    Somebody leaked the information to Boag, according to her statement and she shoveled it on to Walker.
    What else she told Walker we don’t yet know, but we will, unless everyone refuses to speak to the enquiry.

You didn’t think and the longer you stay around, the more of a David Clark you are to the rest of the party, irrespective of your’s or the party support in Clutha-Southland.

As for Boag, also do yourself and the National Party a favour, lock yourself down, throw away any communication devices and stay away from contact with anybody!

      Clark, as Minister of Health, went AWOL during NZ’s greatest health crisis in a century.
      
      Parked up in Dunedin away from all action, moved house, went to the beach, rode his bike and Zoomed into the odd meeting – while others shouldered the load in Wellington and elsewhere.
      
      He showed the country where his priorities lay – and it wasn’t with NZ health workers or the NZ public. He was weighed and measured in a time of crisis and found wanting.

      I suspect most independent voters have forgotten the incident by now, with the very few who have noted it having noted it to confirm their bias.

The situation in some parts of Melbourne has simply reinforced the concept that when you have a lot of people who don’t or can’t comprehend English and who don’t want to social distance / stick to their own housing, and insist on maintaining their own culture with its like of intergenerational close proximity and frequent physical interactions, that you will get rapid spread of a contagious illness.

        For the record, I would say we can tolerate the usual 500 deaths and morbidities of the road toll, for which we don’t crash the economy and our children’s futures every year, and an additional 400-500 deaths from the annual standard flu (2019 figures).
        
        So, a thousand in total. Each of those deaths represents a tragedy; but none of the naysayers against opening the borders want to tell us what their default position is if we don’t open the borders and we get at least an order of magnitude *more* deaths because of depression, suicide, homicide, malnutrition, cancer, misdiagnosis, delayed operations and all the other lethal detritus in the wake of the fishwife’s sway over the ignorant political clump at the Beehive.

        Ian, the facts are clear; closing the borders has done only harm to New Zealand, keeping them closed for much longer will destroy the country.
        
        NZ is a trading nation relying on both import and export (that import/export including tourism).
        
        Statistics from around the world are showing no real increase in over-all death rates and protecting those at risk while allowing commerce to commence is the only sensible route for New Zealand to take.

        Closing the borders has certainly trashed tourism as we knew it would.
        
        Oddly enough a month or two back there was a lot of agitation on KB for borders to stay closed and grumbles that it had been done late. There used to be a lot of grumbles about how excessive tourism was trashing our country too. We move on ….
        
        Obviously we need to open the borders. We could start with Oz of course and then China I suppose. I think those were the two largest contributors. Cruise ships too of course.
        
        I would like to think it would be done carefully as the genie could be a problem when out of the bottle.
        
        There is a good item on Stuff this morning about Prince Edward Island in Canada which is sort of like a micro version of NZ. Heavily dependent on tourism (and cruise ships) with open borders only to the provinces next door. Very low covid levels.

        Some version of the “how many deaths are acceptable?” thing has to figure in the decision someplace. (I can accept that it is more than zero).
        
        Melbourne is showing us how easy it is to overwhelm a contact tracing system, particularly a half-arsed – not widely taken up – one like we have here. There is of course no guarantee that opening the borders will restart a torrent of tourism. It’s getting a bit late for Aussie skiers ….

Silicon Valley has been bending the knee to the Communist Chinese for years now in hopes of breaking past the great internet firewall and into a massive new market.
Last week India banned TikTok and dozens of other Chinese apps, the United States should do the same immediately. TikTok is a national security threat. If you are a parent reading this I encourage you to check your child’s phone for the TikTok app and have it removed’.

Royal Commission submission from NZ Muslim community calls for Crown apology, overhaul of public service.

Is there any explanation anyone has seen that tells us why the Islamic Women’s Council has released their submission before the Commission releases the full report?

Also, if this material has been prepared for the Commission’s Report and funding made for that purpose, are those who have collected and written the material legally entitled to release the material outside conditions of the full report – for example, in a way that their content can not be appraised against what else the Commission has found or covers?

  Very good questions Yvette. The Royal Commission has imposed a total ban on government agencies releasing any information that might bear on its inquiry before the Commission has reported to the government. Although they are not a government agency, the release of the Islamic Women’s Council’s submission at this stage some two weeks before the Royal Commission’s report is due seems highly inappropriate in the overall context of the inquiry.
  
