According to Winston just a few short weeks ago the needs of 50000 homeless New Zealanders took priority over refugees. Now Winnie is welcoming more refugees.
Obviously there are no homeless people left in Aotearoa. This government are miracle workers.

      Right kevn there is going to be a price paid again by the taxpayer for old Winston First to get back on board. The silly little girl is an a high in anticipation of her big event at the UN and as always lets things slip in all the excitement. Today numerating not just the latest person promotional move of lifting refugee numbers (in 2 years..shhh) for kudos in that area of UN concern. She also blurted out how the earlier O&G Captains call would help her addressing fans of global warming at the UN. The whole path she is following is an orchestrated promotional pitch for her benefit propped up with support from the old drunk. Many will also note that the baby picture restrictions from the Speaker do not extend beyond our shores. It reverts to the baby being an essential accessory required for this trip needing also some self propelled baggage. Then we get this gem from her: “For me, it’s about making sure I’m the best representative for New Zealand I can be while abroad.” Could it be a lucky break for NZ that as the the COL cracks right apart before she is exposed by figuring prominently in the Hardley fiasco the UN throw her a lifeline?

    I read comments elsewhere that the bargaining chip may be electoral reform. This could entail lowering the current 5% threshold or letting 16 & 17 years olds vote. This is speculation but Labour have hinted this year that they want 16 year olds voting.

  Unfortunately they are going to be here after all. Can I just make a request that the government find social housing for them in Auckland near where Jacinda lives? Then she can personally go over and see them and bring them cups of tea and ham sandwiches. What can possibly go wrong?

      But waikatogirl while some fit your image of them unfortunately not all do. Ahead that though is the biggest hurdle of all since those that make up the refugees we receive are only UN approved. Don’t think white SA displaced people have been recognized or supported by the UN. It is however great virtue signalling for the silly little girl who is leaning heavily on this to have petals spread across her path in the UN as they all sing Kumbaya.

Two doctors who studied geriatrics were watching Winston hobbling down the pavement outside the Green Parrot and noticed he was going very slow with his legs spread apart, and he was hardly bending his knees.
The first doctor said, “Looks like a serious orthopedic gait disorder. He’s probably exhibiting early stages of Parkinsonism.”
The other doctor didn’t agree. “No, I suspect it’s just arthritis. But he may be suffering from the adverse effects of medications due to polypharmacy including perhaps sedatives.”
“I still believe it’s probably Parkinsonism. He is walking too slow, and his legs are jiggling a bit and too far apart,” said the first doctor.
“But, it may be due to adverse effects from too many medications,” said the other doc.
“Perhaps, but I’ll bet you a lunch on my analysis. Let’s go politely ask him to see whose analysis is the closest to his condition.”
They approached Winston and said, “Please excuse us. We are geriatric doctors and do research and noticed your slow tedious and careful walk. We couldn’t agree on possible causes of your condition. Would you mind sharing with us what condition you have?”
Winston replied, “I’ll tell you what is wrong with me, but I would like to hear your thoughts first. Then, I’ll tell you if you are correct or not.”
The first doctor said, “I believe you may be suffering from the early stages of Parkinson’s disease. Or, a problem with your central nervous system?”
“Sorry, but you have guessed wrong,” said Winston.
The second doctor said, “I believe it’s probably just arthritis you suffer from? Or, perhaps adverse effects from over indulging in the drink?”
“Sorry, but you have guessed wrong also.”
“Well, please tell what condition you have?”
Winston smiled, “I suspected I was going to fart…but I guessed wrong too.”

Cindy: Thanks Mike, yes they are a great band, one of my favourites, and I’m sure most kiwis are grateful this government’s strong policies attract acts like these to Aotearoa. National had nine years and it didn’t happen.

So we treat these pricks to a luxury that a poor pensioner can only dream about. This woman is looking at getting even more millions from the taxpayer for new buildings. Fuck you Winston.

