SO WHY DOES STEPHEN HAWKING NOT GET RIDICULED FOR BEING SH*T AT FOOTBALL?’
      (Guess which trio of nutter ladies will get given those last two?)

Is there going to be a backlash against the #MeToo movement over the coming years.

Some studios will overcompensate, as seen with the latest Star Wars episodes crowbarring actresses and minorities into the script for no gain to the story. In fact, most positive reviews are based on the count of female characters rather than the storyline.

Surely some studios will avoid trouble by going back to the old days and having a total male cast and production crew. This avoids any converstaions 15 years later that you looked at her funny are brushed against her deliberately.

If this creates more Shawshank Redemptions and less Big Little Lies then the world would surely benefit.

  I just have a problem thinking that those who have allowed themselves to be fondled, groped and shagged for mega-Buck wages have not been part of the problem.

    A clear out of certain individuals appears to be the end game for the movement. Like it or not, there will be a vacuum of talent left in Hollywood that they’ll be obliged to fill with less talented but more diverse individuals. This can only result in more Big Little Lies being produced.

    Can’t agree with you there – it’s the slippery slope to the islamist way of calling women who don’t cover up ‘whores’. I love a society in which women are free and beautiful and some, indeed, very sexy. Nothing wrong with that.
    
    Come on, was Marilyn Monroe a ‘whore’ for her portrayal of Lorelei Lee in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes?

        But a disgrace that it beat out ‘Pulp Fiction’ for the Oscar for Best Picture in 1995. FG’s director, Robert Zemeckis also beat Quentin Tarantino for best director, but some 20+ years later there seems little doubt who had the bigger effect on cinema history courtesy of each movie. As you say ‘Forest Gump’ is feelgood and well-crafted, but not much else. Pulp Fiction, no matter whether you love it or loathe it is…genius. And not just by playing tricks with the narrative structure.
        
        Almost as bad a decision as ‘Rocky’ beating ‘Taxi Driver’ in 1977.

        …but then I seem to recall we jested a few years ago, before the wooden Leonardo DiCaprio was awarded best male actor Oscar for ‘The Revenant’, that if you do an “Auschwitz” (n ‘beautiful’ actor becoming emaciated and/or ugly for the role) and/or “a retard” (disability of some sort, especially mental) and they have to give it to you. 😉

    Not bad Biscuit. I would add Deliverance, Bataan (from the 1950’s), Good Morning Vietnam, The Poet’s Club – many others – particularly anything with Clint Eastwood – both acting and directing.
    Also Steve McQueen – Great Escape, and Bullit (cos I love fast cars – used to do motor-racing – and my son has a 1966 Mustang GT fully restored) 🙂

        I fear that Peter Jackson would have turned it in to a CGI-fest and lost some of the elements of the story. Having said that, I’d love to see a PJ war film (in that its one that he hasn’t done) – just not a remake of Dambusters as it would always be compared to the original.
        
        Maybe an original story about Crete, the desert war or the Amiens prison raid. Or possibly Cassino (which would have an international flavour).

    I guess that deciding which movies are “greats” I tend to think about those I want to retain in an active digital library that is space limited and cannot (unless someone can tell me how to do that) from a “My SKY HDI” to a back up system.
    
    That means that entertainment, for me anyway, tops all the pseudo intellectual BS movies that some people push.
    Of those listed by many above there are some very, very good ones. But of those screened on TV over the past five/six years only two have survived repeated screenings and re-evaluation over the months and still remain in the 50% memory that I reserve for long term storage – “The Shawshank Redemption”, and the “Godfather” (but Parts 1 and 2). I have also kept and from time to time review “Taken” and “Schindler’s List”.
    
    My evaluation of other movies is linked more to the leading actors – folk such as Gable, Leigh, Todd, Peck, Cooper, Welles, Douglas K, Heston (the latter probably more because I had dinner with him and his wife when they visited Wellington in the late 60s). The other consideration, perhaps that most important to me, is history.
    
    Ohhh, you might ask, what is on the rest of the 50% ?
    Simple – sport (noteworthy AB matches including two World Cups) and History Channel coverage of people and events from Rockefeller to to Churchill to Keith Murdoch’s (Rupert’s Daddy), to Normandy, The Bulge, the Pacific, Israel’s evolution and Vietnam.