  When the report is released, you can bet your bottom dollar that there will be completely unwarranted calls to restrict New Zealanders’ freedom of speech . We are about to enter a dangerous time which the extreme Left will seek to exploit for maximum advantage. Tarrant reportedly hoped his murderous actions would lead to repression in New Zealand. His wishes ironically may be granted by the government and the Left.

She would not accept that the shooter was dabbling into all sorts of beliefs, especially environment stuff. The most telling thing she said was she was a kiwi second to Islam. Plunket stayed on topic but I bet he wished he could have asked her why she isn’t allowed to pray with the males in the mosque?

Three more years of Labour, signed, sealed and delivered by National. Goodbye dead cat bounce, National are staring into an electoral abyss. Muller’s credibility ebbs away by the hour. The unauthorized release of confidential patient data is not something the public will forgive. It is a huge breach of trust. National are seen as wreckers trying to undermine New Zealand’s defences against COVID 19; National are not members of “the team of 5 million”.

And why was Muller bleating on about the government’s steps to get a grip on managing the flow of returning kiwis yesterday? Most people think limiting flights to match quarantine capacity is just common sense. As for reopening the borders, no one wants this before the election, not even the heavyweights in the tourism industry. So three more years of total incompetence and the loss of basic freedoms like free speech. But National never cared much for those anyway. Thanks Michelle, Hamish and Todd.

    If those at risk choose to avoid prevention then that is their choice.

        Not what I said at all.
        
        Those at risk need to be supported to protect themselves if they wish to do so. Those that elect not to do so should be allowed to exercise their free choice.
        
        So far community spread has been minuscule within NZ. Now those that test positive, as I am not advocating zero testing, should also be induced to self isolate and if their friends and families elect to associate with them then so be it.
        
        This virus is here to stay and if recent reports are correct has been with us for over a year now so unless you want to live in a bankrupt country with little hope for the next two generations I suggest you either accept some risk or go home and stay home.

        Optional self-isolation with friends and families free to choose association is a bit of a Clayton’s isolation. Ditto for those “at risk choosing to avoid prevention” and wandering freely around.
        
        I get that you think testing is a good thing but I don’t quite get what you think should happen to someone who tests positive …. Would your views change if we had community transmission?
        
        It goes without saying that the present situation is not long-term tenable. Realistically looking round the world, relaxation could take us to a couple of thousand deaths a year I suppose. Someone needs to be honest about that.
        
        So we do a Sweden? The “herd immunity from a wild infection” thing does not seem to be working yet. Might never.

        Covid is here forever and I certainly do not want to be isolated from the world so I don’t get the flu.

  Hamish’s small flip is tiny by comparison. NZ was not told we now had virtually open borders. We were not told our travel industry was to be damaged long term by wrecking our major tourist spots as desirable destinations. The farce also, of filling motels with the unfortunates and friends. People prefer to visit among those of a similar social order. Equality can never be impressed upon any society–attempts at gunpoint have been tried and failed too.

Labour had nothing to lose plenty to gain especially if it give them the opportunity to Govern alone ,to win big you have take opportunities that come your way and I believe National have been outsmarted.

Let’s not forget Walker seems to have been motivated by the reaction of locals in a remote corner of NZ to Wuhan flu isolation facilities for arrivals from overseas.

High immigration and selling citizenship with education enrolments, largely instigated by National, have given NZ the fastest growing population in the developed world, and I don’t think Statistics NZ counts overseas citizens.

New Zealanders are flowing home from Australia as its economy contracts, adding to scores of thousands of dual citizens exercising their right to use NZ as a bolt-hole from, first, the pandemic, and, second, from the economic crises that will inevitably follow.

The flood of people across the border is such that we’ve restricted inbound flights.

Pressure on health, transport, education and other infrastructure will soar. So will the cost of supporting unemployed.

Selling education courses by giving access to citizenship, and an open door for rich communists under the delusion that they would begin a swathe of new export industries, gave rise to an until-now thriving immigration industry in New Zealand. It will fight to re-open the borders.

Why is no-one talking about population growth? Why is discussion being closing down by implying it’s racist to question the policy?

Is the heavy penalty likely to be imposed on Hamish Walker influenced by this apathetic national mood? How dare an electorate M.P. touch on the Policy that Must Not be Questioned.

