Solution – Outsource prisoners to China. I am sure it would be cheaper to send our criminals to China for them to handle than it would be to lock them up here

      Actually, I’ve visited the reffo centre on Manus, and it ain’t too bad. It’s probably on a par with a new prison like Spring Hill. We need to stop building flash/expensive places, and go back to basics. Stone/concrete walls, a bunk, toilet and handbasin. Mandatory ban on smoking: if the wardens aren’t allowed to, why should the crims.

I have to admit, I’m looking forward to Jacinda going away for 6 or so weeks (I think ultimately she will relinquish the PM role before the next election) just so the stand in can make a fool of himself for all to see in refusing to answer any questions and have a go at every interviewer, he will be shown up as the clown he really is as he will not be speaking as leader of NZ First but PM of the country and he will not be able to adjust nor help himself in his distain for MSM…stock up on the popcorn guys, gonna be fun!

    Heard from my friend a retired Waikato Dairy farmer and said they were grateful she was not where their farm was as that would be the largest way of the farm getting a disease. They mean of course too many of the wrong people roam at will on the farms.
    They believe it originates with bad overseas semen.
    But Catastrophe Cindy is clever with deep knowledge of farming from a Waikato Fish and Chip shop background.

    True tf78 it is hilarious watching her speaking as she now seems to have got some weird idea she “speaks with authority”. The only problem with so many sound bites and out bursts from her offers more opportunities for more lies. In addition to her body language broadcasting her big “tells” we now identify certain words as an equally loud “tell”.   Options are:
  Deputy Kelvin – who couldn’t run a bath.
  Angry Andy – the Unions choice
  Grunter Grant – the try hard without Union support.
  
  Given the unions probably orchestrated Jacindas ascent to the throne I will go with Angry Andy but it will take them three months to work through the process and the infighting will be entertaining.

        Right MrLovebucket it is increasingly obvious that the old drunk is slipping and without any speculation about health issues it might be simply the aging process. Having watched him perform in the House back in the day he is barely a patch on what he used to be in manner, ability or strength of his verbal delivery. He is well past his UBD and it is only his protracted stay they makes him an elder statesman of no particular note. Sad to watch.

    No, I think you are not correct – The Unions did not push or support Calamity Cindy but there was a loophole in the (new) Party Unions rules which allowed Helen Clark and Grant Robertson to “change” the minds of the Labour caucus.
    Normally the Party Union led choose – this time it was the caucus.

  We will of course have to wait to see how Mr Peters operates as Acting PM. My view is that this is his chance to set up a decent NZ First legacy for 2020, so he will take a firm but non confrontational stance.

It is very important to hear “what” and the manner in which is said. Started with frequent use “I” then when unity was needed that got dialled back but now has become even more dominant.

  She and her child (plus the celebrity partner, of course) will be all over our shallow and demented media for most of that 6-weeks period. After the first 48 hours it will be anything but “news” or “newsworthy”, of course, but we will continue to be fed a fulsome diet of social trash talk (with multiple pictures!) that will become nauseating.
  
  My only sympathy is for the poor (as-yet unborn) child who is going to have to live for the rest of its life with a permanently-recorded history of this entire charade. I hope that, eventually, the child will be able to live its own happy and fulfilling life.

    Anticipation Kpwtow they say is half the enjoyment and with strong signals of A) more crim hugging B) limited detection and policing of drug addled drivers and C) possible major softening of drug laws is starting to show. In fact we can well expect to see the crime rate sore in coming months which will blow the COL argument for less cells out of the water.
    It is the things they intend to tamper with that have lowered crime rates since even a little time in custody on remand can be a very strong lesson and a deterrent. Nobody else dared to take away their techno toys, belt, shoe laces and shut them behind bars before. For many young putty people it would be enough to turn them completely white and get them back on the right path. Their new tune would soon become “What a Friend We Have In Justice” set me on a path to life – outside. Set to a rap or hip hop beat could be a chart topper. Choice bro.

