        Now has one…every single one!!!!!!!!!
        2. My parents (early 70’s) earned too much for a state loan (by 1%), not enough for a bank load, also for a bank loan they needed 1, a substantial min, deposit. 2. A LONG banking history.
        They managed it by working hard, going without any form of luxury (almost nothing new in their whole house) saved an even bigger deposit and bought their house.
        3. In the 80’s We were paying my and sometimes more than my ENTIRE wages to pay the mortgage, my wife had to work for us to pay the rest of the bills.
        With holidays abroad costing less now
        Cars costing less now (compared to wages)
        All manner of LUXURIES (cell phones etc) being cheaper compared to wages, young people have come to call these thing necessities instead of what they are LUXURIES.
        Stop spending on luxuries, start focusing and saving for your home and you will have it.
        Just like everyone that went before you, including the youngsters that cried on my shoulder.

        Well let’s look at this! My 27 year old has just (this week) paid off her student loan. Today she and her husband of one year are doing the pre settlement inspection on their NEW home in Auckland, moving in during October.
        
        Compared to me… I rented for the first 10 years of my married life, before I could afford to buy a house. I sold that and wasn’t able to buy another (my current) one for 6 years. This is a 1970’s x-state house that I still owe more on than my daughter will owe on her new house.
        With a lot of hard work and careful budgeting I may just be able to pay off my mortgage within 15 years, about 5 years after I retire!
        
        So quit with all the media and leftist hype, it’s possible for young people to buy a house if they have any financial sense and discipline. Two things that are sorely lacking in most young people!

        My “kid” cannot afford to live in Ponsonby, as much as she would like to.
        
        Perhaps you should be teaching your “kid” to either buy somewhere they can afford, or adjust their income to match their aspirations !
        
        There are plenty of affordable houses out there, but many of our “kids” aspire to something they are incapable of achieving, that is not the fault of government or society. The blame rests with parenting that ignores reality !

      I’m one of four brothers, all of the generation you speak of, Padriv.
      
      Two went into the trades and were home owners in Wellington by 24.
      
      I’m 32 and about to build a new house in Auckland (I’m single, so it’s just my income). Obviously I had to wait longer because Auckland, and I also chose to study (in a field which has set me up for life).
      
      The oldest is 34 and has no savings, and frankly spent too long making enemies and chasing fast women. He may never own a house, though he has settled now and I hope he can find a way to.
      
      Our baby boomer parents own their own home but will probably have to downsize to retire. Certainly none of us were given money towards out first homes.
      
      Life is what you make of it. Houses are too expensive, yes. But is the market insurmountable? Definitely not. Have Chinese contributed to higher prices? Maybe, but so have my yuppie colleagues.

        And you forget to point out that your baby boomer parents very likely, like me, lived through a period when mortgage interest rates soared into the mid 20s of percentage points.
        
        We coped.
        
        We certainly didn’t demand ‘instant’ gratification for our housing needs: we saved (forgoing the modern ‘must-haves’ of Sky and the Internet, to name just two) … and got there in the end.
        
        Agreed re the Chinese, too. Those who decry the Asianification of Auckland are just the types that want New Zealand to revert to the protectionist world of the Seventies and before. Remember those days:
        ‘Let’s have takeaways! The choice is:
        A. Fish N Chips
        B. Fish N Chips from the other Fish N Chips store
        C. Chips … with Fish’
        
        Now we have all sorts of options.

        Biscuit, absolutely. My parents bought an ex-state house in a nice area in 1983, with some very steep interest rates. They sold their Datsun 1600 SSS and Mitsubishi Celeste to help raise the deposit (the love of cars never left though!)
        
        Dad was a toolmaker and spent evenings and weekends building onto it and turning it into a 5 bedroom, three bathroom house. He would have never been able to afford to pay someone to build that for us. It was the 1980s and he worked in manufacturing, which made everything that big more precarious.
        
