Cancelled Gold Coast conference costs Counties Manukau DHB $323,000. Might have been cheaper to go ahead and actually lose less, based on previous conference losses. At least they would get something for the money.

Seriously, DHB management running some sort of fiefdom of jolly jaunts, instead of doing what they are paid to do? Something to do with patients perhaps?

… the Counties Manukau Health Board ….. questioned the wisdom of a New Zealand DHB, which was under financial pressure, subsidising a conference in Australia where 90 per cent of the delegates were not New Zealanders and which was not core business for the DHB.

It also reviewed the finances of the previous three conferences and found that instead of making a small surplus each time, as originally reported, the costs had been understated. The three conferences ran up total losses of $972,000.

  This just further points to the wisdom of cutting down the number of DHBs, and then getting better management and proper boards for the bigger DHBs.
  
  TBF, a lot of these problems start in middle management – who are often former clinicians who have moved into admin/management, but don’t have a value for money mentality.

    The move for bigger and bigger local bodies and similar organisations is usually a con. Look at the Auckland Super City fuck-up, followed by a bureaucratic rather than democratic drive for more such mergers.
    
    As local as possible is the way to go.
    
    Increasing layers of management as mentioned in AgainsttheFlow’s post may be the result of bringing so many MBA’s into public organisation management. With one unit of organisation theory on their CV’s, these re-trainees often, mistakenly, see a too-thin (too them) organisation chart as alarming. Some MBA’s love creating management-heavy organisations.

        Fed was playing with a piddly 90″^2 head then finally moved in late 2013-2014 to the black stealthy 98 and the 2014 Aussie open semi was the last time he lost to Nadal as mid 2014 Wilson switched him to a 97, though he couldn’t beat Novak with this. Then in 2017 he had some new black stealthy racquet (with some new material) and he has been on a tear since. Two years ago I wouldn’t believe either would win another major, so wrong.

        Debate rages because it’s all career timing with main rivals. Djokovic and Nadal have had each other and Roger to beat, where as early on 03-07 Roger was mostly on his own – 12 GS in that time.
        How to adjust for all the variables ? Tricky stuff.
        
        In terms of recognition I’d say Roger is just arguably more popular and a bigger brand. Which goes beyond winning percentage. Remember Anna Kournikova ? Winning isn’t everything LK – ha !!

    When Winston Peters went with Labour he knew it would affect a large number of NZ First supporters, and this is shown by both left and right leaning polls showing the decline in their support.
    
    The only way NZ First will survive is by winning an electorate seat, with the prime option being Northland, hence the large spend in that area. Labour are in no position to gift a seat to NZF
    
    It is a sad indictment on our democracy, that a secret coalition agreement can determine the direction of the country and we should see all the details,
    
    The behaviour of Shane Jones in both the House and select committee can only be seen as abject arrogance and is sending the message that he doesn’t care about the fact it is tax payers money – as far as he is concerned, NZ First won the coalition battle and he can spend what he likes.

        I hear you about Northland, but I suspect there will be a number of things to consider in 2 years, these being:
        1. Will the polls be showing a bad news story for the CoL & the constituent parties? Meaning they may be too toxic to each other to work an arrangement.
        2. Despite splashing the dosh, Indiana is not winning over votes, merely some will remain bought;
        3. Even if he win’s an electorateNZF have to win more than 2% of the vote to get extra seats, else he’ll be a 1 man band like Seymour; and
        4. Despite what the MSM say, Peters is no more popular in Northland than anywhere else in NZ. Even some in his own whanau can’t stand the sight of him (from a member of his family to me).

