    Never ever heard that, Greg. I know that a suite is usually booked for the Minister, because the lounge can be used as an impromptu bilateral meeting room.
    
    The real cost of the trip is the 3-6 officials who come too (ahem), 1 from the office, 2 from the relevant agency, and 1-2 from the MFAT office responsible for the region. It all comes out of different budgets so is very hard to tot up.

      Sometimes a suite if that meeting space is needed during an event. But usually you don’t need a suite as you’ll go and meet with officials in their offices or event spaces.
      
      Lots of the larger conferences etc have spaces set aside for meetings to be held in various rooms.

      Dude you clearly don’t understand what has been happing in China then.
      
      As you might be aware, China is:
      1) Big. Bloody huge in fact.
      2) Controlled with an iron fist. Bugger all rights.
      
      Together, these mean that China has a lot of ability to control what happens where and keep areas isolated from each other.
      
      Wuhan is more or less in the centre of China. Much of the manufacturing/electronics sections we often deal with are typically to the South Guanggzhou etc.
      
      While Wuhan/Hubei were in lockdown, Guangzhou (800km to the south) continued to operate. My customers were having electronics boards made right through the the whole period with only about a week or so of shutdown – hardly any more than the normal Chinese New Year.
      
      So China kept operating. It makes sense to keep flying there.

Creating shortages in dangerous jobs which will lead to increase in wages in these jobs and also force women out of employment of the nice safe inside jobs.

Women and men have different priorities in employment hence wage differences.

National went along with this. Good news is the clowns in Wellington will never be able to implement this stupidity.

    It’s been illegal in New Zealand to do that for nearly 50 years! The Equal Pay Act 1972 requires employers to ensure that staff “are paid equally based on the value of their work and skill without any regard to the gender of the employee.”

        It’s something like this: male dominated jobs (eg construction workers) might have a higher pay rate than equally skilled but female dominated jobs (perhaps cleaners – I don’t know exactly which professions and how they will be assessed). And that’s ‘unfair’ cos the Col doesn’t care about the market and how many people actually want and can do the jobs, only about what they deem ‘fair’.
        
        So by force cleaners might have to be paid same rate as construction workers.
        
        Result: huge shortage of construction workers. And ironically not enough cleaners as companies have to cut back on cleaners they can’t afford. Because the market, ie customers, won’t pay that higher rate willingly.
        
        That’s what you get when govt tries to control markets a la communism.
        
        The real way to get more equity would of course be to encourage more women to get into male dominated professions, as has happened already in many fields.
        
        But no, sulky socialists want to make everything ‘fair’, not just let markets decide and women and men choose what career and pay they want to train up for!

    same here, infact the few females ive employed in the past were higher paid as they done tasks my male staff didnt want to do or done with little enthusiasm.
    
    I think the problem is not gender pay gap its that the sectors complaining most are almost 100% female staff and its percieved as exploitation, do a menial job expect menial pay and if thats not the case then turn down the job.

Healey says the electrical event the Commission missed was a fuse blowing deep in the mine. That wasn’t investigated and could have been the ignition source for the original explosion.

Healey’s own remark, “that wasn’t investigated”, emphasises a fuse is a safety device that breaks an electric circuit if the current exceeds a safe level and whatever overloaded the circuit is the actual fault in the system, or of course something beyond that? And in the circumstances, nothing was investigated. Nor, unless the mine itself is entered, never will be, and apparently Labour has no plans for that.
Further, for example, was the now missing electric cabinet cover (said to be from the main fan unit) involved in one or more explosions, as there were at least four, so the scorching or any evidence of impart on the internal surface or the exterior is likely irrelevant.

And as much as the probable earlier occurrence of the rockfall indicates those trapped had no less chance of exit, the same suggests any rescue team entering the mine had no chance of reaching them.

One thing that maybe is not well known is that 5 days after the initial explosion, the Mines Rescue Trust had decided it was safe to re-enter the mine. That Wednesday, I was receiving regular briefings on the planned re-entry, so when the phone rang I thought it was to inform me they had gone in. Instead, I learnt that a massive explosion had occurred. Had those rescuers been in the mine, they too would have perished. Let me say to those families directly affected by the disaster that I sincerely wish you could have been provided with the closure you deserve, but I can honestly say I never, in my time as Prime Minister, saw a credible and safe plan to achieve that. – John Key, Valedictory Speech

This latest information would suggest that had this rescue team gone in, they too would have perished, as well as not having a hope of reaching anyone already in the mine.

Sure, no doubt the public exposure can be hard on MPs and their families.

But when it comes to affairs etc the gravity in the Beehive is exactly the same as anywhere else. Your dick won’t fall out of your pants on its own.

I think maybe he’s being a bit precious. Is it really harder for MPs? Sure they often have to travel far from families but they at least get private accommodation. I’d think it is much harder for truckies, travelling salesmen and the like who end up sleeping in hotels & motels and are far more likely to get tempting offers from random people.

I’ve had to do a bit of traveling for conferences etc. Had a few offers, but kept firmly zipped.

Perhaps it is just in the nature of many MPs to think they’re big cheese and can do what the hell they like.

