The big mouth of our Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern trump’s the truth over officials investigating why a Security Guard wasn’t tested.
Again just like the young Lass from KFC our Prime Minister target a worker without those investigating the cause knowing the correct facts.
The word lying is not used lightly in Parliament, but the Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern didn’t hold back on Wednesday from hurling the Security Guard under the bus.

  It has not even been established that the person lied and, if he did, what the reasons were. Perhaps he was under pressure form his employer, or was scared of losing his job. It could have been many things.

  Somehow a relief worker at the bottom of the heap is meant to have the wherewithal to conjure up a medical procedure that numerous other workers are similarly avoiding.
  
  So who is the real LIAR in this affair?

  I was discussing this with my wife last night and likened it to workplace H&S laws.
  You can’t just hand a worker a set of safety glasses and a hard-hat and tell them to get on with it, as an employer you’re legally required to monitor that the worker is indeed using the required PPE.
  At a higher level the regulator, WorkSafe, is required to provide clear policy and guidelines for employers to adhere to AND monitor that this is actually happening.
  The government, as regulator for the Covid response, has a responsibility to provide clear policy and guidelines AND perform monitoring to ensure the policy is being adhered to, understand if not why not (i.e. do we need to improve the policy?).
  It’s patently clear the policy and guidelines are severely lacking and assurance (monitoring/auditing) appears to be non-existent and in many cases, made up.

      One would expect that as each Border Guard etc arrives at his/her place of employment for each shift, an entry is made in the Supervisor’s records (electronic or manual), that each employee’s compliance with OH&S requirements is up to date before the employee is actually assigned to work and any noncompliance results in the employee being stood down until such time as the situation is rectified (not compliant, no work). One would expect that there are sufficient employees on standby to cover for such situations as is done for sickness and welfare reasons.

      I saw that. Claiming it is the employer or the employee themselves. They were only too quick to blame Key for everything that went wrong under him but now it is their precious Ardern they are all blaming underlings for her failures. Ardern’s popularity as brought out voters who clearly wouldn’t have a clue about the buck stopping at the top.

        They should also have reviewed the Contractor’s Plan and not sign off until the Plan was fit for purpose. If there was a plan and the Govt signed off on it, it’s the Govt’s problem.

    You are not completely wrong there. A very common reaction in NZ is to blame the individual for any workplace mishap. The onus is legally on the employer to provides systems and equipment that ensure safety and health. There will still be some instances where procedures are ignored or evaded, and the employer’s processes are unable to detect compliance properly.
    It’s a three-way responsibility between the government, employers and workers – all need to pay their parts for the system to function effectively.

    The PM is clearly an ‘ideas’ person, and has no interest in how her instructions are transferred into practical execution. Or no idea –
    I don’t think she realises that instructions have to be passed down the line, and that accountability starts from the top.
    Perhaps she thinks that by merely stating her wishes, they will materialise . . . .

  The main issue is not whether the worker lied or whether the Prime Minister lied although that is of interest and makes the PM look very tawdry.
  
  The more critical issue is how come after many months the MIQ system still has fatal flaws, gaping holes, system weaknesses, poor management and who is responsible. No amount of frowning, head wobbling, shouting and finger pointing avoids the stark reality that she is the leader of a utterly hopeless government incapable of managing even a quaratine facility let alone a country.
  
  She and her Ministers should front and take responsibility. There have been too many failures putting lives and the economy at risk. They have had all the resources of the army at their disposal, a large department, police, a DHB and still the system is broken.
  
  Own your failures, Prime Minister. If you cannot manage simple things, stand down. There is too much at risk.

    In my experience lower level people in the workplace don’t so much lie as much as they are too afraid to tell the truth.

    Surely Ardern’s advisors could come up with a nicer way of explanation for the failures, other than using the word ‘lying’. I don’t believe I can recall that word being used by a PM before. Use of the word is a very petty and non professional.

  Remember what Cindy told us in the beginning about testing availability? She kept on banging the same drum for weeks that there was sufficient capacity, but all the labs said there wasn’t and GPs said their patients were being turned away.
  
  Same here. She wants to believe the system is working, so when it fails it is the people that must be thrown under the bus because the system is perfect.
  
  Systems design 101: A system id designed from components. A system must be designed to cope with failure of individual components. If it does not then it is a poorly designed system.
  
  A system that incorporates people needs to be designed to cater with the imperfections of people. If it does not then it is a poorly designed system.

      No it’s not. Explain and show me a purely capitalist system (i.e. no social welfare or government intervention) in operation past or present. If it’s never been implemented properly then it can’t be criticized as a concept.
      
