The strange Trump Pro Israel and anti semitic stance,

One of the more curious aspects of the Trump era is the manner in which the administration pursues both a rabid pro Israel policy and a rabid anti semitism that is rife among a great many of his supporters . Even a President who has himself eluded to this especially against his political enemies . We were reminded of this during the election campaign when there were almost an avalanche of anti-semitic tweets and out burst of the same by Trump’s election campaign organisation . A focus was often directed at allegations against Billionaire George Soros and other Jewish related conspiracies . This included vehement attacks against Jewish Liberal Journalists and the nefarious and undue Jewish influence over Hillary Clinton with the well known Star of David superimposed over her and stacks of billion of dollars .

  We’ve already got specialist jurors……they’re called judges although you only get one per trial.
  
  Don’t interfere with what we’ve got. The twelve laymen who make up the jury are the last surviving touch of reality left in a “justice” system overfull with suits & procedures.
  
  Occasionally they even produce verdicts involving justice instead of law.

    The problem with the existing system is that the Judge gets to say what the jury is allowed to hear. With a specialist jury comprised with one judge and other experts say accountants or scientists depending on the case they would hear everything and decide what is relevant and what is not.

      Being trained in Science is no guarantee that you can see the “truth” of any matter.
      
      James Randi the sceptic magician showed in the 1980s that the easiest people to fool are scientists.
      
      If you attend Environment Court hearings, you will often find scientists and other experts arguing from opposite ends of a spectrum of possibilities.
      
      We’ve got an imperfect system…. my philosophy is to avoid Lawyers and Courts at all costs.

        Maggy, any scientist should be able to work out probability. A scientist is not more or less able to tell is someone is telling the truth my their facial expression or a nervous reaction than a judge.
        
        One former judge who was head of the parole board who released a killer who murdered one person and wounded another on the hills near Wellington admitted that.
        
        If a person is an evil killer they have often have learned to lie very convincingly. Judges like jurors should first look at evidence and know how to combine it. If it is clear that the masked criminal was 2 metres tall and left handed would they know you should multiply the odds to get an overall probability?
        
        Obviously half the population is above average IQ and half below. Suppose that is reflected in the average jury which may not be the case what are the odds of no juror above average IQ?

  The last thing we need is to expand the ranks of the professionally opinionated and outraged.
  
  If anything we need people who are actually contributing to the great social contract to be the only ones allowed to sit on juries. These days the vast majority of peeps sitting on juries are from the indigent classes (anyone with a job or an ounce of common sense can find a way to not do jury service and accordingly do not).

  1) wait till they see a car approaching at overtaking speed behind them
  2) swiftly pull out as the car is just behind them (normally indicating one second after moving into the outside lane)
  3) then slowly accelerating to 99kph
  4) to creep, glacially past the car in front (often matching speed with the nana or 18 wheel semi trailer) to cruise alongside for several kms

The following race carnival arrived – and went. The old nag fell further and further behind, the crowds departed, the stewards turned out the lights and the decrepit horse crossed the finishing line in the dark. And the old sage decreed “HANDICAPPED OLD HORSE – HANDICAPPED JOCKEY.”

The fire continued to smoulder, and soon the jockey became aware of the impending arrival of a new filly. Unable to take her place in the Derby lineup, she relinquished her ride, and her negotiation partner took his place at the starting gate. There was more merriment.

      I think a more sensible position is that we will see. None of these events is complete yet, but I think
      1/ Brexit is good for UK economy as will allow them to select their immigrants and reduce fallout from the future failure of the Euro.
      2/ Trump is a wait and see, so far so good, but markets are at unsustainable highs (nearing 30:1 P/E) and so a major collapse is pretty sure to arrive soon, and govt deficit is appalling – could blow out to >6% this year.
      3/ Labour have made a lot of very bad choices in their first 100 days, with nothing to help the economy, and a lot to hurt it. Tax and spend always does damage. Growth will tank, and we almost certainly see a major recession within their short time in parliament. And another generation of kiwis will learn the lesson of how badly the left wing fucks things up when given power.

    Progress report on the six brand spanking new HNZ apartments completed seven weeks ago a couple of blocks away from me. The lounge blinds were installed this week…..that’s it. Presumably six families are languishing in old cars, garages or rack- rent ‘lodges’ awaiting more final touches to be completed.
    
    HNZ bureaucracy either needs a rocket from Twyford (oh hang on, ztev says he’s not allowed to do that) or the crisis is an imaginary one. Or are they being held for ‘refugees’?

  The reason chlorine is added to water is because it is harmful (ie. kills) the organisms that might get into the water.
  
  That’s why it is also added to pools etc. It is essentially the same as Janola.
  