        In the 1990s they made an even bigger sacrifice and doubled their mortgage so we could be in a better school zone. Once again, bought a dive, built on, one of the nicest in the street now.
        
        If they can now sell that house for a couple of million to an Asian, an Aussie, a Swiss, or a Kiwi, I’d say they well deserve it.

It will be incredibly interesting if they hold up, regardless of the selection bias and the doctoring that Mr Chisala has engaged in. Needs another 15 years. Let’s see if the results replicate at the A-levels and university, without total destruction of standards as occurred with GCSE.
        
        Maybe Boomers will understand when Jeremy Corbyn is Prime Minister of Britain, and Bernie Sanders is President of the United States, if it even exists by the end of Trump’s second term. Anyway enough from me.

    Well I guess you associate and have bred a bunch of losers. I have thre children, all own their own homes and are student loan free. Their wives/partners have also cleared their loans and yes, they are all well educated and motivated, not your typical labour whinger that wants all off what others have for no effort.
    
    Was it tough, yes and the years at university were hard, gaining a good education and working at whatever jobs could help them pay the bills.
    
    Did i say motivated or is that a dirty word in the lazy labour brigade? Much better to sit around and whinge until someone comes along and does the hard yards so you and your thieving mates can come along and take it off them.
    
    Keep waiting but stay in the gutter where you belong.

      Yes my three are all in stable relationships and have mortgages and in demand jobs, eldest (m) had first child after 30, youngest two, (m) and (f), now mid to late 20’s and haven’t had children yet.
      
      Contrast that with myself who had first mortgage at 21, first child at 17 and haven’t had a high tolerance for relationships, especially when it gets to around the time that if you split that you have to give some one half your stuff.
      
      They have all entered into mortgages and homes with their partners, far more equitable.

      More like that in our late teens and perhaps early 20’s, many of us (I know I did on a few occasions, just a few) got hammered at a party where there were others (male and female) present and we may not have behaved exactly like angels. We may also have a fairly hazy remembrance of what happened.
      
      If someone wanted to create a lot of trouble for basically anyone, all they have to do is “remember” an incident where, say, you (the target), inappropriately touched someone at one of these parties. No evidence needed, just have a victim who only needs to remember that it was you, can’t be sure when (or even the year), where (aparty at someone’s house). You can even provide the names of a number of witnesses who can all claim that they remember nothing like that at all and that isn’t important. In fact, it helps because not only can it be claimed that the trauma of the incident made the accuser forget the circumstances, but that the lack of trauma is why the “witnesses” forgot – and be believed ! (by some, or by some who claim to believe).
      
      And just to get a bit of extra icing on the cake, when you, the target, get angry at this ridiculous charade, that you get angry is further proof that you are unsuited to role you are being proposed for.
      
      You don’t need to be a rapist, you don’t need to have done anything at all, you just need to be male, but most importantly, you just need to be a progressive TARGET

    All the people who could be seen were the hangers on and the NZ media on the outsides at the back.

  But igm again it was staged, structured and managed all to try and make the silly little girl look good to the UN included the baby crying on cue. Unfortunately it was as big an event of her media appearances playing to a very limited audience. As always carefully worded to appeal directly to the live audience while forgetting the much wider group who might only see the start. Then seeing the level of attendance knew it did not warrant further viewing thus reducing that potential audience as well. Meanwhile back home the Media party were as usual hanging on every word while the real people heard it start with gibberish and ended the same way. Her visions for the world are as hollow as her visions for NZ where an increasingly growing number have decided “we can get along without her” fine.

Problems to a large degree are the direct result of poor personal choices and actions while rejecting any responsibility. Even worse is that while there is need for a degree of empathy there is far less tolerance for stupidity. Made worse by the the same attitude being employed within the COL as they too have become adept at ducking responsibility that is diluting their credibility.   I have not heard a word she says. the moment her voice comes on the radio I hit the off button. The only time I might indulge her is when Hoskin asks her questions. When Soper plays bits, it’s the off button. Now, am I missing anything important? I have also never looked at a single picture of her baby. ( I never watch TV either, so I haven’t seen much of the fawning…). Could I be missing out on stuff that could stunt my emotional intelligence? Asking for a friend.