      Right Tricati this above all else is why the SLG blocked the release of the 38 page secret agreement.   More on the Human Rights Commission’s attempt to use the UN to create the offence of “disharmonious speech targeted at the religion and beliefs of ethnic minority communities” with particular reference to “muslim New Zealanders”) and effectively to give legal privilege to Islam. Devoy traveled to Geneva to present the HRC’s submission to the UN in mid August 2017 with Rakesh Naidoo, the HRC’s “Strategy Adviser”. Naidoo, a South African immigrant, was seconded to the HRC in 2016 from the NZ Police where he is an Inspector with the role of National Ethnic Advisor. (He was also a guest at the Counties-Manakau Police Ramadan dinner.) It would be fair to assume he had a hand in developing the submission’s recommendations given he was tasked with assisting Devoy to present them to the UN.
  In February 2017 in the wake of the Huntly toilets “hate crime” affair Police Commissioner Bush told a Parliamentary Select Committee that the Police and the HRC were investigating whether a new category of “hate crime” should be created. Both the then Minister of Police (Bennet) and the then Minister of Justice (Adams) replied they saw no need for a new hate crime offence. It is now appears from the UN submission the Police and the HRC ignored their Ministers.
  So did the Police/HRC submission to the UN, which was made in the name of New Zealand, have Ministerial approval? Or were the two agencies going “rogue”? Yet another important question arising from this appalling attempt to restrict freedom of expression in New Zealand.

    Here’s a nice facebook video from the Counties Manakau Police Ramadan dinner the other night showing Inspector Naidoo with Dr Mohammad Anwar Sahib who was accused of anti-Jewish remarks in his sermons and reprimanded by the then Minister of Ethnic Affairs in November 2016.   @Rodney Randall so the so called Police District Commander Superintendent Jill Rogers was out of uniform by not wearing her bird spattered official headwear. Forget the virtue signalling as this relegates her to just being another member of the public for failing to wear her official uniform provided by the NZ Police Force.
  This will come back to haunt this Sheila and the NZ Police when they are reminded of her saying “that Muslims are among the most law-abiding, tolerant and quiet people. ” When things start to run amuck as they most surely will it will confirm yet another female promoted well past her level of competence. The only thing we might expect it that these so called “law-abiding, tolerant and quiet people ” are unlikely to call them pigs but infidels instead. This no doubt will be more easily accepted by this creature in her sheer ignorance of what is in store. To think people were so shocked by a bit of shit in the local hospital. Bet she won’t be the one scrapping body parts off the walls when they have been sprayed there.

Labour’s new policy of no evictions for Housing NZ tenants for drug use (“soft on meth, soft on the users of meth”) might well bite Labour/Greens at the election.

Such tenants don’t live isolated from the rest of us. They live close by ordinary decent people who vote. So the more HNZ housing that becomes run-down, over-grown crime scenes with frequent attendance by Police cars, the better.

  Right AgainstTheFlow while recently read on WO a guest post from a parent of a child who all but died after living a house that had been passed by the limits on P contamination. It got so serious before the ambulance arrived he was urgently airlifted to hospital by a diverted helicopter. Before that he had coughed up an ice cream container of “black gunk” he had accumulated in his system. Later at the hospital they were encouraged to contact and gather family members for an expected last goodbye. Thankfully the child pulled through and they have since moved house where the family are regaining poor health that resulted from P exposure. Her strong message was don’t move into any house where P is in any way detected.
  This desperate move by Twitford is based on a rushed report from Gluckman that concluded only a lack of evidence and not on any hard facts. While it might mean some gain a domicile sooner they might also end up sooner among those in another set of stats where there is no waiting list and the doors are always open. Apart from this possible outcome HNZ have really slumped to anew low by condoning the use of P and letting ot be smoked in their houses. The dealers will be please and can save fuel by the way state houses are concentrated. The pepper pot alternatives are not likely to be available this term except where Kiwibuild have “saved” a developer by buying off the plans. Then when their funds are locked up by a failure to sell they opt to make it a state house to recycle the funding. If he wasn’t such a FIGJAM we might feel a tinge sorry for him.

Hosking repeats the mantra that 3% of house buyers are foreigners. Very true, across New Zealand.

But, break this figure down region by region, and you find 20% of buyers in central Auckland are foreign, and 57% of Auckland buyers have chinese residency!!