  Do we really need chlorine in Chch? I doubt it.
  
  BTW: It is easy enough to remove the chlorine from home drinking water with under-bench filters etc.

It will be a interesting speech from Winston Peters when opening the Katana yearling sales today. Auckland Racing Club CEO Paul Wilcox said he has given Peters the benefit of the doubt that he will come good on the promises that he has made to the Industry before the 2017 Election. So where is the money going to come from to lift the minimum stake price ovèr it’s $10,000 and better race track facilities where poor conditions oftensaw meetings called off. I thought Peters made statements about Capitalism has had it day and time to change the system, but does that also mean only the things that don’t interupt his enjoyment like days gambling at the race and partaking in a few drams. This man is the scourge of NZ Politics and makes promises that can’t be kept especially if you penalise business in NZ to give the poor money they don’t have to earn.

A police spokeswoman said officers noticed a vehicle being driven dangerously on Pakuranga Rd around 1.55am.
“Police began following the driver at a distance and after a time, signalled for the driver to pull over but they failed to stop and a brief pursuit was initiated,” she said.

Mainstream Media Manipulation of ‘News’ Time

I have just been laughing myself silly (oh, okay, I sillier) at this story from Stuff:

The Von Metzinger family, Steven and Joan, and their children, Travis, 18, and Ethan, 15, have lost their battle to remain in New Zealand and have returned to South Africa on Saturday.
They tried everything to remain in New Zealand but in the end, the Von Metzinger family from Dunedin left the country on Saturday.

(Erm, Stuff, you told us that in the last para. Hire a subbie!)

The family initially hoped that an online petition which garnered close to 30,000 signatures asking for them to remain in the country would save them or that Associate Immigration Minister Kris Faafoi would intervene at the last minute.
But Steve von Metzinger told Stuff it was all in vain and that Immigration NZ was never going to listen to reason.
“I’m so angry with them. I wrote an open letter directed at them (Immigration NZ), but I’m not ready to publish it yet. I better tone it down first, ” Steve said.
The family, who has lived in New Zealand for nine years, had their residence visas declined in 2014 and lost their subsequent appeals.
According to Immigration NZ, the decision to decline their application was based on Steve’s youngest son, Ethan, 15, who had a pre-existing chronic kidney condition that the family allegedly never disclosed.
But Steve denied they lied to Immigration NZ and said that on legal advice, Ethan was not included in the family’s visa application, so his condition should not have been a consideration.
Steve also offered to pay all Ethan’s future medical costs if the family could remain in New Zealand but this is not possible according to the ministry of health, and it would have made no difference to their application, according to Immigration NZ.
The family was given until Sunday to leave the country or face deportation and they spent the last few weeks selling their assets in preparation for returning to South Africa.
However, their departure on Saturday wasn’t without complications as an alleged problem with their passports almost saw them stranded at Christchurch Airport.
“What a stuff up from Flight Centre. Ended up having to cancel the flight to Singapore due to the proximity of passport expiry. Only just managed to get a circuitous flight via Dubai to Johannesburg and had to forego our planned break in Singapore. For a while, I thought we would have to get consular support, but common sense prevailed,” Steve said.
The Von Metzingers now plan to have a “holiday” in South Africa before heading to Europe, where they hope to find another country that will accept them.

The family have ‘lost their battle’.

Most statements from Immigration New Zealand are prefixed with ‘according to’. Because Government Departments lie, right? Unlike this salt-of-the-earth family who did nothing except LIE ON THEIR APPLICATION FORM.

‘Close to 30,000’ people have signed a petition. Oh, really? A check of the site just before showed a total of 28,885. Why not be more exact and say ‘As at Noon today, 28,875 had signed’.
(‘Close to 30,000’ people have signed this here petition proclaiming Biscuit to be a treasure.)

Immigration New Zealand ‘was never going to listen to reason.’ Immigration New Zealand are there to uphold New Zealand law. That they took 4 years to turf this family out suggests they were far from hasty or unreasonable.

Some dodgy legal advice did our wonderful family. Note immediately that that legal advisor isn’t a) named, b) sourced (are they even New Zealand-based, e.g.) and c) hasn’t been invited to comment. And did the family not think ‘Hmmm, we are being advised to leave 25% of the family off a legal document. That sounds dodgy. And underhand. Maybe we should check with Immigration New Zealand?’

There was an ‘alleged’ problem with their passports. ‘Alleged’ as in ‘they were against us right to the end’? An ‘alleged’ problem that, natch, isn’t explained.

‘Flight Centre’ stuffed up. Oh, really? Muggins here knows that many countries are very shy at recognising passports that are within 6 months of expiry. This family has had since 2014 to get updated documents.