Even many women who have sons, daughters, husbands and family will flatly reject such a blatant hit job on any individual based on an unsubstantiated accusation.
      Only jury call was for a case of sexual assault brought by a female employee against her boss. When we reached the jury room a woman with attitude tried to take control standing by a whiteboard she had drawn two columns on to list “evidence”. The reaction of the rest of the jury was to just completely ignore her and start getting down to the “facts”. It was a false accusation and of no consolation to the accused he was acquitted as we know how mud sticks and he would have to live with it for longer that any penalty he might have attracted for a guilty verdict.

He was in tears, having to defend his honor, saying that his life has been ruined by this and he may not ever be able to teach again or coach his daughters’ basketball teams, etc. Very emotional.

So while the media fawns over Jacinda at the UN, Democracy died in this country last night with the passing of the so called electoral integrity act.

Allowable Dissent is a vital component of any well functioning democracy. It makes the government work to find a consensus rather than run roughshod over the people that elected them to govern.

    Whaitiri’s victim has medical evidence, photographs, exact knowledge of where and when, and there are witnesses who can be named and who agree that they were present.
    
    Cosby had numerous allegations against him, and some of them had contemporary complaints, medical evidence, and all could remember where and when. Plus there was a trial and he was found guilty.
    
    Weinstein the same, numerous allegations, people could name times and places, and there are contemporary witnesses who agree that they were present for some of the complaints. He has not, I don’t think, been formally charged yet bu several prosecutors have announced that they are considering it.
    
    Kavanaugh’s accuser cannot remember where or when, she named 4 witnesses – ALL of whom provide zero support for her claim and under oath (and she threw her only female witness, her supposed “best friend” under the bus saying she had health issues that she needed to attend to). Plus the alleged offenses took place 30-40 years ago, no medical evidence. It is hard to see how one could investigate anything.
    
    And Ford is by far the most “credible” accuser that the Democrats have been able to find and pay.

    Blasey Ford, as a psychologist, of all people, should be aware of the considerable fallibility of memory, especially at a distance. Her declaration of “100% certainty” is, to me, suggestive of an attachment to the emotion rather than to the fact: this is not uncommon on the part of those who have been emotionally traumatised in one way or another. The more that they are challenged on their recollection, the more they convince themselves of the accuracy of it, and the more obdurate their stance. Their certainty can readily infect others, who rally to the cause; again, particularly if they have an emotional investment in it. I’d treat her claims with great scepticism.
    And yes, I do consider myself to be an expert in this regard, having practised psychiatry, as a specialist, for nearly forty years.

We must speak for those who do not have voice”, when Jacinda spoke these words at the UN General Assembly during the Nelson Mandela Peace Summit, while Clarke held Neve, she not only channeled a new type of leadership based on kindness and compassion, she challenged every stereotype that has locked women and men into the career or family trap. They showed everyone that with support, people can have family and career.

She has also shown the planet that leadership doesn’t require brutal tough guy masculinity, there can be an equally strong leadership through simple kindness. She has done more for our international standing in one appearance than many Prime Ministers manage in a lifetime. We should all feel a deep pride in the way Jacinda, Clarke and Neve have shone and represented us on the global stage. Their humble grace reminds us all of our basic humanity. There is a joy in all of this and we should all drink deeply from it, this is a moment where we are all included and have all been served wonderfully by our Prime Minister and her family.

We can get back to arguing and bickering about politics tomorrow, but today was truly special.

