      Isn’t it the other way round? According to the Labour Party’s own website “Many of the Trades Councils, … sponsored the first NZ Labour Party in 1910”. https://www.labour.org.nz/history
      
      That someone could belong to the National or Act Party and also the TaxPayers’ Union seems no more surprising than belonging to Unite and Labour. Or for that matter, being a Friend of the Zoo and an RSPCA sponsor.

    1. Know what they are doing
    2. Have well fleshed out policies that work
    3. A work ethic that will produce results
    4. Will not oppose for the sake of it.
    5. Will not use the speaker to protect ministers from mistakes
    6. will not circumvent due process, by going past heads of depts
    7. will not have secret agendas re roading in wellington.
    8. No assault, sexual or otherwise of staff
    9. Will not abdicate decision making to 120 working groups or singular focused health “experts”.

There was some excuse for exercising “the precautionary principle” months ago. But by the third week of March it was known that Covid-19 was asymptomatic or mild in 90% of infected people and that alone should have made honest, wise politicians back off the tyranny and the economic WMD stuff.

But going by what we know NOW, in October??? If you don’t get it that the alarmist machine is not merely corrupt or incompetent, but evil and based on deliberate lies, just as bad as any totalitarian system, YOU are part of the problem.

  It is entirely typical of the way totalitarian systems work, that people who are well-informed and pointing out the facts, are accused of “spreading disinformation” and suppressed, even by “legal” action by the forces of the State.
  
  I would seriously consider voting for Billy TK this time regardless of some of his ideas being too far out, simply because, like with many Americans who voted for Trump, the status quo so badly needs a disruption that the long-established so-called “centre right” parties are not providing. I certainly want to be at public rallies waving a placard that states the truth about something the government’s “experts” are LYING to us about.
  
  ACT is the best of the long standing ones but even they are far too much leaving the hard foot work of fighting for freedom of speech, and against official lies and the tyranny based on them, to people like the New Conservatives, the Tamakis, and Billy TK’s mob.
  
  I would just say that it is at least a small relief to me that we don’t have a government and Police force doubling down on the totalitarianism like that rotter Andrews and his thugs in Victoria. Yes, even here things could have been worse, so far. I do wonder if MMP helps keep politicians slightly more honest, because the people who take the trouble to get informed and active are at least likely to win a few seats one day.

If the grasping relatives had just accepted that their loved ones had died, taken the very generous hand outs and gone away to grieve most people would sympathise with them.       The bulk of the relatives have accepted their loved ones are dead, and tried to move on. It is only a few, whipped up into a frenzy by Little & Co for political gain, that the issue is still alive.
      
      Some families of the many deceased, have said they tried to put it behind them and get closure but they open the paper or go online and there is Pike River again in the media. It is a living hell for many of them.

        @IC5000: following the Pike River accident the Government set up a Royal Commission which carried out an extensive and expensive inquiry, resulting in a lengthy and detailed report with a long list of recommendations for reform to health and safety regulation. This in turn resulted in a thoroughgoing and comprehensive revision of the health and safety regime. What more did you actually want?

Ardern’s position on cannabis.
Too many people still blindly follow or believe in Ardern.
In the Labour Promise Tracker (based on data compiled by Davis Farrar) several examples record Ardern’s utter inability to deliver – 548 houses built so far of 100,000 homes in 10 years, to child poverty, where kids in material hardship increased from 12.7% in 2017 to 13.4% in 2019 – but political polls still show unbelievable enthusiasm for her leadership.
Indeed, her supporters and followers seem to not be rational, sane people.

Considering too, for example, Ardern’s moral and financial position in continuing to support the Taranaki Greenschool grant, I certainly don’t want her opinion on cannabis to be a factor in people’s voting – whether for, or against – since she herself in some matters seems to not be a rational, sane person.

  Does that apply to any communist? They are bullies firstly. The leader/activists are power driven with “ideology” as their guide, like horses with blinkers.
  
  Being “nice” is not sufficient as a base of political action–nothing can happen as promised. Is a computer program which has to execute an outcome nice internally? The coding may be pretty, but its job is to pickup an instruction run that, get the next and repeat until done. This is a govt of “nops”– (no operations), instructions which fill in and do nothing. Sometimes a wait is important but year after year?