Never hear that expression ‘Ignorance of the year is no excuse’, Stuff?

The report is written by one Jacques Steenkamp. Hmmm, I thought. That almost sounds South African. Let’s go Google. What do I find? Second entry, a Facebook link, with ‘I’m a South African journalist and author based in Auckland…’

A public health research Advisor? At Auckland University has come out and said that aid should be given to supply Tonga with a dialysis unit as Tongans are dying painfull deaths because there is no treatment in Tonga.
What about asking our government to supply a dialysis unit to Whanganui. People here have to travel, sometimes three times a week to Palmerston North, for dialysis. People are dying in Whanganui from diabetes, Cancer and Heart conditions because its poorly run hospital cannot supply them with services that are only matched by those in third world (Shithole) Countries.

    We have two competing supermarkets within a kilometre and the staff at both are overwhelmingly Indian including management. The work ethic at both is outstanding and as a customer I can ask any staff member for assistance knowing full well that I will get the help I need – and with a smile. Pak n Save has one minor but very important point of difference that their checkout ladies are all Filipinos and their service ethic is amazing.

    Also there were two Cambodians & two Indians for the same reason.
    They all had a mate they could talk to about the old country and they knew enough English to exchange pleasantries.

Yesterday there was the post “No Justice” about the killer Zariah Samson pleading guilty to manslaughter.

She spent 3 years and 3 months in gaol custody on remand.

That got me thinking about how the wowsers made so much about the record time Ahmed Zoaui spent in custody , out of his own choice not to leave the country.

He came in illegally on someone else’s passport , had convictions abroad and had connections to Islamic terrorism.

The Catholics , Dave Dobbyn , TVNZ , and the general human rights industry went in to bat for this undesirable and yet here we have a home grown Maori girl , brought up in very adverse conditions and where are all the wowsers for her.
No ads on tv , no poetry , no songs , no documentaries or constant features.

Three years and three months , that must be a record!

My heart felt thanks to the 30 to 40 other kiwibloggers who had to read stephies shit before downticking it to oblivion this morning. I just finished off the last one that was viewable.
I see that DPF says in his commenting guidelines that its unacceptable to state all muslims are terrorists, all catholics are complicit in child abuse, yet lets stephie have free range at everyone he disagrees with here by calling us all nazis, white supremacists and the like.
Surely this is also a breach of commenting guidelines?
My suggestion is every time stephie makes a slur at someone on this blog, instead of pressing the thumbs down, hit the report button instead. When DPF starts getting 500 complaints a day regarding stephies posts, maybe something will finally be done about him.

  He came here as refugee many years ago. He is likely to have had residency for close to 20 years, so to suggest that he went back “as soon as” he obtained it is just bullshit. It may have escaped your notice that things have changed in Afghanistan in the last 23 years. He has made a real contribution in his time in this country. Can you say the same?

  Let’s think! She’s a woman so manslaughter is the likely charge. When it gets to court she’ll be a victim of domestic violence & it will be successfully alleged that her partner threw himself on the knife 45 times.

  My 18yo daughter was in town today. When she got home I asked if she had seen the Glitter Boobs march and she had no idea what I was talking about. So I gave her the back story of “some music festival around Christmas/New Year” and she STILL had no idea what I was talking about. Winston Peters has announced today at Karaka horse sales an all-weather racing track will be laid with synthetic turf. The location is still to be announced but it is speculated the all-weather course may be somewhere in the Waikato. Winnie stated that no existing racecourses will be closed.

One racehorse trainer spoken to by 1News said the money would be better spent elsewhere.

Women now outnumber men in the legal profession

Although women have long made up the majority of law graduates, this is the first time that they have dominated the ranks of practising solicitors and barristers.

The Law Society says that of 13,103 lawyers currently practising in New Zealand, 6553 are women and 6550 are men.

“I’ve been waiting with bated breath for a couple of years. I’m thrilled that we’re here,” said Law Society president Kathryn Beck.

“I don’t think the lack of the 50/50 parity was holding things back, but we all knew that we needed to be doing better than we were. Milestones like this serve to remind us and refresh our commitment to change – I really feel like we are gaining some momentum; we need to make sure we keep it going,” Beck said.

The profession will soon introduce a voluntary gender equality charter that aims to try ensure women have the same opportunities as men to reach senior legal positions.

As it stands, men still make up the majority of lawyers appointed Queen’s Counsel.

  I have always thought that the Legal profession was the standard bearer for holding up “Fairness” in the face of common sense.
  
  One only needs to look at the number of Employment Court decisions that award large sums of money to idiots, environment court decisions that leave crumbling 50’s apartments that are an uninhabitable quake risk standing because of “Architectual Value” and others.
