Two weeks out from a Election and the election flyer that put in everyone’s letter Box by Labour whether you want it or not stating Let’s keep moving and a five point plan with no real detail with the main focus on Covid-19 and how they went hard and fast is the plan. I would bet my bottom dollar that Jacinda will open our borders as soon as she believes she has the numbers to govern and is playing the waiting game to con those that believe it is all about keeping our Country safe.

    I think the fear factor came initially from the Media Party and then the Pollies for their own reasons followed.
    
    But what is very clear is that nearly all the Pollies fear the Media more than anything else , as a negative reaction from the manipulating 4 th estate is a virtual Kiss of Death. As it happens Ardern’s agenda currently matches that of the Media Party . But it wouldn’t take much for the Media Curs to turn on her . Like Pollies they too only care for their own interests.

  The shallow as a puddle mentality of citizens and their inability to separate personality from policies is best illustrated by contrasting Trump and Ardern.
  
  Trumps policies up to Covid had seen record low unemployment and homelessness especially among Afro-Americans. Yet is he hated and reviled.
  
  Arderns policies has seen homelessness and child proverty increase significantly. Yet is accorded sainthood treatment.
  
  I am a Right Wing Conservative and have been since my student days. I have always tried to vote for the party whose policies I believe will increase the living standards of the poor.
  
  First for their benefit as no one deserves to live in poverty in a country like NZ.
  
  Second because the fewer on welfare the less my tax burden.
  
  Third the less chance of crime against myself and my family.

The Greens’ wealth tax is property confiscation. Many on fixed incomes would be unable to stay in their homes and farmers would be forced off their land. The Greens today are not the cuddly eccentrics of Rod Donald’s or Jeanette Fitzsimmons’ days (if they ever were, that is). They are Stalinists. If I were the parent of a young adult who announced their intention to vote for the Greens I would turn them out onto the street to give them a taste of the future they wanted for New Zealand.

  A better approach might be to assess their income (part time job etc), then charge them 60% of this in board, and make them take this money (in cash) every week and give it to the never-employed slob who lives next door. Wait a couple of months and then have a chat about the value of effort and enterprise.

  I have been explaining just that to my 20 yr old son who will be voting for the first time. I asked him does he want to pay a big chunk of his inheritance when our property is sold when his parents pass on?….does he want to pay more taxes for dole bludgers?……does he want to pay double car insurance if dope is made legal?…..he said no to all three. He’s now wanting to vote David and Act.

    Suggest its better to teach kids work ethics so that they contribute positively to both their own well being and to society, as opposed to encouraging them to bludger off their parent’s inheritance. I would also teach humility about the good fortune of being born into a well off family, and that most kids don’t have parents with this kind of wealth.

Palmy North candidates have held a meeting with some local tenants.

Palmerston North renter Kat Steeneken has rated four political party candidates a fail over their lack of solutions for dealing with the “immoral” treatment of tenants.

Reading about her situation in the article, frankly she looks like a difficult tenant seriously unhappy with her property manager and now facing a big rent rise. Referring to property managers as immoral and not having a code of ethics, perhaps a thinly veiled sledge at her own property manager, is not conducive to a constructive relationship.

She continued – “Property managers are in an exceptional position of power, yet they’re not required to do a single thing to do that job.”

In fact there is a massive volume of law specifically regulating tenancies with huge fines for breaches.

There was a small nod in the article to supply issues, and let’s face it many recently introduced laws and regs might have something to do with lack of supply and rent increases.

With Labour returning to previous Election promises, because they have not fulfilled them – like Kiwibuild – are they going to return to false targets and lies of other policies?

For example – “We aim to plant one billion trees by 2028 – 150 million are already in the ground” – Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, opening address to United Nations Climate Action Summit, September 24, 2019

While the MPI website One Billion Trees Progress Chart, as at April 14, 2020
Government has directly funded 24,681,000 trees.

After the two years covered by the chart, the target should have been 200 million trees, not 24.7 million.
The actual crux question on such delivery or performance, is “Has the Winston-chosen Labour planted enough trees to sequester enough carbon to make any fucking difference at all?”

  Commenting late on yesterday’s thread, I see that predicting Trump’s recovery based on statistical reality, and the proven effectiveness of Hydroxychloroquine used properly, earns a few downticks.
  
  I will keep saying this: nice centre right people need to wake up to evil in the world. Yes, medical researchers will rig studies to the noble ends of “progressive” causes.
  
  Didier Roualt is a distinguished expert whose expertise led him to think it was worth a trial of this cheap, out-of-patent, safe drug. His results were impressive, and these results have been replicated all over the world by honest doctors following his protocol.
  
  The so-called studies debunking it, are in some cases fabricated data from whole cloth. In at least one case where the researchers are now subject to criminal prosecution, known toxic doses were administered; twelve times as much as Roault’s dose.
  
