One of the most extraordinary statements I have read in a judgement is this in the Lundy appeal dismissal.

“[363] However this is not a case that turned on the credibility or honesty of witnesses.”

Anyone can read this forever and reflect on the infinite meanings, but the statement embraces such elements as

“[335]……………………………………….This was largely speculative, although Professor Ironside had given
the example of neck chops that might contain parts of the spinal cord. CNS tissue
might also find its way into sausage. In either case however, it would be remarkable
if the only part of the chop or sausage ended up spilled onto clothing was CNS tissue,
as in the case of Mr Lundy’s shirt. Like other experts, Professor Ironside readily
accepted that the CNS tissue observed in this case was “certainly central nervous
system tissue and nothing else”.”

So the case does turn on the “credibility or honesty” of Ironside making this statement, because if he is wrong, the shirt stain is certainly food chain. And indeed this is precisely what might be, and of course is contended by the presence of cow sheep and pig dna in the elution, dna which should not be there. Indeed the thin slides cut by Miller stained with enormously variable results which suggests any thing but sole and only CNS tissue that the judgement relies on to apply the proviso.

The privy council noted in [92]

“(iii) What is the extent and significance of the variation of staining on
Dr Miller’s slides? Is it legitimate to select those slides which appear
to show good preservation and produce results that are indicative of
the presence of CNS tissue and to disregard those which produce
ambivalent or inconsistent results? Does the variation of staining
indicate the possibility of the presence of artefacts?”

That is recited in [36] of the appeal dimissal.

Then we get to

“[357] Mr Eaton also referred to other matters that had been raised by the defence at
the trial, including:
(a) There were a number of unidentified fingerprints at the scene as well
as an unidentified footprint.

(d) Scrapings taken from under the fingernails of both the deceased, after
being analysed in 2014, were shown to contain the DNA of unknown
males.
(e) A number of fibres were found under the fingernails of both deceased.
These were analysed and could not be attributed to Mr Lundy’s
polo shirt.

[358] All of these matters must have been rejected by the jury as not raising a
reasonable doubt about Mr Lundy’s guilt. None of them are particularly cogent as an
indicator of another person being responsible for the crime. In our own view, they do
not raise a credible basis on which we could go behind the implications of
the CNS tissue and DNA found on Mr Lundy’s shirt.”

See what is being done here? The jury are taking the rap for ignoring evidence that an intruder was in the house murdering the family.

Does any of this matter?

Yes, because an innocent man is in jail and staring at a supreme court that is soon to be headed by one of these decision makers. I see a crisis, you lot see a huge laugh at a man’s plight.

Moderating and down voting this material all drawn from the public record will never make it disappear. I suggest you all read the judgement carefully and its in entirety to see how and why judicial history is going to be rewritten.

  People talk about multiculturalism, but no-one knows what that word means. Or else it has different meanings to different people. Or else the mean of “multiculturalism” is fluid (like gender in this day and age, perhaps…).
  
  I think people confuse “multicultural” with “multiethnic.”
  The real danger is when your society becomes “multi-legal” in which different segments of the population apply different laws and are in turn governed by different laws.

    “Cultural” can be a problem when people take it seriously.
    When “cultural” refers to the language you use within your family, your “dress” on special days, the food you cook, the resturants you frequent, then “cultural” is pretty harmless.
    On the other hand, when your “culture” dictates whom you will marry, where you will send your children to be educated, do business with, employ, vote for, and ask to mediate conflicts, seek for medical help, then this is devisive to a society.

  Here is what ‘multi-culturalism’ means in practical terms: All cultures are of equal moral value and it is wrong to judge the values of one by the values of another. In practical terms it means that you are wrong to ‘impose’ Western moral codes in determining the moral worth of non-Western ones.
  I had an experience a short time ago related to this. I was discussing the issue with some well educated people who espoused this doctrine. I asked, as one example, whether female genital mutilation was a moral wrong and was told, firmly, that it was entirely appropriate within the context of the culture that practiced it, unless they made a freewill choice to abandon the practise. Similarly the old practice among some Hindu of burning the surviving widow when a man died was to be considered proper within their own countries. I was told such behaviors were not proper within our country as we had specific laws against it. Presumably then if we changed the law to accommodate such practices it they would deem it entirely proper in this country as well.
  When I suggested that our own laws banning such practices were ultimately expressions of a transcendent morality that applied to ALL mankind (aka our traditional understanding of human rights) I was met with polite silence.
  There is much more I could say on this subject, but basically I see it as an assault on traditional Western religious / cultural mores. We are expected to now regard all cultures as having equivalent moral value, regardless of how morally repugnant we might find their other values (or lack of them) and stop trying to impose them on others. Human rights be damned.
  After that conversation I think I came to a clearer understanding of the goals of people propounding ‘multi-culturalism’.