In this election Judith Collins enjoys and should make more of the enormous advantage of exemplifying through her own family the “melting pot” approach which is the truly “progressive” way for New Zealand to develop if it is to be a successful society. Ardern, with her bizarre desire at every opportunity to dress up in hijab (an expression of the oppression of women and intolerance) is the very opposite and indeed a caricature of backwardness.

I’m fuming and utterly disgusted with our Media today. Judith came to Nelson on Monday and our next paper was on the Wednesday. Nothing on the front page but Judith was on page 3.

Jacinda came to Nelson yesterday. She not only has half the front page but also more on Page 3!!.

If that’s not blatant political bias I don’t know what is. I feel like cancelling my paper but I like to know what’s happening locally – I know I could go on-line but prefer paper. Also I especially like the puzzles page!!?? Keeps the brain nourished.

    Just to add to my earlier furious complaint I should mention that the headline for Jacinda on the front page is ‘We can win Nelson – Ardern’ and then it goes on to push Rachel Boyack as being more or less a certainty for taking seat off Nick Smith. Surely that is campaigning for Boyack. I will seriously look at the good advice received following my earlier comment. Let’s hope Nick wins the seat. Considering the presently disputed Ihumātoa land was sold to Fletchers for $19 million and is now rated to be worth around $40 million, has the Peters/Labour Government handling of the controversy and Auckland re-zoning of Ihumātao not already unbalanced the Treaty settlement with the local iwi Te Kawerau ā Maki?

It diminishes democratic accountability; and small parties will be shut out of political debate/campaigning. It’s hard enough over 3 years. 4 years or 8 is a long wilderness. Longer than most parli. careers.

3. Leaders Debate #2 (NZ) exposed the lack of depth in Jacinda Ardern away fro cloistered management, selfies, celebrity adulation and her personality cult sycophancy.

4. JUDITH! Get talking to the Greens and throw them a single policy bone and a seat in cabinet, now before the election, in exchange for Supply & Conf.

5. “AOTEAROA” [A-o-tee-a-rower? or A-o-tay-a-ruha] is unpronouceable to most if not all the world; will make NZ an even less relevant banana island somewhere (“Scandinavia?…oh, Polynesia, what, near Nauru?”); and is an iwi derivative I think from the Waikato. There was never a “nation” of Aotearoa, Maori were always regional, tribal, never united, and this is like calling Canterbury “Auckland” but in TeReo.

6. It’s “Pacific” not Pasifika which has been made redundant (now racist) as it excludes Hawaii and west Polynesia. See the Tapasā curriculum.

7. Why did the Maori party abscond at the last minute from the second tier parties debate (9.30am Sat morn)?

ACT is a party largely for, and dominated by, younger voters who haven’t been seduced by the Marxist nonsense shoved down their throats by members of the filthy Teachers’ Unions. NZ First’s constituency is essentially a gaggle of whining old pensioners (I am old enough to qualify!) who hunger after other peoples money and are returning to Jacinda’s circus.   ACT is also hoovering up National supporters disillusioned with the party. The same thing happened in 2002 when ACT got just over 7% and English got 20.93%
  
  The trick for ACT is post election, when National actually get themselves together is to see if they can maintain their momentum.
  
  In 2005, Nats came back strong on 39.10%, ACT dropped to 1.5%.
  
  ACT have a real opportunity here to actually become the majority right party, but the question is will they take it, or will they forever live behind Nationals shadow.
  
  Having no NZF does make things interesting, but I think NZF votes either go to Labour or Nats, some will also go to ACT, but for many NZF supporters ACT’s proposed cuts to public service, increases in super age etc will not be vote winners for NZF’s aging demographic.

I was thinking about Judith Collins strategic decisions in the debate the other night, and I observed the following:

1. Judith chose to wear red – I wonder if that was on purpose to make a pitch to centrist/swinging labour voters.

2. She said she would stop large companies from taking advantage of the wage subsidy whereas Cindy want it to be “moral” decision – once again I think this was a pitch to centrist/swinging labour voters

3. Throughout the debate she kept bringing up she was Christian – I think that was a pitch the Pacific Chrisitan community vote.

3. She said she would role back the gun resgister – this I think was an attempt get some votes back from ACT.

Do you agree? I wonder what the next poll will say…

    ACT’s Seymour was the only MP who called for a rational, calm review of firearms legislation after the mosques massacres.
    
    National did not stand with him, and law changes were pushed through.
    
