      Well its the presupposition of the Keynsian Phillips Curve, the idea that higher inflation leads to a higher level of economic output, that higher than expected inflation leads temporarily to lower unemployment.
      
      People assume that the only way government does this is through monetary and fiscal policy, equally effective is to just lie about the inflation that the central banking system and the expansion of the money supply creates. Just make up a figure explaining how in sydney despite many households spending 60% of their income on housing, that housing has a very low contribution to ‘cpi’….
      
      Of course in reality Keynsianism failed, it failed in every state with hyperinflation, it failed in Europe with real unemployment over 50% it failed in america with slightly better but still abysmall unemployment, abotts stimulus package failed. These kensyians are just psuedoscintists…
      
      What is important is government policies which restrict free market transactions which ensure allocative efficency of resources and economic growth, but that is an answer that the state and its leadership doesn’t want to hear, that the key to economic growth is for the state to minimize its intervention in the market… But that means the sate has very little to offer the taxpayers and political leadership likes to make decisions about the way things are going to be.
      
      Hitler was very honest in this regards, more so than the other leaders who ignore economics, he simply states that the whole thing is ‘jewish nonsense’ and all that matter is the political leadership of the central planning comittees and the will of the state to achieve economic objectives.

        I laughed many years ago at Paul Krugman who was saying the government (or governments in poor countries) should borrow, print and spend to jazz up their economies. Ken Rogoff shot back saying we now have 70 years of economic data from like 200 countries and this tends you make the economy worse not better (the exact quote was in William Easterlys ‘The White Man’s Burden’). The Wages of Destruction is a good book on the German economy in the 1930s. Read Amity Shlaes “The Forgotten Man” she shows all FDR did was print money and politicians have been copying him ever since. On the Phillips Curve, Friedman, Phelps and Lucas are normally credited with refuting the long run version in the late 60s-early 70s but someone actually reviewed the original AW Phillips article at the time, saying it was wrong but he was completely ignored.

Interestingly the rhotic sound is the last one a child learns to master, so her brain may not be fully developed yet. Of greater concern however is that last time she got flustered in the wake of the Waihi summer camp sex abuse scandal, she went and destroyed a sector of the economy. I am waiting for the for an apology from the lefties who pre election attacked Stephen Joyce ( by claiming him to be incompetent on the basis he did not finish a degree and at the same time not acknowledging that he went on to create a multi million dollar business) for estimating an 11.5 billion dollar hole on the Labour Party fiscal plan. Joyce, at that time correctly predicted there was no allowance in the unspecified expenses for wage claims for nurses, teachers, and public servants. And now the fiscal hole has materialized; Cameron Bagrie has said it is even bigger. Perhaps the other sycophantic economists who were afraid of getting offside with the Labour party will also recant.

The Green Party MP, Golriz Ghahraman, came to my attention on 3 August 2018 after she posted a video on Twitter saying, “No human right is absolute. They are all subject to lawful limits.” I responded that in the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights, there are many human rights which are absolute, such as the right not to be tortured or suffer cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment. She blocked me on Twitter.

Ms Ghahraman’s Green Party profile states, “Golriz is an Iranian-Kiwi refugee, lucky to escape war and persecution as a child” and “Golriz made history as the first ever refugee to be sworn in as an MP”[1].

In a NZ Herald article, Meet Golriz Ghahraman, the Green Party’s newest Member of Parliament, 7 October 2017, Kirsty Johnston writes, “Most of Golriz Ghahraman’s childhood memories are of war. She remembers howling sirens, sending families scurrying into basements. Ms Ghahraman stated in June 2017 that “I’m from Mashhad in the north of Iran”[3]. She was proud of her city and claimed that since Mosul in northern Iraq had been destroyed, it was the most important “holy city” for the Shi’a. This claim is incorrect because the most important Shi’a cities have always been Najaf with the shrine of Imam Ali, and Karbala with the shrine of Imam Hussein. In the order of revered Shi’a holy men, Ali is the first Imam, Hussein is the third and Mashhad has the shrine for Imam Reza, lower down the list as the fifth Imam of the 12 Imams.

The significance of Ms Ghahraman’s statement is that she has an affinity with Mashhad, which indicates she was living there and not in Tehran.

Mashhad is the largest city in eastern Iran, near the border with Afghanistan. It was unaffected by the war, except as a safe haven for many people displaced by the Iran-Iraq war in the west and south. There were no missiles attacks. It is 900 km east of Tehran and 1500km from Iraq, well out of Iraqi rocket range. If she was always living in Mashhad until 1990, the claim of war memories is fictional.

