Finance Minister Grant Robertson on why he needs more Powers to restrict Bank lending .
Why is it that Treasury and Grant Robertson need to change our banking system when really it was his and Jacinda Ardern our Prime Minister’s lack luster approach to the housing situation that put us in this situation from the moment they were installed as the Government. They lied and blamed National for our housing crisis only to make three times worse than the problem they inherited and now because of their socialist policies want to dictate to the banks and the RBNZ.

    Cinders has already committed a capital offence denying Parliament it’s sole right to authorise expenditure. No excuses. They’re done for.
    
    Labour may have a majority, they don’t have a government of any competence. They have little authority except conferred by legislation. I see they are now using MBIE to review a whole set of programs; that is properly the prerogative of Treasury not the other sycophants. The member for the Waikato Tribe is stirring up trouble too likely to lead to race wars.
    
    Labour have failed in their duty of care to the extent they have to be called frauds through their reckless abuse of power without authority. They have no mandate to be revolutionaries.
    
    Do we need to send to France for the necessary gear to deal with them if they won’t honourably discharge themselves?

  The Australian trading banks have serviced NZ business since the country was formed in 1840. Robertson and the loon who runs the Reserve Bank seem determined to drive them out of the country.

Dividend Withholding Tax Issue This will be of interest to shareholders, accountants, tax agents and IRD staff. Recent tax processing changes mean companies paying dividends to shareholders now need to send payment details for each shareholder to IRD and this information is available to taxpayer shareholders via MyIR on IRD’s web site to help taxpayers do tax returns. It is being phased in, so it is not yet mandatory and not all companies are on board with this yet. Normally the two main share registrars Computershare and Link Market Services would arrange this detail. However some of the figures posted are nonsense, in particular the amounts of dividend withholding tax shown are about FOUR TIMES what they should be. The problem is not confined to just one registrar, it seems to be a common problem with both registrars and IRD (not sure who would have caused the error). If these figures are used by taxpayers or tax agents when doing tax returns, then tax refunds or tax to pay will be wrong in the taxpayer’s favour. It will give IRD a nice little headache when they become aware of the problem as it is a fiscal train wreck in the making..
Therefore ignore figures relating to dividends, imputations and dividend withholding tax on the IRD web site. Use the figures off the dividend notices posted or emailed to you instead. Alternatively Computershare and Link will each send you a list of dividends etc at a fairly fancy cost to help you do your tax returns.
Parliament is not sitting this week or I would have tipped off a MP about this issue for possible Question Time use.

  Thanks for the information peterwn. I record all our dividends as they come in, using a spreadsheet, so at the end of each tax year it’s very quick to record all the info. But if I had noticed this I would have been scratching my head trying to work out where the mistake was.

    Actually the cost to get the summary is (or was) around $45 and that fee is itself tax deductible. So hardly “fairly fancy”, or so it seems to me.

  IRD has been struggling with its massive system upgrades. They now include furious penalty action-no arguing with a computer. The commissioner’s discretion seem to be relegated to an after thought.
  
  The WRT tax reporting has been in use for 2 years or more. I had all that formal fiddle faddle with a client with the risk of penalties for untimeliness. IRD messed up in their payment allocation. Their new internal tax accounting codes were not synced with the banks.

  I have completed the dividend info on two IR3s for family so far. One matches my own figures. The other one almost does but not quite because the IRD info has missed one divvy, paid in March. Now manually added.

    It was not that IRD missed the dividend, the company or its share registrar did not provide the info to IRD. It is not yet mandatory for companies to provide the information to IRD as this requirement is still being phased in. Companies such as CEN, IFT, MCY etc have provided this information while PFI, KPG and PCT have not. It is interesting that the Dividend Withholding Tax seemed to have been correct in your case, it was not in both cases I have dealt with.

    Last night TV 3 “news” did a long lead story on a gang trying to rob a petrol station. I suspect the only reason it was covered as a long lead was they had lots of CCTV footage ,so it made “good copy”
    
    The face of one of the would be robbers was pixillated .
    
    The story didn’t say there’d been any arrests ,so why protect or even attempt to protect the identity of someone who the police will want to be having a chat to ?

