of Dr Claudia Orange, Lyndsay T Buick, Dr Peter Adams, Keith Sinclair, James Belich and many others that wrote of their research they completed 50 to 100 years ago. Things have changed and you need to catch up. History never changes but further research can change what researcher thought 50 to 100 years ago.

I see Angela Lansbury, full points to her, has set off the usual furore – ” Women must accept some blame for sexual harassment and abuse because they “go out of their way to make themselves attractive” to men (note the ‘to men’ is not part of her quoted speech)… There are two sides to this coin. We have to own up to the fact that women, since time immemorial, have gone out of their way to make themselves attractive. And unfortunately it has backfired on us – and this is where we are today. We must sometimes take blame, women. I really do think that. Although it’s awful to say we can’t make ourselves look as attractive as possible without being knocked down and raped,” the 92-year-old told Radio Times.

It provoked the usual response – Rape Crisis England & Wales… said in a statement: “It is a deeply unhelpful myth that rape and other forms of sexual violence are caused or ‘provoked’ by women’s sexuality or ‘attractiveness’. Rape is an act of sexual violence, power and control that has little to nothing to do with sexual desire. It is as insulting to men as it is to anyone to suggest they’re unable to take responsibility for their own behaviours and that the way a woman presents herself can cause them to lose control or force them to sexually harass or assault her. There is no excuse or mitigation for sexual violence and there is no circumstance in which it’s even partially the victim’s or survivor’s fault. Until we accept and acknowledge that, it will be very difficult for us as a society to reduce or prevent rape, sexual assault, sexual harassment or sexual abuse.”

I agree with both. What needs to be accepted and acknowledged is that sexuality is all about power and control, always has been, and is throughout nature. Primarily, biologically, it’s about control of the gene pool. Socially, it’s always been about control of the ‘tribe’. Women (and men) make themselves ‘attractive’ to others to enhance their power – whether physically, socially, emotionally, politically, economically – or whatever the currency is. Just look at how Jacinda rose to power.

Modern human beings persist in romanticising it and constantly confuse it with ‘love’. There’s no dispute it’s better if it involves a caring, nurturing, mutual relationship and that the opposite in rape and assault is deeply damaging to all concerned – making the former the most successful option for social mutuality and cohesiveness and personal health and wellbeing – more particularly for ensuring those things for progeny both biologically and emotionally.

That doesn’t change the fact that it is all about power; that how people handle sexuality and relationship reflects deeply and inevitably how they handle power – over themselves and over others.

So what Lansbury might have said is that ‘women have to acknowledge that they are completely committed to playing their side of the ‘power game’, which experience has taught them is generally best advised through passive aggression, given that they will often come off second best on a physical level in conflict with men – ‘often’ because they have their own abusers, if much less often reported. They don’t get a free pass by portraying their comparative passivity as being without ‘power’ or being ‘powerless’.

Rape Crisis might have said ‘Until we accept and acknowledge that all sexuality is about power, the latter needing to be managed caringly, responsibly, and appropriately on both personal and social levels, it will be impossible for us as a society to reduce or prevent rape, sexual assault, sexual harassment or sexual abuse.’ – by either sex, irrespective of gender orientation.
