    To those who know about what Lauda Finem has been used for, where hundreds of people including judges, lawyers, politicians, business people, businesses and others have been attacked, defamed, harassed and have had false accusations made about them, and personal details published, and who wanted confirmation of who one of the operators was, then the context will be obvious.
    
    To anyone else it’s probably of no importance – perhaps until they find out the rest of the story, of who else was involved.

Let it sink in that if I white person made the same claim about their homeland, they’d be liable to be accused of a hate crime or the more recent “non-crime hate incidents” (I’m not kidding) whereas it is perfectly OK (AND normal) for any non-white leader of a country to have their country maintain the same historical ethnic makeup.

Also let it sink in that the people who control the MSM were labelling the Swedish Democrats as “Nazi” merely for proposing to reduce the rate of immigration/Swedish people being race replaced.

      As a Buddhist (yes really) I think the Dalai Lama is totally deluded and he comes from (as you so rightly point out) a theocratic shithole.
      
      There was nothing in Buddha’s actual teachings to support the idiotic idea that the Bodhisattva is constantly being reincarnated as a Tibetan and that his latest incarnation can be identified as a small Tibetan child living out in the styx. Also, the ridiculous Tibetan ideas about forest spirits, God worship, prayer wheels and so on run totally counter to almost everything that Buddha taught.
      
      As a Buddhist, I should point out these examples of delusion with compassion and tolerance if course….. but the other side of my nature is to write him off as a complete fuckwit who has done nothing useful in his life. The man’s an idiot and the best thing that happened for Tibet was to be taken over (or, reclaimed if you will) by China.

      With all the wonderful Japanese food around them, these tourists instinctively reached for what was the most familiar and comforting to them.

        In terms of civil wars – they erupt along political, economic, religious, or ethnocultural lines. The history of most countries (even Japan) contains power struggles that could be called civil wars .
        
        I guess if you lived somewhere were everyone had the same political/religious/cultural views then there would be nothing to fight about, but isn’t that the sort of thing that the USSR was trying to do – is that really what you are advocating?

        On the other hand, nations containing segments that hate and despise one another (pre-partition India, for example) can lunge towards civil war.
        Of course, this is a gross oversimplification.
        
        So, if we’re all the same, we tend to fear and hate people who are different to us. On the other hand, if we are all different, then we may not get along.
        
        Getting to know people as individuals and seeking to avoid identity politics are the only solutions.

        Sure, I was just thinking about your hypothetical examples.
        For civil wars, it *usually* isn’t a issue of “diversity” but a binary sort of thing – not so much ABC as much as AB – Royalists vs Republicans, Catholic vs Protestant, North vs South (US), Red Russians vs White Russians, Republican vs Nationalists (Spain). You could even argue that a situation where you had ABCD mixed throughout a nation would be relatively stable so long as no one group was strong enough to challenge the others.
        Just idle musings, no barrow to push.

        Actually, thinking about it a little bit more, you could probably divide civil wars into two main categories.
        
        First, you have civil wars where one group wants to separate from the others – you don’t have AB as much as A/B (e.g., the South wanting to leave the North, the Indian partition to some extent, Ireland leaving the UK). These are more like wars between nations and may or may not end up creating separate nations. The original grouping into one nation has often been imposed and maintained by some sort of empire building at some point or another, I’m guessing?
        
        Second, you have civil wars where A and B are mixed throughout the population. The goal is to dominate the whole country (e.g., Royalists vs Republicans, Catholic vs Protestant, Red Russians vs White Russians, Republican vs Nationalists (Spain), wars to be Shogun).
        
        If some history buff wants to correct me, feel free – I’m making this up as I go.

Today we hear that our” Nearly” PM Ardern has done it again. “Running Scared Afraid to Show”,on TVNZs Q@A or Newshubs Nation show similar to TVNZ. Whats going on . Will the self appointed NZs Claytons PM wee man Peters fill the same broadcasting slot,maybe.

  Right krazykiwi but don’t be too swayed by what WO thinks of Dr Nick Smith as he is a very hard working elected member who has strong support from many constituents whether they vote Red or Blue. Plus as a senior member of the opposition he sets a great example of how things work in the House as well as how to pose questions. It speaks a lot about the Bridges style of leadership as he has gauged the strengths of his key team members as well as some newer members who also show promise.
  There biggest challenge has been how to pin down Ministers who do everything to avoid any semblance of an answer. Luckily the Government have not yet got to understand the more they waffle the sillier they look. Thus where before they turned to their audience seated around them only to find it is not the last laugh as it gets repeated or as is increasingly happening the Speaker tells them to “have another go”.
  There is no claims of being new to the role of opposition since there has never been a Government like this in NZ history who seem happy to self harm. It is reaching masochistic proportions as they seek personal glory while trying to make it look like a comedy act. The best is yet to come.