Of course, this is not the only reason, low interest rates allowed locals to borrow more enabling them to somewhat compete against raw chinese buying power.

These apartments are put back on the market after graduation. Upside is the massive contribution to education costs through overseas sourced fees.

Red Radio suggested the sales were ‘luxury mansions’ in Herne Bay, Parnell and St Marys Bay when in all likelihood they were leasehold studio apartments in Hobson Street and often being moved on from one foreign student’s family to another.

Whether they read tea leaves or their magic balls they will be aware that with the present COL everything will rise in price proportionally with their stupidity. Added to which is the safety factor of buying in the highest priced locations where the crims might visit but do not dwell. Replacement insurance will cover any loss and they get a return on their investment while their children are comfortably housed to concentrate on their education. Win-win.

    MCos, I take your point. But the failing was Toothy, sounding off for the press yesterday. If she had said nothing, then we would be given no reason to level criticism at her.
    
    Similarly, like the celebrity fraternity in general, the PM has courted the press for no other reason than the oxygen of publicity. So she will figurively speaking, live or die by the publicity she has sought.
    
    What she & her partner do in their private lives is of no concern to me. However, when the PM & her spin minders make her private life front & centre of her actions/decisions as PM, then I as a NZ citizen, voter & taxpayer have every right to question, criticise & be derogatory towards the PM.
    
    Especially when, all her decision making to date has been aimed at the political rather the good governance of NZ, with the betterment of circumstances for all NZers.
    
    In my opinion, there has been scant evidence of good governance from the CoL. As Toothy is PM, responsibility for the poor governance rests with her. As they say, “If she can’t stand the heat, then perhaps, she should get out.”

One does not “survive” a death camp. To claim to have survived four of them is patently absurd. Why would you even bother moving people to camps on “death marches” to kill them when you could just shoot them immediately upon capture? If the Germans needed the captive labour, why would they execute their own workforce?

The Holocaust narrative is ridiculous. It doesn’t bear up to even the most cursory scrutiny.

The Nazis did in fact march most of the prisoners in their Poland-based camps to German camps as the Red Army approached, and a lot of the prisoners died on the way (funnily enough, people who are exhausted, starving and under-dressed don’t cope well with forced route marches in freezing temperatures). That’s plenty good enough reason to refer to them as “death marches,” even though killing the prisoners wasn’t the purpose of them.
  
  You might well ask why the Nazis did such a pointless and stupid thing, but it would have to get in the queue of questions about all the other stupid and pointless things they did.

  They didn’t execute their captive labour, they worked it to death, same as the Soviets. That’s why the “death marches” consisted of people like Gina Turgen and Anne Frank rather than adult labourers.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern says she’s not superwoman – and she worries about other expectant mums feeling the pressure to follow her example.

Jacinda is correct for once – she’s not superwoman.

There was nothing to worry about with Peters in charge and she wasn’t relinquishing control completely. If a Labour minister, erred, for instance, or major decisions were required, she would expect to be involved.

Sheesh, based on recent trends, Jacinda will need to be on 24/7 standby!

If Peters is out of the country or cannot fulfil the role for whatever reason Ardern’s deputy, Kelvin Davis, would be next in line as acting prime minister.

I had all kinds of fantasies of how it would be when my daughter came into the world and the reality of post birth hormones, fog of lack of sleep and general reality we had let a little terrorist into our household came as quite a shock.

        I’ve been primary caregiver for a six-month old with my non-functional male nipples, and it worked fine because there’s this wonderful new invention called bottles. You can even bottle-feed them breast milk.
        
        I expect most women wouldn’t want to go back to work again after only six weeks, but then most women aren’t the prime minister, and most women don’t have the crew of flunkies that a prime minister does.

