In a tweet she farewelled Trump who departed Washington DC and the White House this morning.

Thunberg shared an image of the former president waving goodbye to supporters.

  Stephieboy – let’s look at what Joe Biden did on his first day in office. The first day of office gives a pretty good idea of a Pres’s priorities. Joe Biden signed five executive orders about immigration. Essentially no illegal immigrant is going to be deported not even the worst criminals. He has sent a signal to the southern border that it is open again and we can expect thousands and thousands of illegal immigrants to pour through. So that’s a blow to the American worker. Thousands of illegals will pour through the border competing for jobs and taking low wages.
  
  Joe Biden destroyed women’s sports by allowing biological men to compete again. Women will have to compete against men putting them at an incredible disadvantage. So that’s a blow to American women.
  
  And Joe Biden cancelled the Keystone pipeline thereby cancelling 11,000 jobs. The Keystone pipeline was part of America’s move towards energy independence. They will have to import energy.
  Joe Biden did this so that he can bring in thousands of prospective Democrat voters, pandered to the LGBT lobby and pander to the climate change crowd. All of these moves will harm America and harm the American people.

    There are many of us that don’t deny “climate change” as you would have to be a moron to not understand that climate does indeed change.
    
    What I do not accept is that we, mankind, are the driver and can make a real difference and I believe you have to be an arrogant moron to believe that you can.
    
    I would rather the focus was directed onto something tangible that can make an immediate and long term difference and that is cleaning up our environment and not just plastic fucking bags.

      If climate change is man made, how will moving money from rich states to poor ones help?
      Surely taking money from rich states will not impact, significantly, their life style. BUT add unearned wealth to poor countries will add significantly to the carbon footprint of those countries, as they strive to be more like us?

        Poor countries rely more on fossil fuels than richer ones. Richer ones may use fossil fuel but they have photocopy machine generated carbon credits.

      I totally agree with you Tall Man. Who would think we could be so clever as to change the climate. Too often people lump climate change and pollution in the same basket. They are both two totally different issues. Yes, we certainly must look after everything with regard to pollution to our environment/waterways etc but it’s not going to change the climate. That’s down to the solar system. It has always changed and always will and did so long before the industrial revolution.

The Covid hysteria which is encouraged by the MSM on a daily basis has been the greatest opportunity to be able to shut down the proper scrutiny of politicians, senior civil servants due to the Labour Gov’t buying control of nearly all of the media outlets in NZ.       I’m tired of this Aotearoa name being foisted surreptitiously on our country. By law, my country of birth (and quite a few decades of residence) is called New Zealand. If our Government (or its friends) have any thoughts of bringing about a change of name, let them organize a poll of all registered voters to be conducted in conjunction with the next General Election. Unless and until the Aotearoa name is shown, formally and constitutionally, to be the clear preference of NZ’s citizens / voters, this country’s name, “New Zealand”, remains NZ’s only formal and legal name.

Provincial mayors call for rural bank branches to be made mandatory

Any chance of the government forcing banks to open as demanded? What happened to user pays? How much will users pay for the service to allow it to break even? There is the principle v haggling about the price (G B Shaw’s famous example).

Easy enough to talk about banks ‘making $4 billion’ – but the complainers never mention Return on Investment’. Nor do they mention how bank ROI compares to, say, PaknSave or the Warehouse. They just want a service someone else pays for.

(TSB still offers a chequebook but an increasing number Of organisations no longer accept them as payment. Some of them are government.)

  artemisia, years and years ago – the BNZ was still a New Zealand-owned bank, good grief! – ‘my’ bank was the BNZ in Panama Street, Wellington.
  
  I went in one day to pick up a new cheque book and the clerk opened up a cabinet and took out a rubber-banded collection of, oh, ten of the things; all pre-printed with my name.
  
  I imagine a good seven or eight are still there (though the Panama Street branch has long since shut)…

  Kiwibank was started to provide ‘services” the other banks weren’t willing to provide to people being “left behind” by purely commercial interests.
  
  KB is now at the forefront of closures , non acceptance of cheques and other what was once considered “basic” banking services .
  
  ACC and IRD are two huge gubmint /gubmint type orgs that have dropped cheque payments , leading the charge ,as it were .
  
  All well and good ,but under this left wing regime where’s the “inclusiveness” etc and all things to all kiwis ?
  
  Payment for services ,you say , the banks charge for what they do , they don’t do anything for free . With their reduction in services their profits go up , they still charge but reduce what they give , so cry me a river over how hard a life they have …….

