  Yesterday I posted my displeasure with our pm continually wearing a headscarf.
  
  I referenced three international articles, two detailing muslim women imprisoned for not wearing the head scarf and another showing roadside posters in Afghanistan demonising women who did not wear the acarf.
  
  The post was blocked for some reason.
  
  I was criticising ardern………. not muslims as many do not and will not wear a head scarf as has been detailed by two articles published in NZ written by young, practicing muslim women.
  
  I am still criticising her for this “virtue signalling” crap.

    I support that criticism too. The scarf is cultural Islam which is required to seek converts. It keeps muslim women “in their place”. Christian evangelism is being denigrated why should Islamic proselytation be given freer reign particularly as their package includes Sharia law?

    personally I’m not fussed if it was 3/12 out from the event I would wonder.
    I suspect if it isn’t her virtue signalling as you opine, it is advice from op int and security to keep a kind and subjective face before the world.
    She also is primarily thinking of the families of the 50 killed too, rightly so to my mind.
    What they are going through right now must be horrendous.

To all the Trump supporters gloating about the Mueller report over the past few days… just take a second to consider how low that means the bar has to be set for Trump.

“Yay, my candidate hasn’t been indicted for conspiring with a foreign power” really shouldn’t be something that merits celebration.

And in any event, the misguided celebrations are premature. We haven’t seen the actual report yet – just a four page summary from a Trump-loyalist. The report itself is reportedly between 300 and 1000 pages long. That’s a lot of pages for a baseless witch-hunt.

  Than – I would agree with you only in that the report is probably long, given that the report cost $25 million, took two years, 500 witnesses were interviewed and a number of people were sent to jail for crimes unrelated to the central accusation.
  
  However everything else you say is wildly off the mark. It may be trolling on your part? But here goes.
  
  There was never anything to the central narrative of Trump/Russia collusion. It was an invention to try and explain how Hillary Clinton lost the 2016 election. It was then used to delegitimise the new president with the hope of stymieing his agenda and ultimately removing him from office through impeachment.
  
  But I will write this very slowly so everyone can understand. After an exhaustive investigation the special Counsel found no evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia.
  
  The four-page summary was prepared by the Atty Gen William Barr and the Deputy Attorney Rod Rosenstein. The latter supervised the whole investigation up until very recently.
  
  So it is over. There was no Trump and Russia collusion. It was all made up.

  Also before Than’s comment disappears it would be wise to reflect on how the New Zealand media has led us up the garden path on Trump/Russia collusion. If you read the New Zealand media then you could be forgiven for thinking that the central claim is true – that Trump is a traitor to his country who conspired with Vladimir Putin to win the 2016 election and deny Hillary Clinton the presidency that is rightfully hers.
  
  Unfortunately the New Zealand media was led by their own hard left bias and the false reporting from the American media.
  
  The Daily Caller has compiled a list of the worst media offenders. The worst of the worst is one Rachel Maddow of MSNBC who has peddled the Trump/Russia collusion narrative for two years and built her program around it.
  
  When the Meuller report came out and no collusion was found she literally cried on TV. Sadly she may have cried some more the next day when she found out that her show has now lost a full half a million viewers!

    Well, we are relying on Barr to produce an accurate summary of the report. If it is significantly inaccurate I doubt he ( and Rod Rosenstein) would survive as they’re Democrats with the free “Get out of Jail” card that they seem to possess. So I reckon that the conclusion is well founded – no collusion and no obvious obstruction of justice.
    
    There may be meat in the details, but maybe not. What is clear is that the collusion narrative – always completely manufactured bullshit – should be dead. But even now many substantive figures including Adam Schiff continue to peddle that line. Many continue to claim that they have good solid evidence, though it does seem odd that they don’t seem to have informed Mueller of that evidence. Although more likely I guess is that the evidence is purely their fevered imaginations hard at work.

    Your comment doesn’t distinguish between Islam and Islamism which is the political function that Sharia law results from.
    
    If you are talking specifically about Brunei then it is ok-ish. Otherwise it falls into the unacceptable category of lumping Islam in with Islamism as a political movement, as per DPFs post the other day.

      Brunei is an islamic state, a very conservative state and an autocratic state ruled by the sultan. I have a mate who worked there for many years but was unable to live there as he and his partner were not married. He commuted from Penang by ferry.
      
      I for one, cannot see the fine line that you have drawn between islam and islamism here. Dignap’s comment is factually correct and sharia law is being implemented in most countries that could be considered Autocratic.

        What Brunei has done and is doing deserves debate. There is more leniency for debating a specific event such as that of course.
        
