Brilliant. They need to keep this yacht formula and turn it into an event with races in different cities. Get rid of the challenger series and make it an event every two years. More like formula 1. The last two races were awesome and showed how it could be.

    He is an awesome competitor. Full on while he is in the game but if he gets beaten then accepts it and is not an asshole. I respect TNZ for an amazing effort but I also respect Luna Rossa for being such great competitors.

  Dalton and team NZ don’t own the cup, they competed on behalf of the RNZYS it is a race between clubs not countries.
  
  Dalton does very well financially out of it.
  
  Most of the crew are not sailors, they are monkey grinders. In 4 years they can be replaced by younger stronger monkey grinders,
  
  Personally I would like to see a return to basics a defender series and a challenger series.
  
  Why does it have to be a billionaire pissing match.
  
  A proper international regatta not the one man band circus it has become.

Damn. Now we will find our Government, both nationally and in Auckland will be rushing in to throw more hundreds of millions of dollars into the wallets of the people who control the event.
Let is go for God’s sake. If the New Zealand Marine Industry Association, who seem to be the only people who think they will make money out of the Cup, want it here let them put up the money.
How much money have the Government promised so far?
And did the PM spend the day in Auckland so she could claim that it was “her” Government that won the bloody thing?

  I’d argue Auckland Council has no money whatsoever and Labor right now will be doing focus groups on whether to fund another tilt. Personally it more depends on whether Dalton still has control – if he does expect an event on the Isle of Wight within 24 months and who would blame him after the crap he has had to put up with.

    I would argue that it is a race between yacht clubs.
    
    Dalton just ran the defense. He does not own the cup. He just clips the ticket.
    
    The RNZYS holds the cup.
    
    I would like to see a more international like regatta with a defender series, not a one man band and a challenger series.
    
    A yacht class that is more affordable to encourage more participants.

My partner’s mum just called to see if I knew who’d won. So I was able to tell her.
She was saying… “the thing that really pissed her off, was hearing Grant Robertson say that the government still had millions set aside in the budget to give to Grant Dalton, so he could keep the sailors here.”

Wont mention what she called Robbo, but she did say… “What about the poor old pensioners that can’t even afford to put food on their tables?”

What will be fascinating now is whether team Dalton or team Tindall run this team. I’m reasonably sure Dalton is over (little) Aotearoa and the smear campaign that threatened to ruin this event. And of course he had to deal with both Phils for a prolonged period.

Once the dust has settled there will be a story to tell

Look on the bright side – no more barely comprehensible pidgin english and otherwise dribble from the OneWokeSport after today. Presenters picked almost entirely based on diversity as opposed to competence. Dean Barker looked like he was serving a time penalty at times.

How many of you actually turned up at the viaduct to see and support?
There did not seem to be a huge crowd apart from the usual suspects.
Is it a national sport or is it still just a rich mans sport as claimed ?
We in the south would love to know!

I do hope the Government throws millions at these impoverished sailors. The prospect of them begging in the streets is making me cry.

Team New Zealand boss Grant Dalton splashed out on a $100,000 motorbike just weeks before he went cap-in-hand for taxpayer cash.

It’s understood Dalton “traded up” an older-model Ducati and also bought a limited edition 1199 Panigale R.

The bike is one of only 500 produced worldwide and only two imported to New Zealand – one of which Dalton received less than three weeks ago.

Dalton’s properties are worth more than $10m – including a 911sq m home on exclusive Victoria Ave in Remuera.

The property features a tennis court and swimming pool and has a 2011 valuation of $7.65m.

Now I see he’s bought a 3.7 million catamaran. The poor bugger is doing it tough.

I didn’t even know it was on apart from a couple of billboards, I’d driven past. A lady at work asked if I had gone down to the viaduct at the weekend, if it wasn’t for the billboards, I would have thought she was talking about for a meal.

Given the highly-strung mass hysteria that often overtakes New Zealanders when it comes to sport, I thought it would be interesting to get an outside perspective on the race. I didn’t make too much of an effort, I only went to the sports section of one international news outlet, the Daily Mail, to see what they were reporting. And what did they say? Absolutely nothing. They didn’t cover the race at all. Not a peep.

The eyes of the WORLD are on Nue Zulland.

Yes, of course they are, darling.