Every time anyone raises questions about our excessive, low skilled immigration and the export education scam they are shouted down as “racist”.   For myself I think that Hamish Walker is trying to do the right thing? He is concerned about immigration, he is concerned about population growth and he is concerned about racial minorities with diseases being dumped in parts of the South Island. I think those are all legitimate concerns.
  
  The other thing I would say is do not give into the baying leftist mob. If you are the leader of the National party you have to know that the far left hates you and will seek to destroy you. You can’t compromise with haters. You can’t appease haters.
  
  So you either have to get on your big boy pants and deal firmly with them and not apologise or you have to come to grips with the fact that you are their lackey and they will roll over you anytime they want.
  
  Standing up to the mob takes courage. It is something that has been missing from a lot of leaders of the National party over the past decades.

  If you look at Customs arrival and departure stats, you will see that there has been a pretty consistent nett loss of people since March. Since 1 July, for example, there have been roughly 3000 arrivals and 4000 departures. So a lot of this stuff about resources being swamped is a bit illusory.

      I was watching Seven Sharp the other night and they were banging on about the “brain gain” based on the number of people coming in, and there are also comments on here about how we are being inundated with returnees, when the reality is different. The choke point is the quarantine programme, but even without the new restrictions it seems pretty clear that more are going than coming. Other than that, there is a dearth of information about who these people are, so it is very hard to draw inferences about, for instance, whether they will be tenants or purchasers, unemployed or remote workers, indeed, white or brown. So any debate around the borders is necessarily short on evidence, which I guess leads to a vacuum to be filled by gossip and prejudice (or, perhaps, leaked spreadsheets).

The interesting thing will be if the review is called off. If it is, we’ll know what really happened (that Boag was set up).

National have a big chance here. They can lance Boag which is a huge plus for the party and they can do it decisively. They shouldn’t be calling for resignations. It should be public and it should be coming from the top.

Rogue MPs and bad choices happen. What matters is that Muller and co are seen to be decisive.

    She was in a position that was close enough to the health sector that most people won’t consider the fact that she shouldn’t have been given the info in the first place. She didn’t have it legitimately so the real leaker is still to be found.
    
    An unsecured spreadsheet was sent to her private e-mail. Her role is a smokescreen.
    
    If Labour decide not to hunt down the leaker, then they are clearly playing politics and it’s reasonable to question whether someone from Labour gave Boag the loaded gun.
    
    It’s speculation of course but the leaker is still out there at the moment.

  “Ultimately that is a matter for her and it is a matter for the board if she does not choose to step away.

Did Boag send her information to Walker because it somehow backed his earlier comments?
Like were the names, although unpublished, all Indian, Pakistani or Korean?
And so was Boag’s leak to Walker totally separate otherwise to his earlier remarks about specific high risk covid-19 countries New Zealand residents may be returning from and a statement which was reasonable in itself perhaps, until Woods used the call-it-racist option.

However from other information Woods and officials have since given on citizens returning to New Zealand it appears the present number in isolation at any one time is approximately 6,000 and could reach 7,500 which makes Walker’s statement that an extra 11,000 places could be sought from Dunedin, Invercargill and Queenstown to be wrong.
Which means that Walker, between Boag and his other informant, has not done very well.

So to clean things up slightly it would be nice if a journalist could ask Woods – without her turning it into a racist rant – whether the number of 11,000 is reasonable or rubbish, since it is roughly twice the present isolation places in use.

    I’ve just gone on the Nat’s website seeking to learn what their current policies might be (with the election on the horizon and closing) and can only find ‘Policy Information’ for 204 and 2017.
    
    NOTHING about what they have to offer me (and the rest of NZ) for this year.
    
    With no policies etc. why should I vote for them?
    
    In any ‘industry’, the ‘BEST’ of the bunch are totally useless without anything to actually promote.

Walker showed by his huge mistake of leaking why he should never be a MP.

But worse, Walker showed his rank stupidity and naivety by sending the document to three lefty media organs firmly in the pockets of Labour (to the tune of $50 million and more to come) thinking they would publish ? Of course they would use the moral high ground excuse to not publish. But it sure would not have stopped them from passing on information about the leak to their political masters.

Regardless of what Walker did, Michelle Boag’s reputation as a “political operative” and name is forever mud. As it should be.

“Boaged” will enter the urban dictionary. Can “Hootoned” be far behind ?