        You’ve articulated it better than dignap did. He wasn’t clear about the distinction and his comment could very easily be interpreted to be talking about all of Islam. He made no reference to Brunei or autocratic states as you have done.
        
        His comment was much broader and so sails very close to saying all of Islam is like that, when it isn’t as we are seeing right now in Christchurch at the memorial.

        Islam is quite literally a creed that is all encompassing. It mandates a particular way of living, specific beliefs, an adherence to the orthodoxy (which unlike most other monotheistic religions brooks no possibility that it may be flawed) and it also mandates that god’s law is supreme above man-made laws.
        
        Like it or not this is exactly what Islam is.
        
        What your comment comes very close to saying (personally I’d suggest it actually does say it) is that this particular religion is above criticism and scrutiny.
        
        Nowhere in this thread are muslims, or however you care to describe adherents to the Islamic faith, criticised, lumped together, villified or humiliated. The comment you are critical of solely comments on the articles of faith, Sharia if you will, of this particular religion.
        
        Your comments imply that Islam is now off-limits when it comes to debate.
        
        As I’ve said regularly, the shooter’s stated plan is working. We are now self-censoring on the basis of “just in case.” A bad day for western democracy and civilisation.

        Go and look at DPFs very long and reasoned post about this. We’re not going beyond that. The comment stands but people wanted examples of comments that run up to the line so we’re providing that.
        
        Islam is most certainly not beyond criticism and debate, hence why the comment stays. My own view is actually that moderate Islam needs to stand up and be much more vocal in condemning extremism, political Islam, and barbaric practices that have no place in the modern world. Starting with making women cover up which is absolutely ridiculous outside of, say, physically being at a mosque.

        I could provide you links to an almost infinite number of mullahs, imams and Islamic scholars who categorically state that the social and political aims of the Islamic faith are intrinsic to the doctrine just as much as the religious aspect is.
        
        What you, and DPF, have done is to redefine Islam to suit your view and purposes. I think you have done this in good faith but I also think that you are misguided.
        
        Islam is a militant faith, as was the Christian faith before the reformation and it seeks to convert every human to its doctrines.
        
        Now you could argue that the Christian faith would also like everyone to be Christian but for the most part that old-style missionary approach has died a natural death. Certainly the conversion-at-the-point-of-a-sword ended long ago.
        
        Conversely one of the central tenets of Islamic doctrine is jihad (struggle) and by that I don’t mean violence, but a part of jihad is an obligation to proselytise and convert unbelievers.
        
        Simply it’s an openly militant and expansionist faith that encompasses every part of an individual’s life, the political and religious aspects are not separate and no distinction is drawn between.
        
        For a non-muslim to attempt to the boundaries and literally separate the inseparable is ludicrous in the extreme.

        He lived in Brunei Monday to Friday but his partner lived in Penang.
        
        Penang was stuck in my head because he kept nagging me to meet him there and his brother, also a mate, catches up with him there every few years.
        
        He worked in a private school there and was paid enormous money so I think he may well have flown there.
        
        He did 20 years there before deciding enough was enough and moved to Canberra.

        No idea but I would imagine that there differing enforcement levels.
        
        From my limited experience of islam, I believe that the head scarf thingy is more middle eastern than elsewhere, probably descending from Bedouin rraditions.
        
        I have also been informed that the Saudis are building mosques around the world and generally when they do, a little more conservatism is injected into that community.

      That you haven’t read the Sira nor the Koran is clear to me. ( I do recommend you do as I do everyone over 16yrs old).
      
      Sharia Law comes from the Koran and from Muhammads Sunna (works and words) ie Example…
      Sharia Law is the practical outworking of Islam, not Islamism.
      
      Muhammads Sunna is confirmed and elucidated within the Hadiths.
      Muhammad is Islam and Islam is Muhammad.
      
      Islamism is the movement within the Ummah driving Jihad (Asymetrical) (in all the realms we exists in) as called for by Muhammad by all observant Muslims towards the Kafir world.(ie non believers).
      
      Political Islam as coined by Bernard Lewis and others and enunciated clearly by Bill Warner is a subset of Jihad, which is asymetrical.
      
      It is confirmed and elucidated within the Hadiths.
      Muhammad is Islam and Islam is Muhammad.

      That is great question at an individual level.
      A great question, made ineffective by Taqqiya.
      
      If a person doesn’t believe in death for Apostasy they insult Muhammad, who laid that as a foundation for Mohamedians as they were called in the beginning..

