So Adrian Orr is the new Reserve Bank Governor, ready to take a big pay cut for the good of the country.
Oh, who was the last guy to do that? Oh……..ummmmm………. errrrr…..was it John Key?
Orr vs. Robbo is going to be fun to watch, but at least the main guy in charge of the country’s finances has an economic brain.

As thanks for taking over the Labour Cinderella’s role incognito.
Which one will be considered the worse PM in memory.
Presumably inducted by her other special Margaret Wilson.

        So stupid, and a fool on something so easily checked.

        Minor correction: – Gould was vice-chancellor not chancellor; and that was two VCs ago way back in the days of Helen Clark. The current VC is Neil Quigley and the one before that was Roy Crawford.
        Gould’s shit must really stink if the smell is still hanging around the University after all these years. The Chancellor is Jim Bolger.

      Yes, Fat Studies is now a thing, along with all manner of other ‘studies’ and ‘theory’. As an academic and the son of an academic I have an association with universities going back to my childhood. Nowadays I feel a little like I imagine a citizen of Rome must have felt after Alaric and his Visigoths had sacked the city.
      
      The university I knew still exists in enclaves, mostly in mathematics and the physical sciences, but even they are not immune to the pernicious and increasingly pervasive influence of post-modernism and cultural Marxism. On campuses in the US, these barbarians now literally riot every time a speaker with whom they disagree accepts an invitation to their universities.
      
      It’s easy to laugh at fools like Cat Pause and her idiotic faux-scholarship, and laugh we should. However there’s a very damn serious side to all of this – generations of impressionable young people are being ‘educated’ by twits like Pause. It’s resulting in a disturbing trend towards censorship of ideas as ‘hate speech’ and indoctrination into the kind of identity politics that now permeates the MSM. And now, the New Zealand taxpayer will foot the full bill for our youth to be indoctrinated to think nonsense such as that being morbidly obese is healthy and normal and that there’s “no such thing as biological sex”. (Google it if you don’t believe me.)
      
      I’m with the Canadian Professor of Psychology Jordan Peterson when he argues that universities should have their funding seriously cut, to force them to decide what they want to be – places that foster the never-ending search for truth, or places that value equality of outcome above all else, seeking to tear down the very civilisation that they have contributed to building over the centuries. I’d be prepared for that to cost me my job if it meant that the university I knew and loved could be saved.

        If you look at NZ universities you will see that the postmodern nonsense you quite rightly complain about was never as deeply rooted here as it is in the US. Partly this is because the so called “liberal arts” subjects have never been as influential here as they have traditionally been in North America.
        
        Student loans have meant that our students are a lot more vocationally focused, and the funding model used in NZ over a long period has also funded arts subjects at a lower level. With money comes power within the institution, and the craziest disciplines don’t have much of either in NZ universities these days.
        
        There have also been many redundancies in NZ universities in recent years and the political fruitloops, who were academically weak for the most part, took the brunt of it. There are not many of them left.
        
        So while you will find plenty of examples of individual fruitloopery and a lot of Labour party lovers in NZ Universities, you won’t find quite the same degree of institutional insanity that they have in North America.

    Colin James has just rated Helen Clark as the best PM in the last 50 years. He takes the period as being the post Holyoake era. So effectively starting in 1972, which is in fact 45 years.
    
    Mind you his latest articles make almost no effort to conceal his bias against National, and John Key in particular.
    
    Anyway the list of PM’s in chronological order are:
    Norm Kirk, 1972 to 1974
    Bill Rowling, 1974 to 1975
    Rob Muldoon, 1975 to 1984
    David Lange, 1984 to 1989
    Geoffrey Palmer, 1989 to 1990
    Mike Moore, 1990
    Jim Bolger, 1990 to 1997
    Jenny Shipley, 1997 to 1999
    Helen Clark, 1999 to 2008
    John Key, 2008 to 2016
    Bill English, 2016 to 2017
    Jacinda Ardern, 2017 to …
    
    So 12 PM’s in contention. Any reasonable assessment would put Helen Clark in the top 3, along with Jim Bolger and John Key. Bolger’s reputation has gone up in recent years. The left remain in love with Kirk, so they put him right up there, even though he virtually collapsed the economy.
    
    The left do not give John Key any credit for getting NZ through the GFC (and the earthquakes) in better shape than just about any other OECD nation.
    