    The problem with non-western cultures is they have very little respect for the rights of the individual.
    It’s group/mob rule.
    Some of their customs are very nice….but they have a strong pecking order and basically the physically powerful and aggressive get to bully and control the weaker.

      Japanese culture has a tendency to do this. The plus side is that if you play your prescribed role, society will look after you, but will be intolerant to deviations.
      
      Even though the mother’s role is still cherished in Japan, the birth rate is way below replacement level. Young Japanese women are well educated, and maybe a little coddled (although not as much as the boys).
      Japanese youth need to harden up and start thinking about nation-building and their obligation to Japanese society. But who’s going to make them?
      
      I’m too old to care. I’ve done my bit. Now it’s up to the youth of Japan to figure out what kind of a society they want for the future.

    A few years ago there was an issue where a Saudi prince was caught taking a new bride out of the country where he had just “married” her. She was 12 at the time.
    
    At that time, I did a little research and found that more of the world’s cultures and religions would accept a “marriage” between a 12 year old girl and a 40 odd year old man than would think it abhorrent. From my current perspective, I think that has not changed much but maybe more now than then think it acceptable.
    
    My father was fond of an old saying, “your right to swing your arms ends where my nose begins” and as a man who gave 5 years of his life to defend such assertions, he retained that belief until his death.
    
    I also generally act with that saying in mind, although I treat my nose as being a little longer than his and include my family and close friends as “noses”.

      Arguably that is in effect happening already, at least in other jurisdictions such as Europe and the UK. There it seems the authorities turn a blind eye to cultural practices that fly in the face of their own laws. In the name of multi-culturalism they make a conscious decision to ignore the human rights of residents and not protect victims from abuse and injury.
      So in practice we don’t even have to change our own laws; we just need the authorities to refuse to apply them universally.
      And unfortunately as you see, without a uniformly applied legal standard that is based around a commonly held moral code we will no longer have nations as such, just a return to more primitive tribalism.

      (1) Realise this is DPF’s blog and he makes the rules.
      (2) Have a good, long look at DPF’s (quite reasonable) Comments Policy, to which there is a link at the foot of each Kiwiblog page.
      
      Pertinent sections:
      * Apart from me, no-one at all has the right to post comments. Posting is a privilege, not a right.
      * Do not make comments that could get myself as publisher, or you, into a defamation suit.
      * I want arguments attacked, not people. As an example it will be unacceptable to call someone a moron, but it will be acceptable to say their argument is moronic. That may seem a fine distinction, but an important one. However don’t try and push the distinction to breaking point. If you say that someone’s argument has the integrity of a syphilitic pygmy (for example), then that would find you with a warning or strike.
      
      Notsofast, you will see, has already received three ‘Strike’ notices:
      1st, 2nd and 3rd strike – 31/7/16
      4th strike – 7/8/17
      
      99.9% of us have received ZERO strikes.
      
      (That said, I see a fair few luminaries in here HAVE made the Naughty Step, heh heh. No-one is perfect. Not even me, though I was last not perfect on a Tuesday in April 1993…)

      I am stating categorically, and arguing logically, by taking elements from the judgement that they are wrong and have dismissed the appeal of an innocent man. Nothing will change that bit of history, but the ramifications for the judiciary flow deep.
      I can’t repost a moderated comment, DPF rightly has control, but effectively I totally challenge the chief justice appointee and her colleagues, and I know history will show how dangerous our system has become for the proper dispensing of justice.

Happy new year all.

During the weekend I read a piece of mindless commentary telling me I should be happy to live in NZ because as of last week our supermarkets stopped using single use plastic bags. My reaction was a bunch of obscenities about the stupidity of the author.