  Why is that Aussie woman Thomas still Vice-Chancellor at Massey University? Her actions in question were an appalling assault on freedom of speech and association in our country, but Massey fails to face reality and to act on principle.
  
  When will other members of Massey’s University Council (four of those appointments able to be made by the Vice-Chancellor herself) do their duty to this taxpayer-funded institution and start the process of restoring its seriously-damaged reputation? Formal notice* of Ms Thomas’s termination of employment is long overdue.

        Awatere’s father died in jail in 1976. He was there for murder. A very savage killing with a knife that left blood of the victim on the ceiling.
        
        This murder was in 1969 and it was pretty difficult to get a murder conviction as NZ preferred to keep the ‘murder ‘ count down. Eg David Tamihere got a manslaughter conviction for the killing of a prostitute in 1972.

        By way of note, chubby old Robertson benefited from crime.
        He was in living Dunedin and went to Otago Uni.
        He would not have qualified for full bursary as he was local but because his father was convicted and went to jail the family lost the income stream (plus bonuses from the ‘theft as a servant’ his father engaged in)
        As a consequence Robertson received the full bursary even though he was still ‘living at home’.
        This was on one of his profiles last year. Can’t find it now. Mmm.
        
        Grant Robertson benefited from criminal activity.
        It is interesting to note that his first role when he finally left university was doling out taxpayer money to Samoa from a multimillion dollar fund.

  If the winning numbers had been 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 and 11 I suspect you would have been down to about $2,500 and I have heard that 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 would return about $700.

    I don’t get the many references to release of Ms Curran’s correspondence under the OIA. It looks like an attempt to weasel out of an early release by staying within the OIA timing requirement. Hoping that the issue will have died a death by then.
    
    In fact the clock starting ticking at least last week, maybe earlier when the first release requests were made.

And, of course, this press release does not detail what must have been conceded to Winston for him to agree to the change in refugee stance, so Cindy Show Pony can go virtual signal to virtually everyone at the United Nations end of this week – if she has the temerity to admit New Zealand will take an extra 500 refugees, being 1/7000th of what Turkey has taken.
Winston must realise how stupid that looks, so what other motivation changed his stance?

It is interesting watching Zuma being thrown under the bus in South Africa.

During the 9 years under Zuma (2009-2018), the Rand dropped in value from about USD11c to USD6c. That’s a loss of less than 50% of its value in 9 years. About 5% per year.

During the Mandela years (1994-1999) it dropped from USD30c to USD16c. That’s also a loss of 50%, but in 5 years – about 10% per year.

But nope, nobody can say anything bad about Mandela!

The crazy thing when people start getting so desperate is that they pin false hopes on any change. Zuma was terrible, anything will be better… except Ramaphosa is really no better.

Zuma was corrupt, but was obvious. He just put his hands in the till and took what he wanted. Ramaphosa is ten times as corrupt, but he does it “legally” by being a “businessman”.

The whole Handley situation gets more murky by the day, and the PM is now front and centre of that murkiness. Mike Hosking ripped into her and her Ministers this morning, and the story isn’t going to go away any time soon, even with her trip to the UN.

Hopefully one of National’s senior Ministers will make a formal complaint to the Speaker about Labour’s failure to comply with his direction that they produce the gmails yesterday.

In the old days, and maybe still, anyone wanting a senior government job in China had to pass a pretty rigorous exam. Perhaps we need something like that in NZ.

You need a hairdressing diploma to do a haircut, but you can be an MP deciding all sorts of stuff with basically no qualification at all.

Many of our MPs (including our PM) lack fundamental understanding of many issues (basic statistics, economic indicators, basic law, etc), yet they command billions of dollars, policies determining the lives of millions and writing laws.

That cannot be a good thing.

I propose we:
1) Have an examination which everyone must sit before getting a nomination as either a list or an electoral MP. First prize apply it to all senior bureaucrats (commissioners, heads of race relations etc).
2) their score be made public and be printed alongside their name in all party lists, election forms etc.
3) any person can take the exam to be able to get a sense of how bright the MPs are relative to themselves, but they keep these scores private.