      Obviously not in NZ as they Ummah is so small and ineffective in driving Sharia at present.
      I’d like to think our culture and openness to speaking our mind hasn’t encouraged that.
      
      Muhammad considered people to be observant or unobservant and in his later years, considered the unobservant to be apostates.
      
      Do a google on Muhammad’s last words before death.
      
      Whilst I wish to think the best of you, but with the framing of your words, I take your comment to Batman as setting him up for targeting or shutting him down.

        To help in reading the koran, one can google and find the chronological order, as the koran is rather a jumble, since bar the first surah being the shortest, and then the longest to the shortest surah.
        That chronoligical division is also recognized as the earlier Mecca Suras, and then the later Medina Suras, though sometimes there can be overlapping verses in some suras.
        
        This difference helps in recognizing and understanding naskh.
        There are 2 verses explained by Mohammad showing that this is the better verses for you, in case you think there is a contradiction.
        A further 3 verses also indicate naskh, that is abrogating earlier verses and the new verses now over ride some earlier verses.
        
        For some parts naskh is straight forward. In other parts then it is debated by the scholars just whether it is authoritative, or weak. This can be applied through hadith and correlates to the koran.
        
        I hope that proves helpful in the first time reading of the koran, and then any subsequent time in check points later, should be easier to find and figure out.

    Anyone see the article in the ‘Daily Mail’ of the Auckland community leader, at one of the ‘luv’ gatherings up there saying he “thought” was not absolutely sure the Mossad were behind this but he thought it was and his brother in the (Islamic) green T-shirt shouting ‘yes’ it was Israel’, think he was a Maori brother? Still there but at the bottom of the page this a.m. Think it was Jo Carolan’s lot.

        The accused appeared in Court last year, and was indeed granted name suppression. He pleaded Not Guilty, and was remanded to 18th March for a defended hearing.
        
        Given that date has passed without any reporting as to the progress or otherwise of the matter, it is not unreasonable to wonder what is happening, or whether there has been some sort of deal done by the lawyers behind the scenes. Given the cover-up instigated by Labour, it would probably be the fitting way for the matter to end; a cover-up from start to finish!

 However, if over a decade Forestry re-plants 770 million trees to counter a felling or harvesting rate of 95%, that will leave a net Forestry number of 38.5 million trees to add to Shane’s 330 million, and the total then will be 368.5 million trees rather than 1 billion.

Or, while Shane Jones says “Let’s see if we can get more than a billion trees in the ground, eh” and that does happen, with Shane’s plantings, and with Forestry re-planting cleared sites, those sites will be clear because in the same time Forestry will have felled 738,150,000 mature trees – each felled at about 28 years, rather than fuller maturity of 40 years.

And a couple of days ago – “Forest CO2 absorption strategy ‘carries significant risks’ – report”
The country’s strategy was to offset emissions by investing in overseas reductions schemes [is that: getting someone else to do what we should] and by planting trees, which absorb CO2 as they grow.

The report highlighted risks of using forests as a carbon sink. “Storing the waste from fossil emissions in forest sinks is simply delaying the inevitable,” it said.

Translation: It means planting a billion trees is the same answer as Ardern’s Winston-selected Government has with all its committees, working groups and inquiries: that is kick the can down the road …

Nuclear power has the problem of what should be done with the waste. It can be stored but not indefinitely. Same apparently with storing the waste from fossil emissions in forest sinks.

Nowhere as bad as Fukushima, but heading that way.

    Not so.
    
    The physical quantities of the fuel burned are indeed extremely small, so too are the physical amounts of high level waste.
    
    Just about everything coming out of a nuclear station is low-level waste. This still has to be contained and treated as nuclear waste (albeit with lower handling regimes). Overalls, shoes, tools, etc etc all end up becoming low level waste. Almost none of it can be used as a byproduct except waste heat.
    
    The stuff coming out of thermal station still has uses. eg. fly ash can be used to make concrete.
    
    That said, if I was offered to live next door to a nuke or a thermal plant I would pick the nuke every time.

      This is very promising technology. I have been following this will some interest since 2009. The key is that it’s subcritical with the opportunity to transmute spent fuel rods significantly reducing the half life as well as alternative, plentiful fuels like Thorium. I’ll be attending a conference in Melbourne in late May where there will be some interesting discussions around the technology.

      I read an interesting article the other day. It indicated that the much of the low level waste coming out of Fukushima was in fact lower than the natural background radiation of some populated places (Rocky mountains IMS).
      
      It suggested that since the populations subject to high natural radiation don’t experience abnormally high cancer rates, we are being overly cautious about some of our disposal/remediation practices.