From this day on the Supreme Court nomination process will forever be tarnished, when the next nomination takes place and if the Democrats are in power, or Republicans, it will just end in allegations of corruption, sexual abuse and anything else that can put doubt into publics mind (true or false). What it ends up being is that NO ONE will actually want to be nominated as they know that they will be subjected to character assassination and claims from 10-40 years in their past.
No matter what side you support, left or right, the damage has been done and it again stems from the left in poising the well to score political points. Basically anything Trump supports or in this case nominates has to be shot down in flames…unfortunately in this case Kavanaugh is collateral damage to embarrass Trump…sad day!

    RRM, Ford doesn’t claim that he raped her, it was a sexual assault – held down and attempted to remove clothes, desisted when she resisted. The second (laughable) accusation is that he flashed his dick in a woman’s face. The third (and really insane) claims that he was somehow involved in an unspecified way with a group of men who drugged and actually raped girls at parties over several years. It isn’t specifically alleged that he raped anyone but that he was present and knew of the activity and was possibly complicit in the drugging.
    
    The problem with investigating any of these is that there have been a number of witnesses cited, and for Ford’s allegations, they all deny under oath having any knowledge of the activity claimed. So how could you investigate it, 6 people allegedly present, one claims he did something, he claims he did nothing of the sort (and given the unspecificity of the time and place, what more can you say), and the other 4 people claim no knowledge of the activity or even any such occasion. What more could you find out ?
    
    The “dick in the face”, again witnesses who say no such thing happened to their knowledge, one hearsay “I heard from someone that they heard that….” which is worthless. So pretty hard to substantiate anything.
    
    The Rapist parties allegation shouldn’t even be dignified with any investigation, it is the equivalent of the Pizza Restaurant paedophile conspiracy theory which wasn’t ever investigated either.
    
    What should be investigated is who is organizing this orchestrated series of stories, what are they paying these people, and to what extent are the actual Democrat Senators complicit in the attempted perversion of Justice.

So, because she doesn’t agree, she has “health problems”?

    The reality of the story about the “doors” is far more damaging to Ford, her credibility and the news media’s credibility (not that they have any).
    
    The story as it started is that the abuse came out when she insisted on have a second “front door” in their house when they remodelled it and gave the explanation that her trauma of many years ago made her fearful and needing a second exit for emergencies.
    
    Turns out they were signing up for airb-n-b and wanted a second entrance for the paying customers.
    
    If anyone thinks that the fairy-tale being being spun by Ford and the Democrat’s has any credibility at all needs to check with their psychologist urgently.

    I was listening to her recount events. Now, maybe I am old and forgetful, but her collection of events seemed very clear. If I think of events that took place 35 years ago, there is no way I can remember that much detail, and much of what I do remember is actually wrong. Our brains distort memories every time we recall the memory. It just seems dodgy.

  Funny Fletch but that was one of the double take moments that lady doing the questioning the accuser let her make a fool of herself. Questions started to arise about her own “significant health challenges” long before that little gem was revealed. In fact it started as her education or qualifications were enumerated which in any well adjusted person would have well ahead of most in the “head” department. Then the struggle she had getting started with being able to handle the classes she was attending setting her career path. Next there was so many references to her many therapy sessions that seemed to start very early. Couples therapy as well as parent/child therapy with the former being a need for two front doors?
  While there is much debate the wisdom of having questions put through an experienced legal professional it was the best option to avoid the accusations of pale stale old males challenging her. By the third time that process was followed she was being challenged to confirm which version of some details were correct after giving more than one.
  The polygraph issue was a significant failure for the accuser over the extent of recording the process then only providing the barest results. Finished off by the confusion of the offer to go to California to let her give her statement when it turns out she was not even there though let it be thought she was there. No wonder she was confused about whether she was given that option that was even reported in the media at the time. Just too many holes in her oratory then to attempt to do such a hit job without a shred of corroborating evidence left her totally dependent on her faltering delivery exposed as a complete sham.