        @Local Miller you might also understand there is big trap that will be well disguised and beckoning for a new mother especially of a late first baby. It is very likely in the short 6 weeks of concentrated care from the mother who might breast feed that the child will become very “mother” dependant. Even at 6 weeks they seek the comfort and security of the mother/baby bond developing a clinging nature.
        This could make life hell for the house boy unlike any other encounter he has ever been confronted with. This child is due to invade a household far removed from a stable two parent family environment especially where longevity might at the very least be uncertain. There is serious dose of reality to come in the near future for these misfits that will all be far from the maddening crowd and the Media party.

LOL. Poor Steve Braunias. Who gave him this assignment of DWTS? He appears to be having some sort of breakdown… all because of David Seymour.

Mind you, have you ever seen a better demonstration of the cliche NZ has become? It’s all ‘racist’, apparently.

“First they came for the Persians”… I think that was more to do with her past publicity (not that I’m really aware of it) but I think it was her own doing. It was sad because she was the best dancer but it’s the public which Braunias and his ilk have ‘trained’ who are his problem. Once they identify a ‘victim’, they go for the jugular.

“And then they came for Maori.” Well, Marama Fox couldn’t dance and, unlike Naz, didn’t even attempt to be part of DWTS. Her only goal, as ever, was to be ‘Maori’ – she’s incapable of any other facet or depth, it seems. That’s her sum total. Unfortunately, it wasn’t intended to be a kapa haka or cultural competition. Robert Rakete probably just didn’t stand out with anything – sort of nowhere, notwithstanding I liked his last routine. I don’t know why people didn’t vote for him – possibly because he doesn’t inspire extremes of anything.

Shaz, along with the Marama and Robert, has taught me something though. I always viewed Maori as ‘Pacific’ and equate them with rhythm and song. DWTS is the first time I’ve noticed that they physically move like blocks of wood. They’re really not ‘Pacific’ – or in terms of ‘hula’ type flexibility. Shaz was the best last night she’s ever been – perhaps that’s why they thought she looked nervous. Perhaps she was because it’s so ‘foreign’ – sort of ‘unseemly’.

You have to laugh, though. Braunias (like all Left/liberals) manages to take a concept of English culture and heritage and claim it’s not ‘culture’ or is a ‘cultural wasteland’. I suppose that’s ‘modern’ and certainly what’s been preached for some decades. If it’s not ‘black culture’, it’s not ‘culture’ – and I mean, no-one has a right to any culture which is not all or partially ‘black culture’. Not.

DWTS, in principle if not in practice, is ballroom dancing – the elite aspect of European dancing as folk dancing was for the ‘common’ people. And the problem is? On what possible grounds is it a ‘wasteland’? Why should the practice of European cultural heritage – and an enjoyable, healthy pastime – be called ‘white entitlement’ in derogatory terms. Of course they’re ‘entitled’ – it’s their culture – notwithstanding they’re willing to include anyone who wants to participate. Unlike Maori.

Braunia proves his own accusations. The ‘white majority’ is endangered – precisely because their culture and heritage is denied to exist and/or forbidden to be practised. Kapa haka is intensely, purposely, and overtly racist – I seriously doubt they’d tolerate a European ballroom dancer being introduced into one of their kapa haka routines – but they’re allowed.

Having said all that, I suppose Braunias decided it would not be popular to attack Jess. I like Jess, and she’s brave. But she’s another block of wood. She’s there because she’s disabled. I suppose Braunias would say because she’s ‘white’ and disabled. I suspect it’s just the ‘disabled’.

What a hoot, though. Because the entire cliched caricaturing rant is because – he really, really hates David Seymour. Not only can he not believe that people would vote for David, he can’t believe that people won’t do what Braunias tells them to do. So he’s tried disparagement, abuse, ordering people not to vote for him; then he made an attempt to lighten up in the hope of looking less vindictive; now he’s in full on reverse psychology – Vote David, Vote David.

He’s simply hysterical. But it’s interesting to see what such unreasoning hatred and hysteria produce – all the racist Left/liberal garbage we’ve been subjected to for the last few decades throughout society.