  If Provincial mayors want rural bank branches to be mandatory perhaps they should pay the banks to open branches. Or as usual want something without having to pay for it.
  
  My closest town has a kiosk. The best thing ever as it is 24/7. So as far as I am concerned the banks service has improved.

Less than 4% of Kiwis speak te reo. I’m 73 years old, speak four languages and don’t want to learn another one. Especially one that isn’t very useful to me.

    Interesting that there are two articles on Stuff. One visible from desktop and the other from mobile phone browser. The one linked below refers to financial issues. The other one, linked above, with Tso alone simply avoids the “Why”.
    
    The financial issues mentioned could mean no money for salaries ? Maybe because money was spent on non-medical expenses as (CEO) Luke said it became clear the medical centre had to provide a service “beyond just providing scripts to patients”
    
    Maybe the two different articles Stuff’s way of avoiding wronging Maori in the past for which they have publicly self-flaggellated themselves and committed to not do that again.
    
    But at the same time their stupid red begging banner below says “Having independent news media free to report without fear or favour is vital.” And hence the addition of more detail.

    Sb2. Your quote is from Trump’s speech. And yes that is the main phrase they have claimed in the impeachment documents that incited violence – which is laughable. Especially given the context of the rest of the speech which said peacefully March to the capital and cheer the strong senators.
    My quotes were the two posts that were deleted by Twitter on the basis that “they could incite further violence.” And caused his permanent ban from Twitter. As you can see those tweets were completely benign.

I remember when

DF’s item on Chris Liddell highlights the approach that seems to be standard when assessing a person’s ability for a job.
First we list their failures (often considered failures) and dismiss the attributes.
Surely we should considered the abilities that make a person suitable first, then look at the reasons that might disqualify them.
If they do not have the skills required for the job, the lack of reasons to disqualify is hardly important.

Here’s some good news about Covid. Infection rates are dropping, despite what the nespapers would have you believe. The US is 20% down week on week, the UK 50% down on this time two weeks ago. Some experts believe that the symptom free Covid has hit so many people that those countries who have widespread community transmission will likely achieve herd immunity through infection before the vaccines can even be rolled out. But scaremongering politicians like Boris Johnson are still talking about how things may be getting worse.

Here’s some bad news. New Zealand has no herd immunity. Winter approaches. We have a large Polynesian population who are highly vulnerable. We seem to have held the door open for other countries to get the vaccines ahead of us. Our smugness is largely unearned, given the inadequacies in MIQ and that we are a remote island nation. Fingers crossed that nothing breaks out in the next few weeks, because by then I shall be gone!!

I remember when

‘Russians Probe Circus Over Nazi Monkey.’
The circus, put on by a local church in Izhevsk, was caught on video featuring a monkey in Nazi uniform.
Such symbols are illegal, but last year President Putin exempted negative Nazi depictions.
Obviously, if you ban Nazi material it also impacts on your ability to belittle them too.

I remember when

Public Health England research on covid in healthcare workers in the UK:
Most people who catch covid-19 are protected for at least 5 months.
Past infection linked to 83% lower risk of getting virus.
Protection was by no means absolute.
From June to November almost 21,000 healthcare workers were regularly tested.
Among the 6614 with antibodies there were 44 potential new infections.
Of the 14,300+ without antibodies 318 developed potential new infections.
Scientists will monitor the healthcare workers for a year.
The new strain has not yet been included in their research.
Does the above mean the vaccine will require a yearly injection in the autumn or if intending to travel overseas?

Have they truely only just thought of this.
If they had genuinely acted early and fast. There would have been NO community transmission.

The age of satire truly is dead in NZ. Steve Braunias, Ardern fanboy, states today there is nothing to mock, nothing ridiculous, nothing funny about Ardern and her front bench.
He found the son 0f an immigrant mother, raised in a state house, who rose to become a multi-millionaire global CEO and returned to give service to his country as PM through some of our darkest times hilarious. He depicted John Key as a lightweight airhead.
But there’s nothing remotely funny about Robertson, Hipkins, Little, Twyford etc.
Perhaps he is right. Perhaps there is nothing to laugh about. Their incompetence and arrogance are so profound and dangerous that we should be terrified for the future of our country.
No room for satire here.

      In order for her articles of impeachment to be sent to the Senate, for trial (and conviction), she (currently) needs the support of at least five Democratic representatives, and then, 17 Democratic senators.