You see on Friday I made the usual summer time trip to the tip to get rid of all the “single use” packaging which our Christmas presents and Boxing Dale sale purchases came encased in. The back of my ute was full of cardboard, plastic wrap, and polystyrene packaging.

While we have a culture of everything being sold to us in layers of packaging, don’t try and tell me how virtuous NZ is because supermarkets have done away with shopping bags. At least shopping bags get used twice in their life unlike the Auckland Council rubbish bags – which are the ultimate single use plastic bag.

With dud policies like above Jimmy 2 mums, and Eugene “Parsley” Sage & the SLG(B), each has the green credentials of Winnie Peters (smoke another cigarette).

  While on holiday I called into a Countdown supermarket and arrived bagless at the self service checkout. What should I do with my five items I pleaded to the supervisor? ‘Why sir, you can buy a large plastic type bag for $1, or a 15c plastic bag with handles’. So I purchased a plastic bag to carry a plastic milk bottle, some plastic wrapped cheese and bread, kiwifruit in a bubble pack, and some bananas in a plastic bag. Isn’t plastic bloody useful?

    Indandout, it gets worse in some ways. We arrived with a load of groceries at one of Countdowns check out counters. The operator gets our bags and then says. Are you going to pack the order. Not on you’re nellie say us. The reason we come to Countdown is we get our groceries packed by Countdown employees. Not like pak’n save . Wonder will this be the new trend now that multi use plastic bags have been eliminated by the far left Lunatic Green Party in accordance with the small town twerp Ardern and her puppet master Peters.

      The other problem I see with this bag bullshit, is the self service checkouts require the scanned items to be placed in bag in the packing area…. Since I have never remembered once to bring a bag or 8 from home, and I dont particularly want to buy more plastic bags that are now useless for bin liners etc due to sizing etc, these self service checkouts are absolutely useless to me. (Not that I really care, I loathe the things) I wonder if countdown will put more staff back on the manual check outs now…. (which are a horrible height/design now if moving lose items from the old bagging area/shelf back into the trolley)
      
      And just to add icing on the cake… I’m now purchasing/using more plastic bags now between bin liners, cleaning up doggy doo & the rear occasions I take lunch to work…. Great work govt!

    Someone would have to rush out the back and reinstate one of the cartons the shelf stackers have to flatten so they can be recycled.

  I have taken to packing groceries in the green carry baskets at Countdown since they stopped supplying plastic bags. On only one occasion was I challenged for taking their green baskets. Currently I have 5 of these useful baskets in my workshop, they stack neatly on a shelf and hold paint brushes and rollers, electrical bits ‘n pieces, plumbing bits ‘n pieces, small paint pots and rags & cleaning stuff.
  
  Sooner or later they will realise that the cost of their basket losses is greater than the plastic bags saved !

    The cost to supermarkets is more than lost baskets. Factor in the extra time taken by checkout operators to explain about bags, collect and respond to grumpy comments, pack into grubby (or worse) own bags, clean down the counter from same bags, try to catch the odd mouse or cockroach that jumps out at them as has been reported …
    
    And it is not only supermarkets. all other retailers, large and small, will be forbidden to use most plastic bags. What will they do? Can’t even wrap neatly in newspaper as not only almost no broadsheets any more, not many newspapers either.
    
    How about huge rolls of white butcher paper – the paper that butchers have long since flagged in favour of ….?

      Factor in the impulse buying that will be forgone too. I do the shopping in my house hold and usually the one that picks up stuff on the way home, from the supermarket. Suddenly I don’t feel like picking up that extra thing anymore since I may not have room in the one bag I have with me.

  This bag stuff pisses me off no end. I see that Pak ‘N Sav has even stopped selling the yellow bags now and instead offer the thicker (worse for the environment) plastic ones for 15c, similar to the ones Countdown sells, or a paper bag for 20c. I can’t get over the stupidity of all this crap. We are being denied choice for the sake of feelgood ideologies.
  
  To add to that, most places have stopped accepting the bags for recycling because the recycling centres can’t handle it. And it’s the thicker bags that will need recycling most, I reckon, as the public tended to recycle the thinner ones themselves. They’ve shot themselves in the foot.
  
