The entitlement only becomes an issue when they end up in an environment where others have the means to deliver their entitlements.     He was never going to return. And I suspect his NZ supporters knew this all along. The proof will be in their reaction from now on. If they urge him to return, I’ll believe they were duped – if they support his asylum claim to me that proves they were in on it.
    
    Either way, we’ve been suckered and the CoL and Greens once again get to parade their virtue at our expense. What expense? From this point on all his expenses; accommodation, health, pocket money, food, clothing etc will be met by us. You just watch.

  Is it not Lees-Galloway, who doesn’t read reports that he should, the one now perhaps remiss in not informing Ardern under “no surprises” policy, or, because of Winston’s aversion to that particular policy, is it no longer followed?
  
  And if Behrouz Boochani wanted to apply for asylum, why did he not apply before his visa ran out.
  Now he is here unlawfully, no?
  
  The statement [from Ardern’s office to the AP] said the prime minister doesn’t believe that Boochani remaining in the country will cause any problems for New Zealand’s close relationship with Australia. Her office referred further questions to immigration officials.
  
  “… doesn’t believe it will cause any problems” – the man is apparently now an overstayer, so has already simply fucked up.
  
  But that is par for the course it seems :
  Ardern … would have liked a heads-up… Immigration Minister Iain Lees-Galloway, in turn, blamed immigration officials, saying they initially told him that Boochani had applied for a visa but then neglected to tell him they’d approved it.
  
  Boochani could not be immediately reached for this story. When he was interviewed by the AP last month, he said he had no interest in returning to Papua New Guinea but wouldn’t be drawn on whether he would seek asylum in New Zealand.
  “I’m really focused on my work here right now. I don’t want to think about those things, or ruin my concentration. I don’t want to politicise things,” Boochani said at the time. “I’m a free man. I want to focus on this festival.”

    If this individual is permitted to remain freely in New Zealand, no doubt adopting NZ citizenship along the way, Ms Ardern (and other New Zealanders who support her actions) can have no complaint if Australia brings to an abrupt end the free flow of people between our two countries.

      Lomai, the Papua New Guinea lawyer, said … the Papua New Guinea government likely figured it would save money and prevent more bad publicity if it allowed Boochani to leave. Lomai said Boochani would be put back in detention if he ever returned.

      From these two statements “Boochani would be put back in detention if he ever returned” and “ Iain Lees-Galloway said they initially told him that Boochani had applied for a visa … ”, why was this man’s status not resolved when he applied for a visitor’s visa, but would be detained on return to Papua New Guinea.
      
      Does overstaying, an illegal act, ensure Papua New Guinea will detain him on return, so he can now claim asylum here now.
      
      Apparently Golriz Ghahraman involves herself in this man’s visit, which in turn does seem a little like Golriz Ghahraman’s family situation where they were free agents, apparently, until the moment in Auckland when they claimed asylum, and so foresaw persecution then back in Iran (as a result of their claim and its reasons), so gave them grounds to apply for refugee status, which a moment before they did not have?

  Boochani’s story is just propaganda. Reality is he was saved by the Australians who have spent vast amounts keeping him and others alive.
  At all times he has had the chance to leave and go anywhere. He would have been given a ticket.
  “imprisoned” is a lie, when he can get a ticket and fly places – unfortunately this time to NZ.

      I sincerely hope National are taking notice of the Boochani incident in order to add it to the list of other F_ups that can be thrown back at ILG and Cindy leading up to the next election.
      
      With ILG stating he was advised by Immigration that this person was about to enter the country, one would have thought ILG’s initial response would have been “don’t issue the bastard with a visa under any circumstances”. Did that happen? Of course not.
      He should be replaced immediately for incompetence and Cindy should cut her holiday short and initiate the action. That won’t happen thought, she is going to Australia for a holiday where she will be “less conspicuous” according to the Cindy gushing MSM. What’s the bet there are photo shoots and TV appearances already booked for her stay in Australia?

    1. Asked the Ukrainian Pres to investigate corruption involving Ukraine with regard to the 2016 election. Pres Trump was well within his rights to do so.
    2. Wanted the Ukrainians to investigate a political rival who was on video bragging about having a Ukrainian prosecutor fired and unless that prosecutor was fired they would not receive aid from the United States. So VP Biden is on record asking for a quid pro quo.

