The US operates a Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System – VAERS. This service tracks adverse reactions to any vaccine administered in the US. Helpfully, VAERS publish their datasets.

In 2020 there were 42,892 recorded adverse reactions which resulted in 166 deaths. That equates to a 0.38% event fatality rate.

In the first three weeks of 2021 (all data that’s currently available) there were 2,160 adverse reactions which resulted in 281 deaths. That equates to a 13.0% event fatality rate, alarmingly a 3400% increase on the 2020 rate.

Put another way, there were 1.7x the number of deaths reported in the first three weeks of 2021 when compared to all of 2020.

I wondered if this variation could be attributed to seasonal factors, but looking at the January 2020 data, there were 940 adverse reactions and only 3 deaths, resulting in a 0.32% event fatality rate.

Perhaps Covid-19 deaths have been impacting the 2021 event fatality rate? So I checked June and November 2020 statistics. This was when the scamdemic fear porn was being pumped into media channels 24×7. Those months showed vaccination adverse event fatality rates of 0.37% and 0.16% respectively.

To summarise, over 2020 the mortality rate linked to adverse vaccination events averaged 0.38%. In the first three weeks on 2021 it increased 3400% to 13.0%.

So, a few pertinent questions:

1. When authorities repeatedly claim Covid-19 vaccines are ‘safe and effective’, what exactly do they mean?

2. Where is the detailed analysis of this large jump in mortalities related to adverse reactions?

3. How can any person give the informed consent necessary for acceptance of a medical intervention in the absence of answers?

  Can I respectfully suggest that the analysis be considered from the point of view of total vaccines administered. I agree that adverse events and deaths should not be swept under the rug, but instead reported and understood. However, the most informative statistic would be the risk per vaccination, rather than the risk per adverse event.

    It’s fair to assume that the gross number of vaccinations of all types has massively increased year on year.
    
    Projecting the 3-week 2160 figure results in a 37,440 adverse event count for 2021. So the 2021 adverse event count is tracking behind the 2020 rate despite total vaccination number increasing.
    
    Yet the death rate is massively higher. It’s difficult to conclude anything other than the Covid-19 vaccination is driving this. The questions are why, and who will front up to explain?

        No Ehlana. I saw a documentary on Africa and it was only in South Africa that the death rate of blacks from the Wuhan virus was higher than whites. So it would suggest it may be due to lifestyle, diet and other factors such as overcrowding. Elsewhere in Africa the mortality rate was much lower.
        Frank The Tank, is it not demeaning and racist to Maori from those who’re saying they’re somehow inferior or genetically weak thus are disproportionately more likely to get the Wuhan virus. Or is it easier to bring out the old crock of shit that it’s colonialism that’s done it. Instead perhaps we could look at the proportion of Maori compared to other New Zealander’s that have underlying health problems and why is that?       Whether they are genetically predisposed or not I couldn’t say. Certainly factors such as obesity, smoking and drinking, together with other diseases such as diabetes will lower someone’s immunity, although to be clear I’m not suggesting that only Maori (or all Maori) fit that profile.
      
      One thing’s for sure, it is already being framed as an issue of “health inequality” as though you should pander to people who disrespect and abuse their own bodies, and leave others to wait.

  I totally agree Maggy – this would not occur in any other forum in NZ (ok, A-NZ since it’s almost waitangi day).
  
  We have a human rights commission, hiding behind their “TeKahui Tiki Tangata” moniker, to fight unlawful discrimination. But they are evidently too gutless to take on the elephant in the room: this ingrained Maori sexism, tolerated because it is “traditional cultural practice”. These race-based double standards render TKTT’s credibility non-existant.
  
  The old male sexist pigs calling the shots for Ngapuhi reveal what a hypocritical sham it is by okaying one white female party leader, but then they’re too scared to listen to Judith Collins speak. Maori are apparently unable to meet the same levels of accountability as all the other citizens in our country, so they are given a lower bar – a special pass, because they’re too feeble to meet the national standard.