Minimum stuff that is required:
1) understanding basic statistics: what is percentage, what is statistical significance, what’s the difference between them.
2) basic logic: cause and effect, solve basic logic puzzles.
3) basic economics: what do GDP and GNP mean and how do they differ? What is deficit and debt and how do they differ? Compound interest. Price elasticity, margins, what a balance sheet means.
4) some basic chemistry/physics like what CO2 is, how it reacts with things etc.
5) Understanding how a law is constructed, how to read one and how to write a good one.

At least in Wellington, I come across professional women who look like they buy their business wardrobe at the warehouse. And yes I have tested this observation with my female colleagues, and they agree it is a thing. But none of us could figure the drivers.

Britain’s Muslims are campaigning to have the son of the American evangelist, Billy Graham, banned from Britain.

Franklin Graham, the president of Samaritan’s Purse and the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, is scheduled to lead a series of religious gatherings this month.

The Muslims are accusing Franklin Graham of hate speech.

The Muslim Council of Britain said in a statemen to the Guardian:“In the past the government has banned individuals whom they claim are ‘not conducive to the public good’. Mr Graham’s remarks are on record and clearly demonstrate a hatred for Muslims and other minorities.”

The American Conservative commentator Todd Starnes reports Franklin Graham as saying:

““I’m not coming to speak against anyone; I’m not there to speak against Islam or against gays,” he told the publication. “I want to invite the Muslims to come, I want Christians to come, I want gays to come and to listen to what God has to say. It’s an open invitation.”

  Right wreck1080 again we see the rush to create confusion over a very embarrassing blunder made by the silly little girl. The true situation was revealed as soon as Stats NZ used the term “embargo” indicating that the Government had the figures in advance of the official release. Unfortunately sweet cheeks could not contain his excitement and rushed to the SLG to get a stamp on the hand. Big mistake with her confused state of mind let it slip in a phone interview which for her as dangerous as a face to face.
  We do need to join the dots from her earlier disappointment expressed in the delay of the Family Package showing up in the figures which was indications of it being a hot topic in their circle. Like being confused about what GDP is she did not understand much about that relationship apart of the clever things sweet cheeks would say. In her state under pressure was desperate to say something that got sweet cheeks so excited must be good so blurted it out missing the more important aspect of timing and not understanding why they are embargoed.

Jacinda Ardern features in Homes to Love talking about her favourite building in NZ – the Freemans Bay Apartments. “t I also like what it represents. These were built as social housing and for the first time we had apartments that were designed for whole families to live in. You can see it in the design: they had separate laundries and pretty decent-sized kitchens and even though they were roughly 70 square metres, you can tell by the land around them that these were places where families were meant to be brought up. I love them for that.” Question is why didn’t Jacinda and Clarke buy a house that represented their values. Why didn’t they buy a house in a four story mediums density blocks shared with a mixed community of Housing NZ and real families. Instead they’ve bought a standalone home in an affluent neighbourhood with a fenced backyard.

      Wow! So this will be interesting. So surely on a lifestyle block only the extra land will be taxed and how will they determine that value. If you can’t subdivide your section then most of the value is in the land around your house anyways. The difference in price between 2 and 3 acres is small if the unitary plan says you can’t subdivide. Don’t know why we’ve been busy restoring the land and busting a gut building a business – should have got a job at a sweet job at a multinational and spent my money on holidays and fine dining.

      They seem very keen on CGT because of ‘fairness’ issues, and because they believe that rich pricks are the main investors: “17. Evidence from overseas and data on wealth in
      New Zealand suggests that capital gains are
      concentrated amongst those with high incomes
      and wealth. Including more capital gains in
      the tax system is likely to be the most feasible
      way to make the tax system more progressive
      without increasing tax rates.”
      
      Doesn’t sound like Mum and Dad landlords with a little rental to me!
      
