My thoughts –

‘The lessons of the 1980s’ are actually the lessons of the preceding decades. We’ve learned them; he clearly hasn’t.

Given the New Zealand economy was effectively ruined after years of policy quite similar to what your own administration is proposing bore its inevitable fruit, what should they have done Grant? Why will you not roll back those evil reforms?

If the impact on your community was harsh and you don’t want to see it again, well what has your Coalition just done in Taranaki?

In the 1980s New Zealand Inc was facing insolvency.

Then, as always, there were limited options available; devalue, sell assets, strip regulation, lower taxes etc.

‘As we transition and transform’ – to what? An economy that isn’t one of most envied in the world?

‘I don’t want to see that again’ – well, you will Grant. Only it won’t be you cleaning up the mess eh.

The fruits of this Labour shambles will not be ripe for some years but they are on the vine. Unless National can spray it with paraquat.

  I really don’t want to see high mortgage rates again. I had a first mortgage in the mid/late 80s but when I divorced I had to buy my partners share. Si I had a 1st at 11%, then a second from a building society at 22%. Yep 22% – single with two kids and working. Nearly killed me, but I won.

    I was in exactly the same position with the interest rates and the departed partner. It was bloody hard but the kids and I got through. What surprised me was how my lawyer got around Muldoon’s interest rate freeze, by a bit of financial juggling. It taught me a lesson that however dumb arse politicians try and legislate, clever people will invariably skirt around the laws.

    But I wouldn’t mind a little bit of inflation for a few years, nothing wipes out a mortgage like 5% a year inflation. House prices scream up and so long as you can weather the storm, you’d find yourself owing a fraction of the value of your home in mortgage terms.

    You’d say the same thing to the young 26 year old I am dealing with who considers that the emotional and mental agony he is suffering due to depression are too much to bear, would you? It’s the youngster’s ‘own choice before he suffers badly’. Or would you draw some haphazard and and arbitrary line in the sand about what is justifiable suicide and what isn’t?       Mental condition is different. Try apples with apples. Dr Goodall is 104 and does not want to have another injury and die a vegetable. In my opinion it is his choice to die in dignity. Those with mental issues are in a different basket

      I am the daughter of mother who committed suicide in a depressive state.
      Suicide is not for me.
      
      But I supported my Father’s wish to forgo any radio/chemotherapy when he was diagnosed with Lung cancer. He was old and tired and knew his own mind.

    Before the liberalisation of NZ in the ’70s, we had a firm law against suicide. If you tried and survived you got the legal consequences. And if you succeeded in your self-indulgent action then your family was punished. Of course all the liberals say our society has changed for the better. NZers of the Biblical persuasion may have a different interpretation

    I know it’s early on a sunday morning, but I cannot think of any new tax they can come up with that will raise enough money to fill the fiscal trench that is facing the fairy.
    Apart from raising GST what else is there.? An increase in the top tax rate will not do it. Tinkering with booze tax will not do it.
    The only sensible thing would be a financial transaction tax, but Cindy promised no new taxes this term. So this leaves us wondering what it will be.

      Land Tax and Capital Gains Tax. CGT, including in any part of the home used for business, was already enthusiastically promoted by Labour in 2014.
      
      So: higher rents, higher rates (land tax), less housing affordability, harder to start a small business the safest way: from home, harder for women wanting to start a little business while parenting.
      
      All to pay for the student piss-up.

      Don’t discount a rise in GST – a previous Government Tax Committee felt that a rise to 17.5% was feasible (it was said that 20% would be easier as people could calculate quicker).
      Our GST is small by many overseas equivalent.

      @holysheet suggest we not the obvious absence of any reference to a GST increase from the Media party as an strong indicator of what is ahead. It has been a serious setback to Labour to now be shackled to the lie of “no new taxes” they were forced to offer while they had a need for deck chairs. We were sure they were on a Titanic like ship also heading for disaster and up jumped the Fairy Queen. Whoosh and it turned into the good ship “Lollipop” thanks to a sugar daddy who showed us that magical power of only a single figure strength. Ringing true the saying “it is not what you got but how you use it ” the catch cry of those with a winkle as opposed to a many wrinkled penile protrusion.
      But you are right as there is no better means of a massive boost in tax take that can get anywhere near GST for a fast fix. Remember their voters are screaming for a fast fix evidenced even today by protest marches of so may who contributed to them being “elected”. With money and votes.