Just returned from one of my regular trips to the Philippines and I was amazed to find that Ardern is quite a topic of conversation amongst sections of the population over there.
They first saw her at the East Asia Summit in late 2017 but subsequent baby headlines are what has really got people talking.
They seemed fairly blasé about the fact she is a prime minister and pregnant but pretty much universally they were bemused why Ardern and some of the NZ population would actually be proud of her situation(not married and pregnant with a boyfriend) as in their country this is a sign of loose morals and a poor upbringing.
I attempted to explain that being married with children is crusty and old fashioned in NZ now and is virtually frowned upon and only enlightened progressive people adopted alternative family arrangements such as hers but this kind of went down like a cup of cold sick so I didn’t bother trying to explain anymore after a while.
So Ardern has definitely left her mark in some countries overseas but whether it is a good one is a completely different story.

    Anyone who complains about Filipino immigrants has to be a tad xenophobic. Ask the people of Southland where so many have become involved in dairying. They are extremely community minded, hardworking, crime free and if you ask any teacher their kids are highly motivated and a dream to teach. From personal experience Filipino nurses working in NZ hospitals are highly professional and trained under the US system where practical time on the job is deemed to be more valuable than a uni degree.

I am starting to sense that Abby Wilson has made a big mistake with her “expose” on the ructions at NZ Cycling.
Anthony Peden is now off to China to be their national cycling coach. His results with NZ Cycling speak for themselves. A no-nonsense coach selecting athletes on form getting the best out of them.
I believe this beat up is being led by cyclists who were told they did not fit the bill and were therefore not selected – so they have skewered Pedan.
Pedan has done the right thing and gone to where he is wanted. Very similar to when Dick Tonks left Rowing NZ.

‘Gendered language’ banned at Australian universities

“She”, “mankind” and “workmanship” are among the gendered terms that some Australian universities have now banned.

In a move towards gender neutrality, some universities have taken to banning any words with gendered meaning.

As a result, students are losing marks on assignments if they are seen to be using language that isn’t inclusive.

Queensland University of Technology has employed the policy, excluding terms such as ‘wife of’ or ‘mother of’ as exclusive words, and has deemed the suffix ‘man’ as sexist.

The University of Sydney claims it would prefer its students to just be grammatically incorrect over being politically incorrect.

The acting dean of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Queensland, Professor Julie Dick agrees with the decision made by some universities.

“Students are advised to avoid gender-biased language in the same way they are advised to avoid racist language, clichés, contractions, colloquialisms, and slang in their essays,” she says.

Very clever bullshit, though: lead with a story about QUT “banning” gender-biased terms (which they haven’t), then pasted in a list of “naughty words” nicked from the Daily Mail, suggesting that these are the terms that were supposedly “banned.”
  
  The actual policy is here, and is a fairly straightforward one saying that students will get marked down for gender-biased terms like “mankind” or using the pronoun “he” when both sexes are included.
  
  You can huff and puff about it if you like, but it’s entirely reasonable, just like the Anthropology department will mark you down if your essay is full of references to “heathen savages” or “primitive races.”

  My essays at Auckland Uni suffered extensive red pen strikes through such words as ‘mankind’ et al several decades ago and was accompanied by extensive comment in tutorials.
  
  Not least in the tutorials was the insistence that I (along with everyone else) had been brainwashed into my female ‘gender’ identification and its inherent inferiority. The evidence of my father’s skill in doing this was signified by my inability to identify how or when he was doing it – who always insisted I could be/do anything I wanted to be/do and had no problem with me donning his overalls to work on my car, etc. (shocked a few men at Repco though) and expected the same from everyone else.
  
  The problem with me and Uni was that my father (and mother, come to that) insisted I be rational, practical, and use the intelligence I was given at all times. This was in direct conflict with the mass stupidity of irrational and impractical academic and political ‘groupthink’ and mind control that has now prevailed for some time.
  
  As far as survival in the PC world goes, I was very inappropriately socialised – can’t say I regret it though.