      The problem is not the system it’s the implementation. Communism, Socialism, Globalization and Neoliberalism (if you can call this a politically ideology) are all fundamentally sound systems of government until you introduce the human into the system. It’s the human that is the problem not the system. Every major economic system or ideology has been bastardised by those in power for their own gains at the expense of the general population.
      
      Behavioral psychology and superstitious behavior theory can explain these issues very succinctly. Or otherwise read animal farm if you think you can “read between the lines”.

    If the minister has been lied to, fine. Fire the person lying to you. But don’t keep blaming the person at the bottom- accountability is found all through the chain and everyone is equally accountable for ensuring the truth is told and systems are being followed.
    
    From what I have seen to date the only person who has faced repurcussions is David Parker, and the shit that is failing left and right at the moment, well I’d rather all we were concerned about was someone going for a bike ride.

    It just seems like bull. Why would an employer just ask. And why was MIQ just taking verbal assurances from their contractors. Professional employee drug testing companies say the process for drug testing is that the tests get sent to the employer.

    *result is discussed with client and sent back to employer

Another weekday and the 757 just took off from Whenuapai on its daily departure heading in the direction of Wellington. Unfortunately miliary flights don’t show in flight radar.

Could it be Air Force 0.5 taking Spindy to Wellington and back each day? I wonder how her carbon emissions diet it going?

Sadly the hipocracy is lost on the media and voters. Spindy virtual signals with her electric car and then uses her own 757 to get about.

  I’m no fan of Ardern but this stretches credibility.
  
  The air force regularly flies its aircraft on training and logistics missions.
  
  Unless you’ve got a photo or better, this seems like rubbish mate.
  
  Aside from anything else, flying airforce from whenuapai to Wellington is less convenient than commercial and obviously significantly more expensive. Both things which politicians are extremely sensitive to, remember the hoopla about National using Air Force assets for government activity?

Interesting. From The Telegraph: Physical inactivity doubles the risk of Coronavirus death

Inactive coronavirus patients are more than twice as likely to die from the disease compared to people who exercise for the recommended 150 minutes a week, a new study suggests.

Researchers from the Kaiser Permanente Fontana Medical Center in California, studied the medical records of nearly 50,000 people who were diagnosed with coronavirus between January and October last year.

They found that being consistently inactive more than doubled the odds of hospitalisation compared with being regularly active.

Patients who were consistently inactive were 73% more likely to be admitted to intensive care than fit patients.

The odds for death were 2.49 times greater for patients who were consistently inactive compared with patients who were consistently active.

The researchers found that inactivity was the biggest risk factor for the disease after age, and having a history of organ transplant.

  I wonder how much of this is directly tied to the inactivity and how much inactivity is a marker for other contributors?
  
  For example, I suspect that obesity and inactivity are closely linked.
  
  Here in NZ there is a high correlation between your car failing WOF and obesity.
  
  Knee-jerk (aka Labour) reaction would be a social policy to make WOF easier to pass and thereby reduce obesity.
  
  Of course reality is not that simple and there is a more complex dynamic at work. Lower socioeconomic people are both more likely to be obese and have older cars.

      To be fair to Batman (not that he deserves it), I think he’s pushing back more on the statement that the wealthy countries are less obese.
      
      Mexicans certainly show that third world (sorry, less developed) can be hugely obese – as are less developed Polynesians. Same for many parts of Africa (eg. obesity in South Africa is over 50%).

  The He Pupua plot provides a great chance for ACT, especially while the State media monolith (State TV, State Radio, and the subsidised print media) stays intent on wasting National until it survives only as a Woke and weak Labour Lite Opposition.
  
  In Stuff today, there’s more subtle sabotage by yet another PR consultant (yep, “PR” and “consultant” – hallelujah).
  
  Stuff describes this columnist as a former National Government press secretary, but he’s also portrayed at the Leftist web site, the Spinoff, as one of its contributors.
  
  “The longer leaks and rumours continue, the more National’s stock plummets,” the Stuff contributor says.
  
  But his column is innuendo, rumour, and allegations of coup plotting, though he subtly exempts Chris Bishop: “Bishop’s colleagues in his own party could at least give him a break and not cause too many more unnecessary distractions of their own.”
  
  These distractions come from the State media conglomerate smearing National with allegations and rumours of unrest, plotting, and coups. On Monday night, it’s State TV’s One News. Today, it’s Stuff’s turn.