  Look at what is happening here
  1. Constant incompetence of the government;
  2. Business confidence has been flushed away;
  3. Economic forecasts are starting to turn south (not a good sign or something to crow about)
  
  All of which will lead NZ to where it doesn’t want to be. Then the support of the soft blue votes will turn against the SLG and the Toxic Gnome. None of which gives me any comfort to write, but I’ve seen it before.

  Right DigNap15 but the country is a sort of seemingly safe lull period not unlike a tax bracket creep ahead of the inflationary effects of poor policy kicking in. Even early fuel price rises felt by the public at the pumps have yet to flow on to increased costs for almost everything which will see inflation driving interest rates up. That is a “when” and not an “if” so in the mean time things can look quite peachy which incidental also have short shelf life.
  We have to marvel at those Greeks though as they think they have found perhaps an ancient law from their vast history. They are attempting to increase interest rates to COMBAT inflation that is spiraling out of control. Could this be a sweet cheek strategy when inflation does start to spiral?

NZ First’s constitution requires its MPs to pay a fine of up to $300,000 if they are expelled or resign from the caucus, but stay on in Parliament.
Mr Peters last month said his MPs had all signed up, but he now says his memory was wrong.

  Last year I was in Seward Alaska. Went to Exit Glacier. All of the usual bullshit was there, markers to show the years where the ice was back to the 1930s. What the didn’t tell you is this Glacier has been receding since before the industrial revolution – that does not fit the narrative

      I work with several Maori people and two of the guys have very hard names to pronounce, I do my best, but I always feel bad that I cannot get it right.

You would think in Maori Language Week that we would get a few words right…
Like IGNORANT… but it seems it has flexible interpretations in Te Reo.

Hon Kelvin Davis: There is an issue, though, when someone speaks Māori—there’s a difference between the translation and the interpretation. So there are some words that can be translated in more than one way. And so there is the issue around the interpretation of what I said. I think I know the answer that he was referring to, which was one that Minister Jones put to me, and there was a word I used that can be interpreted as “ignorant”. I’m not sure what the translation said, but the translation could well have been a word that was a lot more harsh. But I’m not responsible for the translation of what I say.

SPEAKER: Order! I’m on my feet. This has highlighted an area where there is a potential for some problems. We all know that as translations or interpretation is occurring, both into New Zealand Sign Language and into Māori, or from Māori to English, there is often a speed of discussion which people who are doing the interpretation are struggling to keep up with, because obviously the members who are talking know what they’re going to say, but it’s slightly unpredictable to people who are doing simultaneous translation. And anyone who has even a modicum of understanding of Māori language and is listening to the interpretation will understand that occasionally there are interpretations which are not quite what one would expect to occur, and I think we do go with that. I’ll certainly accept the word of Mr Davis, that he thought it was possible that a harsher interpretation was given to a particular word that he used—harsher than what he would’ve given if he had been doing the interpretation—and while the interpretation might have been out of order, the actual original comments were not. I say to Mr Brownlee that while I’m trying very hard, one thing that is impossible for me to do with my level of language skills is to second-guess the interpretations, even a day later.

The Scholastic Aptitude Test in the USA is a highly correlated (>0.8) proxy for IQ testing (and general intelligence ‘g’) used for college placement. SAT standard deviation is about 194. IQ standard deviation is 15

That points to an average IQ difference of about 12 points. Black kids from the richest (generally smartest parents) black families with every advantage only matched white kids from the poorest (generally thickest parents) white families.

This is yet more proof that the gap is genetic, it can’t be fixed by anything done after conception.

Former Radio NZ chairman and long-time political scribbler, Dick Griffin, who had the nickname the Silver Fox, writes in Stuff about the demise of Calamity-Clare Curran.

I can’t see much new in his article, except that it reinforces my view that Wily Willie Jackson, now a Cabinet Minister, easily stitched up Griffin and his fellow Radio NZ directors by getting an agreement to Maorify the State broadcaster.