    Jacinda, along with the rest of the contemporary left, seem to think growth is automatic and is immune from any shift in government policy. Therefore they do not give John Key any credit. That theory is about to be tested!

        In my list, the longer serving PM’s do best. All three won 3 elections, so the public must have thought they were doing something right. But Muldoon does not get in the top 3. His last term was a complete disaster.

      How one views a PM probably depends in large part how one views a government.
      
      The David Lange government had a big impact on how life is for us now mainly because of Roger Douglas I suppose. Where would we be if Muldoon had stayed in power? If the Lange government hadn’t tipped the world as we knew it then on it’s head how would the leaders since be judged now?
      
      I think it’s too early in history to get a proper perspective on John Key and methinks in time a more balanced consideration of the Key years will see agreement by most that he was one of the good ones.

        I agree the Lange government was the most influential in my lifetime, though I largely give the credit to for that to Douglas, Prebble and Moore. They are the ones who really drove the reforms. Nevertheless it does put Lange high on any list.
        
        Of course the order of such lists are highly debatable. It is easier to put PM’s in brackets, say top third, middle third and bottom third, rather than in a precise order which is likely to be coloured by ones own political perceptions.

        Muldoon’s first two terms were good, far better than most others where as Clark’s were never good and only blind idiocy, very poor opponents and serious bribes got her three terms.
        
        I still don’t know how Bolger got re-elected even once given the damage he did (both with MMP and ToW) to NZ.
        
        Key gets a plus for managing the economy in problematic times, that plus being cancelled out by the inaction in not getting rid of the cash distribution schemes of the previous govt.

        Hardly Tinman. 66% marginal tax rate at $22,000. 55% and 48% rates. Carless days. Managed exchange rate. Import tariffs and tax incentives that encouraged capital investment in uncompetitive industries. SMPs. Tax incentives that created rort industries.         I agree with Wayne M. that Lange’s Government had the greatest influence for the longer term. But not because of Lange, who had to be dragged screaming and kicking.
        
        Douglas, Prebble and Moore were indeed the ones who did ‘the hard yards’, economically and philosophically, while Lange rattled a few populist cages with his anti-nuclear (anti-USA?) and other distractions.

Happily for the then credible New Zealand Herald, he took the hint (neither Hardingham, Chappel nor/and Scherer would not accept his crap) and went. But his red spots remained and now he mixes them into his sanctimonious and skewed commentary like over-ripe cherries. Worse is his use of so called “private (client to Labour) URM “surveys into his self promoted poll of polls – poll which forms the basis of all Red Radio news coverage.

      Norm Kirk was actually one of the 3 worst PMs in NZ history. When he came to power inflation was an issue but a single digit problem. When he died it was a double digit problem that ravaged our standard of living for the next two decades and ripped the country apart. He inherited a current account surplus and left a double digit deficit (not to mention the government books). Muldoon simply kept up Labour’s spending.

      That is not actually true despite the constant repetition here and on mainly atheist forums.
      
      December 25 is nine months after March 25, ie period of gestation of a baby.
      
      March 25 is the date of the Incarnation and the ancient date given to when God made the world.
      
      It’s more likely that paganism was drawn to mid-winter because that would be the time that Christ would eventually be born. Anything that significant would have caused ripples for a long time beforehand.

    I’m always amused when I see people ‘panic’ buying around Xmas and Easter. It’s almost like there’s a siege coming. So much stuff is crammed into trolleys, it’s unbelievable! We make a very sensible list based on what’s going to be on the menu. We’ve got it down to a fine art after years of practice. Our families all contribute to the dinner table. So there is very little wastage. It’s all about thinking it through and planning accordingly. Some, however, are unable to keep it simple but delicious!!

      I won’t be planting trees and having a ‘Green’ Christmas- I’ll be giving my kids as many presents as I can..and enjoying every minute watching them opening!
      
      I can’t understand the Left’s need to attack every Western Cultural Tradition.
      Could you imagine a miserable Labour/Green Christmas? A day spent planting trees and exchanging gifts made from twigs and leaves followed by a finger wagging Christmas Message/lecture from Jacinda on ‘Poverdy and Inequality’ while you tuck into your Vegan Christmas Dinner..

        I’ll be working – as I have done for the last 15 Xmas days. Xmas dinner in that time has usually consisted of a cheese and marmite sandwich.
        