  Of all of Labour’s MP’s, Damian O’Connor, who purports to represent the rural voters, should know better that this is another kick-the-farmers-in-the-guts type of absurd Labour policy (eg totally ignores the economic benefits which will cost the wider economy).
  
  If Labour (and O’Connor) had the smarts, their policy should be to improve animal welfare.
  
  For example I think it was one of the mariners here yesterday said that the new livestock ships are much safer than the older converted livestock carrier ships – so why isn’t Labour insisting that NZ’s livestock exports must be carried on much safer vessels?
  
  I guess the answer is obvious – it’s easier for Labour to BAN things (and then be forgotten about), rather than spend time and effort trying to FIX things (which takes time).

They now regret their Oprah interview in the light of Prince Philip’s death.

At the time of the interview Prince Philip was already gravely ill, and very old, and his demise was imminent. So surely they could put one and one together and come up with two?

Perhaps what they really were relying on was anti-royal sentiments which probably were not nearly as strong as they though and have been reversed recently – especially with Prince Philip’s demise.

These people need some grown ups to advise them.

  Sadly, there are some people who just NEVER grow up. I have a close relative in her early 30’s who I still hope will one day grow up – on the other hand, an uncle of my wife’s passed away a few years ago, probably in his 80’s, and he never grew up.
  
  And as for Jacinda … I strongly suspect that when she was trotting around the world stage a couple of years ago, lapping up the adulation from her adoring fans before turning to the serious business of whatever meeting she was supposedly attending, the majority of the various heads of governments and dignitaries that she was supposed to be having serious talks with were just shaking their heads, and quietly thinking to themselves exactly what you said in your last line:

      In order to placate these two “it’s all about me and what I look like” numpties, none of the family mourners are going to wear uniforms.
      In a break with tradition the men will wear suits.
      Feel sorry for the Queen in all this. She has enough to deal with, especially at her advanced age,without having to sort out tantrums thrown by needy adult children and grandchildren.

The Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine – the only one the government expects to use – requires two doses for full protection at least three weeks apart.

        I had my regular flu jab as they have probably worked in me over the years. Usually they have knocked me out for a week but this time appears better, perhaps because my Vit D levels may be higher.

        Maggy, confusion too over the flu jab. Apparently they’ve changed things this year and instead of the same vaccine for everyone – as in the past – they will offer 3 different vaccines for 3 different groups: 65+, under 65, and children.
        According to my GP this is already causing complications, and the delivery date for the under 65 group has already been pushed back. I wonder why? /s

      lol. I retired from my RN job 12 years ago, and was invited to become part of the vaccination team.
      (I think names are passed around by word-of-mouth.)
      My first reaction was “You’re joking – aren’t you?”
      Considering that I am in the high risk age group, albeit in fine health, I was somewhat surprised.
      I declined, apart from being very rusty in technique, I wouldn’t want to be given the vaccine myself.
      
      Speaking of naso-pharyngeal swabs: they are very uncomfortable, and require considerable skill to perform properly without injury to the patient. I remember Drs who disliked doing them, but did so – and preferred using a spatula and headlight to visualise the site – because oral-pharyngeal swabs often missed the focal site of the virus, so were useless.
      So I wouldn’t be surprised if those who didn’t report back for repeat swabbing, had had a traumatic experience the first time around.

  I think you’ll find the MoH is adding the 900,000-ish new doses to the more than 100,000 doses already administered. I agree that doesn’t seem to total 1.16m, but I’m just outlining that I think they’re not starting their count at zero.
  
  Assume a vaccinator can do 4 vaccinations an hour, for 7 hours a day = 28 vaccinations per vaccinator per day. So to deliver 12,000 vaccinations per day needs about 425 vaccinators across the country. That sounds pretty achievable.

    Another quote from the report ,”0. Trump
    rallies have several distinguishing features that lend themselves to this inquiry. First, they involved large numbers of attendees. Though data on attendance is poor, it appears that the number of attendees was generally in the thousands and sometimes in the tens of thousands.”
    
    So they are predicting the number of increased deaths (not necessarily of the attendees) based on attendance at trump rallies, but they have no idea of the attendance it could be thousands or tens of thousands.

Remember how Labour, and Megan Woods in particular, trumpet loud and long about National selling off state houses, and how Labour is building them at record rates.

Guess what; she’s telling porkies:

The Government has sold or demolished nearly 2000 state houses since July 2018, Newshub can reveal.

And while Housing Minister Megan Woods continues to trumpet a bonanza state house build, the number of state houses managed by Kāinga Ora – Housing NZ – has actually fallen.