Read the whole piece, and pretty much every claim Ghahraman has made publicly about her refugee status is debunked. That, of course, undermines her claim to be New Zealand’s first refugee MP.

The MSM of course won’t touch this story with a bargepole. It will be interesting to see if it gets any traction, especially given Ms Ghahraman’s already-established habit for embellishing her CV.

  As Simon Jeans points out… the family left with their passports…
  The family was issued with passports, given permission to leave the country and allowed to take a holiday in Malaysia. The regime had a watch list to stop opponents obtaining passports and departing from an airport.
  
  This indicates that Ms Ghahraman’s family were viewed by the regime as their supporters. Her father was undertaking strategic research. That he was allowed to travel outside Iran with his family, indicates he was trusted to return. He would only have been given these benefits if he was either a supporter of the regime or harboured no indications of opposition to them. All government workplaces had monitoring units to ensure adherence to the principles of the Islamic Revolution. The issuing of passports, permission to leave for a holiday and an orderly departure, is not consistent with people who were persecuted by the regime.

  I got some things from Farro the other day and they had biodegradable bags as a substitute already.
  Tomorrow for golf I will have a well worn plastic bag to put damp shoes in after the game, lunch in a plastic bag and coffee thermos in a plastic bag in case of any leaks that get into clothing.

  The CFL were a poor relation at the time.
  Market forces moved towards LED bulbs.
  Within ten years I fully use LED bulbs.
  
  Unintended consequences:-
  Increase tax on cigarettes and aggravated robberies increase noticeably.
  Ban cigarettes and there will be a black market with no tax revenue just enforcement costs and still be health costs.
  Ban plastic bags and……?
  
  Perhaps Ardern might call in the ambassadors of India, China, Vietnam etc and waggle her SLG finger at them for emptying plastic bags and other untreated waste into the world’s oceans.

Well, the CoL is settling down to important matters like their ridiculous campaign against MULTI-use plastic bags.
I don’t know anyone who uses them once. If nothing else they are used as bin-liners for rubbish from the kitchen.
One of the major outfits who are campaigning against them is STUFF. These are the people who deliver their papers in double wrapped plastic bags. I assume they will stop doing that?
I also hope that all Government Offices will stop using plastic bags for all their garbage. Beehive offices would be a good place to start.

  Ever notice Key or English would be asked a question, they’d reply, then immediately the reporters would ask a refined follow up question? But our Airhead just says “absolutely” and all follow up questions cease, yet she hasn’t given an actual answer. I wonder if Obama used “absolutely” because reporters never grilled him?

      I not aware of a word for truth in Polynesian. They have one for correct conduct in context/correct manners/proper behaviour. That would do.
      There is also one for trickery alluding to two countries which cannot be trusted.

There was a National Party video on my LinkedIn feed yesterday. Aside from the fact that LinkedIn is not for political videos, it was pretty cheesy are dire. It had SB playing the drums and a few slow-mo walking sections. It was awful and not sending the message that needs to be sent. Anyone else come across this one?

Three journalists have written a piece on the three men who are seen as having kicked off all the “security concerns”. And of course, none of them intended violence, none of them were suggesting violence, they were just misinterpreted.

First up is Palmerston North gang member Te Kai Po Ahuriri, who posted the link to the Brash event on Facebook saying: “This guy lol….if you’re up to nothing Wednesday head up to Massey uni PN”.

But wouldn’t y’know, he’s really a sweetheart, well known for giving food to vulnerable people, campaigning against drugs and taking part in an anti-violence-themed boxing event.

Assuming the article is telling the whole story (big assumption, I know), it doesn’t sound as if Ahuriri is too bad. From reading the article it does sound as though he’s fine with Don Brash, and even talks about having met him, chatted with him, swapped their points of view and shaking hands. Sounds fair enough to me. Having said that, I haven’t seen the FB post, so a bit hard to know exactly how it was framed.

But then we come to Vorn Rossiter, the thug who wrote “take a gun”. He apparently has told Stuff he didn’t intend to hurt anyone at the event. “It’s all been blown out of proportion,” he said. “And whoever’s page I commented on, he knows who I am. That was said in jest.”

Oh good. That’s alright then. It’s fine to joke about taking a gun to an event, because the guy whose page you commented on knows you. And of course, it would never get shared to anyone else, someone who might not know you, someone who might take it a bit more seriously. Nah, that never happens on Facebook, does it?

