  I regularly encounter shit for brains drivers on NZ roads.
  I have had grossly incompetent drivers crash into me, one even tried to deliberately run me over after the crash.
  Yet there aren’t angst ridden TV interviews on how these fuckwit drivers ruin people lives, or how the victims are demanding an apology.

    When in university the POS put it around that he was Italian and was nick named by students that new him Luigi Peters, I can remember when the dirty little fucker used to regularly bag the Maoris in Parliament for political gain .

      Bad judgment on her part. She should have bailed out at the first suspicion of bother even if it imploded the company. Especially as prominent Auckland lawyer Bruce Davidson got 9 months home detention, 200 hours community work had to fork our $0.5M and suspended from law practice for 9 months because he acquiesced to shady Bridgecorp deals – the judge said he ought to have resigned as Bridgecorp Chair, but he presumably did not because that would have imploded Bridgecorp. As a schoolmate of his said to me – he was out of his depth.
      It is doubtful that Jenny’s inaction would incur such a nasty package of penalties and she may come out of it relatively financially unscathed since Mainzeal would have had Directors and Officers liability insurance.
      But the Bruce Davidson case showed that people like him must not accept ‘figurehead’ directorships merely to add credibility to the company.

Nick Smith got thrown out of the House yesterday for accusing Jacinda Ardern of lying. Here’s the exchange:

Rt Hon JACINDA ARDERN: Again, I find this line of questioning rich, given the last Government refused to do anything about the fact that only 5 percent of new houses were available in the affordable or first-home buyer category, and their response was to do absolutely nothing—absolutely nothing—[Interruption]—which is why we have the supply issue—

SPEAKER: Order! Who made that interjection?

Hon Dr Nick Smith: I withdraw and apologise.

SPEAKER: And leave the House. There’s already been a warning on that subject, so the member needs to learn.

Hon Dr Nick Smith withdrew from the Chamber.

Smith later made this comment to Stuff:

Speaking to Stuff on his way out of the House, Smith said he didn’t regret the comment, as his Government had built plenty of affordable homes.

“The Prime Minister made a totally false claim that the previous Government did not build any affordable houses. That is factually untrue. I said it was a lie, and I stand by it,” Smith said.

If Smith can produce evidence that the PM made a false statement and thus misled the House, he should complain to the Speaker about a Matter of Privilege involving the PM. That would put the ball fairly and squarely in Mallard’s court, as he would have to determine whether the reason Smith used an unparliamentary term was because the PM actually told a porkie in the House, which is of course a very serious matter.

  The PM referred to ‘houses’ and ‘affordable first home buyer category’. If she was referring to 3+ beddies with 2 bathrooms and a double garage on quarter acre in Auckland she may be right.
  
  If she was referring to any new builds in New Zealand she is almost certainly wrong.
  
  She has however opened herself up to some very specific Questions about, for example, what was the definition of ‘affordable’ in 2008, 2009…. And what was the availability of new builds in those years within the affordability definition she is using.
  
  Plenty of data available, once the PM tells the country the measurements she is using.

    ‘Affordable’ houses are 50 or 60 year old smaller houses in outer suburbs which need a bit of work on them. That’s what first home buyers should be buying.
    New builds, even small ones, are not ‘affordable’ for these buyers.

      In Auckland older homes needing renovation are very much in demand largely because of the size of the sections they sit on.
      Houses built between 1960-1970 have the classic 1/4 acre section.You can move the existing house to the rear or demolish and rebuild two houses.

If he’d said the same thing in Parliamentary language the PM would have had to continue to face questions on the subject, eventually even the Speaker would have had to notice that she wasn’t answering the question, and the story would have been about her incompetence and ignorance.     Some years ago [when still primary teaching] a start was being made on the introduction of maori – with the labelling of items in the classroom.
    Probably following my reaction, we had big laughs over – putting the “kutikutis” away! [scissors]
    Some kids made big efforts to include “kutikutis’ in their speech just to have another laugh over the word.
    I’d probably be reprimanded, fired etc [even arrested!] so I’m pleased I am retired now.