  The hubby could speak no English when he started school here in NZ. Russian and German and sometimes Italian were the languages spoken in his childhood home.
  He came back from his first day at primary school and demanded (with a stamp of his little feet) that his parents and grandparents only speak English to him. His Grandma never did… so he retains a smittering of Russian, but never speaks it and has no intention of ever regaining any fluency in it.

Forget the comforting noises from the Governor of the RB. Wage increases and fuel prices are going to drive up inflation and with it interest rates particularly mortgage rates.

The net impact will the final nail in the COL coffin come election 2020.

The punters always vote with their hip pockets and petrol at $3 plus a litre and mortgage rates north of 7/8% will see them vote against the COL.

My pick is W1st and the Greens wiped out and the Nats at close to 50 points so they can govern alone.

Back to the good days of FPP thank God. Instead of the omnishambles we have now.

      Ah, I see what you do there. You said “wages” when you really meant “salaries”. Wages has a way of making them sound like poor downtrodden workers.
      
      If you want high salaries then you need performance pay. If you don’t have performance pay then the good teachers just end up subsidising the rubbish teachers.
      
      You would not pay more for a car or a loaf of bread unless you knew you were getting something worth it. Same for teachers.

Our Prime Minster has said at the UN she wants a govt of “Kindness”. So here’s a few ‘kindness’ suggestions for our Mother of the Nation:
1. Be kind to the people of Taranaki. Save their jobs and communities by letting the NZ Oil and Gas industry continue. You’ll also be reducing our future carbon footprint by not having to import so much oil and gas as well.
2. Be kind to middle and low income earners. Do the tax bracket adjustment that National were going to do. Otherwise inflation and minimum wages rises are going to wipe out any gains they make by forcing them into a higher tax bracket.
3. Be kind to farmers. Agriculture produces 40% of NZ’s GDP each year. Don’t hit them with Green taxes, capital gains, carbon taxes, water use taxes etc. Work with them and with district/regional councils to achieve common water standards and waste minimisation. This may require some investment by govt but hey, agricultures contributes billions to the Crowns revenue.
4. Be kind to employers. Listen to them and act on what they have bene trying to tell you for months, especially small business. They can’t afford your policy plans for the workplace.

There are so many more kindness suggestions I have for you Prime Minster. Just ask anytime.

I can’t watch any more of the hearing – been watching, like, an hour and a half now. What’s happening at the moment is that both sides are taking turns “questioning” him. The Republicans are supportive, apologizing for what has happened to him and commenting on how bad it all is. The Democrats are trying to paint him as an alcoholic and ask whether he has ever got so drunk that he blacked out, and each of them keeps pushing for him to ask for an end to the hearing and the nomination process so that it can be investigated by the FBI. Kavanaugh, replies, “I am here. Now. Ask me anything you like”. The reply comes that it’d only take a week, to which he replies he has been already doing this for 10 days, and do you know how painful each day is?

The whole thing is a circus. Breitbart is keeping up a blow-by-blow of reporting.

SEC sues Musk for fraud, seek to remove him from Tesla

NEW YORK/SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) – The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Thursday accused Tesla Inc (TSLA.O) Chief Executive Elon Musk of fraud and sought to remove him from his role in charge of the electric car company, saying he made a series of “false and misleading” tweets about potentially taking Tesla private last month.

Musk, 47, is the public face of Tesla and losing him would be a big blow for the money-losing car maker which has a market value of more than $50 billion, chiefly because of investors’ belief in Musk’s leadership.

The Department of Justice, which has the authority to press criminal charges, has also questioned the company about Musk’s tweets, the company said this month.

Tesla shares tumbled 12 percent in after-hours trading.

TV 3 showed the actual “crowd” on The Project tonight. Hilarious!! Only a half dozen or so and most of them were doing other things. One woman was standing with her back to Ardern as she prattled and virtue signalled away. Bet they’ve all had enough of her screaming brat as well.