      Lt – a really interesting thing. Ctrl F ( Reti as key) does throw up a hit in the find dialogue box but no visual highlight ( in other words it’s hidden text). Use of their search engine throws up the visual link immediately ( under Audio Politics) but there is no visual link on the Politics page for Audio.
      What this suggests to me is that this obscure tagging technique is a nice work around for RNZ defending complaints of “lack of balance” that might be referred to the Bull Sh*t Authority.

        You’re doing better than me, my septuagenarian friend. I just tried again on the rnz website (https://www.rnz.co.nz/) and the Radio tab (https://www.rnz.co.nz/radio), using Ctrl + F with key Reti (or reti) gets no match. Either way, it’s hard to find unless you know it’s there somewhere and go looking.

    RNZ are so sensitive about covering for the government on this issue that they interviewed Reti, broadcast the interview and linked the interview on its website.

Last night TVNZ ran a piece on the 6pm News about how the Met Service now has capacity to tell us (the sheeple) what the impact of a volcanic eruption will be.

Well, excuse me, how about getting better accuracy into your weather forecasts.

In short,the Met Service were boasting how they can help forecast the next eruption. No they can’t. All they can predict which way and how far an Ash cloud will drift/spread. This given:

1. The volume of material erupted;
2. The speed/intensity/force of the eruption;
3. The direction of the wind; and
4. The wind speed.

So, the Met Service can tell us where erupted material is likely to blow in an eruption. Which is important given the disruption volcanic eruptions can cause. An example being the Icelandic eruption in April/May 2010 that disrupted air travel in Western Europe.

But lesson for NZ Media,try and get the story correct!

  We were doing this sort of thing in the sixties at HAFMED (HQ ALLIED FORCES MEDITERRANEAN) in Malta G.C. when I was a Wren meteorological in the Royal Navy.
  
  Upper air analysis every six hours in case of a nuclear attack in those days. Sent to all Navies in order to restation ships in case an “event” occurred, we covered from Russia to America, North Africa to Greenland. We also had a daily SUBSUNK task, fortunately neither ever occurred in my time. Satellites unheard of then, all done by radio sonde balloons from the area we covered.
  
  Now all done by satellites and computers which arrived in the eighties when I was working at Kelburn and the threat of nuclear war was long past. Used for the airlines , the upper air forecasts were actually bought from Uxbridge in UK altho’ we still had an upper air desk locally.

The ANZAC’s/ French/ Brits in Gallipoli 1915 won / avoided a stalemate in WW2 for the Allies.

Gallipoli the good fight.

Without capitalist lend-lease the commie Soviet Union would have collapsed during WW2. One of the key considerations for Gallipoli campaign was a lend lease type in WW1 for the Russian Empire. Didnt really happen in WW1. Later the Russian Empire collapsed. A coup against the Russian parliament by the commies finished it off.

But the Gallipoli campaign help keep then Turkey out of WW2 ensuring lend lease could go through to Soviet Union in part via Iran.

I went to a very interesting meeting yesterday where Judith Collins spoke to us and I came away feeling much better about National. Many of the negative things Labour are doing will be reversed.     The PM is on record somewhere ( can’t remember the exact ref) as saying that one of the aims of their legislative programme is to make it really difficult for a future government to turn new legislation around.     WFF for families is a complex set of policies to attempt to get equity among the lower paid workers, those out of work and those who need support. It aims to provide a minimum level of income for all and replaced the former child support tax rebates. Those who are actually in work get a further allowance to recognise and reward that.       Working For Families (WFF) is what is causing all the social problems in NZ. The start of the rot was making being a solo parent a career choice. Hand outs should be emergency only and getting people into work should be compulsory, not a choice. WFF is easily cheated as well. Taking cashies to keep yourself just under the threshold used to be the normal way. Perhaps now with the increase in tradies rates it is not so common.

        The rot had set in long before the introduction of WFF.
        Paying people to have babies was the start, and the benefit ‘creep’ has led us to where we are now – supporting whole families for life, who cannot raise their kids to be useful citizens or even be useful themselves.
        IMO parents should be responsible for the support of their pregnant daughters, and for seeing the fathers of their children off with a shotgun.
        Families who are chronically homeless should be sent back to their relatives.
        I imagine that it would take about 5 years for parents to start rebelling. The government could tell them that they are reaping the rewards of their carelessness, and resolutely look the other way.
        The rest of us would be looking for guns to protect our way of life.