As well as interference in the 2016 Election. “Evidence” given during the Impeachment Investigation showed PDT wanted reassurance that the new regime in the Ukraine was not as corrupt as the previous one.     That’s why the 1st Article is an absolute joke.
    
    The 2nd Article is even worse, you cannot “Obstruct Congress” by seeking your Constitutional right to seek ruling from the Courts about the legitimacy of subpoenas issued by that same Congress. The Dems just didn’t want to wait for the Courts to issue a ruling. Otherwise it would mean that Congress would effectively outrank or overpower the Office of the President. It’s called “the Separation of Powers.

  Note: This footage was from the cameras outside the cell where Epstein was held along with a second inmate (a 4 x time murderer) and was said to have made a first but unsuccessful attempt at suicide. Epstein himself said he didn’t try to kill himself but was assaulted.
  
  This is NOT footage from outside his cell when he did die.
  
  I’m not sure, but I think those cameras (from when he did die) were turned off, so no footage is missing because none was taken.
  
  Whatever one thinks of what happened (and Bill Barr has endorsed the “suicide” verdict), it does LOOK suspicious.

My partner attended a Xmas Function last night at his Bank. I don’t get to go to many of those with him, as he always reckons WAGs aren’t invited. [Although i think its more a case he just doesnt want to take me in case i say or do something that might embarrass him. AS IF!] Anyway, a little tit-bit of info he told me this morning i thort was worth sharing with the group…..he was saying ‘someone in the know’ was telling him that Jacinda, Clarke & bubs, have been invited to spend a week at JK’s place on Maui during their holiday break.

Winston – “It’s my job to know” and how helpful ever is that?
Back around when Ardern initiated the Dew report –
“Winston Peters labels Labour sexual assault claims ‘innuendo’, NZ First MPs back him up”
Winston Peters has wasted no time wading into the Labour Party investigation, calling the allegations “unfounded fiction”, an “orgy of speculation”, and “innuendo”.
He said it was “led by a woman called Paula Bennett making all sorts of vile allegations by way of innuendo without a fact to back it up” …
“If you are a victim of criminal wrongdoing, do not go to the opposition – go to the police,” Shane Jones said

Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters – siding with the Labour Party investigator who denied being told about sexual assault complaints against a former party member – again told media: “I happen to know some facts that you don’t know“ [2]

Peters is claiming he knows how National got the ‘leaked’ documents but not revealing details.
He told reporters what they were saying was wrong – the facts were different.
“Are you saying the cleaner got hold of stuff, I don’t think so … the facts are different to that. The facts are very, very bad for the National party.”
“The information came to them in circumstances where the behaviour was totally illegal and they should have known it. That’s all I can say right now … it’s my job to know.” [3]

Winston so often claims to know something and we later find he didn’t, all we now know is Winston is a version of the little boy who called “Wolf” – and for the same reason: attention.
In the children’s story the little boy is of course eaten by the wolf – an all-consuming attention.
So far Winston has only been bitten a few times.

  I was just thinking this morning – the whole Democrat show reminds me of a group of people getting together and playing a practical joke. Most anyone can see how fake and phony the playacting is – it’s like watching a skit on TV – and you expect someone to crack at any moment and shout “just kidding!” Only there is no punchline and they are deadly serious.   Some enthusiasts turn up the evening before, wrapped in blankets and maccas in hand, to have their go at the queue.

If you think Trump is guilty, to be consistent, you have to think Biden is to. However, if that is the case, then Trump requesting an investigation in to Biden is of national interest, but then it would mean Trump didn’t abuse his power.

You can’t get out of this.

  The prosecutor was fired, and the investigation in to Burisma was dropped.
  
  After the firing, an investigation was done and the prosecutor was found to have committed no wrongdoing.
  
  So what justified Biden’s actions? He personally gained from using the power of the executive that was of no national interest. If that doesn’t warrant at least an investigation, then neither does Trump’s favour.

If the prosecutor is not fired, you’re not getting the money” makes him guilty (not to mention the rest of the evidence against him) by your own logic, which means Trump had legit national interest in requesting the favour.