The Government has been shouting the success of its public house build programme from the rooftops, but what it doesn’t broadcast so loudly is how many it’s sold or bowled.

Newshub can reveal that since July 2018 there have been 3840 new Kāinga Ora state homes built. It has also purchased and leased some existing houses. But over that same period, Kāinga Ora ended a lease, sold or demolished 1900.

“What this is doing is allowing us to get the right home in the right place,” Dr Woods explained.

National’s housing spokesperson Nicola Willis sees it differently.

“The truth is at the moment, they’re demolishing one for every two they build,” Willis told Newshub. “What I’d like to see is them building a heck of a lot faster.”

Public housing numbers are rising overall, but the numbers include those from community housing providers – places like the Sallies or the City Mission that also help to house people.

The number of Kāinga Ora houses – Government state houses – actually fell in the final three months of last year from 64,000 to 63,629 – 379 fewer state houses than in September.

Interestingly, Labour is now doing exactly what they criticised National for throughout the supposed Nine Years of Neglect. National was demolishing old and outdated state houses, and replacing them with homes that were fit for a variety of purposes, e.g. single bedroom dwellings for elderly folk living alone to multi-bedroom homes for families.

What this does show is that solving problems in the housing area is complex, and a one-size-fits-all approach does not work. Kudos to the Government for demolishing houses that have outlived their usefulness, but shame on them for bullshitting about it!

  Round the corner from Bayswater on Lake Rd, about 16 State houses dating from the early 50’s were recently demolished. They are rubbish having not been properly maintained.
  
  The rebuild has started with probably about 35 being built on the same site. I guess another year before the project is finished.

I remember when

In the US at the moment, there is debate about moving forward now that vaccination levels are reaching ‘herd immunity’ levels. If we add the number of those who have had covid to those vaccinated, as many of 40% of the US have some immunity.
The argument is that they need opinions other than those of overcautious virologists.
A balanced panel considering all of the consequences now that vaccination has an impact.

    You know, after Bush won in 2000, the media was all over the Florida votes and votes, all trying to find out what went one, with multiple senior journalists assigned to those stories. In 2020, not even a trainee reporter was allowed to investigate what happened in places like Georgia, Pennsylvania, and Michigan. And that’s after papers like the NYT spent over 10 years writing stories about how vulnerable the absentee and mail in voting mechanisms were and how ripe they were for voter fraud (likely to be perpetrated by Republicans of course in their stories); and the. In a complete 180 turn-around any stories about potential fraud with mail in voting was not just forgotten about, it became seditious to even think about it. Anyone need any proof that Labour and the Greens are soft on crime? In the last month, they have voted down Members’ Bills from National MP’s seeking to:

* make notifications to schools of convicted sex offenders being released into their area compulsory
* increasing the maximum sentence for those who kill a Police dog from two years to five years, and
* tougher sentences to those who assault first responders or Corrections officers in the course of their duties

The police dog one is especially “interesting”, given that Police Minister Poto Williams is quite happy to use Police dogs as a prop for her social media photoshoots:

I am sad to report that our PM’s popularity has not diminished amongst my lovely female mates here in Gizzy.

We are a bookish clan and meet up at regular intervals, including last night.

There was little sympathy for the Lying MIQ worker.
I pointed out that the most powerful person in the land – Dear Jacinda- was accusing a lowly worker with limited understanding of English of being a Liar.

This stunned them for a moment….as they are all pro- refugee/ poor migrant immigration to NZ.

But instead of being appalled at our PM’s unkind action, they doubled down and informed me that the MIQ worker shouldn’t have been employed as he didn’t understand English well.

At that point, I gave up.

      I’m staggered that the regular testing of these staff appears to be left to them to sort out. One might have imagined that there was a government-run system that instructed workers when and where to go, so that there was a specific database of their records.

Will they also reduce the price of a pack of 20 to $1.65?

Cigarettes will still be harmful but they just won’t be as addictive – they won’t give you the same sort of feedback.
If you smoke twice as many in an attempt to satisfy a nicotine craving, will that double your chances of getting cancer – although twice as many, of whatever number you now smoke, will only give you only 10% of your current nicotine intake?
(A 95% cut will leave you with 5% of current consumption)

    This new proposal is no better than any other (as they call it) business as usual approach produced by health/politicians, and I see that they also aim to try and preserve the government revenue benefits ( minimum price vs increasing excise).
    
    For a long time now as a smoker I’ve maintained that any government really wanting a smokefree plan need take one simple action – make nicotine availability a prescription only drug for chronic addicts through regulated outlets (pharmacies).
    No politician is going to go there while the revenue benefits still exist.