    Luckily Duxton to some degree we can be thankful that it is the tribal elite that grab all the settlement gains. Lucky too that they remain so tribal to never realise the true potential power their people could achieve from unity. Instead of demanding gifted representation or enforced consultation they could start to draw all their people together. Instead of letting them be totally dependent on the state entice them back into their tribes with education, accommodation and support from day one. Restore pride, passion and prosperity through their gains by investing in their people first. Create a strong representative tribal council with tribal issues resolved by majority to go forward to the level of establishing a native party.
    Don’t laugh but it is hard to not to since it will never happen since they will never leave the trough. That will remain forever the only flavour of democracy they have a taste for.

The US accepted.The United States agreed to downsize a military exercise with South Korea over concerns about how North Korea would react — in an effort not to anger Pyongyang just weeks before the planned summit between President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

Citing unnamed US officials, the Wall Street Journal reported on Friday that Seoul was worried Pyongyang might bristle at a joint US-South Korea-Japan air exercise, especially because the US planned to fly B-52 planes.

Those planes can carry nuclear weapons, and Pyongyang would (understandably) be unhappy if they flew so close to — or even over — the Korean Peninsula. Pyongyang already claims that any US-South Korea military training is just practice for a future invasion of North Korea. The US has in the past flown B-52s near the peninsula in response to North Korean nuclear tests, angering Pyongyang…”.

This may come as a surprise to those who don’t read my words closely, but I actually support the right of Jews to have their own State for which to call home.

What I disagree with however is the double standards. Why must Europeans and only Europeans have their ancient countries transformed and subsumed into the “globalism” blob?

Proof that we have an industry out of control.

This morning’s lead news story on Red Radio was social workers claiming that children as young as 7 & 8 had told them they wanted to commit suicide because they lived in violent households.

However, different groups are arguing amongst themselves as to whether this is a home violence situation or a mental health one. What it smacked of, it is a case of the special interest groups lining up with their hands out.

As one person pointed out, if children are truly suffering because of domestic violence, isn’t it about time we solved d?omestic violence rather than continuing to talk about it & study it?

  In the same interview it seems that 70% of people in jail have Drug, Alcohol or Mental problems and should be released. Not into my street please. This mad idea is raising the old adage, “We have people who are Bad and Mad and those that are Mad and Bad.” The former should be in prison the latter in a secure mental establishment. There is nothing to say that both of these institutions should not be in the same location. You cant do this by locking people up in ‘Containers with windows’. You need a large institution which can support the staff required to treat those that need treatment and ‘beat’ those that need ‘beating’.

    I think the people with drug addictions should be housed in very large farm type facilities where they can get clean and work on the land which is very therapeutic for mental conditions. The hardest part is getting them off the drugs and keeping them clean. They have similar facilities to this in Australia – sometime times it takes a few lags, but I think they are seeing some improvement.

I have been wondering about how contagious Mycoplasma bovis is? It is clear after Gypsy day on 1 June when many sharemilkers move their herds to new farms the horse will well and truly have bolted. This disease is going to cost the economy heavily.

“Most farmers are too trusting about access and movements on their farms, especially given that milk production is their livelihood.
Contagious mastitis can be caused by several different bacteria, some uncommon in NZ, but none should be tolerated here. Vigilance, education and knowledge of contagious mastitis are increasingly important.
Elevated somatic cell count (SCC) in individual cows does not always reliably indicate the presence of contagious mastitis. Often suspicion is only raised because milk quality has been negatively impacted, routine treatments are unsuccessful or large numbers of cows are affected. If the problem remains unchecked, economic losses may be substantial and solving the problems can be more difficult.
Once in cows the bacteria will spread very quickly from clusters cow to cow, but there will be clues to how these bugs turned up in the cows in the first place.
Mycoplasma bovis is spread between cows by contact, milking routines, contaminated equipment, movement of affected cows and calf milk. It does not respond to treatment, spreads rapidly and affects multiple quarters of cows. This is an exotic disease with affected farms controlled by MPI.
Contagious mastitis is often difficult to control since cow-to-cow transfer during milking is an effective means of transmission. “

    I read a comment yesterday that MPI had asked the industry a few months back for help in terms of personnel etc. The industry had a list ready in a couple of days of people who would/could help and gave it to MPI. A few months later, nothing from MPI.
    Also I heard it reported late last week that Damien O’Connor had said the Police have opened an investigation about how the virus got into NZ. There must be something going on in the background if the Police have effectively gone over the top of MPI.