      When Maori was first written down by European it was supposed to be a phonetic rendering of the word that was in use at the time. What’s the point in fabricating a new Maori word like kutikuti? It’s clearly a phonetic rendering of its function in the English language. Why not just use the English word and spelling? I mean, we don’t have to translate haka into an English equivalent “harker”, do we? Or call it “wardancewardance”?

        There are varying rules throughout Polynesia for transliteration of loan words. Kutikuti is plural as shown by the repetition. Cut seems to refer to function, hence scissors. It could be pronounced kooty kooty to give it the cut sound the spelling kati is appropriate.
        There is a formal Polynesian grammar which Maori complies too.

      BTW, the Japanese term for aileron is the old 補助翼 (literally “auxiliary” or “supporting” wing). Most of these aviation terms were well established in Japanese aeronautical engineering after WWI.

  This also occurred around 18 months ago at a prominent Auckland school. A wealthy and extremely attractive girl tried to get revenge on her boyfriend. Even though neither had ever had intercourse she falsely accused him of rape. She spread it around the school that he was a rapist. She did not tell police or her parents, she merely told students. The boy’s classmates bullied him and whispered ‘rapist’ every time he walked past. He was a quiet, gentle and kind boy. He was forced to temporarily leave school. He failed his exams and attempted suicide. His family tried to deal with it quietly as any smear to his name (whether true or not) Could ruin his life. They engaged a lawyer, talked to the school and the girl’s parents. The school said that as the act he was accused of occurred out of school, it was not their business. The boy eventually returned to school but chose to move down a year to avoid the bullies and retake his qualifications. The girl remains at the school and the school made no attempt to expell her . She admitted she had lied as she wanted to ‘hurt’ him. However, strangely every few months she repeats her accusations around school once again. This girl has done terrible damage to this boy. Many boys are steering well clear of this girl. I personally believe her presence at the school is a danger to the safety of the boys if it occurs again.

When women are forced to accept Transgender people in their private places, resulting, just last week in 9 year old girl being assaulted by a transgender person in a woman’s bathroom, we must acknowledge that there is a problem.

When a transgender woman in prison rapes 2 female inmates, There are issues.

A rather concerning pamphlet in our letterbox…..

‘Biosecurity NZ’ is investigating a find of two Houseflies (Musca domestica) in a surveillance trap in Remuera.

The flies were collected from a housefly-trap and formally identified on the afternoon of 19 February. A controlled area notice has been issued for Remuera.

‘Biosecurity NZ’ staff are well practiced in dealing with this situation. Since the Flies were found, we’ve been working to locate any others and eradicate them.

Signs have been erected in Remuera informing residents, that where possible, to dispose of their daily waste in council rubbish bins located in outlying suburbs, pending your normal weekly collection.

CALL US IF YOU SEE A HOUSEFLY OR LARVAE.

Three Tory Remoaners have now defected to join the 8 Labour defectors. The three Tories are Remoaners (good riddance). There is talk there will be up to a further 10 Tory defectors. The Tories are all complaining their local constituencies have been taken over by hardline Brexiteers from the collapsed UKIP.

Reality check here, UKIP was comprised largely of people from the Conservative Party in the county shires of southern and middle England. These people left the Tory Party because the leadership of the Tory party from John Major to David Cameron were weak on Europe and were supported/bank rolled by corporate vested interests that traded with Europe. (For those that scoff, it was common until the Blair govt clamped down on it for MPs & Cabinet/govt ministers to make more money from lobbying interests than from their parliamentary salary – the worst example in modern times was David Mellor).

Anyhow, the other side of the coin is the expectation that an ever greater number of Labour Remoaner MPs will defect because of Corbyn is ambivalent when the next vote on Europe is held.