  @Viking2 nobody would ever consider comparing sweet cheeks to Noedmeyer or in fact any other previous Minister of Finance. Apart from being wired completely wrong there is nothing there to fathom figures or any grasp of even Economics 101. Then on top of all that mental deficiency there is the X factor of the secret agreement that will dictate too heavily on demands for funding.
  Hard as it may be it is important not so much to listen to all the baloney hut “hear” the hints hidden in all those words. Their rapid first rush of misplaced expenditure has left them in drastically cash strapped state all wrapped in their strait jacket pledge of fiscal responsibility. They are simply now wedged between the shit and the shovel with only on source of instant relief. An increase of (minimum) 2.5% of GST as it has been claimed as a promise broken by John Key who remains an easy target who will not take them to task.
  On the other hand most understand that was a Bill English master stroke made so much easier by making it tax neutral which also has the left whinging as they claim it favoured the “rich pricks”.
  The fact remains that as the result of a strong growing stable economy it is still the single element that continues to make the biggest contribution to that now wasted surplus. It is this fact too that has them pressed harder by the shit to the cold hard surface of the shovel. Not only will the increase in GST be instant cash but the increase will be more essential when inflation starts to really kick in. Consumers spending will start to decline especially in the 3rd and 4th quarter of 2019 so the return of increased GST will be essential to hold the take from a drastic drop in the consolidated fund.
  Almost everything that might yield higher returns have seen tax increases but the only big tax gatherer is an increase in GST. Implementation costs are largely on point of sale and not the struggling IRD or equally struggling COL which makes it the most attractive low hanging fruit ripe for picking. The fun will really start when we hear why this is “essential” to cover the “fiscal deficit” left from so much underfunding for 9 years of the previous Government. IMO that overused excuse is right up there with the best of global warming claims and about as valid.

The Minister for Police is considering targeting gang members committing benefit fraud, in a bid to “go after” them in whatever way he can.

“This is Al Capone and getting him for tax evasion. If we can’t get them for the crimes we know they’re committing, let’s investigate them for benefit fraud. Let’s find a way to get these gangs,” Stuart Nash told Newshub Nation on Saturday. “We will use whatever we can.”

      But RF they wrote themselves into a corner by originally rushing to promise 1800 more police officers. Now that they are having to walk the walk they are rapidly changing the narrative. Now they are going to STRIVE to increase numbers in their first term. After being gifted office they have finally looked at their policy promise and find that getting 1800 more will really be 2200 more. That is because they are loosing 400 per annum added to which they will downgrade training by having it in Auckland and not the traditional well established Trentham. Too many recruits can not be away from their mothers it seems. This along with a serious downgrading of entry standards. The only reason blokes have to be so tall is so they can have a girl recruit pass under his outstretched arm so they will not come to any harm.       Right NW it has always been a primary requirement to ensure the “client” was receiving their full entitlement. Now they want to tamper with the term “entitlement” which can not end well at all.
      We are now seeing the effects of poor parenting impacting heavily on schools and in the classrooms as well as alarming effect from early P exposure or participation. But help is on the way with yet another enquiry group headed by the Children’s Commissioner looking into how to improve education outcomes which have declines to yet another crisis level. This is even ahead of the arrival of children of unknown origin with two mums yet to enter the system.

  Here’s an example from this week. I saw a patched gang member in a supermarket shoplifting meat and razor blades. I told the store manager. Store manager gets security guard and 2 big 6 footer teenage grocery boys with her, follow the gang member to check out, waits till the guy goes through check out, confronts him, finds stolen items, takes gang member to back office, calls police. Thanks me. So far so good.
  I’m shopping in same supermarket yesterday. Ran into same store manager, ask her about gang member. Look of frustration crossed the poor women’s face. She said the Police never came , they waited 3 hours. In the end had to just trespass the guy, make a formal report of crime for police over the phone and let the guy go. All they got from the cops was later follow up call of apology. Pathetic. She said next time She’ll tell them she fears for her life in the hope that might provoke a response.

    A few years back our car was stolen. Then we were told by the police that a cop had seen it outside a house. But had *done nothing*. No wheel clamp, no knocking on door, no observation, nothing.
    
    The car was found abandoned elsewhere later, but no thanks to the Police.

      My sons car was stolen and later found parked in a side street with all contents missing. It had been hot wired.
      
      The attending Police later phoned my son and told him to pick his car up. 30 mts later when he arrived it had been stolen again. Neighbours reported that while the Police were looking at the car the suspects were sitting in a vehicle a short distance away watching them. When the Police left the suspects just got back into the car and drove off.
      
      When it was found again expensive mag wheels and ski rack were missing.