      Labour is run by intellectuals. Intellectuals believe in “transformational change” rather than continuous improvement. This is driven by their egotistical need to leave a personal mark on history. The problem is that when a complex system is running reasonably well, as NZ was before 2017, transformational change just fucks things up.         Good point, Bob. By “intellectual” I really mean an over-educated under-achiever. The sort that hides out in the Humanities departments of universities.
        I had in mind the quote by George Orwell “some ideas are so stupid only intellectuals believe them”.
        During my consulting career I came across numerous senior managers brought into organisations as “transformational change managers”. Often egotistical to a fault all they achieved was a lot of pain and poor performance. I came to believe that in many cases the answers to the performance issues already resided with the people doing the work and that tapping their insights led to more sustained continuous improvement.

      National don’t change society every time because they have dedicated foreign ideologies to follow. They look, discern and think before they act. They don’t create scandal at the UN and dissent among our Maori and Maori with Pakeha.
      
      Labour act well outside their realms of competence to the extent of what would be considered negligent fraud. They have abandoned the duty of care which is the first duty of Government, not that of trying to remodel NZ to their red-haired image.

My partners mum was telling us she listened to ZB’s Bruce Russell on late night talkback when the subject came up about the appointment of a new GG, once Dame Patsy’s reign ends later this year.

Bruce asked for listeners to call or txt in with who they thought would be a good choice for the job. She reckons ‘hands down’ it went to Winston Peters…..with well over 80% of those calling in giving Winnie the nod!

Apparently other names that got a mention, were Tama Iti, Wendy Petrie, Peter Williams, Heather Simpson, Paula Bennett, Mikey of Dunedin, Len Brown, and Brian McDonald.

  Catherine Tizard, appointed by Jim Bolger was former mayor of Auckland.
  Apart from that they’ve been judges, bishops and army types of late.

I know its been discussed before and the reasons given like who would finance it or NZ’s too small etc, but its not impossible in my view.

A conservative news medium giving Kiwis a balanced reporting of the news and allowing them to make their own minds up on what to believe sounds more closer to freedom of speech than what we are ditched out at the moment.

Example: Did you know their are protest marches in their thousands happening in the UK over their lock downs at the moment?

  By all appearances, a good chunk has been sucked up by the action point of “revitalising te reo Maori”.
  
  Think of how much it must cost to train all the TVNZ newsreaders to use the same dozen or so words each night to introduce the news in Maori, how to correctly pronounce “Tamaki Makaurau”, and ongoing training as they introduce new words (“paremata” for parliament seems to be Simon Dallow’s new word that he has been instructed to use this month).

    We can’t recognise Maori adopting post 1835 loan words. They signed up for the Treaty and their lingo is not sufficient for the future. So far we have graciously lent them hu and koti but more and we would simply have pidgised, bastardised English.

    I’m totally fed up with the Maori language being interspersed with English. I thought I would eventually get used to it but I’m now more irritated than ever and am seriously considering not watching the News or Current Affairs programmes at all. As for calling our country Aotearoa, I just fume more and more every time I hear it. There are at least 2 Maori channels so surely they can use their language to their hearts content there, but leave the main channels solely in English. Our kids are going to grow up speaking Pidgin English. Grrrr!!

  “Oxygen concentration” would be using a PSA concentrator. Basically a device that makes enough oxygen out of the air ti cope with one person. There are el cheapo ones that produce 1-6 L/minute by dilution with air. 1 l/min is 90 % O2 and 6 l/min O2 is about 30%. I understand normal breathing is about 5 l/min. I could be wrong of course …
  
  A 5 l/min O2 concentrator (that’s 5 l/min of 90% ) from China is about $1300 – there are lots of them on aliexpress.
  
  I think hospitals run off stuff that comes out of bottles and is plumbed around the place.
  
  Many (over 50) years ago our Engineering class visited NZIG in Christchurch where they did the – make liquid air – separate to liquid O2 and liquid N2 thing. I have no idea if the plant is still there.
  