        A long time ago when I had hair and a flat belly I was partying with friends at Sweet Waters in Ngaruawahia.
        We were passing around a reefer and sipping warm beer in our tent when all of a sudden the tent collapses.

    ztev, it would seem that problem solving is not one of your strong points.
    
    When there’s a problem there are often multiple ways to address it, each with pros and cons. For example to make roads safer we can reduce the speed limit, make sure cars are safe (WOF) and reduce drink driving. We don’t just choose one way to fix the problem.
    
    There are many ways to reduce illegal (ie. criminal) immigration, there is not just one way. If you apply all these methods then you will have better success than if you apply just one.
    
    * Cut down on hand outs to illegals. That’s the jam that attracts the wasps. Take away the jam and a lot of the wasps don’t even bother to come.
    
    * Putting up physical barriers (ie. build a wall) will help reduce influx from the people who go through the deserts – many of them dying and getting raped on the way.
    
    * Shut down sanctuary cities.
    
    * Repeal DACA. Why should the kids benefit from the crimes of their parents? If a bank robber’s kids can’t keep the money when the robber is arrested, then why should kids who got into Mexico illegally be given USA citizenship?
    
    If the other approaches are successful enough then they can reconsider building the wall.

I’ve taken to watching more cricket this summer and I’m always fascinated with the situation of a team engaged in the run chase, not doing well and the runs per over getting inexorably more impossible until the chasing team is finally all out and it’s game over.

It’s difficult not to compare Labour chasing a target of 10000 houses (runs) with 52 weeks (overs) in which to win or lose the game. According to the scoreboard Twyford’s XI is 2086 under the required run rate with just 36 overs to go. The asking rate has gone up from 200 runs per over to 277.

  I had a look at the school’s web site. People who apply for entry are not automatically accepted. They could have turned away this kid who is clearly not Christian.
  I note that the fees average out at about $5000 per annum, which suggests to me that the school is heavily subsidized either by a trust or more likely by the taxpayer in which case they probably signed up to rules & regulations that overrode their own ones.

This meant the test in the Overseas Investment Act – which covers whether a person is of good character – was not met.

      From a consumer device perspective, Apple has the primo market completely wrapped up, so not much point taking that on… for now anyway. While that lasts it is a waste of time trying to compete with Apple. Compete with Samsung etc. maybe.
      
      If Huawei cuts a deal with AT&T you can bet they would have to sell the phones to AT&T on a razor thin margin.
      
      Huawei are a lot more than just consumer handsets. They also sell a lot of infrastructure gear (cell tower kit, networking etc).

      I’ve been to Auschwitz to you know. I even looked at the crematoria facilities. If which there were 7 “exhibits” from the fully operational 14. Now let’s do some mental maths shall we.
      
      14 Crematorium x 3 per day (a body takes at least 8 hours to turn to ash) x 365 days x 2.45 years = less than 38,000 bodies turned to ash at Auschwitz. Let’s round it up to a generous 40k. Of course this assumes the crematorium was working around the clock with no downtime for maintenance and that 1940s technology was the equal of today.
      
      Where did all the remains go of the alleged 1 million (let alone the 4 million up until the 80s❗) go as there have never been any “mass graves” found?

        Most inmates died from disease and were cremated for hygiene reasons.
        
        Even the Israeli Prime Minister has admitted there was no extermination plan, though there was for the Russians, with over 25 million killed. It is worth noting Russia had the worlds biggest Jewish population at the time. The holocaust figure is arrived at by guessing the number of Jews before the war and making up another number after the war. If we applied this to other religions more Christians died !
        
        There were mass killing throughout the war. Jews were one of a number peoples targeted by the Nazi party.
        
        Either way, close to 70 million people died in the war. Only some of whom were Jews.

        The “6 million” number is from the Torah, and in fact was chosen as a way of seeming to fulfill a prophecy of the Jewish scriptures (“You shall return minus 6 million”) in order to justify the existence of Israel.
        
        The 6 million deaths were prophesied to be “burnt offerings” hence why “gas chambers” is a key part of the narrative…

      Well, Classic Liberal, I’ve seen more than enough evidence to know that the “Holocaust” did NOT happen. I assume you understand what the definition of the “Holocaust” is, but for other readers who may not know, it consists of three things:
      
      1) The Germans had a plan to exterminate the jews.
      2) They used “gas chambers” primarily, to exterminate the jews.
      3) They exterminated six million jews.
      