Just returned from a holiday in Europe. Apart from noticing that cities like Vienna and Cologne are awash with unemployed Muslim migrants (whereas there was scarcely a hijab to be seen in Budapest) the most striking thing was the absence of fat people. No doubt the governments of European countries bemoan the increase in their residents’ obesity as we do, but in comparison with the lardos to be seen in every shopping mall and Warehouse throughout NZ, Europeans are positively sylphlike.   Hospital think I should be 78 from my BMA but I’m happy so WTF 🙂

    BMI is a very crude measurement. If your waist size, blood pressure, heart rate, liver function, and cholesterol are all ok, then some kilos above their “ideal” shouldn’t make much of a difference, especially if you’ve a slightly more muscly build.

So another domino falls in the chain of Auckland volcanic peaks to be closed to cars on the pretext of some vague spiritual and cultural superstition.
This decision will have huge reproductive consequences for Auckland as a large section of the population were conceived in cars on the tops of these cones but more importantly how far are we going to go with this sort of dribble being propagated by luvies such as Josephine Bartley.
Maybe all boats should be banned from the Waitemata Harbour and only paddling of wakas permitted in case the spirituality of the area is disturbed, or possibly ban people from going on the beaches in case a taniwha is disturbed.
This is how a developed country slowly slips back to the dark ages by giving in to beliefs in spirits and cultural superstition.

        Mt Vic Devonport allows a special code for disabled people to drive up.
        
        I must say, though the community wasn’t happy to not be consulted, I went over there recently and walked up. It was *fantastic*:
        
        1. One could walk up the road without constantly worrying about cars.
        2. Far fewer people on the summit.
        3. Much *cleaner* summit. The carpark is no longer the disgusting ashtray and beer can mess it used to be.

Was chatting to a friend of mine last night.
He is a Senior Police Officer.
He tells me there are some real rumblings and tension in Police at the moment- Police have dropped recruiting standards in their push for the magical ‘Diversity’ and Mr Bush has made it perfectly clear White Males are no longer wanted. (Apparently the Police Magazine if full of angry letters re this)
I asked him what he thought of the week’s odd developments- He told me the Police Commissioner being used as a puppet by a Labour/Green Government will go down like a cup of cold sick with the Troops..

    Oats are good for those watching blood sugar levels.
    Another useful choice is hulled barley. Only the outermost husk has been removed.The barley has not even been pearled. Very low GI (about 20) and can be easily precooked in a slow cooker with 4½ cups water/1 cup barley. Freeze in small bags for later use. Can be eaten as savoury or sweet. Add eggs/bacon etc for breakfast or milk, sweetener, fruit etc. Very high fibre content and very pleasant to eat.

  MacLennan seems to be putting up a reasonable case for her action until you get to her: “…. Aotearoa has the highest reported rate of intimate partner violence in the developed world.”
  
  Sounds like another instance of a social activist citing a dubious international ranking of NZ. When you dig into such social activists’ statements you typically find the comparison is with about eight to 12 First World countries. You find we rank behind countries like Sweden, Switzerland and so on. What is unmeasured, or not quoted, let’s you reasonably assume that NZ performs better than most of the 90 to 95 per cent of the world’s nations.
  
  MacLennan used to be on Red Radio quite a bit, and came across as someone of the modern Far Left, which focuses on social issues rather than economic ones.
  
  From MacLennan’s opinions, she’s not a commentator who would give a mid-point, unbiased view in female v male issues. However, perhaps MacLennan knows details of this case that we plebs aren’t aware of.
  
  Regardless, it seems strange that MacLennan shouldn’t be allowed to express her opinion and criticise the judge.

      What is going to make the coming economic correction harder is the jump in population, caused by a view that if you bring in the people the economy will soar (GDP per capita has not soared), and jobs will spring up.
      
      Big-population proponents don’t touch on how to increase exports to support rising imports.

        When you wreck the private sector production how do you provide for import payments? Reducing the NZD price doesn’t help local prices and any govt having to pay benefits will have skyrocketing payouts.*
        
        Add increases to interest rates because global reserve banks are reducing credit exposure and local mortgage costs will rise too. More pressure on both households and govt.
        
        These matters were once the province of the Minister of Finance who needed a smattering of clues to comprehend them. Do we have an ostrich in that portfolio now? How can any budget be prepared? Ships can’t be rudderless–or can they?

While I appreciate the message – I really, really loathe ‘dirty politics’ – this is a case of Labour being hoist with its own petard. She also says:

“Low-blows like this only encourage normal, fair-minded people to rally around the victims and defend against further attacks.”

Firstly, what ‘normal, fair-minded people’? I suspect she’s referring to the ‘Jacinda-sponsoring’ MSM, national and international, who spent weeks trying to label John Key some kind of sexual offender – failing despite their best and dedicated universal efforts.