I have been a regular listener to Radio Magic. talkback, but tell you what – I’m over it.
Sean Plunkett has taken to hysterically shouting over callers with deviate in the slightest way. He is aggressive and bullying.
And just now the 9 am ‘host’Peter Williams has done the same thing – over shouted a perfectly logical young woman who was making a considered comment, and then summarily cut her off mid sentence
And Ryan Bridges is sailing perilously close to the edge with some of his smart-arse comments.
Something has gone wrong with Radio Magic. I used to enjoy both Williams and Plunkett, one for reasoned and courteous discussion, and the other for the sense of fun he often brought to his afternoon session.

  Seldom listen in the mornings but have found Peter to be coming more strident as time goes on. It may be a symptom of listening to an overload of numpties day to day but it is his right I suppose and ours to stop tuning in.

Isn’t it time we got an answer to what it would take to re-open the border?
A few details, the answers to a few question, a bit of what procedures will be in place in the future.
How long can the world continue to give people money so that they can remain locked up?
There appears to be very little information released that explains how the risks can be minimised, what new research has found, a list of ways by which businesses can exist with covid-19.
This is particularly important for clubs, bars, cafes, restaurants, churchs, theatres and movies.
Isolation, sanitise, masks, PPE equipment have been stressed but what else have we learned from six months of covid-19.

  I remember when – I can tell you what it will take to reopen the border. It will take an election. Only when the election is over will the Prime Minister seriously consider reopening the border.
  
  At the moment we are heading up to an election where labour is well ahead in the polls and our leader is campaigning as the person who saved us from coronavirus. So the last thing she wants is for people coming into New Zealand with the chance of the virus coming back into the New Zealand community.
  
  If that happened we would have to say was all this sacrifice worth it? We can’t have that if labour is to be re-elected. So we must wait till after the election. Once Jacinda is safely back in office for another term then and only then will she seriously consider reopening the border.

This week I was one of the COVID doctors in the hospital. Before I went on service, I had planned to share my experiences when I got home after my last shift. That didn’t happen because I was mentally and emotionally exhausted after being at the hospital for 15+ hours.

I am going to try to break things down so that the general public can understand, because I want everyone, not just my fellow healthcare workers, to be as scared as I am.

This is going to be long, but hopefully will be worth the read for someone.

The neighbor popped over earlier for a coffee.
Really really nice girl. Expat South African. Solo mum with a boy at Kings. Her hubby was an airline pilot. Ended up he ran off with a Nigerian baggage handler. Bent as a Polish Sausage apparently. She had no idea of course.
Roox was saying she watched a movie yesterday afternoon on Maori Television – ’12 Years a Slave’.
Couldn’t believe how violent it was! She doubts it would get past the censors these days. Certainly wouldn’t do much to ease any racial tension between South Auckland and Remuera she reckoned..
My partners going to see if he can get it out for the weekend.

I was wondering if convictions should be public record.

I understand that to get a police check you need the person’s signature/permission but I wonder why. Surely we have a right to know if someone is a convicted criminal.

It would certainly clear up a few things and confirm or deny some persistent rumours 😉

I’m not sure if this is accurate or not – however a good friend of mine employs a number of staff ex India etc. he was saying that each year a few of them head back to India for Ramadan and also this is the time of the year for arranged marriages in India.

He is now happy again as these staff are flowing back into NZ as they return from Ramadan.

If this is true it certainly explains the big rush of Covid cases ex India. He also mentioned that some of his staff (ex India) mentioned they were able to get repatriation flights out of India on the nz taxpayer dime.

I hope this isn’t true – but it would be sickening that nz taxpayers were paying for people to travel back from India after Ramadan on planes infested with Covid.

Maybe this is some of the info that was passed to Boag…….. some would say it is raciest to even mention this in today’s PC OTT world.

  If you know they’re lying that’s good isn’t it? You can discount it straight away. Then again if you know it’s a lie because you’ve seen the truth somewhere else, how do you the elsewhere is the truth, it could be a lie.

I sincerely hope that the government is already preparing so that when New Zealand starts to open the borders the country will have all the supplies at hand required to minimize the casualties. Good quality protective equipment in sufficient quantities and other gear such as respirators required to save lives. The ability to test and contract trace quickly would also be essential. Will we be up to it? Hope so. There has been plenty of time so no excuses.

A lone protester turns up to greet Todd Muller, because he has had covid-19 and knows what a sigma is attached to getting it. So he gets to say a few words.
Miserable day, by the look of it, so he has probably compromised his immune system to do it.
However, the item managed to fairly place the blame where it belongs.