  There was a claim to the Waitangi Tribunal about it back in 1993. The Mana Wahine claim as it was known. A brief summary of the matter is as follows.
  “In 1993, a group of Maori women submitted a claim to the Waitangi Tribunal (hereafter referred to as the Mana Wahine claim) alleging that the Crown’s actions and policies since 1840 have systematically discriminated against Maori women and deprived us of our spiritual, cultural, social and economic well-being which is protected by the Treaty of Waitangi. The impetus for the claim was the removal of a respected Maori woman elder from the shortlist of appointees to the Treaty of Waitangi Fisheries Commission and the control of the fisheries settlement process almost exclusively by the Crown and Maori men. The Minister of Maori Affairs at the time, Doug Kidd, responded to news of the claim with the comment that the lack of status accorded to Maori women was the fault of Maori men — not the Crown.? The Minister’s comment illustrated the Crown’s unsympathetic attitude towards the position of Maori women and the Crown’s unwillingness to consider its part in discriminating against Maori women. The Mana Wahine claim is yet to be heard by the Waitangi Tribunal.”

    Alwyn it’s not the crown that’s discriminated against Maori women, it’s their culture. The treaty clearly says all will be treated as equal. But no doubt the waitangi kangaroo court will blame it on the evil colonialists.

  It’s ironic that the Mana Wahine Inquiry is being held to discover why Māori women have been marginalised for far too long and how the impact of colonisation has caused the negation of rights over their bodies, minds, and beliefs.
  
  A substantial voice granted and paid for by their heinous oppressors. The voice denied them by their own people. These women look determined, you’d think they might have dealt with their own men’s oppression and shortcomings before calling out everyone else’s.
  
  In a rapacious quest for funding, Maori are very quick to point the finger at others. When will we address the oppression occurring from within Maoridom? Not only equal speaking rights either, don’t stop there. How about the abuse of our children, not least continually portraying them as losers with special needs? Knowing the risks, wouldn’t you take extra care to keep them away from the harm of drugs, alcohol and crime? The inquiry has been a long time coming but what on earth have these women been doing for the last 28 years?

It’s no surprise that for all the talk of “empowering women”, our politicians went to Waitangi yesterday and grovelled in spite of the female Leader of the Opposition not being allowed to speak.

“We will ask our tribal elders and experts whether it can happen next year!” – give me a break. Bill English knew all too well that going to Waitangi was a waste of time. It achieves nothing but grandstanding and a feeling of self-importance for those who participate.

Jacinderella tightens her grip on the moribund print media with $50 million of subsidies to back “community journalism”. These should at least keep Stuff afloat.

The money builds on the present $1 million Local Democracy Reporting fund, supplied through New Zealand on Air, and administered by Radio New Zealand. This pays for half a dozen or so regional reporters who supply stories to the newspapers and Radio NZ.

The Herald reminds us that last April the Government coughed up $50 million for the media, mainly broadcasters, though, this included “$16.5 million to reduce media organisations’ NZ on Air content contribution fees for the 2020-21 financial year; $1.3 million for central government and Crown entities to take up news media subscriptions; and $11.1 million for targeted assistance to companies if needed.”

These lolly scrambles are a good investment for politicians. Who pays the piper, calls the tune.

Whilst this happens, the word will soon replace my home, and I will be very sad.       DoubleHappy you can always leave which is what I did 2 years ago, the best decision of my life because from across the Tasman I’ve realised that I can’t live in NZ any more. Even from here it makes me ill. Australia is a great country and I respect/envy Ozzie’s patriotism. Sure they’ve got their warts but it’s not my country and I don’t get involved in it.

        My thoughts are that if I were younger, that is exactly what I would do. I’m near mid-’70s now and have medical insurance and the need for it. There would be no stopping me if I were a bit younger. Who really is liked in the Blairite’s inner circle? Which close minister doesn’t get an invite and has a meltdown and starts leaking (would be priceless if Angry)? Which Nat MP gets invited and gets shit for the next 2 years?

A good illustration of the effect of Covid on a population is India, which doesn’t vaccinate for flu and has done little about Covid. The mean number of deaths per annum from flu there is about 130.000 against current Covid deaths of 155,000. I imagine under-reporting is about the same for both. India of course is different from other populations, although I note that in the UK, South Asians are twice as likely to die from Covid than whites. I should note that the population of India is 1.366 billion, so the difference in deaths between Covid and flu is scarcely significant.

  I suspect the answer to India doing far better than North America or Europe comes down to their doctors treating patients well before they get to hospitals. Currently, in Europe and NA, if you have Covid, unless you are in hospital there is no treatment. In India, and other parts of the world they are treating patients with Ivermectin and other drugs well before hospitalization. But of course, what could we learn from them?