    I doubt that many lawful firearms owners are keen to get a gun register. They seem mostly to be happy with the present control system, which focuses on owners and licensing.

Parts of our universities are sick, sick, sick. Reverse discrimination at Otago University that’s swamping medical and health courses with lower-marks students isn’t something exceptional.

ACT’s championing charter schools. Not enough! Nowhere near enough. We need to move education for professions, engineering, science, agriculture and other vocational work into charter tertiary institutions.

      Crazy rockape but not unexpected since for a long time native language and so called culture have been included in nursing courses at the cost of core subjects. It is for this reason that NZ trained nurses do not perform some basic procedures which migrant nurses arrive conversant in. Back in the day a young friend who took up nursing was a welcome dinner guest who entertained us with his “progress”. On one occasion telling us he was sent for 2 hours in the library to study one word of native gibberish and write an essay on it. He also had some funny anecdotes from his night shift work in a local old folks home. It was the latter that led to his biggest gripe about what they were not studying or lost from the course displaced by irrelevant matters.

    The Muslim females in Christchurch cannot be forced to wear specific clothing, not drive, operate Bank accounts or do anything local females do so their complicity in adhering to their culture is either the community they live in and are scared to be different or they are infiltrating their host society with no intention of adopting that basic tenets of their hosts culture and practices whilst still retaining the best aspects of their own culture. In the UK I observed many Sikhs and other distinct minorities who would dress and act like locals with some token acknowledgement of their culture like wearing a Turban. They were respected as was their culture in fact I traded with some and attended some of their cultural events which were colorful, interesting and a bridge between culture through understanding.

      Most of my long past forebears have been put down by outsiders. The Cockney were got by the Romans. I resonate very strongly with the Irish and feel about the British earlier intrusion. My Highland Scots had a hard time too similarly. My German portion seems to have annoyed others.
      
      If I was to take sides It may tear me to pieces. The past has to stay in its own zone. I’m definitely white by skin but my late wife was distinctly olive and our son was frequently mistaken by the Police as Maori or some such–he was brownish so a hazard to be examined from time to time in situ. Their crimes against race were ancestral colour genetics via Guernsey.
      
      I have discovered that tolerance goes a long way towards peaceful relations. Skin colour is irrelevant, humans have common aspirations to thrive world wide. In a stranger’s society leave them to their choices and try not to offend publicly against their values. I managed to live and work in Samoa for 7 years that way. I had to develop systems consonant with their culture and promote their society and nation. That did not require me exclude my own personality or values but to recognise I was a relative nobody in a different society. I became somebody by recognising that, even if I wasn’t served in a few shops. By acceding that people who I didn’t know ranked way above me I lost nothing. I was accorded the privilege eventually of being offered residency, land purchase rights and a Title. My roots in Wellington called me home. [The Rout of Labour ‘1975 was required. I turned Onehunga, the retiring Labour Deputy PM, into a close to marginal seat with my campaingn caravan being demolished by a Molotov cocktail on the eve of the election.]

I remember when

LAWA ten year summary of water quality for Canterbury waterways.
Lowland areas have worst water quality, followed by those flowing through pastoral areas , while those in native forest had the best.
Water quality in pastoral areas, while better than urban areas, showed a large decline from native vegetation catchments.
In rural areas there are auditable farm environmental plans, nutrient limits and rules to keep livestock out of waterways.
The report was a ‘mixed bag’ with a river improving or every one that was declining.
It was agreed that it is a longterm game.

Missing the point completely that those to get the most from this will be mainly middle income public servants. The same group that are likely to be most vocal about wage demands who are also those most likely to go on strike for more.

  The govt already gives tax dollars to organisations built around belief systems. They just call those other ones secular and think that somehow makes a difference. People only ask this about religious organisations because they have already mistakenly assume that religious beliefs have no rational basis compared to secular beliefs.
  
  The vast majority of people have no clue of the rational basis for many secular ideals.
  
  Psychology and the social sciences, for instance, are currently facing serious credibility problems. The govt still funds all that though purely because they most people still think they are reliable and credible. Most people see no problem with it because they don’t know the problems with it. I’m sure if people understood Marxism and realized that 1 in 4 psychology professors describe themselves as ‘radical’ and ‘Marxist’, they would have serious problems with it.
  
  I want the govt to fund things where I think funding will help us get to the true and the good.
  
