  I’ve just read that last Friday…
  
  ONE OF THREE women allegedly involved in a foiled plot in 2016 to blow up a car packed with gas canisters near the Notre Dame cathedral in Paris was today sentenced to eight years in prison by a French court for earlier offences.
  
  Ines Madani, 22, was sentenced following a three-day trial during which she was accused of encouraging would-be jihadists to go to Syria and participate in attacks against France between March 2015 and June 2016
  
  And 72 hours later a fire… which authorities were so fast to declare ‘accidental’ that they almost beat the fire crews to the site.

Listening to Winston Peters and his strident condemnation of *The Red Cross* for releasing the name of missing New Zealand nurse Louisa Akavi, it sounds as though he may well know a lot more than he’s currently letting on.
Perhaps we should be standing by for another of Winnie’s…… “I told you so” moments?

A Boost for Freedom of Speech. Prof Peter Ridd the number one expert on the Barrier Reef was fired from James Cook Uni for saying that the climate change nutters who said the reef was falling apart were wrong.

The Oz Courts have found that he was unlawfully dismissed and sliced and diced JCU on every action it took against Ridd.

JCU like our Massey have shown that academia has been become an Evil Empire of oppression against freedom of thought and freedom of expression.

Once universities were the place of learning discussion and debate.

Now they are the Lefts school of propaganda churning out little clones of the Left that run them.

Those who value Free Speech For All must continue the fight against the Left whose agenda is to shut down anyone who doesnt agree with them.

In this of course they are aligned with Islam whose teachings require all to follow to faith or be punished.

The Left and Islam have much in common.

      The University refused to engage in the science with Ridd.
      
      Instead they sought to railroad him with the code of conduct, which (in the way they wished to apply it) at odds with the Enterprise Agreement which guaranteed academic freedoms and took precedence.
      
      Why do advocates for global warming seek to silence dissenting voices by every mechanism except robust academic discussion.
      
      Other groups which engage in similar behaviour tend to be religious nutters.

        Ridd does not think that human-caused climate change is a problem, and he thinks the reef is in fabulous health. This has been his public position for at least a decade.
        
        But in 2017, Ridd started to publicly accuse his scientific colleagues, some of which were based at his own university in Townsville, Australia, of being untrustworthy. This went against the university’s code of conduct. The university censured him. Ridd refused to back down and made more statements. He published “private” university correspondence on his website. He was further disciplined, so he sued his employer. Then they fired him.
        
        Ridd and a former colleague Piers Larcombe claimed they had found flaws in nine scientific papers published between 2003 and 2013, mostly by scientists at the Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS).
        
        But in a response, the AIMS scientists wrote that Ridd’s criticism was based on “misinterpretation, selective use of data, and over simplification.”
        
        What’s more important though, is that the paper added: “Given their sincere call to improve quality control processes in science, it is interesting that nowhere in their Viewpoint article do Larcombe and Ridd make it clear to readers that many of their criticisms of the nine [Great Barrier Reef] papers have been raised previously and have been thoroughly addressed by the original authors.”

  Australia’s Great Barrier Reef is in some serious trouble, with the latest research in the journal Nature showing the number of new corals has dropped by 89 percent.
  
  In 2016 and 2017, the reef was smashed by back-to-back mass bleaching events and heat stress caused by global warming that killed about half the corals.
  
  “Dead corals don’t make babies,” said James Cook University’s Professor Terry Hughes, the paper’s lead author.
  
  “We used to think that the Great Barrier Reef was too big to fail — until now,” added colleague Professor Morgan Pratchett.
  
  The paper was just the latest in a steady and, many would agree, depressing parade of findings for the World Heritage icon. And if the scientific papers don’t do it for you, then there are always the pictures.
  
  But the release of the study served as a remarkable contrast to the way the Rupert Murdoch-owned Sky News, furnished with material from climate science denial think tank the Institute of Public Affairs, has been “reporting” on reef science in the past week.
  
  On at least five occasions the channel has interviewed the IPA’s policy director Gideon Rozner, who has been updating the channel on the case of Dr. Peter Ridd, a marine scientist specializing in sediments who was fired in March 2018 from James Cook University.
  
  According to the various interviews, the reef is in great shape, the science is probably wrong, and Ridd is a “world renowned” reef expert in a historic fight for freedom. None of this is true, yet the claims have been allowed to stand unchecked.

Folau dropped by Aust, NSW & rugby sponsors. Suddenly he wasn’t such a good player and they had a go at his wife.

MSM still running hate against him. Just running punishment. Folau financially crippled, cant get another job & attempt at exile.

Folau being punished as much as possible just short of prison. There are already censorship rules in place.

Folau a blue print for what the statist scum want for all of society.