Maybe they could start by actually giving the supposed teachers a few basic lessons in maths.
Most probably won’t hurt to send them to aisle 17 at bunnings and buy some hardened up material first.
Teachers that can’t repeat their 12 times table can’t teach maths.
Throw all calculators and computers out of all classes.

  Most of the teachers can’t teach English either based on some of the CVs I see from young people.
  
  I studied English at school in Taiwan. I then studied English Literature at University. At school it was hard work. We did “parsing” studying the form of sentences broken down into component parts. Yes it was tedious. But as a result my written English is superior to most New Zealanders. (Sorry if that offends – I don’t want to be arrogant – it is just a fact.).
  
  Of course I did all this because I knew that being highly proficient in English would give me lifetime rewards.

        I am an immigrant to Australia (and a citizen). I came here for the superior career opportunities, the beaches and women. I would be a clown if I immigrated to a country then slagged off the inhabitants while taking advantage of these opportunities. NZ and Australia have hundreds millions of people wanting to immigrate and make a new life there as these countries are superior to their own.       That is unhelpful. That is why we have sampling. Let’s say there are 3,500,000 adults of working age in New Zealand. For me to be confident that I have superior English skills than the mean English skills, at a 95% confidence level and a 3.5% confidence interval, I woulds need to have sampled 780 adults. I have been here 15 years. So that is 1 adult per week. And I have done way more than that.

It is clear the KB commenters are a skewed *political* demographic… I am not sure how a right-leaning political demographic maps onto the proficiency in English Language in NZ. I suspect it is better than normal, but can tell you from experience the right leaning or very right demographicc in the USA is NOT so proficient in [American] English, due to poor educational opportunities and outcomes.
        
        The rest of your post is either nonsense, or misunderstanding of statistical sampling. By definition, the random assortment of comments on a blog over a period of time as long as Benedict cites shows an ebb and flow of commenters (apart from hard-core sad people like myself, and possibly he should adjust by X% for us tragics). But your refutation of “randomness” and population variables, is not as strong as you think, given Benedict’s decade-or-more sample size.

    A few years back my grand daughter wanted to work in our food van, no tills or calculators, first customer bought $10 of tucker with $20 she gave him $30 change. I asked her if someone gave her $2 and owed $1.50 how much change, she couldn’t answer me. I almost wept, instead I said to the war office, either we get her off the cash cash or go and get a massive float.
    It is the same with spell checker, they just learn nothing, half have it on US Language setting.

  Greg gets my support on the benefit of memorised tables as a basic for arithmetic, but only as a stepping stone and only in the earliest stage of education.
  
  Tables are nowhere near enough. As they progress through class years, kids need to be enticed into the basics of wider maths.
  
  To broaden this into a full technology and science education, we have the help of brilliant cheap tools like the Raspberry Pi range.
  
  Sadly, for most of our teachers, their enthusiasm, skills, and experience largely support indoctrination of global weather change, carbon dioxide levels, and indigenous culture. Most teachers are in the range of weak to pathetic when it comes to maths and technology.

    Memorised tables are good because they give you the tools to do a rough “sensibility check” on the results of div/mult/ratio/% etc sums where the answer is evaluated on a calculating device.
    
    When was the last time anyone here divided a 6 digit number by a 3-digit number using manual long division? Ditto for long multiplication.
    
    Too bad we went decimal in 1967 – long multiplication of pounds shillings and pence was a serious sort of skill …. 🙂

        They did start young. I taught one of my 10 yr olds (or thereabouts) the whole set of tables in a few weeks. She was struggling and probably had table fatigue. Repeated rote learning doesn’t facilitate random access which is what is needed for practical application.

At the time, she said to a teacher that the parent/teacher roles were reversing. “You take our kids on field trips to the museum etc, and we do the teaching at home”… The teacher agreed with her.

Last May a ship lost about 40 containers off the New South Wales coast, and in total it lost about 70 containers off Australia. Surgical masks were some of the cargo that washed up on Australian beaches.

The ONE Apus loses nearly 2000 containers in the Pacific. It rolled in a storm, and overboard they went:

  Very few containers are lost at sea in the scheme of things Jack5.
  
  The containers in a stack are locked together by twistlocks and then the stacks secured by lashing rods which are tensioned in a crisscross pattern on each side of the stack.
  