  Funding mosques isn’t doing that because Islam is false. Funding churches, particularly Catholic parishes, however, is a possibility because Christianity, and Catholicism specifically, is true. Only a possibility though because, as Labour has shown this term, funding something doesn’t necessarily make it better. It would be a case by case basis.

I missed the post on the second Auckland harbour crossing. Can I give you the history around the current bridge as it is a perfect illustration of short sighted local and central government mentality.

The US company that built the Sydney harbour bridge in the late 20s early 30s offered the then government they would build a duplicate and take an agreed toll for 30 years maintain the bridge and then turn it over to the government.

Remember at that time it was the Depression with many out of work.

The government refused saying a crossing wasnt necessary.

After WW2 Sir John Allum Mayor of Auckland proposed an 8 lane double track rail cycle way and walk way. The government reduced this over time to 4 lanes only with the bridge opening in May 1959.
Due to traffic volumes to bridge was doubled to 8 lanes with the Nippon Clippons.
In the early 1970s The Auckland Harbour Bridge Authority proposed a tolled crossing at Meola Reef a low structure to reduce cost and to link with a proposed Ring Road that would take non CBD traffic.

The government refused saying it wasnt necessary.

In 1984 Rob Muldoon abolished the toll then 20 cents only one way City to Shore to try and win the election.

So there could have been a second crossing from mid to late 70s with a toll at the rate of 20 cents adjusted for inflation and if the toll on the original bridge had been maintained the tolls would have paid to maintain and pay the interest on the borrowings.

How do I know this. My late Uncle Owen Brannigan was Secretary Treasurer and then General Manage from the time the AHBA was established until it was disbanded.

Bugger all people know the history including the Pollies as I have found out from time to time when questioning the morons.

They believe National has lost too much ground over its stumbles since Bill English was rolled. In addition the media support Ardern who in their eyes can do no wrong.

Turns out the main character in the video lied about his background and, in a delicious irony, was convicted of immigration fraud back in the mid-2000s.

So as is normal for veritas, their works of fiction fall apart within days.

Back in the 60s and 70s, reporters going undercover was seen as valid and important, heroic work and now, somehow, it is frowned upon with Dems saying, oh, you’re not allowed to film people without their consent yadda, yadda, when they were perfectly OK with it in the past.
  
  You only have to look at the work Veritas produces to see how true it is. You think they have actors make up all this stuff? No, those are real people, with their names given and faces shown doing they things they do on camera. It is not faked in any way. Most times (as with the reporting from abortion clinics) they release the whole long-form video so you can see it is not deceptively edited.
  
  If they are complaining about people undercover not being who they claim to be, well, duh – that is what undercover is. Or do you not understand that is what is involved in disguising oneself?
  
  May they long continue to expose fraud and uncover the plans of the left. Remember after Trump won the election, the plans to disrupt his inauguration with butyric acid chemical attacks by the “D.C. Anti-Fascist Coalition” and the “Disrupt J-20” group? Just imagine if that had gone ahead.

Orange Donny is saying he won’t accept any rules changes for the next two presidential debates. Not a smart move.

Trump needs the presidential debates a lot more than Biden does. He needs something to turn the polls around, and the debates are an opportunity to do that. But after Tuesday’s debacle the Biden camp already have a plausible excuse to decline future debates. Trump refusing to consider rules changes just makes that case much stronger.

Only 2 nights ago at the debate Jacinda was scathing about National wanting to change the RMA, and gave the impression she thought there was no need to make any changes and it wasn’t impacting on house prices.
  
  Since a recent poll in the Herald had 50% in favour on tax cuts, 29% say no change and 9% say increase taxes – I fully expect Labour’s next policy announcement to be tax cuts!

  Prior to the last election we had Twyford constantly on TV calling Nick Smith useless over the housing issues; with Smith clearly articulating the core issue was the RMA, and there is no better example of working around the RMA nonsense was what happened in Christchurch after the earthquakes and land was freed up.
  Labour, Greens, Dunne and the self serving Maori party, blocked Nationals attempts to reform the RMA so if I was Judith, I would be going full noise on Ardern over this latest ‘on the hoof’ policy.