The media have been touting a ‘Masterton farmer” very heavily since he was reported as having handed in his semi auto.
Now that he has had an op ed piece published in the Washington Post his profile has been raised again.

In the early pieces I noted our media did mention he was a Green parliamentary candidate. The Wapo article doesn’t and nor have the recent TV3 nor his magic talk interview yesterday.

Shouldn’t the media make that clear ?

        My understanding of the law is that fatal force with a firearm is permitted if you have a genuine fear for you life or the life of another.

      Historically jews tried to maintain genetic separation from the populations they were embedded within, but they were largely unsuccessful, probably due to occasions of war, pogroms, rape and a degree of intermarriage etc, and were in fact almost genetically identical with their surrounding populations, middle eastern jews had middle eastern genetics, european jews had european genetics, african jews had african genetics. But they were also generally biased towards being smarter due to the evolutionary pressures that being Jewish created (only their smartest were able to overcome their cultural disadvantages to enable them to successfully raise families).

      Judaism, although largely by genetic descent, is actually able to be joined. Thus Jews are mostly but not exclusively able to be potentially identified by DNA. I am not sure if this works for the differing populations claiming Jewish descent.
      
      By contrast Islam is not specifically by descent, and I would posit that there is little or no genetic commonality (other than being human of course – but something readily identifiable by current DNA tests) between say an Indonesian Muslim, a Uighur from China, a Saudi Arabian, and a Nigerian Muslim.
      
      There are commonalities of practice – in some senses Islam is a “heresy” of Judaism (like Christianity), but unlike Judaism which is in many ways “tribal” and related to certain population for the most part, Islam is like Christianity in that it has adherents in many areas with many groups.

The Newshub Poll currently shows that 73% believe the positive sentiment following the Christchurch atrocity will not last.

Sadly, this is hardly surprising when we have already had an extreme left MP use it as an opportunity to attack white folk in general, and the chair of the country’s largest mosque use it as an opportunity to stir up anti-semitic sentiment.

        Obviously there are many who, unlike you, think this “fuss” isn’t unjustified, and see it more as an act to spite Barrant rather than forward his cause.
        
        We live with the slow accumulation of deaths from suicide or road accidents. Rightly or wrongly, mass deaths in our own backyard, such as this massacre, the Chch earthquake, the Tangawai disaster, or the Wahine sinking, grab the public’s attention much more readily. In the case of the recent Chch massacre, perhaps even more so because it wasn’t just an “act of god”. You might argue that it isn’t right, fair, or “justified”, but that’s the way it is.

        I’ve never really thought about the suicide stats as “slow accumulation”. 13 per week on average, almost 2 per day. So it takes a month to equal the Christchurch murders.

        I do believe there was a “flaw” in the system approving Tarrant’s firearms license.
        
        I do not believe that people should be dobbing others in because they think they look fishy or express a differing view to their own.
        
        Finally, yes, I think the vast majority of those parading around in scarves to show support are misguided and virtue signalling which is why they spend so much time looking around to see who is looking at them.
        
        And as for the two non male green mps, they and their actions are disgusting and if our “sainted” pm does not “call” them out over this it proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that she is indeed as shallow as a puddle.

And, come election time, voters need to look beyond this massacre (which she has handled well, to give credit where I think it is due) and look at the big picture. That said, I find “Jacindaphobia” just as tiresome.
        
        Gun legislation? I don’t see the National Party jumping in to defend your point of view. Against the backdrop of all the head shaking that NZers do whenever there has been similar shooting in the USA (and Australia’s reaction to Port Arthur), something like the proposed changes to the gun laws was going to happen no matter who was in power after an incident like this (imho).

Calling Rodney Local Board (particularly the 3 of you from the Warkworth area), enjoy the remaining 6 months of you slurpping at the public trough. As for Phelan Pirrie (the Deputy Local Board Chair) and your delusions of being the Local Ward Councillor, you have no chance.

Because in 6 months time your re-election’s are not assured after your failed con job you pulled last year.

Last year, these councillors conned (by a narrow margin) to support a proposal to ‘improve Rodney Local Transport’ by paying an extra $150 per annum on our rates. To most Rodney residents this read like, we pay a bit extra ($4.6mill per annum) to get the 683km of unsealed roads sealed. This was a politician’s promise that they could never be able to deliver on.

Instead they have bought with the money: 2 transport consultants (from a Parnell based urban/environmental consultancy and 3 bus services (2 started on 24/2/2019 and the 3rd will start in May). The problem with the bus services is that one of the services had been provided in the past by AT and withdrawn because of lack of patronage, but they pressed on.