        To me Xmas day is just another bloody day where everything is closed

    Demand greater than supply = high prices.
    Auckland – they are not making any more land (that will clearly come as a surprise to you), demand out strips supply. Prices go up. Its not a bubble, its basic economics. Even if demand falls toward or below supply, the fall in prices will not be significant as there is no more land.

      Take that value, and double it every 8 years (which is the global average for real-estate appreciation.)
      I’m sure you will be surprised to find the result is pretty close to the average price today.

    Wrong – he has not forgotten about the oldies – his main campaign focus is rest home, Grey Power etc meetings – they still think he is marvellous for defending the superannuation, Super Gold Card etc.
    Labour could well provide an extra boost to superannuation in April to compensate for the to be cancelled tax cuts.

It appears there are two levels: severe poverty, and material hardship.
Ardern needs to precisely define each and give totals for each.

This morning Ardern also revealed she hoped to get bi-partisan agreement over child poverty – Ardern plans to set a target to reduce child poverty and has called to “take the politics out of poverty.”

Again, to have any meaningful “conversation” needs a precise definition and totals to start with.
Otherwise it is fairy dust and Ms Universe bumper sticker slogans.

  There is no “poverty” in NZ. We have a well funded, functioning social welfare system that provides food, clothing and shelter. By definition therefore, poverty cannot exist in this country.
  Give the World Bank’s definition of moderate poverty is living on less than $3.10USD per day, and a beneficiary in NZ gets between $141 and $395 per week depending on age and circumstance, the same applies. There IS no poverty in NZ. Therefore, we do not have to waste time and resources fixing a problem that does not exist.

  It is unlikely that the Nats would set up a phony party. However, the could gift a seat to either the Conservative Party if they could improve polling. They could also do a deal with Shane Jones if he leads NZF. He would of course have to agree to go with them.

Officials refuse to release any test results proving it was botulism which afflicted the Waikato family who ate a wild boar, even under OIA. Yesterday an article ran in Stuff with the headline “Family struck down with botulism” yet in the article itself they make this admission “At this stage there are no test results showing that it is botulism”. Wait…what? How is that any different to running a headline “Husband murders wife” and then printing “there is no evidence that the husband murdered his wife”. They would get strung up for that.

All the meat has now been destroyed by “public health officials”. No test for any other toxin was done prior to destroying the meat, including sodium fluroacetate or any of it’s toxic derivatives.

Why would “public health officials” destroy evidence prior to any conclusive test results?

Unless they have something to hide.

  Some circumstantial evidence that the illness was botulism related is in the fact they (relatively) rapidly responded to anti-botulism toxin treatment. They can’t say that the ‘fresh’ wild pork was the source, and circumstances as we currently know suggest that is in fact an unlikely source. Was it freshly killed? We only have the say so of one of the victims so far. What else did they eat or add to the pork that hasn’t been revealed publicly? Maybe something illegally brought into the country?
  
  Also, they will have kept samples from those sent for testing in Australia in storage here still, even if the actual meat itself has been destroyed.

    We have been fed a story that the folks had eaten fresh wild boar… but that doesn’t make sense…
    as the botulism bacteria would not have had time to breed up and produce toxins in the meat.
    
    It seems most likely that if the folks truly have been exposed to botulism, they have eaten contaminated meat.
    That meat would have been been poorly prepared or incorrectly frozen and consequently been contaminated for weeks/ months.
    
    I very much doubt that MSM reporters have any knowledge whatsoever of home-kill practices or dodgy meat sellers.

Recently been chewing over the “child poverty” thing and why since the election there has been a noticeable reduction in the amount of these stories appearing in the media especially since we are coming up to Xmas where usually daily we have an expose of families who have no presents, can’t afford Xmas dinner blah blah blah.
So I can only come up with 3 explanations why:
1.Child poverty no longer exists.
–No that is not credible.
2.The media was against the government in the run up to the election.
–Certain sections of it were but on the whole I don’t really think that was the case.
3.The individuals and associated sympathetic groups who were shopping these stories to the media are now the ones in government.
–Personally I believe this gets to the heart of the matter. Now the pushers of these stories are in power it is no longer in their interests to get them published as it will make them look bad hence they have largely disappeared.
Unfortunately the media got sucked in and could not see the child poverty campaign for what it really was.