      But then they also write:
      
      “27. The Group is of the view that the housing
      market impacts are unlikely to be large, but it
      may be expected that rents will rise over time,
      and house prices will be lower, relative to the
      status quo. However, the Group’s view is that
      tax has not played a large role in the current
      state of New Zealand’s housing market, and will
      be unlikely to play a large role in fixing it. The
      potential effects on housing affordability are
      commented on more fully in Chapter 8”
      
      And get this: if rents increase, the CGT can help pay for that – what a roundabout:
      
      “28. If the Government ultimately does seek
      to increase the taxation of the residential
      property sector in whatever form, rents should
      be monitored. The Group’s view is that the
      Government could consider using some of
      the revenue to mitigate the impact on renters
      (increased accommodation supplements for low

Despite opposition in submission numbers, Victoria University of Wellington has recommended to the university council that it proceed with dropping “Victoria” from its name.

Gwynn Thompson, who organised a petition against the change, says 75 per cent of submissions opposed the name change, but the university counted submissions in a way to underplay opposition.

Thompson says that if the university had counted the 6128 signatures on the petition as submissions, allowing for duplication with those who made individual submissions, opposition to the name change would be 92 per cent.

For those who are interested, the university council, which on Monday will again look at the name change issue comprises: Neil Paviour-Smith (chairman), managing director of share broker Forsyth Barr; Dame Therese Walsh, chariman of TVNZ; Professor Grant Guilford, the university’s vice-chancellor; John Allen, chief executive of the NZ Racing Board; Robyn Bargh, former managing director of Huia Publishing; Alan Judge, former chair of the accounting firm EY New Zealand; Isabella Lenihan-Ikin, of the Students’ Association; Traci Houpapa, described as “specialising in strategic and development advice to Maori, iwi, public and private sector clients”; Kate Hunter, history lecturer; Carwyn Jones, law lecturer; Alexandria Mark, a recent law graduate from the university; and Farib Sos, a former lecturer at the Open Polytechnic and the Whitireia Community Polytechnic and a former chairman of Volunteer Service Abroad.

If the university council again decides in favour of dropping “Victoria” from the university’s name, the Minister of Education, Chris Hipkins will make the final decision.

We have been unable to locate him.
We asked Parliamentary Service if Mr Davis is still on payroll.
They gave us a straighter answer than Curran or Ardern ever would.
They said he is still being paid but , come to think of it, there has been no proof of life in the last two months .
They will look into it but have so many in witless protection that it is neither clear nor transparent who is still around to make decisions.

But Ardern has delayed the sacking until she can scuttle out of the country safe in the knowledge that over the next week our MSM will fill up the airwaves and newspapers with

I disagree with much that’s in the Guardian, but this is an interesting article, and right in parts …

The push of ever-more young people into British university education is a huge con, writes Aditya Chakrabortty in the Guardian.

He describes the British universities, with an annual income of about $NZ66 billion, as a large lobby group and “perhaps the only industry whose growth has been explicitly mandated by prime ministers of all stripes.”

However, male graduates of 23 universities still earn less on average than non-graduates a whole decade after going into the work force, Chakrabortty writes.

Something similar is happening in NZ. Vocational training has been neglected, leading to a huge shortage of tradies and many other skills. We no longer train farm workers the way we used to, and have eroded the traditional path to farm ownership of cadet, worker, contractor.

We are pushing too many people into universities and saddling them with student debt, and meanwhile bring in tens of thousands of young foreigners to work. First it’s the petrol pumpers and pizza parlour staff. Next it will be the tradies.

It’s not because they are brighter that the new citizens will end up richer than young New Zealanders. It’s because they aren’t saddled with the same debt and false expectations, and because they haven’t been conned.

The reason it got this way is, first, that some people are making money out of it: university administrators, the immigration industry, private colleges, the hodge-podge of small businesses around universities, student-flat landlords …

The second reason is that successive governments have promoted this path for our young people. The worst instance is the current coalition’s free first-year at tertiary institutions. The money should have gone into subsidising apprenticeships.