So, now Rodney residents are paying for services that carry fresh air (patronage is averaging 2 people per bus). While on those unsealed roads, residents suffer excessive wear and tear on their vehicles; regular diversions on to the same rural roads every time there is an incident/accident on the major routes (SH1 & SH16).

The fundamental problem is these local politicians forgot who elected them and what they were elected to do. That is represent the needs their local residents on a local basis!!!

    Yep Tall Man that is why the Board Chairman (ACT Deputy Leader Beth Houlbrooke) set up community Facebook pages to talk at the community about what we will receive. Only for her to ban people from the page when she gets feedback that does not want, or she attempts to use supporters to shout down those giving negative feedback.
    
    This is what is evident in Rodney, despite the Council’s website stating that Local Board Councillors are meant to engage with local residents.
    
    Yes, it may be utopian to expect that these people will engage with those that they are meant to represent and pay for them to sup at the public trough. But unless we call these people to account, nothing will get better. One of our local members is so silent it is hard to discern what she does for her salary plus meeting attendance fees!

        That depends on who you count as an MP in the Rodney ward.
        
        Geographically, the ward covers Rodney Helensville, the southern end of the Northland seat (Wellsford to just north of TeHana) plus the Maori seat TeTaiTokerau.
        
        So, you’ve got 3 National (Mitchell & 2 junior members) and any number of CoL members.

  Considering land upheavals have resulted in movements of metres in that same time, I think I can cope with the 2mm.
  
  In the last 100 years both Wellington and Kaikoura are now metres higher and drier than they were.
  
  If parts of NZ flood, the biggest threat by far is land slumping due to seismic activity. Anyone worrying about a bit of CO2 is being silly.

    Alien – she cares what she wears and a lot of time and thought go into it. So we should take notice too, as that is exactly what she intends.
    My view is that she has a superb team of advisers who know exactly how to dress her up and school her in what to say, her own natural inclination is to show empathy and, thanks to all of that along with tons of special moments and symbolism, has NZ being showered with love in Turkey and Dubai and god knows where else instead of a jihad or fatwah being issued.
    Good on her and her team. Masterful PR in what could have been a catastrophic situation.

  I don’t know what she said. I automatically hit the off button the moment her voice comes over the radio. However, as I absolutely trust your judgment and respect your opinion, I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt in this case. The interesting thing would be how people would react if Trump had said the exact same words… Lastly, she needs to back off now, else she be accused of trying to make political mileage out of this. Two weeks have passed now. (That’s 798 more dead South Africans and nary a word from the world….)

The speech might have ticked all the boxes on paper but in reality it was a whole lot of empty hypocritical words.
“Racism exists but is not welcome here” only applies if the people expressing this sentiment are not in your government or supporting parties which keep you in power because if this is the case they will be overlooked or explained away.
Clean your own house first before lecturing others I reckon.

We live in a **crazy old world**.

A man kills 50 people in Christchurch and he is rightfully despised.

A man 1400 years ago orders the killing of almost *900* men, women and children – 18 times the number in Christchurch – and founds an ideology.
The ideology’s texts show that the founder raided camel-caravans, owned slaves and much more, yet that ideology is **accepted** and its 1.5 billion followers (who revere its founder) are **fawned over** by the public and media.

Leaders and lefties tell constant lies about Islam (“oh, it’s not the “real” Islam…” ) and are respected for their “knowledge” of Islam.

Other BRAVE and knowledgeable people tell the *truth* about Islam and are scorned and shunned – even **arrested** (as Elizabeth Sabbaditsch-Woolf was).

A book by Jordan Peterson is removed from sale at Whitcoulls.
Meanwhile, the Quran (which is **packed** with hateful verses towards non-Muslims) continues to be sold.

Someone book me a trip to the moon…. 🙁

I’ve just read the Prime Minister’s speech to the adoring multitudes at Christchurch today. (May I suggest you refrain from following suit until your tea has reached the point of no return.)

In any case, after analysing the verbiage, I’m left with the opinion that I have underrated her as a political operator. The feelings laden crap would have captured 99% of the nation’s females & at least 1% of the potential male audience.

She has no substance, no idea & no ability but brother……can she emote!

    She definitely didn’t write it or choreograph the delivery. As you point out the speech was full of plagiarisms but lacked the buzzwords & slogans that typify an Ardern response to anything.
    
    Instead we were treated to raw emotion, pure emotion, gut-wrenching emotion. The only thing lacking was sincerity.

    Simon cannot compete in a popularity contest. He has to say our team is stronger and here is why.