A TV hostess scorned: Megyn Kelly targets Donald Trump, interviewing three women accusing him of various levels of inappropriate behaviour.

One woman talked about an alleged incident on a plane years ago. No corroboration. Wasn’t very convincing. Why no complaint at the time?

A second was a beauty pageant contestant, whose complaint was on this level:

“He just looked me up and down like [I] was just like a piece of meat, that I wasn’t a person with a brain. It left me feeling very gross.”

The third was a secretary who alleges Trump held on to her hand too long then kissed her. Mmm.

    Gropers have been around for ages. There was one prominent New Zealander – from Christchurch – no woman wanted to sit beside at a function because he was notorious for fondling knees etc. He got a knighthood for his good work for sport and the community, and people just regarded his wandering hands as a weakness. So many people knew, and looked out for others who didn’t know of his penchant, he probably did less harm to others than he would have by, say, heavily smoking cigarettes.
    
    The present surge of accusations resembles mass hysteria, a dam busting. The level at which offence is taken is diving. And the witch-hunters are finding new men-beasts almost every day.

I’ve been celebrating the recent fall of many Lefty idols in the media complex under a deluge of allegations of sexual abuse – the sort of shit they’ve flung at Righties forever, the farcical “War on Women” in 2012 for example – when they weren’t telling the Right that they were Victorian prudes – “squares” – hung up about sex.

But I’ve also been well aware of the witchhunt nature of the process and the eerie similarities between this episode and the events of The Terror following the French Revolution, not to mention Stalin’s show trials and purges in the 1930’s and Mao’s Cultural Revolution, with its empowered “struggle sessions”.

And now there is further evidence of this mentality within the Left:

Garrison Keillor has been disappeared into the Memory Hole. If you look for his biography or the archived shows from a half century of “A Prairie Home Companion” on the website of Minnesota Public Radio since his fall from grace, you’ll now find only this: “Sorry, but there’s no page here.”

Keillor and his entire body of work from “A Prairie Home Companion” and “Writer’s Almanac” have been effectively erased from the archives of MPR, along with the work of all the other storytellers, singers, poets and production staff who made the shows successful.

Note that this has not been done by his “enemies” on the Right, but by the very people he championed and hung out with for 50 years. Art should be able to be separated from the artist, but in the Left-wing world of “everything is political”, it can’t be. It prompted this comment from Rod Dreher:

I hear from readers who grew up in Communist countries, and who tell me that they sense more and more the same atmosphere of their youth coming into existence here. This erasing of Keillor and his enormous and valuable creative legacy from history has to be setting off their internal alarms.

  Let’s hope NASA has learned the lesson of the Obama years and will simply lay out a full contract with a number of companies to get the job done – rather than simply contracting them to build individual bits that NASA puts together and plans and trains for as in the glory days of Apollo.
  
  That worked well – but it worked far less well in the case of the Space Shuttle and the ISS.
  
  One of the few good things that came from the Obama Administration was that they largely forced NASA to shut down its failing efforts at building rockets and spacecraft and made it simply ask for jobs to be done on it’s behalf – like supplying the ISS – and letting the private sector get on with it. The result has been, among other companies, SpaceX, which has produced rockets and a launching system literally many times cheaper than NASA said it could be done for. SpaceX is the cheapest in the world, and is actually getting cheaper. Ten years ago it was thought that the USA would continue to lose the launch market to China and Europe. Now they’re ones worrying about their share in the face of SpaceX‘s relentless improvements – and its US competitors.
  
  Unfortunately the wonderful spoils system built by LBJ in the 1960’s to protect the Apollo program from being defunded – whereby NASA’s money is spread around key Congressional districts and Senate states – continues to live on and has produced the Space Launch System, the SLS (otherwise known as the Senate Launch System). The SLS is a gigantic rocket, larger than the Saturn V that sent Apollo to the moon, and it is years behind schedule, billions over budget, and actually has no missions scheduled for it. Test launches might happen in 2019, but there’s no money for more than a couple of flights per year beyond that – and no idea what they would do anyway. Lunar missions might be one answer, but if I was Trump I’d be damned wary of putting that much control into NASA’s hands ever again.

  Turn to two companies in particular—Elon Musk’s SpaceX and Robert Bigelow’s Bigelow Aerospace. Why? Because the approach that NASA’s acting administrator Robert Lightfoot is pushing won’t allow a Moon landing.
  