In 2017 he told us that capitalism was dead and he had joined the other mob. Now he’s back again but a bit encumbered by the SFO, the legal swamp he has created and a bumbling brain. Being an MP is, generally, a high pressure job. He’s merely offering sympathies and no doubt in response to a question. IMHO the greatest threat to Western civilisation i not Covid-19 but the Chinese Communist Party ( I distinguish it from the peoples of China) and Putins Russia.
In the case of the CCP they want to retake the
wayward province Taiwan and also exert even more influence power and control over Western countries and Putin is going along for the ride and whatever he and his Party can pick up.

Australia is spending A$200 Billion over the next 10 years on self defence. They realise they can no longer rely on the US as their protector and neither can NZ.

Our politicians are both craven and easily bought off. We can not rely on any of them to protect the citizens.
Only a total change of our Parliament with people who have loyalty to the citizens rather then Beijing can change the current situation.

Both last week and this week she has written opinion pieces that have attacked Collins as the new leader, and the composition of the National party. In both articles, at no point did she consider the validity of her opinions or what she was writing. She was attacking the National Party, so it was job done, end of story.

Jacinda is very popular and it might work. We need to relentlessly remind people thatt they haven’t delivered anything they planned to deliver and they have no plans for the next three years. This is easily the most useless bunch of clowns we’ve ever had in power.

  I have noticed that the Fairy Princess is not fronting on the TV News as much recently and even if she does present there are shots from afar and very little commentary from her. This would seem to me to be a deliberate policy by Labour in order to prevent her from being shown up as the failure that she and the Government that she leads are. As you say Labour are trying to get through to the election on Jacinda’s stardust. Judith must really have them worried as she is definitely doing a lot more interviews and from that a lot more publicity at present.

For the next 15 years our economy depended on sheep, which with beef and dairy, were about 60% of our export revenue.

    All this was a result of a general re-evaluation of the properties throughout the city. My property was valued at the same as the overinflated price the people next door had paid for their place.

Sport participation can be difficult for Muslim women in NZ because of their hijabs and other customs.

How far do you go to accommodate the females of a religion that comprises 1.3 per cent of the country’s population?

A Waikato University study recommends that sport and active recreation organisations should provide optional “modest” uniforms for Muslim females.

The study says sports and recreational bodies should “revisit” policies that may limit participation by Muslim females.

The report also recommends:

– Women-only spaces in facilities, with Muslim women should be consulted in the design phase.

– Muslim women be “supported to fill leadership positions,” such as being coaches and being on sports boards.

– There be media articles “featuring Muslim women as athletes, coaches, community organisers”, and that Muslim women be invited to be guest writers on sports columns.

Next, Waikato academics can advise Islamic countries such as Pakistan, Iran, Turkey, and Afghanistan on how to run sport for their non-Muslim minorities. These have been brutally reduced to even smaller proportions of the populations than Muslims in New Zealand.

  To me it is an opinion piece that attempts to answer the question “how would you increase the participation of Muslim women in New Zealand”
  It assumes as a starting point:
  1. Current participation rates are below the population norm
  2. There is a problem to be solved
  3. Muslim women want to play NZ sports

Just saw evidence that New Zealanders are basically stupid.
Z and Mobil stations opposite each other. Z is 15 cents more expensive per litre than Mobil for both 91 and diesel. Z full of cars filling up, Mobil only has a couple.
I assume we’ll be just as stupid on polling day.

  Its the same here we have 3 self serves in town and they are constantly 20-30c cheaper for 91 and 10c for diesel yet at bp and z yet ppl cue up to pay stupid/lazy tax, its far quicker to go self serve and the other servos dont have forecourt service. people are stupid and happy to throw 5-10bux away for no benefit.

I ment to say earlier that i watched QT again yesterday.
Had been hoping to catch sight of what Sarah Dowie had on. Unfortunately, once again she was either absent from the House, or the cameras never panned her way.
The one that did catch my eye, was Labor member Willow-Jean Prime during Q5. Now whilst I wouldn’t want to be seen dead in the green frock she was wearing, must say how trim Willow-Jean was actually looking. The girl appears to have lost a ton of weight.

Trevor Mallard and Tau Henare came to blows at Parliament yesterday after the National MP accused the minister of being a hypocrite.

It is believed Mr Mallard struck Mr Henare during a heated argument in a lobby outside the parliamentary debating chamber and the pair had to be prised apart.

Prime Minister Helen Clark said the two men “should look in the mirror” over their behaviour.

Competition as to who will build it. Huawei is in bed with the CCP, so
Many countries are reluctant to let it build their 5G networks.
They don’t want their communication structure compromised.
Equipment from Huawei, and ZTE can’t be used as they must hand over
Info to the CCP on demand. Experts have developed a ‘clean networks’ code.
Suppliers from democratic countries with an independent judiciary are
preferred. The code is not explicitly aimed at the PRC. The UK government have
denied Huawei any involvement in its 5G network. Several other countries have followed suit.
India has banned Huawei, and will likely move closer to the USA. France won’t ban Huawei.
If Germany bans Huawei, the rest of Europe will likely follow suit. Their telecom company is partly
state owned though. China is a major export market for Germany.

The new flu should have been handled by isolating the sick, and protecting the elderly and the vulnerable. In the UK, the well people were isolated, and the sick were placed with the elderly and the vulnerable, killing them and spreading the sickness. Why? To inflate the numbers?