  The party trick was to drop a lighted cigarette butt into a beaker of liquid O2 – it bubbled madly for a few seconds and everything burned up … Last word in ashtrays 🙂

  Oxygen concentrator availability and therefore numbers have been hit by the same supply chain / shipping problems with other medical and non-medical devices and hardware.
  
  Oxygen made as an industrial gas is identical to that used in, say, oxyacetylene mixes for metalwork, and the capacity is relatively easily scaled up at point of manufacture; what is not so easily scaled up is having additional cylinders and regulators – and basics such as painting the cylinders so their content is 100% reliably identified. And no, as far as I can find out, the MOH / Govt have taken no steps to check how they could boost gas production, empty cylinder numbers and domestic 2-way shipping (full cylinders out and empty cylinders back) if we suddenly had to.

To the $55 million taxpayers are shelling out to subsidise the print media, add the salary of the journalist appointed to run the scheme.

State organisation New Zealand on Air has appointed Raewyn Rasch as head of journalism to “lead” delivery of the subsidies.

A former general manager Maori and Pacific programmes at TVNZ, more recently Rasch has been on the staff at Massey University. The university web site describes Rasch as communications and marketing manager of the office of the deputy vice-chancellor Maori, with the role involving “increasing the visibility and engagement of Maori at Massey University both internally and externally”.

The NZ on Air appointment announcement describes her as “Ngai Tahu”.

In the announcement, Rasch says:

”“I look forward to working alongside industry on this ground-breaking opportunity to support and strengthen journalism in New Zealand enabling transformational and sustainable change as our media evolves to meet the needs of all communities in Aotearoa.”

Italics added.

The role description indicates the $55 million from taxpayers goes beyond the State keeping the struggling print media afloat. It is about re-moulding the media, and by implication, the country.

Rasch founded the Scarves in Solidarity movement which urged New Zealand women to wear head scarves in sympathy with Muslim women after the mosque massacres.

Watched the second episode of ‘VEGAS’ last night (8:30 TV2)

It was the usual round of gratuitous violence perpetrated between Maori & White Power gangs. Scenes of bullwhipping, fighting, headbutting, armed robbery, a pensioner being bashed over the head with a rifle, chainsaw and knife attacks, filthy language, bad hair, fashion crime, car ramming, along with high speed chases thru the town….all this, but NEVER a cop in sight!

TBH, we thought it was just another shitty acted local drama. It wasn’t till the credits rolled at the end where it said….”Filmed on location in Rotorua and made with the help of funding by NZ on Air”, that we actually realised it was in fact a Reality Show 🙁

If the health system in India has collapsed ,how can they do tests on over 300 000 people a day .
And indeed post mortems on the thousands who’ve died to confirm the true cause of death.

While I have no doubt the situation there is appalling , like with the Wuflu figures from the UK and many other countries , I have my doubts about the accuracy of the published figures.

I think this happened in OZ – maybe not. Both Counties are fucked with this shit going on:
The Herald reports that a 93 year old war veteran in a wheelchair was not allowed to take part in the ANZAC parade because he would “slow the parade down” and because of “health and safety”
By God this makes my blood boil! The parade – indeed the whole day – is all about honouring veterans…I don’t give a fuck if the parade had to slow march, walk, or even pause now and again so wheelchair bound veterans could take part. They deserve every honour and every possible consideration. Those still alive are the very last of them.
As for health and fucking safety, no-one was concerned about that when they were sent into battle 75 years ago. The organizers should be shot.

Just received a New Zealand Government pamphlet in the letterbox entitled “Our COVID-19 plan”.

It goes on to say “How we know it’s safe” and reads “Medsafe only grants consent for a vaccine to be used in New Zealand once they are satisfied it’s safe and effective”.

Note they do not actually state that Medsafe has actually granted consent.

The next sentence reads “All COVID-19 vaccines will go through the same safety steps, and must meet the same robust standards”. The operative weasel words are “will go through”, not “did go through”.

At least the words New Zealand were used instead of Atearoa.

Had my flu shot today and asked the person administering the shot if it was true that flu had disappeared in New Zealand. The answer was “yes, only ten cases of the flu reported last year”.

So other than the negative financial, emotional and mental effects, Covid-19 actually saved about 500 people from dying from the flu.

I wonder how the death statistics from suicide and problems resulting from delayed medical attention stack up.

Anyone have the facts and care to share?