      What if he was gay and they said you can be gay but please just don’t let anyone know you are, or make any posts about this part of your life. We don’t want our audience or sponsors to know – they are very conservative. Is that ok ? No! What if it’s in his contract? Still No! Because it would violate his human rights. His rights to life and liberty. To express his fundamental core beliefs. A contract should not extend to every single aspect of your being – 24/7. The correct response from Rugby should have been that Folaus religious beliefs and activities are no business of us an employer. We don’t as an organisation support his personal statements, we continue to have an inclusive organisation and team filled with people from many different countries, lifestyles, and religious beliefs. Mr Folau has a right to a his life and beliefs outside rugby and we won’t mandate against his or anyone else’s cultural, religious, sexual or political identity. If you support the fact that an employer has the right to contract what personal religious beliefs an employee can express it is but a short step till a government similarly takes upon itself the right to forcibly ‘contract’ what religious beliefs its citizens are allowed to express?       My wife and I are both Christians and employers. Christian principles underpin our business, but we are not particularly overt about our faith. We employ a number of non-Christians.
      
      We have a social media policy in place, signed off by an employment lawyer, that covers staff bringing the business into disrepute via social media. It is discussed with the staff members when they are inducted, and we’ve never had to formally invoke the policy. It all comes down to communicating the expectations.

        What has happened here is a particular vocal and noisy minority have organized a lynch mob to go after someone they disagree with.
        
        Where we end up is that public debate will be controlled by people who shout the loudest and most people will be too intimidated to participate.

        It is far beyond a private employment matter. This is fairly clear. Although one means of punishment is to hurt his income.
        
        The attacks on Folau are still ongoing and are beyond employment. MSM had a go at his wife. Can you explain this?
        
        Overall its an attempt at exile for the crime of exercising his right to free speech.
        
        Can at least agree there are “consequences’ for speaking forbidden words. Statist scum want to widen these “consequences” for society as far as possible.

    Folau is witnessing to the power of God’s word. It does have an effect on humans as they react to it. It has power to change peoples lives. The message was not of Folau but straight from scripture. Christians are called to give the Good News of Christmas and Easter to the world.

  Israel Folau has to be made an example of. That’s what the homosexual lobby is saying. That’s what the corporate sponsors such as Qantas are saying.
  
  Remember that Israel Folau put on Twitter and Instagram his statement about fornicators and homosexuals going to hell. If you don’t like what Israel said then you can block him on Twitter and unfollow him on Instagram. You don’t ever have to read his social media posts again!
  
  Remember what he said is also a spiritual statement. So he is not promoting harm against homosexuals, he is warning them of the consequences of their behaviour as it relates to the afterlife. So his statements are of a religious and spiritual nature. They are as per what the Bible says.
  
  Presumably the Australian rugby union will now put out a list of guidelines of what biblical passages are acceptable and which are not?
  
  Also does this stance apply to everyone or only to Christians?
  
  So if an atheist puts out something like “I don’t believe in hell but if I did there would be a special place in hell for homophobes like Israel Folau”. I have a distinct feeling that would be acceptable to the Australian rugby union and their corporate sponsors such as Qantas?
  
  Also can we please know if this ruling applies to Muslims? If for example a Muslim attends a mosque where he hears an anti-gay sermon would that be acceptable?
  Again I would be surprised if any Muslim is held to the same standard as Israel Folau?
  
  It’s amusing that this stance is being promoted on the grounds of “inclusivity”. It appears that inclusivity does not include Christians? Who knew that the Australian rugby union was so pro-homosexual and anti-Christian?

    Scott, people who believe the complete nonsense that gay people and various other sinners will go to the make-believe place called hell is one thing; but promoting those theories to a large base of followers who are there because of the sport / club and not Israel’s sparking personality, is something else.
    
    I would certainly hope the same would happen to any Muslim sportsperson who put that on social media. Funnily enough there haven’t been any cases. Maybe Muslim sports people are smarter than Christian ones? Who knows!
    
    People should keep their personal beliefs to themselves and not try to put them upon others. That is a true conservative position and anyone who doesn’t believe that cannot call themselves conservative.

      Does that include your personal belief that hell is a make-believe place? Or your personal belief that personal beliefs should be kept private?
      
      Or perhaps we can all act like rational people, and accept that while some people have ideas and beliefs that we don’t agree with, that is an opportunity to engage and debate and reason and challenge thinking. And not an excuse to shut them up and shun them.
      
      To which end, let me thank you for your contribution to this debate. My view differs from yours, but your comment made me think and consider what conservatism – and freedom of expression – means.

  So this morning I got 3 phone calls from people telling me to ‘unlike’ the @izzyfolau post. This is my position on it. I don’t HATE anyone neither do I think I’m perfect. There just comes a point when you insult what I grew up believing in that you just say enough is enough, what he’s saying isn’t that he doesn’t like or love those people. He’s saying how we live our lives needs to be closer to how God intended them to be. Man was made for woman to pro create that was the goal no? I’m not perfect I’m at least everything on that list at least at one point in my life. It hurts to know that. But that’s why I believe there’s a God. To guide and protect us and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.
  