  All the other studies involve one of the following: administering the drug only when patients were nearly dead anyway, when Roualt said all along that it must be started early. Not addressing zinc deficiency, which was an integral part of Roualt’s protocol. Not giving an antibiotic.
  
  In some cases, using a trial cohort of healthy people who were all going to recover anyway, so “no-one died in either group, therefore the drug made no difference”.
  
  Nice centre right people who are too lazy to do their own due diligence on the progressive left machine, are part of the problem.

        I can read the studies. I can read Roualt’s recommendations for time of treatment, and doses, and what of. I can see when “studies” have done something different. As DPF says in a more recent posting, one can understand some things without being an “expert” as long as one can read and comprehend the arguments between experts. The fact that politicians or journalists or bureaucrats choose one particular argument against another, is not necessarily because politicians, journalists and bureaucrats are good at reading and comprehending.
        
        It is not trivial that “Big Pharma” wants to make a killing on a new, patentable cure. It is a sickening irony when so-called “social concern” activists are the biggest useful idiots for bad capitalists. It happens again and again.

  If Trump does win it will be the most amazing victory against all the odds. Since his election in 2016 he’s had the democrats against him, the media, the never Trumpers, and the deep state. Despite all that the economy boomed under his leadership and unemployment was the lowest in decades.
  Now the virus killed at least for a time the economic boom. There is constant rioting in the streets and his opponent Joe Biden is being protected by a media that is biased to the point of lunacy.
  
  Still he may win. What else could happen before Nov 3rd? Joe Biden could collapse. Nothing would surprise me in this crazy year.

    MCos – I think at the time there were huge concerns that Hillary Clinton was not medically fit to assume the office of President of the United States. The fact is that she did fall down on the way to her car. The fact is that Secret Service agents quickly bundled her into the car and whisked her away. The whole episode was only disclosed because some bystander recorded it.
    
    The media seemed to show little interest at the time? So it was a legitimate target for Trump to bring up. Are we saying now that it was pneumonia? I can’t remember that there was a definitive diagnosis at the time.

      Was it Trump running New York, who played chicken with the virus until too late; who dumped thousands of infected people on rest care homes; and where 45% of the entire USA’s death toll occurred? In the entire rest of the USA, Covid-19 has barely resulted in noticeable “excess mortality”, it is quite right of people like the Governor of South Dakota to refuse to lockdown. Would New York lock down if South Dakota had a pandemic based on the rural nature of its economy? Why should a rural based economy shut down because of a pandemic in which there is an iron correlation with NYC-level urban crowding? I say the same about NZ too.

    How about we have government do this. Devote 3 years to stopping the waste and getting all the settings right. And then take 3 years off. Unless there is some kind of disaster just STOP. I see that the Herald ‘journos’ are using their best scare tactics in the wake of Trump’s acquisition of Covid. Last night one headline predicted that the Dow Index would be sharply down this morning – it is in fact currently down just fifteen points and comfortably trading over 27,000 points. The second click bait this morning has proclaimed the ‘doomsday nuclear planes have taken tonight to the skies in the US’ and the feature photo is of a B-52 nuclear bomber.
On reading the column an extra couple of unarmed early warning/command post aircraft have been put into the air over the US coastline with their transponders on to show that the US defences remain on the alert in spite of the President being off duty.

    That is an important observation. The way urban growth is “allowed” in much of the USA, especially the southern states, has demonstrated that systemic housing affordability and the world’s fastest urban growth can occur together. In fact the affordability is one of the things incentivizing the growth. I tried to tell the John Key government at least a decade ago, that NZ could position itself for real growth including in house-building, as opposed to a bubble based on inflation of urban land prices, by doing proper reforms of the RMA etc. There would be no harm at all from real growth being even greater because of people fleeing Australia’s high house prices, and the harms and distortions from an urban land price bubble could be averted.

I see India is the latest nation to do a random testing program for Covid-19 antibodies to see how many people have been asymptomatically infected. The result is “ten times as many as known infections”.

What is the game with NZ? Are we just a make-believe first world nation, that actually doesn’t have the capability for utilising modern medical science? Or would the facts be inconvenient for someone’s agenda? Saint Ashley actually said at one point, “we don’t believe asymptomatic infection is a thing in NZ”. Well if that is the case, we need to get real first world medical researchers down here to study why we are so unique. But it would be nice to know in the first place by actually doing the antibodies random trials.

Unfortunately there is such a thing as leaving this too late, as antibodies do fade out over time. This does not mean, however, that immunity has been lost. Contra the lies of the alarmists.