Can it spread unsuspectingly from one farmer walking in gumboots to the next farm for a chat or does the actual cow need to carry the virus ie via loaned out livestock? Why I ask is that I suspected that the PSA virus that damaged the kiwifruit industry was sabotage.     Cows are very social and often rub up against each other with lots of phlegm hanging from their mouths and blowing in the wind. I’m guessing that any contact stock in paddocks, eating grass and feed, drinking from the same troughs, etc is enough. Total separation of those infected stock from those that are not appears to be the only protection?

    Gravelroad, there have been many studies trying to prove a link. The thing is the majority of teen boys play violent video games, but 99.9% don’t go on to slaughter their classmates.
    Just as the majority of teen boys in the US have relatively easy access to firearms, yet very, very few go on a violent rampage.
    What we do know is school-shooters are typically white, from a middle-class background (so not disadvantaged in many respects) – yet don’t have the same social skills as their peers, and generally don’t do well academically (yet have higher than average intelligence).
    All within the context of a society that increasingly craves instant gratification and fame.
    As I posted yesterday, it’s better to be notorious, than not noticed at all.

      This trope has been tried countless times before. There is no connection other than in the minds of people looking for easy reasons.
      
      What the US has to face up to is that there are too many guns within reach of people who have mental health issues.
      
      They need to make that link and ensure it is harder for those people to get access to guns. If that means the parents of depressed kids aren’t allowed to own firearms, so be it. The constitution is now simply used as a tool for the NRA and manufacturers to sell more guns.

    CM, back in 2008-2009 Alan Bollard co-wrote a paper outlining the macro economic factors that created recessions in NZ. They were a shock to the farming sector (usually a drought or a price plunge), migration changes, real interest rate spikes, oil shocks and CA deficit spikes (linked to oil). National spent money on water storage schemes and kept spending growth slow negating two of these will also promoting oil and gas exploration. The good thing that could come from this is that migration changes and this Mycoplasma bovis crisis could cause a recession, which usually changes the government (1974/75, 1983, 1987-1991, 1998/99, 2008).

        RWC there was a recession, but it started in Sept 1997 lasting about three quarters but you are correct the economy was far stronger in 1999. Actually the data shows far stronger growth in 1999 than what I have in my data from years back. Probably an ex post revision. What many don’t know is that from the late 1980s the RBNZ followed other central banks in setting interest rates with a Taylor-type rule but thanks to Winston in 1996/1997 they changed to targeting the MCI which meant interest rates went up when the dollar went down. During the Asian crisis capital fled to the USD thus pushing up interest rates. Immediately after Shipley sacked Winnie, the RBNZ returned to normal and growth surged again. Interestingly if you also look at the expenditure gdp series, there was actually a deep recession in late 2000- early 2001, which was really hard on the construction sector here. The other interesting thing in modern nz history was Ruth Richardson’s July 1 1991 budget didn’t cause a recession or an increase in unemployment, in fact it caused the opposite. I remember Brian Easton the night of (or night before) Bill English’s 2009 budget saying, what is a pure lie, that Richardson cut everything and the economy nose dived and unemployment surged.

    Try having a modern economic small engined car (1400cc) and it will cost you 18 cents more for the privilege of 98 octane.

On another note… news sites.

I used to look at Google News quite regularly. It was a good looking and informative aggregate of different news sources from all over the world and you could customise it with different sections – ie New Zealand News, Technology, Business, Male Sex Toys (just joking!) etc – as well as the UI and general ‘look’. It also ran pics in association with the articles.

A week or so ago Google asked someone with a serious brain disease to redesign the site and the result is boring non-cystomizable text-only irrelevant vomit which I just can’t stand and as a result I’ve deleted it from my favourites.

I’ve found Bing News is pretty good… but does anybody have any other good news aggregated site recommendations? Surely there’s better out there than Stuff or the Hoorald?

Their experience is very different to that of the African American, and, rather than being enslaved by the colonialists of this country, they themselves were the slave makers of their own people.