Commentators are saying this could be more substantial a shift in British politics than when the Gang of 4 went off to form the SDLP.

Late in yesterday’s GD Maggy W posted a link to an article by Jesse Mulligan expressing his shock at Ngai Tahu cutting down a forest and bringing about the extinction of a beetle species for the sake of a dairy farm, despite the pleas and offers of assistance from the Department of Conservation.

It’s a sad tale, but perhaps some good may come of it if it causes Jesse and his like to do some actual, serious thinking as to why they are surprised that iwi would do such a thing.

The myth of the “noble savage” imbued with a deep sense of care and one-ness with the environment is a fine and lovely thing that we’d all like to believe, but in the real world there’s precious little hard evidence that other cultures (given the technology and the opportunity) are any better at environmental stewardship, and certainly not more willing to make sacrifices for it, than is the white patriarchy. Why should they, and why would they, put concern for beetles ahead of an opportunity to make money that their people need?

In this case the lovely, fluffy lefty assumption that other cultures are better at self denial and long term thinking than ours, the more so the more primitive they are, has led to real damage.

With Rachel Stewart’s thoughts on Jordan Petersen, that makes two articles in which lefty journos show some sign that reality is getting through to them in as many days. If this continues the Right will have to up its game in the battle for the reasonable centre

    Indeed. The existence of a word for it in te reo seems to be the main evidence for its existence as a guiding force in Maori life, and that is no evidence at all. English also has words for many fine concepts – courtesy, responsibility, charity etc – but this is no evidence that these things are likely to be practised by all or even most English speakers, particularly when there is enrichment at stake.

If that campaign was balanced with honest and accurate reporting of ardern the liar and her coalition with wynston the thief and the watermelon greens then I would say go for it.

Agnes Loheni (National’s newest MP) delivered a very fine Maiden Statement yesterday.

She spoke powerfully about her upbringing and about how her parent’s high expectations of her helped her to achieve.

She also spoke about the “soft bigotry of low expectations” that is stopping many people in our country from achieving. She borrowed that phrase from a speech writer for George W Bush, but it is very apt.

  As a follow up to this deal, I heard the Property Council singing the praises of the deal and suggesting that more construction companies should get with the programme.
  
  KiwiBuild is all sizzle and no sausage because:
  1. It is building cramp, cheap dog boxes nobody wants,;
  2. Is expensive to administer;
  3. Is propping up builders, building houses nobody wants;
  4. Is using builders and resources that could be better deployed elsewhere.
  
  When will these muppets get out that politicians need to stop wasting taxpayers money, then we would not need a Tax Working Group looking at how to fleece taxpayers for more tax.

      In the Mike Greer deal, I suspect a lot of the private builds were finished prior to the announcement. Back of the envelope maths suggests if 1/3 of the 104 houses were already finished, and another 1/3 will be built on land Mike Greer purchased but hasn’t built on as he knows they won’t sell, eg unused holdings in Rangiora, Kaiapoi and Rolleston, that his company has just been bailed out by around 20-25 million dollars.

Saw this on the news last night. Another solution looking for a problem.

These folks receive (lower) special pay rates which are then supplemented with targeted benefits.

I don’t have a problem with any of that.

The employer is able to offer more uneconomical jobs by paying the lower rate (indeed many are charities setup for this purpose).

The state is then able to provide additional aid based on the needs of the individual.

These people don’t have to work for these rates, I’m sure there is nothing stopping them not working or going to the market for minimum wage or more.

On the TV the minister suggested that employers would be made to pay minimum wage and retain uneconomical jobs by way of a subsidy to the employer.

Of course if they receive minimum wage then these people will receive less targeted assistance.

The question I have is why?

WHY?

If the people you are supposedly helping are no better off, then what is the purpose of the exercise?

It would appear that offering an subsidy to employers is an increase in corruption risk and will attract shady characters to the market sector.