  The tension of the lashing rods are continually checked during the voyage and if necessary they are retensioned
  
  What can happen is the stacks have a natural resonance which is every engineers nightmare and if a swell matches the natural frequency or a harmonic thereof of the stack the oscillation in the stacks can build up which is where the accidents can occur
  
  Containers are not loaded willy nilly but to a plan and the behaviour of the stacks calculated before loading in order to meet logistical and safety requirements
  
  But in this world perfection is impossible and shit occaisionaly happens.
  
  One fascinating phenomina provided you are not at sea and encounter one are the rogue waves when two independant waves temporarily superimpose to create a huge one.
  
  We hit one which probably wasn’t that big off Cape Agulhas in 1978 – the steel foremast was bent by nearly 45 degrees, everything in the ship that was not secured ended up on the deck, and few came through unbruised, Just in the wrong place at the wrong time…
  
  But one or both of those phenonmina in combination will acount for the loss of those containers overboard

  Something I’ve beeen thinking as well. Basically they are getting bigger containerships.
  Of interest was the latest last week which were all empty containers by all accounts which is unusual as no racking forces at play.
  “I” believe its because the beam of these larger vessels 30 m is in direct proportion to the large swell / sea amplitude ( ie frequency) of waves.
  These large vessels ( As all container vessels) are severely prone to sychronised rolling or parametric rolling.
  Also remember more freight is carried on these large Container vessels as opposed to smaller “feede” vessels so are more prevalent in incidents etc.
  But in a nutshell , There beam and parametric rolling fits “nicely in the Goldilocks zone” of large swells 8-10m range and just like a pendulum the rolling gets worse with each swell being in Synchronisation with roll period.
  Remember too in simple terms “the more weight up high” the less violent the roll ( simplistic). Im thinking a lot of high GN ( Large stability) and hence more violent roll.
  A lot of container vessel (box boats) are returning to China with a lot of empty containers to cash in on hire rates to US/ Europe full. Basically leaving cargo behind to take back empties 20/40 ft

    The box ships usually roll a lot less (so as not to shed the boxes) than the old general cargo ships of yore, but unlike the old general cargo ships back in the 60’s and 70’s where I’ve stared down at the water from the bridge wing on 45′ rolls either side and felt quite safe, on box ships at those angles in a beam sea and a long swell – not so much.

      I understand the role of moderators and the legal pressures in 2021 however the funny thing about trolling is we should let the comments stand. In most ways they are more humiliating for the troll than banning.
      
      Indeed 20 years or so back stupid personal comments made on a sports field were taken as an acknowledgement of superiority of performance.
      
      I’ve always felt public humiliation and shame is a far greater tool than authoritarian banning.

    Learning about the Musket Wars is quite thought provoking. How did those Ngapuhi navigate around Coromandel peninsula without GPS. They were wonderful navigators. Taking into account the only power source on the waka was paddles that require immense energy, what did the canoeists eat. They couldn’t stop at Waihi for Kai For Cuzzies. Some books I have read suggest that some slaves may have been taken for “part” of the journey, hence a great source of protein for the hard working paddlers. Their navigational skills in going overland to Rotorua were phenomenal; no Google maps.
    There is much to admire and much to abhor about the Musket Wars.

I’ll be retiring soon in Thailand where I’ll be a minority. Sure there’s some there who’re prejudiced against my fair skin but the good people are wonderful and far outweigh the bad.       That was some reference to discontinuing cooking gas rather than banning, as I recall.
      In Bangkok cooking gas is used everywhere, including on the street as anyone who has been there will know.
      The smoke from street cooking causes as much pollution as the internal combustion engines used by cars, trucks.
      In recent years a lot of these people have been cleared off the streets. Now there’s an even bigger problem with farmers burning off this time of year. Huge problem. It’s illegal, but the farmers have no viable alternate and the enforcement agencies do nothing about it.

        In 2019 I went to Bangkok for distributor training. Didn’t notice a hell of a lot of gas fired street cooking, Certainly not in quantities to create air pollution. I do remember to countless “massage” shops, really poor electricity wiring and that petrol was cheaper than bottled water.
        
        The thing that took me the most is how Bangkok is transitioning to a world class destination and I’m almost positive that this will be a much nicer place to live than Auckland in a couple of decades

Did Andrew Little go to Waitangi in 2017. He did & Labour won all seven Maori seats.
Paula Bennett went to Waitangi & Bill went to Bastion Point.

The writing was on the wall by then anyway & I doubt not even making an effort to stand candidates in the Maori seats would’nt have helped.
Now the Nats have the dilemma of the Maori wards to think about.