  Lightfoot’s problem lies in the two pieces of NASA equipment he wants to work with: a rocket that’s too expensive to fly and is years from completion—the Space Launch System; and a capsule that’s far from ready to carry humans—the Orion. Neither the SLS nor the Orion are able to land on the Moon. Let me repeat that. Once these pieces of super-expensive equipment reach the moon’s vicinity, they cannot land.
  
  Who is able to land on the lunar surface? Elon Musk and Robert Bigelow. Musk’s rockets—the Falcon and the soon-to-be-launched Falcon Heavy—are built to take off and land. So far their landing capabilities have been used to ease them down on earth. But the same technology, with a few tweaks, gives them the ability to land payloads on the surface of the Moon. Including humans. What’s more, SpaceX’s upcoming seven-passenger Dragon 2 capsule has already demonstrated its ability to gentle itself down to earth’s surface. In other words, with a few modifications and equipment additions, Falcon rockets and Dragon capsules could be made Moon-ready.

      For at least three reasons.
      
      First, to stay this time and actually explore the place. We’re talking about an area roughly the size of Africa and we’ve explored a tiny fraction of it in the six Apollo landings. If you don’t explore then you don’t discover things, which is what has pushed humanity forward. I don’t agree with those folk who think we can just sit on earth and navel gaze. Aside from the practical aspects of species-survival driving us to settle more than one planet, I think exploration is crafted into our genetics; trying to not do it would be “not human”.
      
      Second, because it enables humanity to test out a lot of things needed for further exploration and exploitation of the solar system – like going to Mars. There’s been quite a push in recent years (Elon Musk is one example) to just go to Mars direct; it’s a more interesting place and in theory, habitable in a way the moon is not. But the moon is just 2-3 days away if something goes wrong, and it enables a lot of stuff like manufacturing, fuel production and other resource extraction to be done. Yes, it’s going from one gravity well to another, shallower one – but free-floating with asteroids has its drawbacks too.
      
      Third: it’s been almost 50 years since the Apollo missions and society has grown much richer in that time. The proportion of wealth needed now is vastly smaller than in the 1960’s (it once reached 7 cents per American per year for a couple of years), and can actually be done more cheaply now anyway (see SpaceX). Depending on how it’s done, there is no reason why it would even cost as much as the damned ISS. We’ve done a lot of robotic stuff and will do more, but it’s time for humans to return. Not as a “flags-and-footprints” set of missions: that would be a failure. But robotic missions are limited, not by the technology but by the fact that each mission has to be designed around no more than one or two objectives. Humans are adaptable and flexible in ways robots are not – and ultimately this is a human drive and goal.

        False dichotomy. It isn’t necessarily go to the moon or nothing. First, and as you later acknowledge, if solar system exploration is the goal, you could go direct. Second, you could look at further developing space station technology (which would be far less expensive to service, better mimic conditions for deep space travel, and might have advantages as a staging site).

For all that the ISS gives us better knowledge of deep space travel, the whole aspect of landing and carving out a base with recycling plus some resource extraction plus power supply, is something that would be much safer to extensively test on the moon where a systems failure means a short trip back to earth. Same applies to testing various engines.
        
        Even with the ISS we’re not going to be able to learn such things and it’s never going to be a base from which other missions are launched anywhere. It’s really only useful in terms of learning about the impact of zero-gee on the human body, which we already knew three decades ago was bad enough that centrifuges would be needed for long-duration space flight.
        
        Frankly I regard the ISS as more of a waste of money than a Lunar base – but I’m still glad we did it. Setting up a series of Mars explorer missions – as in The Martian – might be a good compromise, but they’d be even more expensive than lunar missions. Quelle Surprise. Provisional opinion reported that the Ombudsman is not going to require the release of the governments secret coallition document. Has anyone in NZ ever made a complaint to the Ombudsman or Auditor General about maladministration, or dodgy local government process or financials, and actually had it upheld by any of our supposed watchdogs.

Not currently a customer of the Lines Company, but have properties that are. I just got a bill for vacant time of 4 days. 26$. Ridiculous I said for it to be so high.
I was informed that the company rounds anything up to the quarter, so my four days got charged as sevenish and they charged the tenants for some of that also.