  I guess Christians will just have to go into the closet – so much for the much heralded ” inclusion and diversity”

      You have to enable someone in what they do by not speaking out against it or acting against it even encouraging them. That is compulsory.

I think it was Bush Junior who won an election (apart from the cheating in Florida) people wondered despite incredible unpopularity how he did it. Well one strategy was to turn the election into a plebiscite about single-sex marriage. It ‘just happened’ that many states were running a referendum on it on the same day.
In my opinion, Cannabis is The Green/Labour coalition’s insurance policy. This is why the current administration are using Cannabis reform as a way to galvanise their voters to action next election.

  If they are sticking to that, the National leader will be front and centre next year. Just like Labour’s leader before the 2017 election, except with detailed and costed policies, and draft legislation.

We were watching BBC news last night and they showed an item about some of the amazing Relics they were able to save from the Notre Dame fire.
TBH, we had no idea the ‘Crown of Thorns’ that Jesus wore to his crucifiction more than 2000 years ago even still existed! How incredible is that?! As my partner reminded me, we bought a Rubber Plant for the lounge last year and that only lasted 6 months.

On the Folau issue. If we might briefly put aside the (very real) issues of thought crime, discrimination, freedom of belief, and pillory by media,let’s look at what really got Folau sacked.

The ARU and honest commentators have all admitted that the ARU sacked Folau at the behest of their main sponsor, Qantas. Qantas effectively gave the ARU an ultimatum: sack Folau or we’ll pull our funding, and you’ll face financial ruin.

What was the ARU CEO to do? Roll over and submit? Or make clear that sponsors sponsor the team, and do not and cannot act as selectors, which is a coaching and management decision?

Or do the Qantas board get to pick and choose every Wallaby now? Get final say over every team list? Put forward their own candidates? (Eg. Pick my nephew, or I’ll withdraw my sponsorship.)

Qantas’s part in all this is nothing but corruption, coercion and blackmail.

last year us elderlies and others didn’t get the winter energy payments on 1 May as Jacinda said they needed an extra few weeks to get it absolutely right. So last year in a two pension household only one received the entitlement for both. With another year to get it even more right, the same thing has happened again. MSD say they can’t separate it. So it’s not absolutedly right.

      That’s what happens when you take away discipline out of schools , bullying has happened for years and is more prominent now because their is no discipline and they know teachers can’t do a lot about it. There is good and bad in all races and it is not children’s fault it obviously comes from the way parents talk about others or senior students doing what has happened for decades bullying turd formers as the saying goes.

This is just another example of this useless government unraveling all of the good that Bill English was doing with his insistence that support should be targeted at those in the most need, early in the cycle.

  interesting that tracey’s child had to wait 12 months to access help back when labour was last in government. Intersting to see also Autims NZ are speaking out against Tracey’s claims that it will take time to fix. Na, just a decent minister. Sad that someone with a child who needed help has continued to neglect children who need help and instead of focus on how the time frame went up under her has decided to blame the government that got the time frame hugely reduced

        This law change approved by Jacinda probably wasn’t a good idea either:

        “Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern oversaw recent changes which meant gun licence holders did not need to visit police stations when applying for permits for assault rifles, but could instead apply online.
        
        Previously under the Arms Act, if someone wanted to become a gun dealer, get a firearms licence, import a restricted weapon, or get a permit to buy a MSSA [military style semi-automatic], they had to physically deliver an application to their nearest police station.
        
        For example, if someone with an E-category endorsement was buying an MSSA, they would have to visit their police station for a permit, show the permit to the seller, and then take the weapon back to police.
        
        Under the changes, which came in just before Christmas, that process could be done online, and the firearm shown by video call. Police could ask to see the weapon in person if they were not satisfied they had identified it.”
        
        I guess she didn’t bother to read the proposed law change. A bit like she hadn’t bothered to read what was in the Treaty of Waitangi.

Interesting. Just had a survey about the Crusaders. Three options put in the survey

Option 1 – Retain the ‘Crusaders’ name but change the branding and imagery

Option 2 – Undertake a complete rebranding, including the name and all imagery

Option 3 – I disagree with the above two options – they should stay the same

The Aussies are getting it right.

A man who killed a respected Otago-trained heart surgeon with a single punch has been jailed for manslaughter.

Joseph Esmaili, 24, punched Patrick Pritzwald-Stegmann in the head in May 2017 inside Box Hill Hospital.

The heart surgeon was on his way home after a shift when he saw Esmaili and his friends smoking cigarettes near the hospital entrance.

He was told by Esmaili “you need to suck my d***” and punched once in the head before he fell to the ground and landed hard on a tiled floor.

The 41-year-old was hospitalised for a month before he died.

This morning in the Victorian Supreme Court Judge Elizabeth Hollingworth sentenced Esmaili to 10 years and six months in jail.

Esmaili is the first Victorian to be sentenced under new fatal one-punch laws which carry a minimum jail term of 10 years.

He will not be eligible for parole for 10 years.