    This RMA debacle is the one issue that has severely shaken my faith in the National Party.
    Over their nine years in office, people out in the regions literally begged them to reform the RMA – but they just wouldn’t and consistently and gutlessly blamed others for it.
    Mostly it was Winston Peters who was blocking it apparently. We were told this numerous times and not just by our own electorate MP (for whom I am unlikely to vote this time because of his slack attitude).
    I would like to believe that Ms Collins will do something positive about the RMA it if she gets in – but will not hold my breath.

Not sure if anyone saw the Princess on her campaign trail where she promises to repeal the RMA. It took her 3 years and 2 housing ministers to figure that out. Golly, the “tools” in my hardware box are more useful than her and her dwarfs!

Maybe its just the Isolation facilities just don’t have any isolation and also that you don’t need a clean bill of health before you get on the aeroplane.

I remember when

Labour ready to “hit the go button” on regional state service hubs early next term if re-elected.
State Service Minister Chris Hipkins told Stuff that work outside the main centres would take pressure off existing offices.
In Wellington, places like Upper and Lower Hutt, Porirua and Kapiti had suitable under-utilised commercial areas and populations of public servants.

  Just chippie wanting people to work (haha) from home, and stop the traffic flow to the city. Come to Auckland Hipkins and see what it is like on the Shore – when you work on the Shore, travel 8 min to Rosedale on Sundays, but 70 min when the bridge is fucked.

  As usual, Australia showing some initiative and our Government so paralysed with fear they’re afraid to do anything proactive. The only state with more recent community transmission than us is Victoria. Tasmania, ACT, NT, WA, and SA have all been without community transmission far longer than the 101 days Ardern has been crowing about to the world. And so because of this stupid over-conservative approach, anyone actually going to NSW or NT has to quarantine on the way back, making the whole thing pointless.
  
  What hacks me off most is the sheer hypocrisy from Ardern – all too willing to blag on about the travel bubble and get political mileage out of it, but unwilling to actually do anything about it, and clearly not wanting anyone using it. “I encourage New Zealanders to think about spending their dollars here locally.”
  
  Fuck off, it’s my money, I’ll spend it where and how I want.

The bank takes no pride.
The owner takes no pride.
The tenant takes no pride.

It is a passive investment that for the most part employs few people for the money involved and doesn’t seem to increase the quality of the national housing stock. Most rentals are largely ‘modernised’ when they are about to be sold, or lived in by the owner.

Taking the GST off building products like toilets, along with tampons, would be somewhat of an election winner imho; national productivity for a start. Then there’s tradies, apprentices……….interest rates are low….. RMA thing…….and overhaul the tax system in the 2nd year, super, rentals, business, income…. – just the big stuff. 😎

Edit: NZ already has a good welfare system so leave that to take care of itself while implementing a better tax system. Current retirees and other beneficiaries aren’t part of the central matter so leave them to the side.

How many people are now wishing POTUS dies of C-19? I bet the Democrats think all their Christmases have come at once not DJT and Melania have tested positive. Will wee see any outpouring of sympathy from the left? I highly doubt it. The cheering in the streets from the Antifa terrorists and the anti Trumpers will be on display for all to see. When he recovers, and he will, I hope he takes the lot of them to the nearest place of incarceration for a very long spell of reflection.

  It would be ironic though, he did claim this virus was nothing to worry about at the beginning of the year. Very karmic indeed.

Goldsmith, National’s finance spokesperson, has pointed out that Labour’s fiscal plan hasn’t included costings or funding for two expensive election promises, pumped hydro and light rail from Auckland CBD to the airport.

“Pumped hydro has estimates starting at $4 billion. Yet there is no mention of it in Labour’s pamphlet. Labour can’t have a policy targeting 100 per cent renewable electricity by 2030 without a clear plan to get there and how it will be paid for,” Goldsmith said.

“Labour’s also promising to reboot its failed light rail project, which has been estimated to cost at least $6 billion… This is at least $10 billion worth of projects that will have to be funded but Labour hasn’t included in its numbers.”

Ardern has rejected Goldsmith’s comments as “absolutely ridiculous and desperate”.

“I don’t think anyone actually thinks that is a logical argument that a project that hasn’t completed a business case even should be included in a plan.”

Apparently if you don’t have a business case for something, you don’t have to pay for it.

  If the projects that dont have a business case aren’t included in the plan then St Jacinda of the Pestilence is basically saying the Lake Onslow project and Light rail wont happen. This despite they being part of the promises labour is making.