No wonder they have a bad reputation, still gets put down to infrastructure apparently.

What a rort.

  Why should parents have any say on National Standards ? it is the Teacher’s Unions who politically control our children’s education.
  It is nor their fault that New Zealand is falling quite hard by international education standards.
  Can’t be rotten teachers and there are more of them than many good ones now.
  Their standards are poor as teachers.
  Still a cushy number though despite their moaning. Most finished teaching (sic) a couple of weeks ago and will not see a school for a couple of months – on full pay.

    Totally agree, they are whining, lazy beggars (showing restraint there). Teach senior classes and you are off from early november – go back early Feb, then have all the other holidays throughout the year, so a total of about 4 months off every year on full pay. Don’t any teachers dare tell me they work in the holidays. I worked in a high school for many years. The most you ever saw of a teacher was for about a week before the year started. They bleat about being poor but quite a few owned holiday homes and heaps traveled overseas in the breaks. They mainly drive bombs but that’s what lefties do….can’t spoil the image! They then have the utter temerity to close the school down for Teacher Only Days. How and why they have been allowed to get away with that beggars belief.

  This is always an issue when mixing cultures.
  
  In Western cultures, alms for the poor is generally well understood to mean that generous folk are giving stuff for the truly needy. Sure, take it if you really need it, but don’t take it if you don’t really need it and some degree of personal restraint is expected.
  
  In other cultures any free stuff is just there for the taking.
  
  Come Christmas day they’ll be back for the free Christmas dinner, because it’s a good feed and you don’t even have to do the cooking and washing up.

What a complete and utter clustershambles in the House this afternoon (a cross between an omnishambles and a clusterf*ck and worse by far than either). Stuart Nash stood up to introduce a Bill for First Reading, then sat down. Mallard put the motion, that the Bill be read a first time, then wouldn’t allow Nash to give his first reading speech because by sitting down, he had forfeited the call.

Unsurprisingly, the National Party thinks it’s a huge joke, and it is. But it’s also a worry that Labour ministers have such a poor grasp of basic parliamentary procedure and etiquette. They are shaping up to be the most shambolic government I can recall in the 50-odd years I have had an active interest in New Zealand politics.

  The fuckers are there, burning through $500k an hour to work for us, not to sledge eachother or catch eachother out with archane rules.
  
  It is not in the public’s interests to have stopped Nash from reading his Bill.
  
  Mallard should be running the house for the best interests of the people that pay the bills.
  
  In any other situation people would have worked around this little confusion to do their jobs – part of which is the introduction of Bills.

  Primo KS. Mallard has turned into a circus like act and seems always in a rush to move on. Nash showed his lack of ability as he tried to get it started and lacks the ability to add a bit of preamble as the other members left the chamber. It was surely welcomed by Steven Joyce as he quickly rose to speak to the motion of the first piece of real business to be raised in the House so far. A National bill as he made point of mentioning in his usual manner.
  Many take advantage of the service of On Demand coverage from the NZ Parliamnent web page but it is live streamed by TV1 which surely exposes the shambolic performance to the masses. Looking forward to Thursday being the best yet to come and the last for this year. Popcorn will be fresh and plentyfull and might invite the family just like the old days when test matches were in the small hours. Even Trotter is seeing the silly side of their performance.

Hi everyone.

A quick update on Reid:

After leaving the matter for a couple of weeks, I’ve just tried to call his number again. (For those not in the know, I invited feedback from Kiwiblog readers a few weeks ago as to whether I should or shouldn’t do this, and the consensus seemed to be that I should and find out if he’s ok.)

His number is now disconnected. When I tried previously, his number was connected but rang out.

Reid has been a long-term member of the Kiwiblog community, going back to at least 2005 when I first joined, and while he had his detractors, I feel sad that he’s no longer commenting here. I’d feel just as sad if certain other people (who I won’t name!) were to stop commenting.

I hope this doesn’t mean something bad has happened to Reid. Johnboy has met him in real life, as I understand it, and may know more. But, from my perspective, I can’t take the matter any further.

He opened the Door, and there was a little angel with a great big Christmas tree. The angel said, very cheerfully, “Merry Christmas, Santa. Isn’t it a lovely day? I have a beautiful tree for you. Where would you like me to stick it?”

And so began the tradition of the little angel on top of the Christmas tree