    It’s disgraceful that Justice Paul Davidson considered LWOP “manifestly excessive”. Check this out (emphasis mine):
    
    A man who brutally attacked his partner before leaving her to die on their garage floor has avoided life imprisonment without parole despite being issued his third strike.
    
    Dylyn Mitchell Davis, 26, was sentenced at the Hamilton High Court today to a minimum of 20 years in jail for the murder of Aroha Kerehoma.
    
    Davis bashed and choked his 28-year-old girlfriend at their Dominion Rd home in Hamilton on February 3 before leaving her for more than 12 hours while he bragged about how she had the assault coming to an acquaintance.
    
    Justice Paul Davison ruled life sentence without parole was manifestly unjust taking into account a number of factors including comparable cases where the cruelty, callousnes and brutality was higher and his young age.
    
    Defence lawyer Thomas Sutcliffe said the murder was not the worst murder imaginable and an appropriate sentence would be 11 years. He argued life imprisonment without parole was manifestally injust.
    
    But Crown prosecutor QC Ross Douch said the offence was high level because of the callousness, cruelty and brutality involved in the attack. Davis repreatedly bashed Kerehoma on the head and face and then left her to die. He said Davis should be sentenced to life imprisonment without parole.
    
    On the afternoon before her death Davis and Kerehoma had been drinking and playing music in their garage.
    
    She began texting her ex-partner later in the evening saying she did not feel safe and that Davis had been hitting her.
    
    She sent her last text message at 11.58pm on February 3 before Davis took the phone from her and began his assault. He then changed his clothes and left her to die in the garage.
    
    He went to an associate’s house and told her how he had bashed Kerehoma and that she “had it coming”. He then told another associate he had killed her and that he had “choked the bitch”.
    
    He returned home more than 12 hours later and called an ambulance. When medics arrived, they said it appeared she had been dead for hours.
    
    A post-mortem examination found no weapons were used in the attack and that Kerehoma’s horrific head injuries, which caused her death were consistent with the use of fists. The shocking injuries included bashed nasal bone, fractures in the base of her skull and extensive bruises to her face.
    
    Davis initially denied the murder, but later pleaded guilty.
    
    Davis’ first strike was for wounding with intent to injure in 2014 and his second strike was for aggravated robbery in 2015.

    The new Government may have signalled an intention to repeal Three Strikes, but until they do, the sentence is still available and should be used. One wonders what other charges lurk on Davis’ rap sheet, although it is clear he is a thug and a bully with no conscience whatsoever. An Australian professor who is a climate skeptic is fired for not towing the warming line about the Great Barrier Reef.

He writes –

I have published numerous scientific papers showing that much of the “science” claiming damage to the reef is either plain wrong or greatly exaggerated. As just one example, coral growth rates that have supposedly collapsed along the reef have, if anything, increased slightly.

Reefs that are supposedly smothered by dredging sediment actually contain great coral. And mass bleaching events along the reef that supposedly serve as evidence of permanent human-caused devastation are almost certainly completely natural and even cyclical.

These allegedly major catastrophic effects that recent science says were almost unknown before the 1980s are mainly the result of a simple fact: large-scale marine science did not get started on the reef until the 1970s.

By a decade later, studies of the reef had exploded, along with the number of marine biologists doing them. What all these scientists lacked, however, was historical perspective. There are almost no records of earlier eras to compare with current conditions. Thus, for many scientists studying reef problems, the results are unprecedented, and almost always seen as catastrophic and even world-threatening.

The only problem is that it isn’t so. The Great Barrier Reef is in fact in excellent condition. It certainly goes through periods of destruction where huge areas of coral are killed from hurricanes, starfish plagues and coral bleaching. However, it largely regrows within a decade to its former glory. Some parts of the southern reef, for example, have seen a tripling of coral in six years after they were devastated by a particularly severe cyclone.

Reefs have similarities to Australian forests, which require periodic bushfires. It looks terrible after the bushfire, but the forests always regrow. The ecosystem has evolved with these cycles of death and regrowth.

Then at the end of their sentence start rehabilitation and if they do it then release them, otherwise keep them in.
Also its time we started working on stopping young ones getting into crime in the first place.