  I notice that Countdown seem to be out of most of the brands of flushable wipes. I wonder if those will be the next things banned.

    Can’t be bothered stressing about this issue. Chinese shopping websites feature supermarket plastic bags for between $2 and $7 per hundred depending on their size. We now have 500 in the kitchen and in our car boots and life goes on as before ie dual use from shopping to lining the kitchen and bathroom bins.

    The thing that angers me more than anything about this plastic bag nonsense is that as far as the supermarkets are concerned it was never about saving the environment, it was about improving their profits. I saw a figure that quoted umpteen millions they were saving by not giving away plastic bags. Unfortunately they have been aided and abetted by our utterly useless government. If the supermarkets reduced their prices to reflect their saving on plastic bags it would be a start…but, of course, they won’t. They are laughing all the way to the bank. I recommend going to Farros (pricey, I know) but just buy a couple of things. They give away free BIODEGRABABLE bags which you can then use at a supermarket. Why can’t the supermarkets use these bags? Oh, that’s right, profits.

    I kid you not.
    The second sensible solution would have been to require all bags to be biodegradable.
    The first sensible solution would have been to have put a rocket up those shit-hole countries that are causing the ‘plastic bags in oceans’ problem and will continue to do no matter what we carry our groceries home in.

From elsewhere – Until Maori stop blaming white people and colonisation for everything that happens to them, and start to realise they are responsible for their own lives and their own outcomes, Maori will still be represented in all the wrong statistics and nothing will change.

Charter or partnership schools were benefiting a number of Maori students who were failed by the State education model. Those schools were so regarded as an education taonga that their demise is now subject of a Waitangi Tribunal claim, which if conducted properly should find that Labour Maori Caucus inaction over the issue is as much to blame as any other factor in their loss.

Rather than any support for the schools, the Maori Caucus was seemingly more blindly supportive of ex-Minister Meka Whaitiri.

And that incident – a verbal berating apparently loud enough to leave bruising on a staff member, visible in photographic evidence – occurred because Whaitiri was unhappy at not being alerted to a photo opportunity at a media standup with Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern during a lunch break at a function in Gisborne – a lost chance to be seen in her supposed importance in the line-up behind the Labour leadership.

Possibly never before in New Zealand history have Maori been more fully represented in Parliament – a Maori is Deputy Prime Minister, Labour Deputy Leader and one party has all the Special Seats – but to just piss so much power and mana into the wind …

Keeping the education tail out of jail, or seeking a selfie with Jacinda.

Jacinda, who last February 5, eve of Waitangi Day, said –
… As a government, we know what we have to do, we know all of the failings that we have as a nation, but we won’t always know exactly how to change it. For that we will come to you, we will ask you to help us, we will form partnerships together because we cannot do it alone. And I can guarantee you particularly as this government goes out to hui amongst everyone, that there will be no marae too small for us, there will be no marae where we don’t ask for that help and to work alongside us.

But they didn’t – not on partnership schools.

Have politicians, including those of Maori decent, spent so long now telling us all that Maori will occupy the lowest levels of any negative statistic, that their own Maori performance is inevitably prophecy fulfilling too.

Maori may have suffered some deprivations in so-called colonisation – about 180 years ago – but is it not them who are colonising themselves again?

Jacinda ended last year’s Waitangi speech with –
… we have to now go forth from this place and prove to all of you. So when we return, in one year, in three years, I ask you to ask of us what we have done. Ask us how we have given dignity back to your whanau, ask us what we have done to improve poverty for tamariki, ask us what we have done to give rangatahi opportunities and jobs, ask us, hold us to account. Because one day I want to be able to tell my child that I earned the right to stand here and only you can tell me when I have done that. So for now I finish with wise words I’ve heard from Ngāi Tahu before:
Mō tātou, ā, mō kā uri, ā muri ake nei – for us and for our children after us.

This year will she include –
… and sorry about the taonga of partnership schools. But talk to the Labour Maori Caucus about that …

But I guess now we must await the case before the Waitangi Tribunal
– to see if partnership schools are valid, or if the Tribunal is.