      Now, my research into this subject has shown me that there is no credible evidence whatsoever for any of those three things. Of course, there is indisputable evidence that jews were put into labour camps and that many tens of thousands died as a result of disease, etc., particularly near the end of the war when German infrastructure was severely damaged, etc.
      
      When I was a “Holocaust” believer, most of life, btw, I newer thought of “Holocaust deniers” as being crazy, I just thought of them as being mostly ideologically driven, misguided, or just hateful.
      
      It’s revealing that you label Monika Schaefer, and then EAD_TWO as “crazy”. It’s no doubt comforting to you to label people who hold reasoned yet controversial views about the “Holocaust” as “crazy” since it then removes the need for you to re-investigate their views, or doubt your own.
      
      I can assure you that Monika is not crazy, except if you want to label someone who is courageous enough to publicly go against jewish power and tell the world they are being lied to, as “crazy”. EAD_TWO has also done the same, except for going public.
      
      Now in my own case, I’ve never been accused of being crazy by anyone publicly when I’ve explained my disbelief in the “Holocaust”, no doubt because I have the benefit of being more knowledgeable than those who I have talked to on this subject. I’ve had people become upset and angry, but never accuse me of being “crazy”, to my face, at least.
      
      My point here is that the “crazy”, or similar, label is just weak. It may scare away people misinformed and uninformed on the subject, but not wash with those who have bitten the bullet and done their homework.

    Not SpaceX’s fault. The whole assembly above the second stage (including the payload, fairing, and interconnecting structure and release mounts) were built and integrated by other US govt contractors as a classified ‘black box’ that SpaceX’s employees wouldn’t see inside. SpaceX’s rocket worked just as it should have, but something in the supplied payload assembly didn’t.

The UN Committee Against Torture wants NZ to pay $20,000 to convicted murderer John Vogel. The reason is that, as a prisoner, he was kept in solitary confinement 23 hours a day for 21 days to help him deal with drug addiction. The maximum period of solitary allowed is 15 days.

Vogel murdered Mt Roskill man Peter Hoey, 47, in 1987, and was sentenced to to life in prison the following year.

He was released on parole a decade later, before being recalled to Auckland Prison at Paremoremo in 2000 after further offending, where he was then found guilty of drug charges.

        As the article I linked points out, the reason why the sharemarket is climbing at the moment it’s because Trump has delivered a windfall to US corporations.         Have a look.
        There’s no doubt that confidence in the US economy is very high at the moment.
        Lots of Polls confirm that.
        Personally I prefer other indicators than the Dow to look at the US economy.

  If Sheriff Joe ever wants a change of climate I for one would welcome him with open arms.
  
  Put him in charge of Corrections & Labour could close down half the prisons. He would make them so unlike the motels they currently are that criminals would have some incentive for rehabilitation.

    Lilley organised and carried out the strangling and stabbing “thrill kill” murder of Aaron Pajich on June 13, 2016, and his burial under a freshly tiled patio in the yard of the house she shared with Lenon, dubbed “Elm Street”.
    
    The “Lenon” is Trudi Lenon. She was hospitalised last week after a boiling water attack by a fellow inmate.
    
    On Monday, as Lenon waited in line to receive medication, a female inmate poured freshly boiled water over her back, shoulders, breasts, neck, arms and fingers, causing severe burns.
    
    Prominent boxer Danny Green praised the attack:

  Good varied diet plus exercise is one component. I have two friends that followed that regime as a daily lifestyle, both died of pancreatic cancer. Damn bad luck as well.

Tip for all you gung-ho chaps always carry a roll of electrical tape on you when hunting. I once cut my shin open when turning a stag over without putting my knife down. I also cut through three of my left hand knuckles while delving into the lung cavity of another one. Good old electrical tape did the trick. Without it you lucky folk would not be able to read my words of wisdom today! 🙂

I just watched Trump on Fox on a bi-partisan debate about the wall and immigration with the media there for about an hour. He certainly is not needing a shrink. He was in control but allowed the Democrats to have their say without interrupting.