We are on the cusp of a major technological revolution that will see Lithium-ion giving way to solid sate batteries. It’s implications for EV transport will be staggering and profoundly ground breaking.

Industry giants like Samsung, Toyota, QuantumScape (an American start-up company with investors like Bill Gates, Volkswagen and SAIC Motor) are in the race to turn EV battery usage on its head.

It promises to be the average EV owner’s dream – the answer to one of the most commonly mentioned EV adoption roadblocks – range anxiety and slow charge times. Just imagine being able to drive an EV further (up to 80%), charge it faster (to 80% in 10-15 minutes) and have a battery pack that outlasts the life expectancy of current batteries found in EVs.

Lab test outcomes have revealed that if solid-state batteries are used in EVs, an expected range upwards of 482km can be achieved and a battery can maintain 80% of its capacity for 800 cycles (which equates to at least 386,242km).

  Solid state batteries about $ us 600 a Kw, most cars need about 100kw, It’s going to be a bloody expensive car with a starting point of 60,000 for the batteries alone.did you miss the last para, disadvantages?   So given these types of batteries are expensive and (to date) unreliable what is the outcome – putting down a cool 150K for a 2028 Nissan Leaf that might not break down for 12 months?
  
  The fact that the car manufacturers are in control of the technology only means more cost for the end consumer. This is hardly altruistic.

  Getting the solid electrolyte right is particularly important as it’s the precursor to allowing the use of lithium anodes, which can produce more lithium-ions and thereby more energy. A solid-state electrode is thought to be the solution to the problem of damaging needle-like structures called dendrites forming on the anode as it charges’.

    Nancy Mace saying that they evacuated their offices in Cannon House due to a nearby threat is very different to AOC’s claims of fearing for her life etc and is both 100% factual and in no way sensationalised.
    The statement about seeing capital police being assaulted by protesters didn’t mean it was happening right in front of her face, just that it is wrong and not “who we are”.
    Saying that no insurrectionists stormed their hallway doesn’t conflict with her original statement. I honestly don’t know how you could possibly see these two statements as conflicting. I know you want them top but they don’t.

  It is entirely colonial. It was a name that Stephenson Percy Smith and Edward Treager of the Polynesian Society came up with. It was popularised in the writings of William Pember Reeves a well known New Zealand writer.
  With the new improved history of New Zealand that the government is going to write for the further brainwashing of the countries children I can see a lot of books from the 1800s and 1900s having to be burned or banned.

So according to 1 NEWS political reporter Maiki Sherman, Judith Collins not being allowed to speak at the marae in Waitangi wasn’t sexist – it was “tikanga Māori”.

Oh. Oh, okay. So that’s alright then, apparently. If something is “tikanga Māori”, then it doesn’t matter if similar actions outside of a Maori setting – say, in the workplace – might just possibly be seen as sexist.

… as happens out in the real world, where the president of the Tokyo organizing committee sparked outrage for suggesting women talk too much in meetings. There have been calls for his resignation and suggestions that his attitude was “outdated”. But on the marae, apparently Judith Collins is the one at fault for daring to challenge a similar attitude – because it’s “tikanga Māori”, you see, so you’re not allowed to question it.

  So what happened with Banks? It’s been reported he didn’t pick up on the offensive comments from the caller at the time.
  
  Harris says he spoke to Banks after the comment aired. He says a producer working on the show was in Tauranga, as that’s where regular host Williams is based.
  
  “The communications between the two of them were terrible. They couldn’t hear each other properly.’’
  
  He also says a producer was talking to Banks as the caller made the racist comments.
  
  MediaWorks, he says, needs to take some blame for what happened. It was easy for them to say Banks will never work there again. But why didn’t they put safeguards in place?
  
  This confirms what some of us here, who heard the broadcast, were saying which was Banks sounded distracted (when the caller was talking) and didn’t catch what was being said.
  
  Banksie’s “crime” it seems, was because he made a joke when he came back online to end the call (unfortunately using the same phrase “stone age people”), which is what saw the left get enraged (and demonstrate again, that they are incapable of reason, nor wanting to understand the context, before condemning someone).
  
  For a group of people, the “left” (as opposed to the “centre-left”) that preach “tolerance” show again they are incapable of practicing what they preach, when it comes to “conservatives”!
  
  Overall that wasn’t a bad article written by Keith Lynch, as it gave “balance”. Perhaps other journos could learn from him ….