    Thank you, Hullkiwi, for the update, but I would contend that it is more important to recognise who is “colonising” Maori for the second time – largely themselves – than the first.
    
    Years ago interviewer-supremo Brian Edwards spoke to US visitor Charles Colson, Watergate felon who became an evangelical leader after his time in prison revealed to him a disproportionate jail representation of African-Americans, just as Maori are here.
    
    It was Colson who said that, in US history, the Civil War freed African-Americans from slavery, but since then, continually emphasising their under-achievement in every social statistic, enslaved them again – and it could be argued pretty that Maori here are re-colonised in a similar way.
    
    And in 2018, it is not James Cook who is doing it.

So when my missus said a business associate of hers had invited a few people to join them in their Corporate Box for the *ASB Women’s Final*, I was just a little reluctant to accept. But when she told me they’d arrange a limo to collect us and drop us back home, and there would be a full champagne dinner laid on, I thought ‘fuck it, may as well go’.

  Thanks. My late wife did die of cancer. I was only 18 and married her 6 weeks after our meeting. Her IQ was off the scale but she preferred being a mother to being a don.
  I was taking a daughter to my present wife for singing lessons for six years when the first died. Twenty one months later we married. Again we knew on our initial lesson we were compatible despite our age difference. Our 18th wedding anniversary is later this month. We have three delightful children–the youngest 12 and the oldest 17 is to be married this September.
  I have been and continue to be truly blessed. My wife is a Deacon in the Anglican Church.

Apparently Donald Trump has been criticised for claiming that walls do work and that former President Obama has a 10 foot wall outside his house. The Washington post fact checkers say that Obama’s wall is not 10 foot high and so Trump is lying. This is important because Trump wants a high wall on the southern border to keep out illegal immigrants and drugs and gangs from entering the United States. His critics say that walls don’t work.

Well a fact checker of the fact checkers could not ascertain whether Obama has a 10 foot wall outside his house. That is because Obama has multiple barriers, multiple walls and armed security officers stopping people from getting to within 500 feet of his house!

So Obama has many walls and many security officers stopping people from getting within 500 feet of his house. However he also claims that a wall on the southern border will not work??

Actually the reason why Obama and other Liberals don’t want a wall on the southern border is that they are afraid that it will work. Liberals want illegal immigration because they know that 80% of illegals will eventually vote Democrat.

The need for a secure border is an important issue all around the world including New Zealand. We want to control who lives here and who comes into our country. Many people want to go to the USA and live there. Likewise many people want to go to New Zealand and live here. So we should choose good people who are going to add to our country and assimilate into our society.

Without secure borders you do not have a country.

        Sideoiler, there’s no mystery to it. The Solicitor General had to approve the Terrorism charges, he said the law as it stood was impossible to apply, so refused to approve them. It later went to the Law Commission who said there was nothing they could do to make the laws more comprehensible or easy to apply, that they were fine as they were, and as a result they have not been changed.

        @ fernglas, I didn’t think it particularly mysterious that none were convicted under the terrorisim laws, it struck me at the time that the plod thought it might be a good idea to give this shiny new piece of legislation a bit of an outing, an egregious abuse of power in my humble opinion.
        I have no sympathy with Iti, Bailey or Singer, but the plod overstepped the mark badly and senior members of the plod hierarchy should have been severely reprimanded.
        I was fortunate enough to take two bottles of good Islay malt off an aquaintence when I wagered that none of the accused would be convicted under the legislation.

  I watched a doco on Prime last night on the Mediterranean. The host traveled to Cyprus/Turkey, Lebanon, Israel and The Gaza Strip – some of the cities had huge walls which cut main streets and cities totally in half, separating families just as the Berlin Wall did. Very interesting program if you can find it somewhere.
  Israel looks beautiful – so green compliments of a huge desalination plant, their technology ability is amazing.

      Call it ‘democratic crowd-sourcing of moderation’ if you like, but the result of reporting some comments into oblivion (as distinct from downticking, which still lets people see comments if they really want) is censorship of some contributors to a blog whose attraction includes its lack of censorship.
      
      Several contributors to KB have reached default status of don’t-read-past-the-first-sentence (or the rest of the thread) as far as I’m concerned, but I’d rather decide for myself than have would-be censors decide for me.