The Burisma investigation related to matters that occurred before Hunter was even there. And the prosecutor was asked to be removed because he was not investigating Burisma properly. he was accused of slow walking the investigation because he was probably bribed by its owner. Therefore none of this related to Biden so he could not benefit. Trump on the other hand directly benefits if he can obtain dirt on his primary challenger for president.

        Bruceavon, just about everyone in Ukraine appears to be corrupt in one way or another. Note that one of the Prosecutors hired after Shokin’s demise has just been convicted of corruption.
        
        The point being that there is a narrative that the Democrats via the MSM are trying to establish, to protect Biden, and you’re buying into it without investigating. The Europeans were not trying to get rid of him “for years”, the main push to remove him was from the US and that means Biden.
        
        I can’t directly assess the veracity of the document, but Shokin has given sworn testimony to a European court that states that he was fired because he was actively investigating Burisma, not because he wasn’t.
        
        There is at the very least, reasonable suspicion that Hunter Biden’s engagement with Burisma was improper. He was paid way more than is usual ($1M a year, Exxon directors get around 10% of that for contrast), and never attended a single board meeting. A despite protestations, it is clear that his position did worry members of the Obama administration – Ambassador Yovanavich testified that she had no knowledge of Burisma but did admit that for her confirmation hearing in the Senate she was prepped on Burisma but being told to say that all questions about that should be referred to VP Biden – she wasn’t asked BTW. Another State Department official cancelled a proposed joint program with Burisma because of concerns about allegations regarding Burisma and money laundering.
        
        I suggest a proper independent investigation is needed. If there was significant wrong doing by Burisma, for example significant money laundering, then both Biden’s involvement is highly suspect and likely criminal. If not, then the legitimate suspicions can be laid to rest.
        
        As Billy Collins is arguing, if it was good enough to relentlessly investigate Trump for over 2 years on the basis of paid opposition research which proved to be bunkum (yes, complete crap, and by Jan 2017 the FBI knew that), then there is certainly more than adequate suspicion to investigate Biden & Biden in the same way.

        Ian Boag, your son will be able to explain better than I can, that in these two Slavic languages, when the “v”- equivalent letter ends a word, speakers typically pronounce it as close to “f”.
        
        This causes confusion in translation to our language. For example, a famous Russian composer is translated (and pronounced) in English sometimes as Rachmaninov, and sometimes as Rachmaninoff.
        
        Also some Russian vowels do contain this gliding sound, which tends to identify native speakers. New learners of Russian are often encouraged to pronounce them as though they had a “y” in front of them.
        
        Sorry to go on, but the Slavic languages are interesting, and hearty congratulations to your son for learning Russian.

      As it happens, some Europeans have revealed the reason that some of them supported removing Shokin was because the US (aka Biden) had specifically requested them to do so.
      
      The real reason was that Shokin had received notice from Latvia that some significant transactions from Burisma to Hunter Biden and his interests via Latvia to Cyprus appeared, on the surface, to be laundering transactions. Shokin had also just seized assets belonging to the ultimate owner of Burisma, and was seeking an interview with Hunter Biden. At least so Shokin says in a sworn statement before a European court.
      
      Ukraine is pretty corrupt on all sides, and I would hesitate to take at immediate face value any information official or otherwise from there. Earth’s orbit in relationship to the sun is not spherical, hence there will be times when earth is closer to the sun (hot) and times when it will be more distant from the sun (cold). CO2, the essential element of all life forms on earth does not recognise earth’s position in relationship to the sun, hence blaming global warming on CO2 is a non event. Perhaps one of the least fashionable predictions I made nine years ago was that ‘the ecological footprint of human activity is probably shrinking’ and ‘we are getting more sustainable, not less, in the way we use the planet’. That is to say: our population and economy would grow, but we’d learn how to reduce what we take from the planet. And so it has proved. An MIT scientist, Andrew McAfee, recently documented this in a book called More from Less, showing how some nations are beginning to use less stuff: less metal, less water, less land. Not just in proportion to productivity: less stuff overall.

I recommend Ridley’s book The Rational Optimist.

Look at the damage this tenant did to the property….those tenants need to be “black listed” as no one should rent a property to them. Trouble is they will end up being a sob story saying they are homeless and cannot rent a property.