  It is worth adding, as the linked essay points out, that even the antibodies testing does not give the whole picture for infections, as around twice as many people as those who develop antibodies, defeat the virus with T cells. So if antibodies testing shows “ten times as many” as known infections, the true level is more like thirty times.

  The biggest difference between CV19 and anything that has come before is all the extra data we have. Until we’ve been through a few pandemics with all this extra data, we really don’t know what the data means and how to interpret it.
  
  It’s a bit like all the new climate change data coming off satellites – especially the GNSSRO satellites that are being launched this year and – effectively – do a CAT scan of the atmosphere providing more accurate weather/climate data than has every been achieved before. All this extra data does not tell us much until we have something to benchmark against.
  
  In the past there was no testing. The only way to say someone was infected was to see symptoms. Asymptomatic cases were not counted.
  
  Now we have a completely different situation. 170 positive cases were found at a UK meat processing plant – every single one asymptomatic.
  
  We’re no longer comparing apples to apples. No wonder the numbers and the fear are massively inflated.

    Exactly! But what baffles me is why people think of this “much higher infections than we knew” as bad and terrifying news rather than good news! It means Covid-19 is comparable to the common cold, which might be scary too if we suddenly got a whole lot of data on it, tracking the cases, counting every old person with one foot in the grave already, who had a cold when they died. Covid-19 is obviously nothing like the 1918 virus.

  Ramdom sampling of a population is a required practice for statistical inference. Now it is seen as interference with the political messaging. We had charts presented day after day showing how the numbers were climbing along with the pipes, drums and laments designed to frighten all.
  
  Those presentations were phoney–a good demonstration of lying with data. They didn’t have the grade of statistics. Any amateur spinmeister should know that if you present a series of daily numbers in an additive form they march excitingly upwards. Their only meaning is that the numbers were added to the previous daily total. Great for fear but useless as information.
  
  NZ was brazenly hoodwinked by the MoH, the Govt and the media. Ardern went hard, fast and loose against the people to scare them into her controlled pen. That was not govt but an attempted coup against the people.

    I repeat something I pointed out again and again in March and April. Those impressive “daily increases in infections” almost all related to a concentrated batch of infections that occurred via “superspreading” in a few places over a few days weeks before, and the gradual, “daily” increase was entirely a matter of the authorities finally catching up with those infected people. If you did a graph of “date of infection” instead of “date infection confirmed”, it would have shown a massive spike that then collapsed as soon as people started acting responsibly. Before lockdown even started.

Although many in the media seem to hold on to the view that Cindy is an oracle, does the crown seem to be slipping?
The covid reports allowed her a platform that best suited her skill set. No opposition and the ability to spread news of COL achievements and how we were being kept safe.
Now she has been bested in consecutive debates and been shown to have no actual implementation ideas for some policies.
It has been good to see some hard questioning of all parties in interviews too.

  I always admired Jim Croce and loved his songs. Sadly he was one of the many great artists who were ‘Gone too soon’ to quote Neil Diamond.

Using the same calcs as the twit who calculated those 80,000 deaths, wouldn’t the USA suffered 5,280,000 deaths but due to Trump’s amazing skill the deaths have only just scraped to 200,000. Surely the left should be praising Trump.

It occurred to me that one of the unexpected benefits of Auckland’s current water restrictions, is the ability to to identify ‘outsiders’ from the state of their motor vehicles.

  Just got off the phone from the Electoral Commission asking why my Voting Package hasn’t arrived (Ezi-vote card, Party Lists etc). Apparently, because of Covid-19 these are delayed and may not be delivered until 9 October.

So much on the edge (boundary is middle of Dominion Rd) that she and boyfriend were directed to the special vote desks as the orange local electorate boxes only listed Epsom and Mt Roskill. I remember when

The latest ‘Central Leader’ has an opinion piece by Tony Holman on their drought and the resulting fire dangers. He draws attention to a NIWA map which shows widespread rainfall deficit across much of the country (climate change is inferred). Mentions of Australia and United States fires.
NIWA map for 3/8/20 to 2/10/20 however show most of the country had normal rainfall for this period. Although the 2/9/20 to 2/10/20 map shows the top third of the NI as again in deficit.
The article has points made under ‘future-proofing ourselves’ which starts with the following:-
‘A fire ban throughout the country with all Councils and the Police to enforce it.’
While this is obviously what needs to be done once conditions are dry enough it appears to miss the major argument.
In both Australian and US fires mention was made of the need to allow small controllable fires to prevent the build-up of combustible material.

Well my 92 yo dad who moved from the Ohariu electorate to the Mana electorate in August has received two different official notifications from the Electoral Commission telling him he’s registered for both. How does that happen? How many other people who recently moved house to a different electorate have received the same thing? Fortunately he’s going to vote blue candidate, ACT party, no to drugs and no to the other one.