And that’s the ‘secondly’. That particular dose of Left wing ‘dirty politics’ failed because people know John Key and recognised it for exactly what it was – just as they recognised that the MSM are anything but ‘normal, fair-minded’ people. The MSM are the main, and most significant, purveyors of ‘dirty politics’ – they just have a list of acceptable targets/target groups.

I don’t know the rumours. But one thing is very, very clear – a massive number of people presumably think them entirely credible which can only be why they were so ‘rife’. Gayford has neither won any points for not standing up, himself, and disclaiming them. Having Ardern ‘protect’ him, using the Police to back her up, accompanied by a threatening lawyer, and the whining, compromised MSM just makes him look weak and silly.

It also suggests that he didn’t want to publicly refute anything in case there was an unlooked for response from unknown persons. So it was all diverted to the PM, the Police, and a lawyer – not only refuting the ‘rumours’, but very deliberately threatening anyone else that may have something to say.

Then, of course, there is the thing that the MSM are devoted Jacinda-fans and the most logical purposes of all this are clear to any rational mind considering who is getting the ‘advantage’:

  What worries me the most is who pressured Commissioner Bush to make the statement he did.
  
  The law requires to Police to act independently of politicians, and to apply the law without fear or favour. So we have two alternatives here; either:
  
  1) Commissioner Bush made an error of judgment in making his statement to media, or
  
  2) Commissioner Bush was pressured into allowing his office to be used for an overtly political purpose.
  
  In the case of option 1, Bush made a serious error of judgment as to the importance of a clear separation between the Police and politicians, and he ought to offer his resignation.
  
  In the case of option 2, Bush has been exposed as a weak leader, by allowing some unknown political operative to persuade him to make a very political statement. On that basis, he ought to offer his resignation.
  
  Police officers are currently investigating four accusations of indecent assault by a young male at Labour’s Summer Camp. How can the public now have any confidence that this investigation and any subsequent decision to prosecute will be made solely on the evidence, with its political significance ignored? The truth is, we can’t.
  
  Commissioner Bush, and by extension the Prime Minister and her office have placed the New Zealand Police in an invidious situation. Imagine the outcry from the Left if these rumours had been about a National MP’s partner, and the Commissioner of Police had intervened to hose them down.
  
  The fallout from this incident is only just beginning, and that is the last thing Labour and Jacinda Ardern would have wanted. What a shame for unintended consequences!

Remember pre election when National promised an increase to benefits and super from April 1 of around $1000 gross. Labour said ‘us too’ and offered $700 to match.

Hearing of my interim injunction application has been scheduled:

10am on Monday, 14th May 2018 at the Auckland High Court
Waterloo Quadrant (opposite Auckland University).

Although I’m sick, tired and legally unassisted, I managed to make the (extended) Court deadline of 5pm, Thursday 3 May 2018.

I filed my submission, a Second Affidavit myself and Affidavits in support of my Interim Injunction Application from Auckland Councillors Cathy Casey and Wayne Walker.

There is considerable public and media interest in this case.

I will be arguing that this was a malicious prosecution by Auckland Council CEO Stephen Town who has already tried to destroy my reputation;
is trying to destroy my livelihood by forcing me out of my home from where I live and work;
is trying to ruin me financially by forcing the rating sale of my only asset, my freehold home valued at $1,040,000 by potentially accepting a tender of $750,000; and because of the huge stress that this blatantly unjust municipal bullying and harassment has caused me – is destroying my health.

I will be also be arguing that all that was required by Auckland Council to secure the Judgment Debt over my disputed rates was to get a Charging Order placed over the title of my freehold property.

That was never done.

The precedent was set under Auckland City Council, where I was disputing and refusing to pay rates because of the lack of transparency in the spending of public rates monies on private sector consultants and contractors.

I was taken to Court, lost, and Auckland City Council were awarded a Judgment Debt, which was secured by a Charging Order against the title to my property.

Auckland City Council did not bully, harass me, attempt to force me into applying for rates postponement or threaten to sell my freehold home.

In fact – quite the opposite happened.

The Auckland City Council Eden/Albert Community Board gave me a ‘Good Citizen’s Award’ for my work opposing water privatisation and supporting more transparency in Council contracting.

So – why have I been subjected to this, IMO, disproportionately severe treatment by the CEO of Auckland Council, Stephen Town, the only person who is authorised to initiate a forced sale?

Because, IMO, I am a consistent and persistent anti-corruption ‘whistle-blower’ who has refused to back down in my fight for transparency and compliance by Auckland Council (and CCOs) with the statutory requirements of the NZ Public Records Act 2005, section 17.