  I hope the landlord takes these feral tenants for every penny, and makes sure the debt and rep follows them for years and years. It is possible that the tenants will say – hey it wasn’t us, it was vandals. That won’t wash.
  
  The problem for the landlord will be that tenant liability is limited for accidental damage so they will have to demonstrate it was deliberate. That might not be too difficult LOL.

  I have to say Oriental Bay looks a picture when the trees are lit and the fountain going, on a calm day. I think Saturday 30th November was the last one. Obviously the residents there have some influence.

        I have seen numerous examples of differences in pronunciation in most languages. Explain to a native of France that Montreal french is the same language…
        
        I have also seen many examples of place names being different depending on the user and a simple example is Wanganui. The river mouth coastal dwellers called it Wanganui, those further up the river called it Whanganui.
        
        Whangarei is another with maori locals using the word both with and without the “H”.

        If a name is not written down, how do you maintain consistency in nomenclature over generations? Naturally, the larger the population who refer to a place by a certain consistent name, the better the chances of that name surviving over time.
        On the other hand, if a small tribe of locals have a name for a mountain (that they have used for generations) and then a bigger tribe sweep down from the north and eliminate them, the local place names will likely all be erased from history.

  For that matter he didn’t ‘discover’ NZ either. He wasn’t even the first European to visit NZ.

      Perhaps you could propose some English names for Maori place names that you would have difficulty managing in day-to-day discourse.
      You would, perhaps, need the imagination of James Cook et al though. Some suggestions:
      Rotorua = Smellville
      Pukekohe = Potatoton
      Ohakune = Carroton
      Mount Maunganui = Beach Hill
      
      We would also need names in proper English for other things. Tui, of course, is already the Parson Bird. But Kiwi, Weka, Takahe and Kokako all need new names.
      
      And we would need to criminalise use of the wrong names, of course. Do you think fines would be sufficient, or should serious offences attract prison terms?

      The solution to NZ place names is for them to be dual. Not so that both names are used together, as in “Aoraki-Mount Cook”, but so that in the Maori language Maori place names are used, and in English, traditional or officially recognised non-Maori place names are used.
      
      What is the point in having two languages and two sets of traditional names if only one set of names is used?
      
      Let has have: in English, pakeha names; and in Maori, Maori names. If Chinese and Indians want to have sets of NZ place names in Putonghua and Hindi, so be it.

    I do sympathise with those families who lost loved ones in that event, especially those who lost young children.
    
    At the same time that does not preclude me from having my own opinions on history and language, neither does it negate the value of written documentation and the danger in believing purely verbal accounts of events .
    When Cook was recording his travels I bet there was not one Maori who was fluent in the English language of 1769 and I also bet that there were no non-Maori fluent in any or all of the Maori dialects.
    Is it therefore not reasonable to question certain accounts?

  ari –> chief
  So we get something like:
  important commanding presence, pay attention, very noticeable, controller etc.
  
  With so few root words they do get put together to give a reasonable meaning in their context.

Following on the Russia collusion hoax the next episode of ‘Dump Trump’ appears to have stalled. The Dems have been all over the sympathetic media with impeachment justification and ‘holier than thou’ sermons but the rubber has hit the road. A presentation of the impeachment articles to the Senate would open a whole new can of worms. The articles would immedately fail because they are unconstitutional and the Dems would be shown up to be purveyors of snake oil. So in sporting terms Pelosi is throwing in the towel rather than have Trump be aquitted and Biden and co be fully exposed for their dirty dealings in Ukraine and elswhere.

It has been a week in the spotlight for the mayor of Christchurch, the city council’s electoral officer, and a modest Chinese restaurant.

As the week began, Christchurch mayor Lianne Dalziel was accused by election rival John Minto of “skirting around the law” over her mayoral campaign expenses.

When Dalziel was fundraising for her mayoral campaign this year, $40,100 came from a dinner and wine auction at the Southern Asia Restaurant in Colombo St organised by her husband, lawyer Rob Davidson.

Davidson had donated the wine, and Dalziel identified him alone as a donor at that event despite some bidders paying high prices for bottles. … read more via hyperlink above …