        Tall Man – it’s not the hidden comments due to down ticks that are the problem.
        
        There seems to be semi organised reporting (clicking REPORT) that, if several clicks are registered, puts a comment into moderation, so it isn’t visible until it is released from moderation by presumably DPF. This can take some time, like a day.
        
        This doesn’t just hide the reported comment in the moderation queue, it also appears to hide all comments in the thread below the reported comment.
        
        This system was put in place by DPF to make it easier to report abusive and defamatory comments that have long been a problem here. It is a good idea, but some have been abusing this by malicious reporting. It amounts to mob censorship.

        I posted things that I thought would be of interest to some here (and they were going by comments and ticks), and linked back to more detail. That’s common practice, and DPF has never indicated he has any problem with it.
        
        With the comments reported over the last couple of days DPF eventually released them so obviously had no problem with them. This shows they were reported without good cause.
        
        Accusations of ‘link whoring’ are most often just a form of trying to discredit comments and linked information. About the only problem with link whoring here are those who abuse the ‘Report’function by claiming it. It is anti-free speech here.

        Accusations of ‘link whoring’ amounts to a form of trolling to try to disrupt or discredit or censor. Reporting ‘link whoring’ seems to me to be an abuse of site processes.   It’s been quite a while since I last visited Pete’s blog, but I do know that he’s become quite notorious over the years for trying to tell other blog-owners how they should moderate their blog, what rules they should have in place, what standards they should adhere to, what posts they should and should not allow … and then dancing on the head of a pin when called out on it.

  The issue in this case doesn’t appear to be wholly the Saudis. After all everyone knows what to expect from those bastards, including the young woman in question.
  The Thai authorities appear to have allowed her to be kidnapped and taken out of the transit area, which means she can be deported.
  I’ve read of a number instances where the Thais don’t give a shit about human rights of foreigners in this way if it keeps some bully happy, usually China.

For a variety of reasons, most selfish, I have a keen interest in the stock market.
I read a lot of overseas material, Bloomberg et al.
I have discovered a few things.
The first is that the market is jumpy.
The second is that much of the commentary is formulaic.
Third is that what passes for business commentary in the mainstream media in NZ is woeful, out of date and ill-informed.
I have also discovered that most mainstream business sections delight in using reports predicting that the world is about to step back to 1929; that every correction gets enthusiastic, even gleeful, coverage, and that upswings are largely ignored.
The most the execrable Stuff can manage in hints on how to save in the New Year, ffs.
I do not subscribe to NBR, so I should exclude it from criticism.

  It is indeed very formulaic. The market ignores value and and I see a great deal of charting going on trying to predict price movements.
  I would be checking out the movement in the yield gap between a broad equity index like S&P and long dated treasuries. I expect we are now in a downward cycle.
  If you must hold equities the blue chips go down more rapidly and also recover more rapidly.

A Canterbury woman’s e-cigarette vaporiser’s battery has exploded (first link below).

The Canterbury explosion and fire occurred during the night when the battery of the e-cigarette, or vaporiser, was being recharged.

But a study by the US Fire Administration of e-cigarette fires and explosions from 2009 to 2016 (second link below) found that there were more explosion/fire incidents both, when the e-cigarettes were in use and when they were in users’ pockets, than when the vaporiser battery was being recharged.

  Maybe Macron should have spoken to his Spanish neighbours first. Because last week, Border guards at Spanish enclaves bordering Morocco, in 2 incidents stopped illegal immigrants entering Spanish territory. In these cases men were concealed in hollowed out mattresses tied to the roofs of two cars. The illegals were captured, but the drivers of the cars escaped back into Morocco.
  
  So, those leaders pushing this agreement need to be held accountable for their inept indulgence in a matter they choose not to come to terms with.

  You probably noticed all the words like “might”, “may”, “suggests”, “possibly”, “could” in those stories.
  There are also “climate change” stories that might be climate change related, but have nothing to do with human causes – E.g. glaciers that began receding in the mid 19th century.
  Some of the “Greenland is melting!” stories refer to data from some years ago when there was melting, but you won’t hear about the last two years, where there was practically no ice loss.
  They’re fuckers.
  Even the official reports about the lack of ice loss in Greenland take pains to point out that this is still consistent with global warming. So what? It’s also probably consistent with global not-warming.
  The branding of anybody who doesn’t meekly conform as a denier gives me the shits. This tactic alone is enough to make me question the ‘official’ climate change proponents.