WHAT DO I WANT?

I want the Interim Injunction granted to stop the forced rating sale of my home.

I then want to proceed with the Judicial Review over the breaches of natural justice that led to this forced rating sale by a conflicted CEO who has initiated, IMO, a malicious prosecution of a citizen anti-corruption whistle-blower, who has been trying for the last 11 years to get lawful transparency in the spending of public rates monies on private sector consultants and contractors.

In the meantime, Auckland Council could (belatedly) secure the Judgment Debt with a Charging Order against my property, and work with me in a constructive and positive way to ‘finish the job’ and complete the opening of the books to ensure the following details of awarded contracts are published on the websites of Auckland Council and Auckland Council CCOs.

* The unique contract number.

* The name of the consultant/ contractor.

* A brief description of the scope of the contract.

* Contract start/finish dates.

* The exact dollar value of each and every contract – including those sub-contracted.

* How the contract was awarded – by direct appointment or public tender.

MY HEALTH

I still don’t yet have the prognosis for my suspected ovarian cancer.

It is my intention to go to Auckland hospital on Monday 7 May 2018 to find out what’s happening.

However, I can confirm that it is a huge load off my mind (and body) to have that legal paperwork filed.

I’m also having acupuncture and taking a variety of natural supplements.

(My appetite has somewhat improved – which is a good sign!)

Now – just have to win the Interim Injunction!

Aides to Donald Trump, the US president, hired an Israeli private intelligence agency to orchestrate a “dirty ops” campaign against key individuals from the Obama administration who helped negotiate the Iran nuclear deal, the Observer can reveal.

People in the Trump camp contacted private investigators in May last year to “get dirt” on Ben Rhodes, who had been one of Barack Obama’s top national security advisers, and Colin Kahl, deputy assistant to Obama, as part of an elaborate attempt to discredit the deal.

The extraordinary revelations come days before Trump’s 12 May deadline to either scrap or continue to abide by the international deal limiting Iran’s nuclear programme.

Jack Straw, who as foreign secretary was involved in earlier efforts to restrict Iranian weapons, said: “These are extraordinary and appalling allegations but which also illustrate a high level of desperation by Trump and [the Israeli prime minister] Benjamin Netanyahu, not so much to discredit the deal but to undermine those around it.”

One former high-ranking British diplomat with wide experience of negotiating international peace agreements, requesting anonymity, said: “It’s bloody outrageous to do this. The whole point of negotiations is to not play dirty tricks like this.”

    I asked a young homeless woman, a few months ago, didn’t she have a mum to go and stay with?
    Her answer was, her mum was murdered.
    It was true, too, I remember the case.
    People don’t end up homeless/ begging for no good reason.
    Something has usually gone seriously wrong in their lives.

      They end up on the streets because they are victims of the extremely sexist beliefs of their culture.
      Their females are often treated as sex objects, chattels and punchbags, and the girls are mostly brainwashed from birth that their only function in life is to push out babies and serve men.
      The fall-out from this brainwashing can be found on the streets of our cities, the jails, and the gang-pads.

        Then there are legions of young girls kept out of school to babysit mum’s latest baby.

Is a police vet considered an inquiry?

If so, is this statement then possibly incorrect, if he has been vetted by the police at any stage?

“While in general we do not respond to enquiries which seek to confirm if individuals are under police investigation, on this occasion we can say that Mr Gayford is not AND HAS NOT BEEN the subject of any police inquiry, nor has he been charged in relation to any matter,” a police spokesperson said. (My emphasis)

I don’t know if he has, I know I have, its a routine procedure considering my occupation. I don’t know whether it’s considered an inquiry.

I’ve been trying to get some hard figures on what the CoL’s brainfarts are going to do to the economy. For a country where business people spend half their lives supplying figures to government departments trying to locate the info is like nailing jelly to a wall but here are a few facts:

➡️ Total NZ exports to Dec 2017 approx $54 billion

➡️ Oil & Gas production contributes $2.5 billion to the economy each year.

➡️ Aluminium produced at Tiwai shoves about a $1 billion into the country’s coffers.

➡️ Dairy is worth about $14 billion per year. Although the congenital idiot who announced cutbacks to the nation’s dairy herd had no hard figures let’s presume a 20% reduction.

So in the space of a month Labour have shafted NZ’s economy by $2.5 + $1 + $2.8 = $6.3 billion.

Can one of our far left, idiot, so-called journalists ask Chompers what the hell is going to replace these lost exports……and keep asking until she runs out of PR gobbledegook & has to give a straight answer!