      As opposed to dogmatically asserting an ideological position, redefining everything by that particular context, and forbidding any/all academic study/achievement unless framed in that context. I could call it narcissistic navel-gazing.
      
      No academic environment should be so blinded by frivolous, adamant, ideologically based, technical aspects of communication that it loses sight of the basic content and/or quality of the area of study – unless it’s study of those technical aspects – especially when it seeks to impede or unnecessarily complicate the linguistic flow.
      
      There is nothing ‘rational’ about those language rules. It would be far more logical to tell people to make any choice they like or according to their ‘gender’. It is how they view the world.
      
      In the current world of all genders being on a continuum with some really unable to choose, it would be a more logical PC pronoun to use ‘it’, in any case, instead of ‘he’ or ‘she’. The New York Times assassinates Razan al-Najjar a second time

It surely does not surprise that the Times provides yeoman’s service for Israeli hasbara. Indeed, one reads Times coverage not to be better informed but from quaint curiosity: How will it filter the damning facts to make them more palatable to its target audience on the Upper East Side?

What happened is not in doubt. As the young woman, dressed in her white medical uniform and with her hands raised in the air, approached an injured protester, she was shot dead by an Israeli sniper.

A few days later, Israeli hasbara released a video purporting to show that al-Najjar was a Hamas dupe and Hamas human shield. The video contained a clip from a past interview in which she is quoted as saying: “I am here on the front line and I act as a human shield.” In fact, the Israeli video falsified al-Najjar’s words. Her actual statement was: “I’m acting as a human rescue shield to protect the injured inside the armistice line.”

If there was a news story here, it should have been headlined, “Israel Releases Doctored Video to Justify Murder of Gaza Paramedic.”

      To which ztev said, as you rightly quoted directly – “Jacinda won’t be there”. I, however, took to be a bit of general social commentary on a woman that is 9 months pregnant, not some official statement from her PA. As one usually does, for women that are in such a state.
      
      If she is going – good on her, waikatogirl’s original question is answered, in the positive.
      
      If you want to then pick bones about ztev not having it right because “he’s Mallard in disguise” or whatever the latest conspiracy fantasy is, be my guest, but it seems like a case of being argumentative for the sake of it.

  If so what a wally, all he had to do was wait until he became Acting-PM and show the nation that he has more nous than Ardern and is a better leader (I mean even I would be cheering him on after 6 months of putting up with the airhead schoolgirl screwing things up), that surely would have attracted increased support, instead his Deputy-Prime Ministership will be remembered as being part and parcel of his legal shenanigans!   In Official Information Act documents obtained by Newsroom into the internal MSD investigation, it transpired that 41 MSD staff had been involved in Peters’ case and interviews had been conducted with 12 staff who had full access to information on the case.
  
  So 41 staff had been involved in Peters’ case but he automatically blames National, the top level bureaucrats (and last year 2 journos)! Looks like he is blindly throwing mud hoping it will stick to something (and possibly has the wrong targets anyway by the looks of things)!
  
  I wonder if any of the 41 staff were Green Party supporters & upset that Turei was supposedly outed by ……… ?

The (alleged) deliberate leaking of his private details was timed to inflict major damage on NZF in the lead up to the election and led to many National voters switching away from NZF after otherwise seeing an opportunity to reign in the left wing bias and appeasement approach of the Nats.
It was in effect the very cause of the situation we are now experiencing.

    It was Soper who was adamant about where the leak came from and he has the experience and contacts to be credible on this.
    Far from being a fuckwit I am pleased I now have the ability to have an objective approach to politics after many years involvement in campaigning for the National Party and will continue to seek the truth on any matter regardless of which party.

      Soper was not able to produce fact also and this is another story from Peters to gain some traction for his Party that is in big trouble in the polls. But you go ahead and allege that National did without evidence to prove it before it gets to court. Lots of people do heaps for Political Parties of their choice but don’t big note like you do and I bet there are some high up in the National Party are pleased to see the back of you.