As it is It’s thirty one years since they’ve been asked to follow on at home – 172 tests.
None of their batsmen scored a century in the series, which is some kind of record too.

  It should be the first thing you pay.
  
  Look at the hundreds of people that did not have insurance before the Christchurch quakes.
  
  If your house is on a mortgage, the bank makes you have insurance.
  If its freehold, then you have no mortgage or rent to pay, so it should be easy to pay insurance premiums.
  
  So, yes we need to stop helping such people and make them stand as an example to the other idiots outs there.

  I am living on my own so do not have very high cover. I am insured for $16k with $1k excess. I just got my bill for $211.
  
  The $1000 excess brings down the premium a lot. Even if they were underinsured they would not have to beg. If they can afford two dogs they can afford less than $10/wk insurance.

Malaysian King Sultan Muhammad V has abdicated in an unexpected move after just two years on the throne.

The palace said in a statement that the 49-year-old ruler had resigned as Malaysia’s 15th king with immediate effect, cutting short his five-year term. It is the first abdication in the nation’s history and no reason was given in the statement.

Sultan Muhammad V, ruler of north-east Kelantan state, took his oath of office in December 2016, becoming one of Malaysia’s youngest constitutional monarchs. He is said to have married a 25-year-old former Russian beauty queen in November while on a two-month medical leave.

Reports in Russian and British media, as well as on social media, featured pictures of the wedding, which reportedly took place in Moscow.

So he goes on medical leave and gets married. His doctor must be an interesting character!

So the people in my workshop said the AN125 suzuki was getting dangerous for picking up stuff in town , we bought a new DR 650 suzuki from nelson and I made the mistake of volunteering to fly down and pick it up yesterday .
from Nelson to Picton was Dreamy ,but this morning from wellington to home 667 km, was not so good .
By the time I arrived at Taihape my bum felt like I had been the sex slave of the 88’s for 2 days.
got home and thank God the cheap Teachers whiskey bottle isn’t empty…….

    Not how I remember it Longknives. The last time I had the misfortune to fly anywhere (did I mention that I hate heights?) was in the mid 70s. The boss had a brain fart & bought a truck when he was in Christchurch & flew muggins down to drive it back.
    
    It was still NAC then & to refer to the hostesses as being a touch agricultural was abject flattery! There I was, stuck thousands of feet up in an aluminium coffin with the choice of looking at clouds or a fat woman’s arse. 🙂

nostradamus, the only way i could bring relief to the my aching butt was to stand up on the footrests and drop the legs down to the road on occasions,
to be fair there were very few cops and I didnt see one bad driver in the whole trip ,as usual the desert road was cold but warm compared to a crossing of it in the winter.
Any KB people that have been thinking about M/C touring ,Im just saying “its never to late” we are doing a circumnavigation of the south again starting on the 16th of March in Auckland …..

Police in the US city of Phoenix on Saturday were investigating reports of a sexual assault after a woman who has been hospitalised in a vegetative state for the past decade gave birth.

The woman, who was incapacitated in a drowning incident, was a patient at Hacienda Healthcare when she went into labour on December 29th and delivered a baby boy, according to local media.

No one knew she was pregnant and healthcare staff were initially unsure why she was moaning, the reports said.

“This matter is currently under investigation by the Phoenix Police Department, ” Sergeant Tommy Thompson said when asked about the media reports.

Hacienda spokesman David Leibowitz said the facility had recently become aware of a “deeply disturbing incident” involving one of its residents.

  Wow. That would have been an epic session. Only one thing; Darwin had a theory of natural selection, not evolution per se. Evolution is thousands of years old as a theory (Aristotle refers to the gradation of living forms, scala naturae).

    Swifty and some others had the same thoughts a few months ago when there was some discussion on here about the cricket.
    
    I assured them that I had met up with Kimbo for a beer or six whilst watching the Cubs go down to defeat in the World Series playoffs, and that he’s fine, but focused on a project that requires all his attention. 🙂