It would also seem that the government is abdicating their responsibility of care to the employers.

  Lesser productive workers because of disabilities cannot expect to earn as much. Not everyone can have executive pay rates while working as a cleaner. There is an element of misfortune in society which has to be endured. Humans are not manufactured to ISO specifications. WFF provides a minimum income level for some and there are disability allowances as well.
  
  A hidden disability is the lack of sound physical and mental health. How can govt or employers reasonably compensate for alcohol or drug abuse. Likewise, lower intellect, leading to a performance level below higher achievers. Inequality is intrinsic in society.
  
  Are we to have a regulated standard income for all?
  We already have an enviable safety net which net taxpayers provide.

        Some farms may be intergenerational but these days there is still a significant cost to buy and stock a farm and this often involves a gradual transfer of the asset.

Kathryn Ryan talking to some Samoan woman complaining about LBGTQ rights in Samoa and blaming it all on colonialism.

Apparently laws that were introduced by the Evil NZ colonialists in the 1930s or something are still on the books so it is all our fault.

No matter that Samoa has been self governing for 57 years (since 1962) and has ample time to change any oppressive colonial laws. Whatever laws there are in Samoa are of their own choosing.

Ryan does not call her out on this: surprise, surprise!

Firstly, not happy about the CGT maths. They said it would be revenue neutral.

They say they will be raising 8 billion extra a year, but only handing each taxpayer around $500… being generous and guessing we have around 3million tax payers who might earn 20k a year, that works out to a payback of 1.5 billion.

So , the government is retaining an extra 6.5 billion out of our pockets.

Just my initial impression, of course, it is a dynamic scenario, CGT only brings in small amounts at first and increases to 8 billion sometime in future…. therefore up front the govt takes in less money and catches up over time.

  2) Girls have to start early if they’re going to produce 14 ill brought up brats before menopause.

  4) The instructions on contraception aren’t written in Te Reo.
  
  5) Most people in Kaitaia are so fried on P that they can’t recall yesterday so what hope of remembering to use protection during sex.
  
  6) Kids growing up in houses headed by males who are not their biological fathers.

    The Australian Government’s position has shifted many times, but my understanding is that previously – and perhaps still now – the Australian Government made acceptance of NZ’s resettlement offer conditional on legislation being passed (in Australia) that would prevent the resettled people from ever visiting Australia – even as tourists.     Saw some research the other day that maintains quite a large portion of Catholic clergy are actually atheists.
    
    They generally realise this later in their career but by then it’s too late, they don’t fancy losing their meal ticket so remain within the church.

Disgusting comments from Peter McIlwain on Nat Radio this morning. There was a news item about the American students who were abused for wearing MAGA hats. by a repulsive native indian and some other demented clowns. The boys’ parents are suing some news media for slander. Peter McIlwain commented that the boy was aggressive, arrogant and he hopes he gets nothing because he deserves nothing and his behaviour was disgraceful (I’m paraphrasing but that’s the gist). It is shocking, that an announcer on our national radio station can make up shit like this and spread it around. It has been proven conclusively that the boys behaved honourably and were the victims in an aggressive attack by left wing agitators who took exception to their hats. The boy in question stood still without a hint of aggression but clearly utterly bemused by the situation and then left as soon as he had the opportunity. I might need to report this to the broadcasting authority.

I’m going to put in a complaint to the broadcasting authority on the grounds that it was not factual (one of the categories offered) I am sure they keep tapes of their programmes for at least a while so they should be able to find the snippet for confirmation. Some lefty woman hurled her venom at Bridges about the CGT thing and he dealt with it as best he could.
Then Mark Richardson came on and he kicked her into touch, big time.
That man needs to be a NationaL MP, starting with Botany 2020.
But the sad thing is that he’s probably too smart to put up with all the PC crap, the endless meetings and the time away from home, not to mention the earnings cut from where he is now.