*sigh* How long have we been telling kids to be careful what they put on the Internet, because once it’s there the ENTIRE WORLD can see it? What is wrong with these clowns?

Oh, and Karl Pearce is mentioned also. No idea what his letter said so I can’t really comment. But, like the others, he’s been “misinterpreted.”

China could be about to have an Asian crisis style Yuan depreciation. It only imports $150b worth of goods from the US. It’s tariff capacities are expended. All it can do now is harrass American entities with regulations etc, and lower the Yuan. If it lowers the Yuan, which is at lows not seen since 2008, the United States will escalate tariffs. China will have no response that doesn’t cause major damage.

There is a graph on the interwebs from former Fed officials gone rogue. It shows there has been no increase in capital investment in the United States since the year 2000. It’s the first proof of what many people have suspected. Comparative advantage only holds when capital is fixed. Mobile capital spoils the ‘comparative’ advantage as all the goodwill is forced to move to one economic party. As a result the ‘importing’ party has to buy it’s outsourced production using debt, and service the debt from an ever-decreasing production base.

That’s the economic death spiral of the West. That’s what Trump is going to stop over his two terms. He’s right. You can win a trade war when you’re in a massive trade account deficit, and you have a reserve currency & you know that status won’t last so you use it while you have it.

A national truck driver shortage.

If the industry were serious about training and hiring locals it would press the Government to:

1. Create a formal apprenticeship scheme for drivers, which would qualify for the subsidies being offered for training other apprentices.

2. Press the Government to set up a national training scheme that would train drivers on the scale that the army trained drivers in World War.

The Government could divert some money from universities and the swathe of new pseudo-universities which are training thousands of Kiwis in social sciences and other subjects which do not match any employment demand.

  What used to be before the PC Maori got at it, BOP polytech, have had driver courses for 20 years. The problem really is that few trucking companies have small trucks anymore so the young fella’s never get a chance to drive round town etc and upgrade as they go. Its give us $5k and w can pout you thru and you can get your drivers ticket so you can drive trucks for 70 hours a week, be away from home for days all for a generous minimum wage.

Whanganui is the base of the traditional Catholics, the Society of St Pius X. There’s also the Exclusive Brethren who moved to Wanganui about 10 years ago and have grown since. The roots of Te Haahi Rātana began just south of the city in 1925 and thousands of Māori around the country are dedicated to the Rātana movement. Catholics, Protestants, Baptists, Presbyterians, Methodists, Seventh Day Adventists, Mormons and others are all in operation in Whanganui.

Around the corner … a small white and green building with the words ‘Masjid E Bilal’ written on it is tucked into a quiet corner of Talbot Street. This is where Whanganui’s Muslims gather to pray five times a day.

Why the Tax Justice Network is launching in New Zealand

Silly suggestion 1:

A level playing field with harmonised rules would ensure companies can’t take advantages of different rules in different countries. Some degree of international oversight of international tax law, for example by the United Nations, would be extremely useful.

Based on brief research, I’ve discovered that there is a UN Committee of Experts on International Tax, and that last year there was an unsuccessful attempt to transform that committee into “an inter-governmental subsidiary body of the [UN] Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), with experts representing their respective governments”. Just imagine what a council of leftist economists and sociologists would do with international tax policy if it were up to them.

Silly suggestion 2:

New Zealand is ideally placed to be at the global forefront of combating tax avoidance. We could act now by removing non-transparency and other tax haven-like features from our companies and trust law (and proudly announce this).

The proposition that New Zealand has “tax haven-like features” in its companies and trust law is, in a word, ridiculous.

Silly suggestion 3:

Our taxation system should focus on wealth as well as income. Changes should also help ensure that taxation compensates for “externalities”, such as environmental degradation – a topic important for all of us.

Yes, of course, let’s have wealth taxes and environmental degradation taxes. Is there any leftist discussion that doesn’t conclude that new taxes are necessary?

        Yes Israel retaliates. More people die. The record has shown if they don’t destroy the rockets or burning kites Hamas doesn’t stop. So they do.
        And then Hamas starts again.
        Every ceasefire has been broken by Hamas.
        Why doesn’t Hamas keep the ceasefire and stop?
        
        Why don’t you just admit the truth that Hamas never wants the war to stop because they want to continue being an oppressive dictatorship enriching themselves from all the money which flows their way.