Since then Radio NZ has moved staunchly into using Maori language and backing Maori causes.

Email from the Taxpayer Union:

This week we were contacted by a staffer at the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment concerned about a secret new deal which sees taxpayers paying bonuses to bureaucrats for joining a union.

We have been leaked this email, from the Public Service Association to all MBIE staff. It reveals that, as a result of recent pay negotiations, MBIE will pay a one-off $500 bonus to PSA members.

Public sector workers bribed into joining the union. Utterly disgusting.

  This isn’t unusual or new.
  Another large Government agency pays an annual lump sum amount to PSA member employees as part of the collective agreement.
  The amount is generally about the same as a PSA members annual union fees – so they are essentially having their union fees repaid back to them in a taxed lump-sum payment as part of their annual package.
  
  But this is not a new thing – it has been happening for years.

    OK – so I’ve just seen the email that was sent to MBIE staff.
    
    The $500 (gross) is clearly a bonus one-off payment made only to those that join the PSA before 20th September. It doesn’t make it clear if it will be paid to existing PSA members. It is spoken of as part of a package of gains that the PSA has won in its negotiations for the MBIE collective agreement.
    
    However, in this context it would appear to be a blatant bribe, paid by taxpayers, to get public servants to join the PSA.
    
    To me that is out and out corruption.
    The Taxpayers Association is also claiming it was signed off and approved by the Minister – whereas normally such an employment issue would be handled at management level.

    It should be no surprise that the PSA seeks specific benefits for its members and tries to minimise the free-rider effect.
    For years, the game has been to weaken the union, but apply the pay and conditions negotiated with said weakened union to all the other staff. So if the PSA negotiate a pay rise for members, the department give the same rise to everyone else. This reduces the incentive for workers to join the union and thus weakens the overall bargaining position of all the employees.
    A one-off payment to the union members mitigates this, a little.

      If the union wants to incentivise membership – it should either:
      – make it more attractive to become a member
      – pay the bonuses themselves – even by way of a rebate on membership dues

        It’s part of a remuneration package negotiated with the employer. Would it be any different if the union negotiated a 1.1% pay rise instyead of a 1% granted to other employees.
        Kiwibloggers generally support individual bargaining over collective deals, so should have no difficulty in understanding that any MBIE employee can march in to the boss and demand to renegotiate his or her own contract to include the extra $500.

        I would have no problem with them negotiating a 1.1% increase. But in this case they have negotiated a one-off lump-sum gross payment paid only on condition of joining the PSA.
        That is not an employment package negotiation – it is a bribe.
        As I say – if this is what the PSA needs to encourage membership, maybe they need to take a look at how ineffectual they are at attracting members and do something about it, rather than off-loading the cost onto taxpayers.
        
        I admire you defending the indefensible – I would make a calculated guess that you are a delegate.

        Everything a public sector union gets for its members is a cost ‘off-loaded’ onto taxpayers.
        You want to call a one-off payment a ‘bribe’. MBIE and the PSA would probably call it an incentive for members as they develop a more productive relationship between the department and its staff.

Maori language funding failing

I’d like to see that funding go towards getting Maori to speak English properly, and learn science and maths.

The Stuff newspaper chain has stepped up its campaign against fertilising our farms with phosphate from the disputed region of Morocco.

Stuff has now published an editorial opposing the imports, and quoted one Erik Hagen, of Western Saharan Resource Watch.

And our own Socialist Cindy’s name comes into the discussion, mentioning the region’s inhabitants:

The Productivity Commission has signalled the need for dramatic land-use shifts and changes in primary production to combat climate change.

NZ for 40 or so years has been in a deficit on balance of payments. Kill our present farming, and what export industries will save the country economically?

Personally, I could care less about Morocco & their political problems. We buy phosphate from a source sanctioned by their government in a similar way as we buy poorly manufactured crap from China whose politics we don’t endorse.

Of more concern is the contaminants in the phosphate. Phosphate rock is not a pure source of phosphorus…..it contains nasties such as cadmium, fluorine & uranium. While these are present in small quantities they can build up in our soil.

I don’t pretend to know the answer & the problem isn’t peculiar to NZ. If the world is to feed itself phosphorous levels in pastoral & agricultural soil must be maintained. Going Green isn’t an option because there is no natural alternative to phosphate fertiliser.

But some knowall will hold up a placard outside parliament & convince the halfwits to pass another half baked law or introduce another tax.