I remember when

Who is right WorkSafe or the coroner.
Forestry worker died on July 9, 2018, after tree fell and struck him.
The case hinged on the treatment of two ‘pivot trees’ standing in a temporary skid pad.
The site was very wet and sodden so the first skid pad became unusable.
So a second and then a temporary third were set up.
The contractor decided to leave two trees, described as ‘pivot trees’ standing in the temporary skid.
When dark clouds were noticed the contractor decided to called it a day at 1.30pm.
At 2.10pm the worker and three others were in or near a vehicle, when one of the pivot trees fell killing the worker.
Weather information from Ohakea, about 6kms away, measured wind speed as high as 60 kmh before the tree fall.
A Forestry expert told WorkSafe there was no need for ‘pivot trees’ due to the way the site operated.
But one of the contractor’s employee, with 17 years forestry experience, said the trees were left for safety reasons.
WorkSafe preferred forestry expert’s opinion, stating adequate risk assessment would have meant ‘pivot trees’ being removed , preventing the death.
Cutting the tree, leaving a high stump (forestry experts suggestion) – was considered unsafe because it was on a slope, meaning using a chainsaw over shoulder height.
The forest owner, John Turkington, in a statement, advised the coroner they disagreed with the expert and supported the contractor’s choice.
Both companies stated they were more vigilant in management of trees near landings and access roads.
The coroner accepted the contractors were doing regular risk checks on the trees and would have felled them if there were issues.
‘I do not consider they would knowingly leave hazardous trees on site.’
Did WorkSafe make their decision using the benefit of hindsight.

        I could also point out that, in a way, he has escaped his punishment. He should have been spending every day of the next 19 years reflecting on what he had done, and how much we as a society despise and condemn such actions. Accounting, Economics and Business Studies teachers are currently trying to fight back against Ministry moves to axe these subjects at Year 11 level and replace them with a subject called ‘Commerce’ which is closer to a junior social studies course than anything of either academic merit or a course containing actual business skills. In the proposed ‘Commerce’ course, core foundation economic ideas are ignored, entrepreneurship and innovation does not have to be taught and there is a disregard of systems of financial management of businesses (just to name a few issues). NZ Business teachers want robust and meaningful courses in Accounting, Economics and Business Studies available to senior students at our High Schools. Programmes for year 12 have not yet been announced by the Ministry and there is a fear that all Business education will be undermined and transformed into the social studies type course that has been presented for Year 11.   If it achieved statehood the two seats I the senate would be guaranteed Democrats. Obviously it’s therefore not in the GOP interests to let it happen.

See the Horizon Regional Council is sending survey forms to all Maori in their council area who are on the Maori electoral roll seeking their feedback on having two Maori seats for their council. However if you are a non Maori you will not be receiving survey forms rather it will be up to you to make a submission online or in writing to the Horizon council. Given there has been little publicity to this many non Maori electors will be unaware of the opportunity to make a contribution to this proposal.

Biden’s first blunder has been to give free rein to the woke revolutionaries. Their ideology is a fusion of post-modernism, Marxism, Freudianism, critical race theory, gender studies, intersectionality and much else besides, and the brew is toxic, explosive and potentially fatal to Western democracy and capitalism. It detests rationality, the rule of law and even the presumption of innocence. It is obsessed with race and gender, assumes extreme amounts of never-ending exploitation, posits that progress is impossible and rejects the liberal, meritocratic, colour-blind approach that has done so much to improve society and combat racism since the Fifties.

Tucker Carlson asks the hard questions around the vaccines, specifically, are they safe and effective? And if only 6 people have died as a result of taking the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, why are the FDA and CDC having it withdrawn? Are there more cases of reaction then they are saying? And if you have been vaccinated, why the need to still wear masks and socially distance? There seem to be no answers. I hadn’t watched Carlson for a while (a few years ago I used to watch his show every day) but these questions actually make a lot of sense to ask.

For months, [Dr Fauci] and the rest of the public health establishment have been badgering Americans to take a vaccine they claim is absolutely, perfectly safe. That’s what they said through Monday.

Now, Fauci has declared that because the Johnson & Johnson vaccine has injured six people — which, if true, would make that vaccine much safer not just than birth control pills, but safer than many other vaccines we’ve distributed in the past — because this vaccine has hurt six people out of seven million, we need to stop using it immediately. Does that make sense to you? No, it really doesn’t. It seems possible there’s a lot more going on here.
